Alec Pierce

NegativeBust80:58

Matt Kelley groups Alec Pierce among players to avoid in drafts, citing them as examples of putting yourself in a bad position by drafting receivers dependent on struggling quarterbacks or offenses before the season even starts.

Insight page
NegativeInjury83:53

Matt Kelley was very concerned about Alec Pierce this offseason, ranking him probably two rounds below consensus in wide receiver rankings; he cautions against drafting players injured in the offseason as it more often than not ends in failure.

Insight page

Alvin Kamara

PositiveUsage49:19

Kamara has reclaimed significant workload in the Saints backfield after Etienne's disappointing week one. While Kelley notes Kamara will primarily see third-and-long situations (not fantasy-point-rich environments), his emergence as a co-lead back represents a meaningful shift in Saints backfield distribution and reduces Etienne's projected volume.

Insight page
NegativeRole76:42

Matt Kelley characterizes Alvin Kamara as a good, reliable third-down back at this point in his career, not a major threat; notes he's likely to miss additional games due to lower body injuries stacking up, with age compounding injury recovery issues.

Insight page

Braelon Allen

PositiveProjection80:20

Matt Kelley identifies Braylon Allen as the number one most coveted running back in next year's free agency, believing Isaiah Davis is good enough that the team won't re-sign Allen. Kelley has seen enough of Allen's bell cow profile and skill set this year to project he could be a monster next year if given an opportunity, and he'll still be young.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

NegativeValue77:30

Matt Kelley identifies Bucky Irving as a buy-high in dynasty, noting his usage has exceeded expectations; Kelley drafted more Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker than Kenneth Gainwell in the offseason because Gainwell only gained respect in his first year of recognition at age 30, and Kelley prefers to avoid players at peak hype. Kelley believes Irving has "plenty of room to run" and is buying high on him.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout78:18

Matt Kelley is buying high on Bucky Irving, believing he has plenty of room to run and that the market is still a couple weeks away from fully understanding he's back as a bell cow back. Kelley views him as a potential buy low in all leagues despite the recent breakout.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

NegativeInjury7:12

Suffered a hamstring injury that initially appeared catastrophic (Kelley thought it was an Achilles) but could be a severe hamstring strain similar to Dak Prescott's injury a couple years ago, potentially causing him to miss 8-9 games; the injury mechanism and his fist-pumping on the cart created confusion about severity.

Insight page
PositiveProjection48:32

Matt Kelley believes Caleb Williams makes the Bears better as a quarterback, though acknowledges the team's offensive scheme may not be optimally configured around his talents; Kelley suggests Williams is a better prospect than backup-caliber quarterbacks like Mack Jones who will eventually get other opportunities.

Insight page
PositiveRole48:54

Matt Kelley asserts that Caleb Williams makes the Bears offense better, contrasting with the Ewing theory discussion about star players potentially slowing down offenses; Kelley's conviction is that Williams' talent elevates the Bears rather than constraining them.

Insight page

Chase Brown

NegativeProjection59:03

Matt Kelley identifies Chase Brown as a player negatively impacted by the Bengals' unexpectedly strong defense, which has become a problem for the team's offensive fantasy output. The improved Bengals defense reduces shootout potential and limits Chase Brown's scoring ceiling, as the team will not need to rely on high-volume passing and rushing to come back in games.

Insight page

Chuba Hubbard

PositiveValue55:06

Matt Kelley notes that Chuba Hubbard fell into the laps of Hero RB or Zero RB drafters and became a reliable starter; Kelley himself drafted Hubbard multiple times across different leagues when forced to start someone week one, and he expresses satisfaction with the results despite initial skepticism from others like Coach.

Insight page
PositiveValue57:09

Matt Kelley admits to repeatedly drafting Chuba Hubbard in double-digit rounds across multiple leagues, including dynasty, despite not having a sophisticated bullish case for him. He continued to acquire Hubbard even after Jonathan Brooks was drafted, suggesting sustained availability and value at his ADP. Kelley notes the Carolina offense comparison to the Lions was not a reason for his Hubbard acquisitions, indicating the value was driven by opportunity rather than scheme fit.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

NegativeBust3:31

Colston Loveland is cited as a season disappointment; the intro questions "Colston Loveland has fewer points than who? Sam Rausch? What is this madness?" indicating he underperformed relative to preseason expectations.

Insight page
NegativeRole7:42

Loveland is a two-way tight end talent with elite blocking ability who is on the field for every snap and running every route, but is not getting targeted; Matt Kelley believes this is a quarterback issue (new QB like Case Keenum or Tyson Badgent could solve the problem) rather than a talent concern, distinguishing Loveland from a Marvin Harrison Jr. situation where tape shows lack of effort.

Insight page
NegativeBust11:37

Matt Kelley identifies Colson Loveland as a highly speculative, projection-based player who has face-planted hardest in 2025; instances where he was drafted ahead of proven players like Trey McBride despite barely having any NFL touches, exemplifying the risk of college profile projection over NFL production.

Insight page

David Njoku

NegativeInjury36:57

Njoku is injured; while Matt Kelley expresses sympathy for the player personally, he notes that Njoku's injury may actually be beneficial for the Chargers offense fantasy-wise, as it opens the door for Trey Harris to take on a more featured role.

Insight page
NegativeRole40:03

Njoku was signed to a significant contract as part of an offensive-building strategy that Matt Kelley viewed as fundamentally flawed. The Chargers invested heavily in Njoku and Kohler despite building an offense optimized for Jalen Hurts' lateral-based system rather than Justin Herbert's vertical passing needs, representing a misalignment of personnel and scheme.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

PositiveProjection81:56

Matt Kelley notes that Deshaun Watson has exceeded expectations, though the bar was very low coming into the season.

Insight page

Ja'Marr Chase

NegativeProjection59:03

Matt Kelley identifies Jamar Chase as a player negatively impacted by the Bengals' unexpectedly strong defense, which has become a problem for the team's offensive fantasy output. The improved Bengals defense reduces shootout potential and limits Chase's scoring ceiling. Kelley expects the disparity between Chase and other elite receivers to widen as the Bengals' defense strangles games in the third quarter, preventing the high-volume passing scenarios that maximize Chase's upside.

Insight page
PositiveProjection60:34

Chase is expected to see his disparity in production widen further; Matt Kelley notes that with Smith and Jigba taking over the wide receiver one spot in Dynasty on Player Profiler last week, the gap between Chase and other elite receivers is beginning to pull away significantly.

Insight page

Jalen Coker

PositiveBreakout4:02

Undrafted from Holy Cross, Coker didn't receive expected respect but has emerged to perform on par with Tett McMillan, a top-10 pick; represents the type of small-school undrafted player who exceeded expectations this season.

Insight page
PositiveSleeper6:42

Matt Kelley identifies Jalen Coker as an undrafted player from Holy Cross who "didn't get the respect" despite being in a great offense; Kelley groups him with players who exceed expectations due to small-school pedigree and offensive context.

Insight page
PositiveValue10:14

Jalen Coker was available as a trade target in Dynasty and represents better value than holding Marvin Harrison Jr.; Matt Kelley regrets not accepting a straight-up Coker-for-Harrison trade when it was offered, as Coker has maintained value while Harrison has declined rapidly.

Insight page
PositiveRole36:15

Coker is identified as a guy you want on your football team, similar to Trey Harris. While the transcript excerpt cuts off, Coker is mentioned in the context of the Chargers' receiver evaluation and the shift to 11 personnel, suggesting he may benefit from the offensive scheme change.

Insight page
NegativeRole36:15

Coker is described as a guy you want on your football team, mentioned alongside Trey Harris in the context of the Chargers offense.

Insight page
PositiveSleeper55:02

Matt Kelley indicates he and his team were bullish on Jalen Coker as a Carolina breakout candidate, positioning him as a preferred target in the Carolina offense stack strategy.

Insight page
NegativeValue58:18

Matt Kelley notes that to acquire Jalen Coker in draft negotiations, you need to 'shoot higher'—implying his ADP or asking price is lower than his perceived value, requiring an above-market offer to secure him.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

PositiveProjection31:52

Matt Kelley observed Jalen Hurts at the 2020 Senior Bowl and noted significant struggles in 1v1 drills and point-and-shoot target throws, ranking Hurts as the worst performer in those specific drill categories compared to peers like Jordan Love and Justin Herbert.

Insight page
NegativeRole39:15

Hurts struggled in 1v1 drills and point-and-shoot target throws at the Senior Bowl, performing worse than undrafted players in these situations. However, his skill set is optimized for laterally-designed offenses with crossing routes and late-progression options, which suits 12 personnel packages. The Eagles' offensive scheme is built around his strengths in evasion and breaking down plays on the run rather than vertical passing.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

NegativeInjury5:53

Still dealing with a high ankle sprain; Matt Kelley was cautious about drafting him for this reason among other factors, and the injury status played out as expected, validating the pre-draft skepticism.

Insight page
NegativeBust80:58

Matt Kelley lists Jeremiah Love among draft regrets and players to avoid, grouping him with other risky early-season picks that put you behind before the season even starts.

Insight page

Jerry Jeudy

PositiveRole82:20

Matt Kelley observes that Jerry Judy's target share has collapsed from an expected 15% to a projected 11%, describing him as completely done with all attention shifting to Denzel Washington; the mothballing of Judy is already evident.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeProjection59:03

Matt Kelley notes that Joe Burrow is 'pretty stable in Dynasty for this reason' (the Bengals' improved defense), but in seasonal leagues, 'he's just not going to be what we thought because you need the defense, especially the secondary, to allow teams to come back in the second half.' The Bengals' unexpectedly strong defense strangles games in the third quarter, preventing the high-volume passing scenarios that maximize Burrow's upside in seasonal formats.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeInjury12:02

Jonathan Brooks is highlighted as another speculative, projection-based player who has face-planted in 2025, now hitting IR; Matt Kelley notes he personally owned Brooks and was excited about the upside but acknowledges the disappointing outcome in hindsight.

Insight page
NegativeDepth Chart55:56

Matt Kelley's coach suggested waiting on Jonathan Brooks instead of drafting Chuba Hubbard in a dynasty league, indicating Brooks was viewed as a potential handcuff or future starter in the Carolina backfield.

Insight page

Jordan Love

PositiveProjection31:52

Matt Kelley observed Jordan Love at the 2020 Senior Bowl and noted his exceptional arm talent; Kelley described Love's ball as having distinctive initial power for the first ~10 yards of flight, comparing the sensation to watching a long-drive golfer whose ball leaves the tee with visibly different velocity and trajectory.

Insight page

Jordyn Tyson

NegativeRole75:33

Matt Kelley expresses uncertainty about Jordan Tyson's fantasy value upon his return to the Saints, stating he doesn't know what Tyson is and prefers to hold Devon Vele while letting Tyson prove his worth.

Insight page

Josh Allen

PositiveProjection60:58

Josh Allen started the year way out in front at quarterback and has maintained and actually pulled away with his lead; Kelley notes he could be in a similar position to where he started the season, with a commanding advantage over other quarterbacks.

Insight page

Josh Downs

PositiveSleeper81:55

Matt Kelley recommends targeting Josh Downs before he scores a touchdown, framing him as an easy value play and a basic principle-driven move to get ahead of his breakout.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout84:49

Matt Kelley calls Josh Downs an obvious play with conviction, stating "It's Josh Downs season" and emphasizing his skill set matches perfectly with the Daniel Jones offense; the coaches have scripted plays for him at the beginning of week one and he delivered a productive non-touchdown performance in week two, setting up his emergence.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

NegativeProjection25:28

Matt Kelley notes that Justin Herbert was projected well and valued highly in Dynasty despite current underperformance; Kelley had projected him at 23 fantasy points per game based on his age-23 season when he could run and had elite arm talent and accuracy, but the Chargers offense is now short-circuiting and failing to utilize his skill set.

Insight page
PositiveProjection31:52

Matt Kelley observed Justin Herbert at the 2020 Senior Bowl alongside Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts; Kelley characterized Herbert as operating at a higher level than Love, describing Herbert's arm talent as 'love plus'—a quarterback with elite ball velocity and power on throws, similar to a long-drive golfer whose ball leaves the tee differently.

Insight page
PositiveRole36:26

Herbert's offense is best when his first read is a deep shot and his progression goes deep to shallow; the Chargers have been asking him to scan laterally across the field, which he is not good at. The addition of Trey Harris as a featured deep threat will allow Herbert to operate in his optimal system, lifting the entire offense.

Insight page
PositiveRole40:03

Herbert is the opposite of Hurts—he thrives in vertical passing schemes with field-stretching receivers and underneath targets, which is ideal for 11 personnel. The Chargers' injury-forced shift away from 12 personnel may actually benefit Herbert by allowing the offense to run 11 personnel almost exclusively, which is his optimal system. This represents a potential offensive improvement for Herbert's fantasy outlook.

Insight page

Kendre Miller

NegativeDepth Chart49:34

Miller received 50% of the Saints backfield workload in week one but was inactive by week two, illustrating the volatility and lack of staying power in the Saints running back rotation. Kelley's comment 'thanks for handling half the workload. Now you're inactive for week two' underscores Miller's brief fantasy relevance.

Insight page
NegativeRole76:22

Matt Kelley dismisses Kendra Miller as a major needle-moving running back, implying limited fantasy upside relative to market expectations or hype.

Insight page

Kenneth Gainwell

PositiveValue77:30

Matt Kelley avoids Kenneth Gainwell in dynasty despite newfound respect, reasoning that the first year people respect a 30-year-old running back is the year to reduce exposure; Kelley drafted more Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker instead, following his principle that peak hype is the wrong time to buy.

Insight page

Kenneth Walker III

NegativeRole63:53

Kenneth Walker's absence from the Seahawks offense has contributed to the team not having as much of a run-first identity, which has opened up more opportunities for Jackson Smith-Njigba in the passing game.

Insight page

Ladd McConkey

PositiveProjection82:25

Matt Kelley makes a bold 2026 prediction that Ladd McConkey will be a top-five wide receiver and top-five dynasty asset if the Chargers commit to running their offense through him. Kelley argues McConkey is necessary to get the Chargers out of their current struggles and that the team will realize they need him on every snap and play.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

NegativeRole39:07

Jackson, like Jalen Hurts, struggled in point-and-shoot target throws at the Pro Bowl, which is not reflective of his actual skill set. Both players excel in laterally-designed offenses where they can evade pressure and make plays on the run, rather than in vertical passing schemes.

Insight page

Malik Nabers

NegativeInjury85:13

Matt Kelley warns against drafting Malik Nabers despite knowing he will eventually have productive weeks, cautioning that drafting players injured in the offseason more often than not ends in failure and puts you in a bad position before the season even starts.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeBust4:36

Has been so disappointing that Matt Kelley says he couldn't have imagined how bad the performance would be; even R.C. Fisher, the original Marvin Harrison Jr. skeptic, would not have predicted one catch in two games while healthy; represents a historic underperformance.

Insight page
NegativeBust9:19

Matt Kelley views Marvin Harrison Jr. as droppable in redraft and a sell-low in Dynasty after tape shows him going through the motions with lack of effort; Kelley regrets holding Harrison in Dynasty rosters and trying to get full value in trades, as the player's value has dropped so fast it cannot be recovered—he should have accepted earlier trade offers like a 2nd-round pick or Jalen Coker straight up.

Insight page
NegativeBust12:26

Marvin Harrison Jr. has experienced a historic fall in 2025 despite elite pedigree (Ohio State, high draft capital); Matt Kelley notes the Cardinals' Michael Wilson contract extension signals they are no longer believers in Harrison Jr., and he has become a common thread in dynasty orphan pickups, difficult to move in most leagues.

Insight page
NegativeBust53:40

Matt Kelley expresses strong skepticism about drafting multiple shares of Marvin Harrison Jr., calling it foolish; the context suggests Harrison Jr. underperformed relative to draft expectations.

Insight page

Matthew Stafford

NegativeValue55:56

Matt Kelley drafted Matthew Stafford in a league where he went tight end premium and super flex, using him as a depth quarterback to maintain flexibility while stacking elite skill position talent.

Insight page

Michael Penix Jr.

PositiveRole62:54

Michael Penix is an interesting super flex buy in Dynasty because he could go either way coming back from an ACL injury, but Kelley thinks he's going to go in a positive direction. The Falcons organization now has to commit to Penix after Tua never materialized as competition and Cooper Rush imploded; if he can have a couple good weeks, he could be valuable. Kelley notes Penix is rising in Dynasty rankings and is all the team has to save the season.

Insight page

Michael Wilson

PositiveRole13:33

Michael Wilson has emerged as the Cardinals' preferred receiver over Marvin Harrison Jr. in 2025; the team's contract extension for Wilson signals organizational confidence and represents a role shift, with Wilson performing well when Harrison Jr. was previously sidelined.

Insight page
PositiveValue83:08

Matt Kelley identifies Michael Wilson as a buy-low in all formats, arguing that the offense won't be the Trey McBride show all year; teams will game-plan to shut down McBride, creating boom weeks for Wilson similar to his second-half performance last year, and with Harrison Butker gone, Wilson's projection can now be calculated without that context.

Insight page

Nicholas Singleton

NegativeRole78:58

Matt Kelley notes Nicholas Singleton starting the year inactive in week one is not a buy low because no one has moved him down; this is expected for a day three running back who will become active week two and start getting carries as the season progresses, a typical NFL pattern.

Insight page

Oronde Gadsden

PositiveBreakout40:25

Gadsden's breakout was predictable from a fantasy perspective because the Chargers' offensive scheme was fundamentally misaligned with Justin Herbert's skill set. Dynasty and best ball players who drafted Gadsden early understood the offense would eventually need to feature him more prominently. Matt Kelley rated Gadsden very highly in FAB bidding suggestions on Patreon, even noting that if he were available in tight end premium leagues, the value would be exceptional.

Insight page

Parker Washington

PositiveBreakout0:08

Matt Kelley is targeting Parker Washington rookie cards and explicitly calling him a breakout candidate; Kelley notes Washington is a former undrafted rookie who is "about to break out and most people never saw it coming."

Insight page
PositiveValue11:20

Parker Washington Plus was available as a trade package for Marvin Harrison Jr. in Dynasty; Matt Kelley regrets not accepting this offer, suggesting Parker Washington Plus represented better value than holding Harrison as his value deteriorated.

Insight page
NegativeValue58:18

Matt Kelley notes that to acquire Parker Washington in draft negotiations, you need to 'shoot higher'—implying his ADP or asking price is lower than his perceived value, requiring an above-market offer to secure him.

Insight page
PositiveValue81:39

Matt Kelley recommends buying high on Parker Washington, suggesting a favorable buy window for the receiver.

Insight page
PositiveValue82:00

Matt Kelley recommends buying high on Parker Washington, using a skeet shooting analogy to suggest you need to shoot in front of the clay disc—implying you should get ahead of the market on Washington.

Insight page

Quentin Johnston

NegativeRole36:03

Johnston is positioned as the inferior option compared to Trey Harris in the Chargers' receiver room. Harris is described as a simply better football player, and with the offensive scheme shift to 11 personnel, Harris is expected to see increased snaps and featured routes at Johnston's expense.

Insight page

Rico Dowdle

PositiveValue78:35

Matt Kelley identifies Rico Dowdle as a buy low running back opportunity, citing very encouraging week one usage and noting he's incredibly cheap everywhere with people letting him go in all leagues.

Insight page

Sam Darnold

NegativeRole64:01

Jackson Smith-Njigba is performing at an elite level even without Sam Darnold under center for the Seahawks, which underscores how good Smith-Njigba is in the context of that offense and defense.

Insight page

Sean Tucker

PositiveValue77:30

Matt Kelley drafted more Sean Tucker than Kenneth Gainwell in the offseason, indicating preference for Tucker's value profile over Gainwell's peak-hype year.

Insight page

Shedeur Sanders

PositiveBreakout82:00

Matt Kelley expects the Browns will eventually turn to Shedeur Sanders at quarterback and believes he could be a fun option for the team going forward.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

NegativeProjection59:03

Matt Kelley identifies Tee Higgins as a player negatively impacted by the Bengals' unexpectedly strong defense, which has become a problem for the team's offensive fantasy output. The improved Bengals defense reduces shootout potential and limits Higgins' scoring ceiling, as the team will not need to rely on high-volume passing to come back in games.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

PositiveValue79:18

Matt Kelley views Tony Pollard as a buy low, betting that he will be traded from the Titans to a team with an injury need where he could be amazing in the second half with a better team. Kelley expects a rational front office to clear the deck for Singleton by moving Pollard, assuming he stays healthy.

Insight page

Travis Etienne

NegativeUsage49:19

Etienne ceded 50% of the workload to Kendra Miller in week one, then saw Alvin Kamara take significant work in week two. Matt Kelley notes that despite Etienne's large contract and the Saints' high-scoring offense, the fantasy point-rich opportunities have not materialized as expected. Projections have been adjusted downward to approximately 190 carries and 50 targets, which Kelley states is not RB1 production regardless of offensive context.

Insight page
PositiveValue54:05

Matt Kelley indicates that drafting multiple shares of Travis Etienne was a sound strategy, contrasting favorably with the Marvin Harrison Jr. bust call; implies Etienne delivered value relative to draft capital.

Insight page
PositiveValue74:13

Matt Kelley identifies Travis Etienne as a dynasty buy-low despite current market disgust; argues Saints' recent losses have forced shock hero ball and comeback situations, but schedule improves significantly with home games vs. Raiders, Atlanta, Minnesota, and later matchups vs. Arizona and Atlanta. Kelley expects Etienne to be ranked higher in dynasty rankings than some expect, explicitly stating "we are definitely not going to be burying him."

Insight page

Tre Harris

PositiveBreakout36:03

Harris becomes a more interesting fantasy asset now that the Chargers are forced to run 11 personnel almost exclusively due to injury. Harris is described as a simply better football player than Quinton Johnston and is someone you'd want on your team. With increased snaps, more routes, and more featured routes in the new offensive scheme, Harris has actual upside in the revised Chargers offense.

Insight page
PositiveUsage36:08

Harris is playing more snaps, running more routes, and receiving more featured routes; this increased role is expected to unlock the Chargers offense by giving Justin Herbert a deep-shot first read, which aligns with his optimal progression style (deep to shallow rather than lateral scanning). Harris had a 53-yard catch last week exemplifying the type of play that will propel the offense.

Insight page
NegativeRole82:48

Matt Kelley acknowledges that Trey Harris will have some good weeks in the Chargers offense, but frames him as secondary to Ladd McConkey's role in the team's offensive strategy.

Insight page

Trey McBride

PositiveValue11:37

Trey McBride is cited by Matt Kelley as a proven player whose value was overlooked when speculative assets like Colson Loveland were drafted ahead of him; represents the safer, production-backed alternative to projection-based tight end picks.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

PositiveValue55:56

Matt Kelley drafted Tyler Warren in a tight end premium league and found him to be a strong value pick that allowed him to stack elite wide receivers like Zay Flowers while maintaining positional flexibility.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

PositiveValue55:56

Matt Kelley notes that Zay Flowers fell to him at incredible value in a tight end premium league, allowing him to stack elite wide receiver talent while waiting on running back depth.

Insight page
PositiveValue81:43

Matt Kelley identifies a nice little buy window on Zay Flowers, indicating a favorable entry point for the receiver.

Insight page
PositiveValue82:24

Matt Kelley identifies a nice little buy window on Zay Flowers, suggesting a favorable entry point for acquiring him.

1:47Nothing hits quite like the start of an NFL season.
1:51Before it begins, we know almost everything there is to know about how the season's going to play out.
1:58We know all the surprise players, all the disappointments, which NFL teams will be good.
2:04We know the league-winning players, and like clockwork every year, the NFL hits our assumptions and presumptions like a blitzing linebacker.
2:11Jackson Dart is hurt already? Colston Loveland has fewer points than who?
2:16Sam Rausch? What is this madness? And what happened to the season we thought we all knew so well?
2:23Today, we're diving into all of it, and joining me is a man who needs no introduction, Matt Kelly, the Podfather.
2:31So let's get to it. It's time to dominate.
2:34Hey, welcome to the Dominator, Matt. Hey, this is great, man.
2:38This is the new show. Happy to be on.
2:42And you got me at a good time, man.
2:45I've been totally immersed in NFL player news. I've been working on the seasonal projections, weekly projections, Dynasty.
2:52And so I pretty much have takes on every single player.
2:56Just hit me, baby. Hit me, Dan. Yeah, that's what we're here for.
3:01We're here to hit you. I mean, you know, I know the past couple years you've been busy with other projects and everything.
3:10But yeah, this year you can definitely sense that, you know, Matt's got his head back in the game.
3:17He's got the takes ready to go and, you know, firing off.
3:21So, you know, and to my point in the intro, I mean, it seems like every year we say, this is the weirdest fantasy season ever.
3:31You know, it's like everywhere I go, everybody I talk to, this season is so weird.
3:37This is the weirdest one ever. You think that's true this year?
3:42Not at all. I think this is a pretty normal season.
3:46This is what we've expected. This is what it usually is.
3:50You have a bunch of running back injuries. You have a bunch of wide receiver injuries.
3:56There's players that we thought would exceed expectations for reasons like they went to a small school.
4:02They were undrafted. They're in great offenses. You know, guys like Jalen Coker, undrafted from Holy Cross, didn't get the respect.
4:10Now he's basically on par with Tett McMillan, a top 10 pick.
4:15Then you have Devon Vele, who was operating in an offense everyone wanted exposure to because this guy was an old breakout.
4:23You know, I'm not so sure. He's in best ball.
4:27He was going outside pick 150, which is just absurd.
4:30So a lot of things are kind of playing out as I expected.
4:35Some things are playing out beyond my wildest imagination.
4:39In fact, some players are so bad that in my imagination, I couldn't even imagine how bad they would be.
4:46I couldn't even get my head around how bad Marvin Harrison Jr.
4:51could potentially be no matter what. Even you talk to R.C.
4:55Fisher, the original Marv Fader, there's just no way he would have said, oh, one catch in two games and he's healthy.
5:03So, yeah, a lot of these things I think are actually playing out as we thought.
5:09A lot of these, the players that are flaming out were highly speculative.
5:14They did not have big samples to fall back on.
5:18There was athleticism. There were scouting reports that we were bullish on, but not necessarily like actual NFL production.
5:25And then they're face planting. So in many ways, this is as we thought it would happen.
5:31The one interesting thing this year, which has really thrown me, is the overreaction of NFL players themselves to injuries.
5:39And it's not just Caleb Williams, right? Caleb Williams is the big meme right now.
5:44And I get it. I myself, I, I, and I never do this.
5:49I posted a thoughts and prayers tweet about Caleb Williams.
5:53And then I felt like a fool. But I also was very cautious about this Jeremiah Love.
5:59And sure enough, now I'm reading all this. Well, this was as expected.
6:04He's still dealing with a high ankle sprain. And we're like, yeah, that's why we weren't drafting him, among a bunch of other reasons.
6:13But then you have Ashton Gentry. Remember the prayer circle for Ashton Gentry?
6:18So the one aspect of this season, which I think is unique, is the players themselves overreacting to injuries, which then reverberates back on fantasy gamers.
6:28So my big lesson learned from this season that I'm going to apply to the rest of the season and future seasons
6:36is to let the injuries play out and not go into complete panic mode.
6:41Even when a guy is helicoptered out of the stadium, I'm going to be like, I'm going to wait.
6:49I'm going to wait. He's stretchered off in a helicopter.
6:52And I'm going to wait because you never know.
6:56He could be questionable for the next week. Yeah, 100%.
7:00I mean, you know, you look at, you know, the mechanism of Jackson Dart's injury and you go, it doesn't look too bad.
7:08He might make it back in a couple weeks.
7:12And then you looked at Caleb Williams going down like he was shot by a sniper or something.
7:18And it's like, oh, man. You know, when I first saw Caleb Williams, I was like, oh, that's got to be an Achilles.
7:27And then, you know, you look at it closer and you're like, nope, that was a hamstring.
7:33But you're like, that could be one of those really bad hamstring strains, you know, like Dak had a couple years ago.
7:42Or, you know, he misses like eight, nine games, something like that.
7:46You know, and then, yeah, he's driving off on the cart, fist pumping and everything else.
7:52It's like, come on, man. And, you know, I don't know.
7:56Maybe he was just frustrated when he was on the turf because he was so close to scoring.
8:03But, you know, Matt, why couldn't he just throw it to Colston Loveland, who was right out in front of him with nobody there?
8:12But, no, he's got to play hero ball. And, oh, he's going to get the touchdown here.
8:18You know, he's going to be the hero that saves Chicago.
8:23And instead of taking that easy flip, nope, he tries to turn the corner on a wet field, pops that hammy, and boom, there we go.
8:32We'll see what happens with Colston Loveland. I'm very interested to see what happens with Colston Loveland.
8:39I talked to Dan Fornick about Colston Loveland, who's an offensive line guru.
8:44And he was just talking about how Colston Loveland's never going to leave the field.
8:49He's such a great blocker. Pretty much the best all-around tight end talent, two-way tight end talent, goal line.
8:56Every situation is going to be out there. And then, sure enough, Colston Loveland's out there on every snap, running every route.
9:05He's just not getting targeted. This could just be new quarterback comes in, and suddenly Colston Loveland, the problem has been solved by Case Keenum or Tyson Badgent.
9:15We'll see what happens. I still believe in the talent.
9:19This is not a Marvin Harrison situation. These are very different players.
9:23These are incredibly different situations, especially because the tight end position is very volatile.
9:29It's very easy to go back to almost any tight end's game log and find a couple, one or two target games
9:37on there, just because they just happen to find themselves matched up with certain linebackers in certain situations where they have to
9:45be blocking more than they would, or the game plan didn't dictate the targets go their way.
9:52With the alpha-wide receiver, there's less excuse. There's much more cause for concern.
9:56And then you see the clips come out and the tape come in of Marvin Harrison Jr.
10:03and you're just kind of out there going through the motions, and you're like, okay, this guy's droppable.
10:10This guy's a sell-low in Dynasty. Get what you can get.
10:14But I'm frustrated because I knew I could have gotten, say, Jalen Coker straight up.
10:19I could have just done, you know, but I kept trying to go for a 20-27 first because I had this one.
10:28And I'm glad I did it. I'm glad I did it, man.
10:32I'm glad I didn't because I took over 20 orphans in 20 days.
10:37It was a project I did this offseason or stunt, as some might say.
10:42And I think I probably in those rosters had a couple Harrisons and got rid of a few, but ended up with one left.
10:51And I kept trying to get full value for him, and I couldn't.
10:56And I've been sitting on this asset just watching it leak value, and he's dropping so far so fast that you can't keep up.
11:05There's no way with a guy like that you can ever try to get full value.
11:11You have to just take what you can get.
11:15If I had just taken a 20-27 second when it was available to me, if I had just taken a Coker Plus
11:23or something like that, even a Parker Washington Plus, oh my God, imagine.
11:28Imagine. So I should have done that. I didn't.
11:31And now that's the lesson learned. But I still do have some successful Marv trades from this summer that I can fall
11:39back on to ease my ego a little bit with that.
11:43But if you were drafting him, if you were drafting him this year ahead of proven players that we know what they're
11:52going to do instead of this speculative guy. So think about the speculative assets.
11:57Certainly, Colson Loveland. I think that in conversations I've had with some people, there were instances where he went ahead of Trey McBride.
12:06We talk about Jonathan Brooks now hitting IR. This is another one where, hey, we're just going to go to the college
12:14profile, forget that he barely has any touches in the NFL, and we're just going to project him.
12:21So the highly speculative projection-based players are the ones that have face-planted the hardest this year.
12:27And we, all of us, again, including me, I have some Jonathan Brooks.
12:32I'm sure you have some players that you were excited about the upside, and in hindsight you're like, oof.
12:39We're all in it together, man. Yeah, 100%. And the thing is, we've seen highly drafted wide receivers face-planted before.
12:46Laquan Treadwell, Nikhil Harry, both face-planted, but they weren't Marvin Harrison Jr.
12:51They didn't have that pedigree. They didn't go to Ohio State.
12:55You know, this was, you know, it's like imagining the type of fall that Harrison had is just, it boggles the mind.
13:03I mean, you know, you can't conceive of it before the season.
13:08You're like, well, you know, he's going to be the, you know, he could be the third option maybe.
13:15You know, maybe Michael Wilson passes him. And, you know, there were stories you could tell yourself that, you know, Michael Wilson is not going to pass him.
13:25You could say, you know, well, last year the only times Michael Wilson really did well was when Marvin Harrison Jr.
13:33was hurt and out of the picture. You know, so why would we expect anything different?
13:39Well, I think the, you know, the Cardinals were telling us with that Wilson contract that they were not believers in Harrison Jr.
13:48anymore. So, you know, we learned things like that.
13:51And, you know, we just got to pick up the pieces and move on the best we can.
13:58I mean, you know, another interesting thing. You were talking about all these dynasty orphans you were picking up, Matt.
14:05When I was looking at orphans this spring, Marvin Harrison Jr.
14:10was a common thread throughout many of them, right?
14:13Yeah, I mean, if I had, let's say I had three or four Harrison out of 20 teams, that's a relatively high
14:21percentage for any given player on your team. So, yeah, I ended up finding myself with a bunch.
14:28Most leagues he was easy to move. One league he wasn't.
14:32And I'm stuck with him. And now I'm going to see what I can get.
14:38I'm actually, I did the thing on Sleeper where I took him off the block and I put him right on the block.
14:46And then everyone in the chat was LOLing. And that's the thing.
14:51I probably in that league took him off and put him back on the block instantly about three or four times just hoping and praying.
15:00But I just happen to be, sometimes you're in with 11 other guys and 11 other guys either subscribe to player profiler
15:09or they just happen to have a similar mindset to you.
15:13And they're just not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe on that.
15:18My best comp for him. And again, this is why I have not said, you haven't heard me say this.
15:26You can't find a clip of this. Me saying this is the strangest season or this is such a weird season because
15:34he reminds me of Mike Williams from USC. If you remember USC, Mike Williams, same draft capital, high pedigree guy.
15:42He was at USC when they were at the height of their power.
15:46And he came to the league and he just couldn't separate, couldn't do anything.
15:52And you're like, did he even play? How did this happen?
15:56And they're like, well, no, he's big and lanky and he can win contested balls against college corners.
16:03And he comes to the league and some guys, I could put myself in their shoes.
16:09You drop millions of dollars in my bank account.
16:12I'm not going to be as motivated as Parker Washington is to show up to facility at 5 a.m.
16:19That's why it was so encouraging to see Caleb Williams doing that.
16:24And I have to say, I am still bullish on Caleb Williams.
16:28I know that he is an unconventional player, but what he did in week one, you can't take away.
16:35That was a glimpse in his upside. He's very young.
16:39We have him higher in Dynasty on Player Profiler than, say, Jaden Daniels.
16:44I still want him very much. I think he is a buy low.
16:49Even if he has these histrionics on the sideline, that doesn't mean when he's on the field, he's not a great player.
16:57And you're right. In that game, there were terrible weather conditions.
17:01Things just worked against them. Every quarterback, including Tom Brady, has had dud weeks.
17:06So for me, I'm seeing him as a buy low, whereas a guy like a Marvin Harrison, he's got a pedigree, but he's a sell low.
17:16There you go. There you go. On that note, we're going to pay some bills here.
17:22We'll be right back. What does Player Profiler do best?
17:26Dynasty. We have the best Dynasty rankings there are.
17:29Oh, they have Titan Premium. Oh, Superflex. Oh, but also, Win Now mode versus Rebuild mode.
17:35The most sophisticated best rankings using Player Profiler data that exist in the world are available on playerprofiler.com.
17:42Big surprise. That's right. There's a trade analyzer to know, should I make this trade or not?
17:48And then there's a trade finder. There's Dynasty League Sync.
17:52There's an ADP tracker. All the tools Dynasty League players need.
17:56So get it now. It's $45, not per month, per year.
18:01So let's go start building super teams. Y'all know I have a Jeff Janis signed rookie card, one of my prized possessions.
18:09And this year, I'm taking card collecting more seriously.
18:12And that means targeting Parker Washington rookie cards. That's right.
18:16A former undrafted rookie. He's about to break out, and most people never saw it coming.
18:22And I've been inspired by a new app called Whatnot.
18:26Whatnot is the best place to find the right cards for you.
18:30Your sellers know their stuff. They aren't just people clearing out a garage.
18:35They're dedicated businesses going live around the clock, and they know what they're selling, what's rare, why condition actually matters.
18:43You can ask questions and get an instant answer because it's a community.
18:47You're not scrolling alone. You're in a live chat with other collectors, people who want to talk about the same rookies you want to talk about.
18:57Whatnot is why I'm much more into card collecting now than I was before.
19:02And you can get $20 off your first purchase right now.
19:07Just search Whatnot, W-H-A-T-N-O-T, in the App Store, download it, sign up, and start finding the things you've been chasing.
19:14That is Whatnot, W-H-A-T-N-O-T, in the App Store to get $20 off.
19:19Terms apply. This episode is brought to you by Welch's Fruit Snacks.
19:23Back-to-school season can be tough on parents, but choosing a snack you and your kids can both get behind doesn't have to be.
19:32Stock up on Welch's Fruit Snacks, made with whole fruit, and now made with no artificial dyes.
19:38It's a snack kids already love, and one you can feel good about giving them.
19:44Go back to school with Welch's Fruit Snacks, now made with no artificial dyes.
19:49That right there is a feature I use all the time, the Dynasty Deluxe.
19:54I mean, that trade finder, being able to say win now or rebuild or whatever, it's a fantastic deal.
20:01Nobody's getting anything like it. It is the year of the backup quarterback.
20:06So Kyle McCardell. Remember Keenan McCardell? Remember him? Oh, yeah.
20:10That was fun. Jimmy Smith. Still a good wide receiver coach, too.
20:15That's right. That's right. Yeah. He says this is the year of the backup quarterback.
20:20We had the big game from Drew Locke. Drew Locke can push the ball down the field, and he has Jackson Smith and Jigba.
20:29So absolutely, he was a nice little start in Superflex last week, where I did start him in a couple Superflex leagues,
20:38and I forgot to start him in one league, where I had locked in accidentally a player on Thursday night football in the Superflex spot.
20:47And so I talked about that on the Top Ten Takeaway show on Monday.
20:52You know, we're all guilty of this. We're all guilty for holding the bag on Marvin Harrison.
20:59We're all guilty for forgetting to swap out a guy on Thursday night football.
21:04It all happens to all of us. Don't worry about that.
21:08Jameis Winston. Jameis Winston is interesting. Jameis Winston, if you have Malik neighbors, thank God for Jameis Winston.
21:15If it were another team and you had Malik neighbors, this would be catastrophic.
21:20But fortunately, just like, we have Jameis, and I think Jameis with a full week to prepare, we're going to see a
21:28better Jameis than we saw last week. So I'm excited for Jameis.
21:33I think he's a buy in Superflex. I put a big bid in on him if possible.
21:39If you need quarterback help, he's, I think, a great option.
21:43This particular week, though, Case Keenum. But even if it's Tyson Badgen, I'd prefer Badgen.
21:49I'm hoping for Badgen. We're hoping for good news about Badgen's concussion.
21:53I don't know when he was concussed. So that was a surprise when we heard about the concussion protocol.
22:01But if Badgen plays, I'm absolutely streaming him. I think he'll get Loveland involved, as we talked about.
22:07He's also a sneaky Konami QB. He's just an all-around great athlete.
22:12And he's a great story, man. I love great stories.
22:16I love Parker Washington's story. I love his story.
22:19Rashad White, I loved his story when he came to the league, living out of his car from junior college, trying to make it.
22:28I love it. These are some of my favorite stories.
22:32So Badgen at a small school like Shepard, and then he only got the invite to the senior bowl, only got noticed
22:40because he was at the senior bowl. The only reason he got the invite to the senior bowl is because there was a guy that was injured.
22:50And then they called him, and he flew down to Mobile for two days of practice just because he wanted to be in the league.
22:59He was doing everything he could. He got the phone call, got on the plane, and then boom, finds himself one of the NFL's best offenses.
23:09Now he has an opportunity, hopefully, hopefully. It's crazy coincidence.
23:13He was at the same senior bowl as Roshon Johnson.
23:17And if you remember, Roshon Johnson has had these opportunities where players were injured ahead of him in the depth chart.
23:25So Swift goes down, and then you find out, oh, Roshon was actually in the concussion protocol.
23:31And he missed the game. And then I don't even remember the running back that they ended up going to that week.
23:39But it could have been. We could be viewing Roshon Johnson very differently had he just not had that concussion the week
23:48before he would have been the starting guy. And now all of a sudden, guy who flashed at the exact same senior
23:56bowl is on the exact same team. And he has his opportunity.
24:00And he's in the concussion protocol. Yeah. And you kind of wonder if Bajan wouldn't make the passing game just more on schedule than what Caleb does.
24:10Because I think Bajan is going to listen to the coaching staff a little bit more.
24:16Caleb just goes out there. And I mean, I'll give him all the credit in the world.
24:23Guy looks like Neo from The Matrix. Every time there's pass rushers coming at him.
24:28Because he's bending every which way. I mean, guys are coming at him.
24:33They've got him dead to rights. And somehow he manages to slide underneath it or take this huge weird step and somehow sling himself out of it.
24:44It's just very frustrating for a Vikings fan to watch him.
24:48But on the other hand, that kind of teaches him that, OK, I can do this anytime I want.
24:55I can run anytime I want. And when he does all that stuff, now the play is completely broken down.
25:02And whoever was supposed to be the first read, that's out the window.
25:07It's just, you know, it's whatever at this point if he doesn't actually run.
25:12Find Sam Rausch. Find Kalish Raymond. Right, right, exactly.
25:16I mean, you know, and that seems to be the ones who are getting open for him.
25:22So let's move into the Chargers offense. Matt, what do you think is wrong with it?
25:28And can it be fixed? Oh, man. I had to go back and I was like, why do we have him projected
25:36so well and so valuable for Dynasty? And I was like, oh, that's right.
25:42Because he put up like 23 fantasy points a game when he was 23 years old.
25:48Right, and he can run. He can do it all.
25:51He has like the biggest arm in the league.
25:55He's super accurate. It's like you built the perfect quarterback in the lab.
26:00That's what he is. And so to see this happening, this short-circuiting, it just reminds me again, like what we always talk
26:08about, that coach first analysis is the worst. It is the absolute worst.
26:13It's like when I read an article and when they start to talk about a player, if the first few sentences are dedicated to the coach, just close.
26:23Just the close button. Don't read anymore. Right, don't read anymore.
26:28Because these coaches, they can certainly help get them into better plays.
26:32They could optimize around the edges. But it's the players.
26:36Right? You have these coaches that coach great players and they get all these awards and then they go to a different
26:44team and they're coaching bad players and they're out of the league and they're a punchline and they're on TV talking about
26:52the games because they're no longer coaching. It happens time and time and time again.
26:58You can come from the best coaching tree. You can be young.
27:02You can have cool sunglasses. And you... Nothing. Right?
27:06Right? Actually, you go back. Wait. The Dolphins actually ran a slow offense.
27:11Hmm. Okay. I wonder what that's about. Maybe it's because Mike McDaniels not a super information processing genius.
27:17Maybe he's a little bit fraudulent. We're going to find out this year.
27:22Right? That's what I was thinking. I was like, man, I don't know what Mike McDaniels we're sure as hell going to
27:31find out this year because if he screws this up with that offensive line, oh boy.
27:37I have a theory about the Chargers. Now, when we talk about...
27:41Have you heard of the Ewing theory? No. Okay.
27:45The Ewing theory was invented by... I think popularized at least by Bill Simmons.
27:50That... And you mentioned this with Badgin. And that's the first thing I thought about.
27:55And then I immediately thought about the situation with the Chargers as well.
28:00That the Knicks would go on runs when Ewing was out.
28:04Right? Ewing would go out. He'd be out for a couple games.
28:09And then all these players in the Knicks would step up and have 30-point games.
28:15And John Starks would be amazing. And they'd win.
28:18And you'd be like, oh my God, they're better without Ewing.
28:22Right? They're better without Ewing. Because having Ewing there, it's a crutch for the offense.
28:28It slows the game down. It's just like what you're saying.
28:32It takes the team out of schedule. They have to go into the post and then back out and then back into the post and then back out.
28:42And the fluidity of the offense gets dragged down by this star player.
28:47And then you have to ask the question, does the star player actually making this offense better or worse?
28:54I think Caleb Williams makes the Bears better. Though I will say, whoever gets badging one day in free agency is going to be very happy.
29:04He's going to be a playoff quarterback at some point with a different team.
29:09I'm just curious to see who that is, what team that...
29:14I think he's a better player than say Mack Jones or one of these other backup quarterbacks that we know is destined to get another job sometime, somewhere.
29:24With the Chargers, whoever was crafting the roster in the offseason was building backwards.
29:29They were basically backward looking. What's been working in the last couple years around the NFL, oh, everyone's going 12 personnel.
29:37Oh, everyone wants two-way tight ends. They want to have an embarrassment of riches at the tight end position.
29:44Well, we want to do that too. That's what we're going to do.
29:49And then instead of taking a step back and saying, well, what kind of offense should we run?
29:56And whenever you have to ask that... You always ask that question, right?
30:01What's our best offensive configuration? What's the best way to deploy our players to get the most out of them?
30:08And the best offensive coordinators is they look at three players.
30:13They look at the right and left tackles and they look at the quarterback.
30:18It's like a little triangle. If we're going back to basketball, it's like a little triangle.
30:24Okay? Who do you got at the tackle positions?
30:27And then who's your... These are the most expensive positions, right?
30:31They command the most money. So that necessarily means that's the most in-demand position in the league for a reason.
30:39The tackles and the quarterback. Okay? What do you got?
30:43Well, okay. When healthy, we get the best tackles in the league and we got a quarterback that was built in a lab.
30:51So in that scenario, what you actually don't need is a bunch of 12 personnel.
30:5712 personnel is great to hide bad tackle play.
31:0012 personnel is a way to give your quarterback that extra half second by chipping with multiple tight ends and then getting them out in the flat.
31:10If you want to run a lateral offense, a lateral-based offense, the Eagles are great at a lateral-based offense.
31:17Why? And this is, again, Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts were at the same Senior Bowl.
31:23The two Senior Bowls I've been to, 2020 and 2023.
31:27One, Bageant was the best quarterback there and he showed up late.
31:32Okay? In 2020, it was Hurts, it was love, it was Herbert, it was amazing.
31:37It was an amazing, it was incredible. It was Michael Pittman, it was a list, it was an incredible year.
31:45It was just an incredible year. So, even when you're watching that offense, Jordan Love could push the ball when the ball
31:53comes out of Jordan Love's hand and you're like, oh my God, this guy's different.
31:59This ball just has this power, this initial power for the first, say, 10 yards of flight where you can, almost like
32:07someone who's a long driver when you go golfing with someone and the ball just leaves the tee differently.
32:14You saw that with Jordan Love. That was true back then.
32:18Then, Justin Herbert, and you're like, oh, well, this is another level.
32:23This is like love plus. This is just our observations at the Senior Bowl, right?
32:28And so, you have that, the last thing that you would want, but then you see Jalen Hurts.
32:35And Jalen Hurts was struggling in all these 1v1 drills, anything where it was point and shoot target throws, Hurts was the worst.
32:44He was worse than guys that weren't getting drafted.
32:47He couldn't do it. Just like at the Pro Bowl, Lamar Jackson couldn't do it.
32:53That's not what they do. They're good on the run.
32:57They're good at evading pressure. They're good at when things are breaking down, they can make things happen.
33:03Those offenses are best run laterally where you have a lot of guys crossing, a lot of guys getting open late in the progression.
33:12Okay? That's perfect for 12 personnel. So, if you wanted to do 12 personnel 100% of the time with Jalen Hurts, I guarantee that would be just fine.
33:23Okay? Justin Herbert's the exact opposite player. You don't need that at all.
33:28You're best vertical. Right? When you see them drafting a Brendan Thompson, like, that's perfect.
33:33You want field stretchers and then guys underneath. That's 11 personnel.
33:38That's perfect for 11 personnel. You post up Lad McConkie in the slot.
33:42You don't keep taking Lad McConkie off the field.
33:46So, they created a system where Lad McConkie comes off the field all the time.
33:51They're one of their best receivers. It didn't make any sense.
33:56So, whoever was signing Njoku and dumping all this money on Kohler had no idea how to build an NFL offense.
34:03I don't know how to blame Harbaugh. I don't know who the hell to blame for that.
34:10But someone needs to be held accountable. That was the core problem.
34:14When you saw them go after Kohler and Njoku, I was very confused by that.
34:20I think we all were because we also saw a Rondé-Gadson breakout.
34:25Just from a fantasy perspective, those of us that have Gadsden and Dynasty or had been drafting Gadsden in early best ball
34:33leagues were like, what are they doing? This doesn't make any sense.
34:37But guess what? Sometimes fantasy gamers know more than NFL people because that was true.
34:43That was true. So, they've been building an offense for Jalen Hurts instead of building an offense for Justin Herbert.
34:50And now, because of injury, they may actually luck into a better offensive set, a better set of plays to work from
34:59now that they don't have the 12 personnel as an option, as a card in the deck.
35:05Now they can actually just go, all right, well, I guess we've got to go to 11 personnel pretty much exclusively and we're like, thank you!
35:15So, that is the case for Herbert and this offense.
35:19That is the case not just for, of course, Arande Gadsden is like the checkers move, right?
35:25That's the 1 plus 1 equals 2. No shit you want Arande Gadsden.
35:30Okay, congrats. But, and we certainly, you know, patreon.com slash podfather, I certainly put Arande Gadsden way up in the suggested fab
35:38bidding and that's not even tight end premium. I mean, my God.
35:43I mean, if somehow he got dropped in tight end premium, he didn't, but if he did, oh my God.
35:50He didn't. He didn't, but if he did, oh my God.
35:54So now, a guy like Trey Harris becomes very interesting because Trey Harris is a simply better football player than Quinton Johnston.
36:03If I'm starting a football team, I'm pretty sure you would think this too.
36:08Most people that know Trey Harris would, this is a guy you want on your football team, right?
36:15Just like Jalen Coker is a guy you want on your football team, okay?
36:20Trey Harris, the guy you want on your football team.
36:24So now to have that guy playing more snaps, running more routes, but also more featured routes, that is actual, and what
36:32are you doing, 53-yard catch last week? Yeah. That is the type of thing that is going to actually propel Herbert.
36:40So instead of him looking laterally, he can now look first to a deep shot, right?
36:46So that's, that, the Justin Herbert offense is best when his first read is a deep shot, and then he, his progression
36:54goes from deep to shallow instead of scanning across the field.
36:58That's not, that's what they've been asking him to do, and he's clearly doesn't, he's not good at it.
37:05Now they might actually, this is going to help everybody.
37:09This is going to be the tide that lifts all boats, and I'm sorry about Kohler, if you're, if you're related to
37:17Charlie Kohler, if you're friends with David Njoku, I want the best for these guys.
37:23These are great players. They, well, they're not great players, but I'm sure they're great people, and they work hard, and they're
37:31gladiators, and I want them out there, and I'm sorry they're injured, but for fantasy, this might be the key that unlocks this offense.
37:40Yeah, it might be, and you know, for those in the chat who are talking about, well, it's all because the center
37:48went down, well, you know, Justin Herbert is an NFL quarterback who's been around for a while.
37:55Centers and guards go down all the time, you just, yeah, you can't be messing around with that kind of stuff.
38:03That's, you know, he's got to be able to overcome that.
38:07That should be an almost automatic thing for an offense, you know, between the offensive coordinator, you know, the offensive line coach,
38:15and the quarterback, they should be figuring out the protections so that they can just get it done.
38:22You know, this shouldn't be something that's really causing them a lot of problems inside of the game.
38:29Well, I would say though, on this, the one interesting part is, a center going down, that probably puts the most pressure
38:37on the coaching staff because that is basically a coach on the field is the center.
38:43So when you have to go to your backup center, it asks more of your offensive coordinator and your coaching staff, and
38:51when your offensive coordinator is a fraud, then, just like we saw last year with the Raiders, right, they had a fraudulent
38:59offensive line coach, who they had to have shadow meetings without him.
39:04They had the meetings with him, then they had a separate meeting without him because he didn't know what the fuck he was talking about.
39:13Okay, so clearly Mike McDaniel is not helping the situation because it does require more attention to detail and you have all
39:22these sloppy plays, all these penalties, that's coaching, man.
39:25So I do think coaching matters. I never said coaching doesn't matter.
39:29What I've said is coaching is not the reason guys succeed.
39:34that's not it, right? I mean, I believe George Seifert is the great example of this with the 49ers, okay?
39:41So they had the best offensive coach in the history of football.
39:46football. He left and the offense didn't decline at all.
39:49In fact, by some metrics it got better. So it's not about that.
39:54When there's challenges, when the center gets hurt, that's when the coaching actually matters.
40:00That's when you can actually help to at least keep things on schedule, not necessarily put guys in a position to blow the doors off versus be average.
40:10The coach can't do that. In fact, the coach can just do more damage than they can help.
40:17Typically, when a team is doing well, I'm going to credit the players, but sometimes, once or twice a year, you look
40:25at a team that's really struggling, in those cases, sometimes you look deeper, like with the Raiders last year and now with
40:33the Chargers this year, this is a little bit of a failure of coaching here.
40:39I think that's what we're seeing. Mike McDaniel, I hope he never gets another job again.
40:45I've seen enough of Mike McDaniel. I don't want to ever see him again.
40:50I don't want to see those sunglasses again. Never again.
40:54I have him right here. I have these right here.
40:58You see them? Do you recognize me? I'm a shitty offensive coordinator right now.
41:03Now I'm a terrible, overrated offensive coordinator. Now I'm just the pod father, whatever, you know me.
41:09And now, oh, really, really bad offensive coordinator. So hopefully he's gone and he can no longer poison what would otherwise be a good team.
41:19Well, there you go. But the Chargers' problems do go way farther back than McDaniel.
41:24Especially the penalties, too. It seems like they've always been a heavily penalized team.
41:30So I think we've got two things here. We've got a little bit of an institutional memory of, you know, or just,
41:38you know, the players kind of grow up into thinking that sloppy play is okay and the coaching staff is not doing anything about it.
41:47So it's kind of a one-two punch there. What about all this milk that Harbaugh was drinking?
41:54I thought he was tough. I thought he was a disciplinarian.
41:58This was the narrative. This is what I read in the athletic and all these places.
42:04And apparently it's none of it's true. It's all bullshit.
42:08Well, I mean, you know, everybody's got to draw their own conclusion on that.
42:13I see all the penalties keep happening year after year and I say, well, it is what it is at that point.
42:21You know, let the blame fall where it must.
42:24But let's move into a couple other backfields. Let's talk about the Patriots.
42:29We got Travion Henderson, Ramondre Stevenson. You know, ADP-wise in the offseason, they converged and then they crossed paths.
42:37I mean, you know, we were drafting Travion before we were drafting Ramondre and then they started kind of being about the same spot in the draft.
42:47And then all of a sudden it was like, oh, nope.
42:51You know, we're going to be drafting Ramondre before we take Travion.
42:55And, you know, week one, the Ramondre bowl case looked great.
42:59Week two, script completely flips. So, Matt, look in the crystal ball.
43:04Tell me what's the future of these two. Travion was a good player in college.
43:10Explosive. And the only reason he didn't produce more is because he was sharing a backfield with Quinshawn Judkins.
43:17And who can blame them, right? If you're the coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, I'm going to play both these guys.
43:25The strange thing was he was a good pass blocker in college.
43:29Once he got to NFL level linebackers and edge rushers, Travion really struggled.
43:34But last year, he played a lot. And he rushed the ball 180 times.
43:40He had almost 1,000 rushing yards and over 5.0 yards per carry.
43:44So we're talking about he had, let's see, over 200 touches.
43:48Because I know he had more than 20 catches.
43:52He had like 35 catches. So let's see he had like 215 touches last year.
43:57He was a top 24 running back in fantasy points per game.
44:02Anytime you could put up those kind of numbers as a rookie with draft capital, that's a great sign, man.
44:09That's why you deserve to be drafted ahead of the big bulky guy that can do everything but nothing that well.
44:17You've got to chase the upside in that particular scenario if you're in fantasy football.
44:23So I 100% agreed with Henderson over Stevenson all year.
44:27We never flipped the script with our rankings. It was always Henderson over Stevenson by at least a round.
44:34I believe that that's even more true now. the fact that he's healthy in the first week he comes back, he dominates the production.
44:43Part of it is due to again, coaches have a way of meddling more than they're helping.
44:49Right? And one of the ways they meddle is by benching players based on singular mistakes, which is totally unfair.
44:57I don't agree with benching Stevenson for a fumble.
45:00I think that's silly and it's nonsense. It just so happened that similar to the Chargers, we're going to get to the
45:08right place, but not because of anything the coaches did.
45:12It's in spite of the coaches. We're going to get to the right place.
45:17Right? They just happen to bench a guy for the wrong reasons instead of on any given touch just Travion guy.
45:25He gives us the best opportunity to win and score a touchdown.
45:30That's the reason he should be out there. And if he struggles with pass pro, find ways to hide that, to account for that.
45:39Chip here, shift there. Don't take him off the field for a guy that runs a 4-7.
45:45Don't do that, man. I get why Stevenson's on the team.
45:49He's a good player. To have a big guy like that, a 230 pound running back that you can put in in
45:57third down, that's kind of a cool situation. Right?
46:01If it's third and long and we really need good pass protection, then, yeah, bring in Romadre.
46:07He can handle any of these blitzes up the middle and give Drake May a chance to get out in space and complete a pass.
46:17So there's certainly a role for Stevenson on the Patriots.
46:20It just is not the RB1 role. It should be Henderson.
46:24He should be the early down guy that's giving these explosive plays and they have figured that out.
46:31I just don't give them credit for figuring it out for the right reasons.
46:37I think it really was this petty fumble driven flip of the roles and responsibilities, but whatever, man, I'll take it.
46:44Henderson, because he's so good, took the opportunity, ran with it, and now the coaches don't have to be involved.
46:52They just have to pull down the tape. It's obvious to everybody.
46:56It's going to be the Henderson show, I think.
47:00Yeah, let's hope he doesn't fumble. Oh, God. Henderson fumbles.
47:04That would be the worst. Don't do that. I mean, you know, but Dan, my God, we got to the right place for the wrong reasons.
47:13Let's just leave it alone. Yeah, I know. I just have to get that stuff out into the universe so that it
47:22happens on the show rather than on the football field.
47:25That's the idea here. You got to say it so it doesn't actually happen.
47:31That's the thought process. Chandler Mercer says, Stevenson has the most fumbles in the league the last couple of years.
47:38Yeah, Stevenson is certainly near the top of the league in fumbles.
47:43I don't know about fumbles per touch, but certainly he has a reputation for fumbling that goes back many years, not just the last couple of years.
47:53This is a longstanding reputation that he has. So the solution to that is not to just bench him.
48:00The solution to that is to put him in game situations where he doesn't actually have to take so many carries.
48:08Yeah, right. So what is he good at? He's good at pass blocking and catching the ball out of the backfield.
48:16So there's no reason to give him the ball on second and five.
48:21He is a second and five. If Ramadri's in the game, you're doing something wrong.
48:26It's not about the fumbling. One fumble can happen to anybody.
48:30If he does have a ball security general issue, that doesn't mean he should be benched.
48:36That just means that you need to tailor the offense to his strengths versus his weaknesses and the same with Henderson.
48:44And I didn't see that in week two. What I saw was this petty benching instead of, oh, we're going to optimize the offense.
48:53Now, there are certainly offenses that do a better job of optimizing, but mostly even even Mike Vrabel was touted as one
49:01of the great coaches for a while. Right. This is a this is a big deal.
49:07If I follow the Patriots, it was a big deal.
49:11We got Vrabel. Right. What did we really get?
49:15Honestly, what did we get with Harbaugh? What did they really get?
49:19OK, narratives, coach narratives. You get edge in fantasy just by ignoring the coach narratives.
49:25That's one of the easiest edges ever in the history of fantasy football.
49:30Yep. There you go. So let's look in on the Saints backfield.
49:34You know, I for one did not foresee Etienne seeding 50% of the workload the first week to Kendra Miller.
49:42And now with Kamara after seeing Kendra you get 50% of the workload.
49:47That didn't surprise me so much. You know, and of course, poor Kendra he's, you know, thanks for handling half the workload.
49:55Now you're inactive for week two. You know, but thanks for playing.
49:59What is your crystal ball telling you about the backfield here?
50:03I mean, they paid Etienne a ton of money, a ton of money to be the guy.
50:10But of course, they're paying Kamara a ton of money also to, you know, ride off into the sunset with him.
50:18Where are we going here? Well, in general, we like to fade bad offenses and be bullish on the high scoring offenses.
50:26This is what led us to be ahead of consensus on a guy like Vele, on a guy like Olave, on a
50:34guy like Shuck, on a guy like Jawan Johnson.
50:38However, you are necessarily going to end up being a little out over your skis on a guy like H&TN.
50:45It happens. I don't think there's any learnings here at all.
50:49This was an all purpose back who signed a big contract and it was going to play for a high scoring team
50:58and there was real TD equity and all the high fantasy point scoring opportunities should have been driven his way.
51:05Sure, Kamara will be out there on third and long, but that's not a great fantasy point rich environment for a running back.
51:14The fantasy point rich environments week in, week out were supposed to be H&TNs and that has not played out.
51:21Week one was certainly the canary in the coal mine, not week two.
51:26Right? Week two solidified it, confirmed it, but we were terrified after week one because there was no excuse.
51:33There was nothing there. There was an injury, game script, there wasn't anything.
51:38So after week one, we started immediately adjusting projections, moving his carry share down, moving his target share down, and then we had to do it again.
51:48And so now we have him projected less than 200 carries.
51:52I don't know how you could do anything else.
51:56I mean, like 50 targets and like 190 carries, that's not an RB1, that's not even close.
52:02I don't care what offense you're in. So you just have to get real with this guy.
52:09And you just, if you're a fantasy football analyst with H&TN, I say just dust yourself off, move on, and there's not
52:17a lot you can learn about anything that you did wrong, projecting ETN, H&N to be a top 50 player in fantasy.
52:25If you didn't, I don't know what you were looking at because I think almost everyone that I know that knows anything was pretty bullish on H&TN.
52:35It was hard to find a case against him, and I don't even know what the case is against him.
52:43There was something against him with the coaching staff.
52:46I don't know what it is, but now we're two weeks in and we have to adjust.
52:52I hate it. I heard people fading him because he didn't get enough yards per carry in Jacksonville.
52:59Just weird stuff like that. Let's think a little bit here.
53:03Sometimes you're right for the wrong reasons. I wouldn't say to somebody like that.
53:09They paid him all that money, so clearly they weren't looking at it.
53:13Someone, whoever was signing him, wasn't looking at the yards per carry as an issue.
53:19I don't know. To try to argue with somebody like that, you would have to reprogram their thought process to the point
53:27where they'd even be receptive to an argument that makes sense.
53:32It's just not worth it. One of the many things we learn on X is some people just aren't worth arguing with.
53:40That's your opinion. If you drafted a bunch of Marvin Harrison Jr., you're a fool.
53:45If you drafted a bunch of Travis H.E. and Etienne, you're fine.
53:50Just don't worry about it. You're good. There you go.
53:54Let's get into, Matt, the Fantasy Carnivals. I'm interested.
53:57Who do you think are going to be Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys of last year?
54:03High-powered offense, terrible defense that forces them to keep their foot mashed on the accelerator full-time on offense.
54:10What are those teams for this year? The best value team clearly is Carolina in that situation.
54:16Carolina, it's all value. Ted McMillan has simply delivered.
54:20This is the thing, man. There is no better reason why you fade players on bad teams in the top 50, which is what I do.
54:29It's a pretty ABC tactic. This isn't very complicated.
54:33I know. It's pretty arbitrary, pretty simple, rudimentary. but what is the case?
54:38Like, Ted McMillan, you would need the offense to be this for him to be that.
54:44So, I mean, you got lucky. If you drafted him, you got lucky that this offense is what no one could have possibly imagined.
54:53That's how he gets there, right? And you did that.
54:56Instead, we were very bullish on guys like, oh, I don't know, Jalen Coker.
55:02And I can't say that we were super bullish on Chuba Hubbard.
55:06But I have to tell you, if you went Hero RB or Zero RB, Chuba Hubbard fell into your lap.
55:14In fact, we had debates. If you go back to Trade Gods episodes, where we're talking about these startups, me and Coach
55:22are talking about these startups, and he's like, he's like most people, man.
55:27Coach is, he's a normal football guy. He knows a lot, but he's just like, sorry, man, Chuba Hubbard's not really moving the needle for me.
55:37And I'm like, yeah, I know, man. It wasn't like I came back with this incredible, super strong argument for Chuba Hubbard
55:45because this is the Carolina offense, I thought. But I also was like, I need someone to start week one.
55:52I don't know what I'm going to do. I got to start somebody week one, Hero RB, Zero RB.
55:59I remember there was a draft where I went bully tight end, and I went Bowers Tyler Warren and tight in premium
56:08ended up and all this incredible value kept falling to me at wide receiver like Zay Flowers and I was just like,
56:16oh my God, I don't have a running back yet.
56:20And it was super flex, so I had to draft a couple quarterbacks.
56:25Next thing I know, I've drafted, I don't know, maybe that one league I better drafted Stafford and then Devontae Adams fell
56:33to me, so I'm like, I guess I look up, I'm like, coach, the only starter left is Chuba Hubbard.
56:40I gotta get him. He's like, you sure? Sure you don't want to wait around and get Jonathan Brooks?
56:48I'm like, I'll make a deal with in But in Dynasty, because things can play out all kinds of different ways and
56:56much deeper rosters, you can absolutely handcuff and it's not necessarily going to be betting against yourself as it is in redraft and seasonal leagues.
57:05I was like, I'll make a deal with you.
57:09I know I'm a boomer, but I feel like I need a to get Chuba.
57:14I'm not sorry. This happened to me over and over again.
57:18I draft Scadaboo as my RB1 and then I'm panicking I'm like, I gotta start someone weak.
57:25I gotta go Chuba Hubbard. I'm happy with all this Chuba Hubbard I have, but I just want to admit this was
57:33not based on some super sophisticated bulls case for Chuba Hubbard.
57:37It leagues, which he was in dynasty. It was absurd.
57:41Double digit rounds. He's still there. He's still there.
57:44He's still there. I even got him around after Jonathan Brooks went and I was like, fine, I guess I'll take Hubbard again.
57:53And now I'm like, here we are. Trust me, the Carolina offense being the new Lions was not one of the reasons why.
58:02In fact, again, it was one of the reasons why I didn't get a lot of Tett McMillan.
58:08So I'm not going to it's the anti Marvin Harrison where you needed to really shoot lower if you want to get a deal done.
58:18If you want to get a deal done for Parker Washington and Jalen Coker, you've got to just shoot higher.
58:25If search what not W-H-A-T-N-O-T in the app store, download it, sign up, and start finding the things you've been chasing.
58:33That is what not W-H-A-T-N-O-T in the app store to get $20 off.
58:38Terms apply. This episode is brought to you by Welch's Fruit Snacks.
58:42Back to school season can be tough on parents, but choosing a snack you and your kids can both get behind doesn't have to be.
58:52Stock up on Welch's Fruit Snacks made with whole fruit and now made with no artificial dyes.
58:58It's a snack kids already love and one you can feel good about giving them.
59:04Go back to school with Welch's Fruit Snacks now made with no artificial dyes.
59:09You know who I think is probably possibly out of the fantasy carnival business might be the Bengals.
59:16Their defense is suddenly looking legit. Too good. They lost Trey Hendrickson.
59:20Can you believe this is happening? I know, right?
59:24I can't believe it. You lose one of the best edge rushers in the league and your defense gets a lot better.
59:32Now, there might be some people that are super defensive personnel experts and they're like, I saw this!
59:39They drafted player X and they signed player Y and player Z got healthy and more.
59:45Okay, great. I didn't have it, man. I didn't have it.
59:49I didn't see it. Maybe there's some data points that we missed that you saw.
59:55Good for you. But it is a problem. It's a problem for everybody.
59:59Chase Brown, Jamar Chase, all the chases, T. Higgins, Burrow.
60:03Burrow, you know, is, he's pretty stable in Dynasty for this reason.
60:08but in seasonal leagues, yeah, he's just not going to be what we thought because you need the defense, especially the secondary,
60:16to allow teams to come back in the second half.
60:20That's the way these shootouts happen. That's how they unfold.
60:24And when I see games that I think are going to shoot out, kind of get strangled in the third quarter, I'm like, uh-oh, don't do that.
60:34Can you let them throw? What are you doing?
60:37Stop sacking them. Bengals! Like, I'm mad at their defense.
60:41It's, yeah. So, you're, Smith and Jigba is now even though he's on a great team with a great defense, he doesn't have T.
60:50Higgins. Right. Okay? That's the difference. Now, it's almost some parity between these two teams where the defenses are much more similar
60:58this year than they were last year. And with Jamar Chase, it's like, I mean, you're going to start to see the disparity really pull away.
61:08So, last week, Smith and Jigba took over the wide receiver one spot and Dynasty on Player Profiler.
61:15Now, you're going to see that disparity really start to widen.
61:19And we could be, man, we could be at a place where we started the year where Josh Allen was way out in front, right?
61:28And he's maintained his lead. He's actually, he's pulled away.
61:32At tight end, Bowers started the year way out in front, and now that's tightened.
61:37He and McBride are coming close to parity. At running back, Jameer Gibbs, right?
61:43But we'll see, with Michael Penix back, that's an interesting topic to talk about today, is with Michael Penix back, that's definitely going to help B.
61:53John Robinson. That's not just about London and Pitts.
61:56That's also about B. John Robinson. I can't believe how much we have riding on Michael Penix now.
62:03I did not see that coming. But we have a lot of, I mean, it's amazing.
62:09I tuned into SiriusXM Fantasy just to hear some bad analysis, just to hear people hymn and hawn and not give any conviction behind their take.
62:18That's why you listen to other podcasts that are not on the Player Profiler Network.
62:24and the first thing I heard was, well, everything's going to change now that Michael Penix.
62:30And I was like, this was not something anyone was saying.
62:34Michael Penix was not the same. And then sure enough, you look at the dynasty rankings, even on our site, and it's
62:42like, yeah, Penix is starting to rise. This is going to happen.
62:47Tua never materialized as competition. Cooper Rush imploded. And so now the organization necessarily has to commit to Penix.
62:54And this has long-term consequences. This is good for everybody if he's coming back from an ACL.
63:00So there's no guarantee. But we know that he's all they have now to save this team.
63:07And if he can somehow have a couple good weeks, whoo!
63:11Like, he's an interesting super flex buy because he could go either way.
63:16But I think he's going to go in a positive direction.
63:20And I think it's going to help everybody. It's going to help hopefully Bijon keep Gibbs in sight, not let Gibbs pull away.
63:29But I think by the end of the year, I expected Bowers to have pulled away.
63:35But we could see by the end of this year, Jackson Smith and Jigba have pulled away from everybody else to a
63:43greater degree than Josh Allen is from the other quarterbacks and Bowers is from the other tight ends and Gibbs is from the other running backs.
63:53That's pretty interesting and cool that we have a wide receiver that is thriving at that level with such a great defense.
64:01I love it. It's highly unusual for sure. So unusual, but it also indicates how good he is.
64:08I mean, you can watch hard knocks and you can it's very apparent watching a game on Sunday.
64:14It's very apparent how good he is, right? But in the context of that offense and that with that defense, it's like,
64:23wow, you knew there would be more opportunities without Kenneth Walker and that they wouldn't have as much of a run first identity.
64:31And, but now for him to do what he's doing, even without Sam Darnold under center, my goodness, my goodness, Dan, he might be the number.
64:41Well, he is trending toward being the number one league winner, like the guy that's going to be in the most money
64:49winning teams across FFPC, NFFC, underdog, fast draft, all these platforms.
64:54He might be the highest percentage of like advancing teams.
64:57It just might be, did you draft JSN in the first round or not?
65:03It might come down to that. Yeah, it could.
65:06The one thing working against him is there are a lot of other first rounders that are absolutely smashing so far this
65:14year, which is often not the case. even some guys who are going in the early second round.
65:21I'm looking at a guy like Ken Walker and I'm going, this guy is doing actually what we want B.
65:28John Robinson to be doing. Right. And he's on that better team with a quarterback that you know is going to be good.
65:37It's like all the questions with B. John aren't there with Walker, which makes him, I think, a really, really interesting play, especially at Dynasty.
65:47I don't know where I haven't looked in the past week where you guys have him ranked.
65:53Where is he on our site? Do we have Kenneth Walker right up there behind B.
65:59John? Because I think he probably ought to be.
66:02We don't. He's RB8 right now, but he's behind.
66:06Because of age, he's behind Gentie. He's behind Love.
66:09He's behind Hampton. And he's right there. There's a tier with James Cook, Jonathan Taylor, Kenneth Walker where they're all just intermixed.
66:17But again, this hasn't been updated since week two's performances.
66:21So by the end of the day, I don't have the data in front of me.
66:27But if I had to guess, because he's 26 and the other two running backs in that tier are 27, he will
66:35be RB6 when the day is out. And then the big question is going to be how soon can he take over Hampton?
66:44He's very much inside of Hampton. He is only actually two and a half years older than Hampton.
66:51And this offense is a we are coming to Jesus on this offense as much as I am hopeful that the Chargers
66:59offense turns around by the by necessity, the necessity of having to go back to 11 personnel exclusively almost.
67:06I'm hopeful that's the case, but you have to get real after two games.
67:11So it's him leapfrogging Taylor Cook Hampton is basically a straight line.
67:16And yeah, in dynasty, it's a very tall order for a 26-year-old running back to overcome a top five pick like Jeremiah Love.
67:25Yeah, and I can see that. it probably won't happen because I think that Jeremiah Love is going to start getting better
67:33simply because the data indicates that every week that goes by post high ankle sprain, the player becomes a little bit more
67:41agile, a little bit more explosive, and Gentry's putting up huge numbers, so he's not going to surpass Gentry.
67:48So there, I think he has a pretty hard ceiling at RB5, but I think in a couple weeks if he keeps
67:56performing, he could be the entrenched RB5, and there's not a huge gap between him and Jeremiah Love.
68:03Yeah, and I think honestly, I know age matters, but on the other hand, with running backs, we also have to take
68:11a look at who's having the killer season right now, and is likely to maybe have another one next year, and potentially even the year after that.
68:22I mean, I think Ken Walker is a guy who's in that window where, you know, I can look at him and
68:30I can say, this year for sure if he stays healthy, next year for sure if he stays healthy, and probably the
68:38year after that, you know, if they keep committing to him, you know, he's got that kind of talent.
68:45It's very strange, though. You have to admit it's very strange.
68:49Four years in the league, right? Yeah. Four years in the league, he was never better than RB12 in fantasy points per game.
68:58Okay. Oh, yeah. So he capped out at 16.5 fantasy points per game in 2024.
69:04I don't know. I don't know what was going on.
69:07I mean, clearly, Seattle knows what they're doing. This is a well, this is an above average managed and coached organization, and
69:16they got him to Super Bowl MVP and let him walk.
69:20They had to let him walk, though. They had so many elite players that needed to be signed to extensions, specifically Jackson
69:28Smith and Jigba and many others, that I knew it was an impossible task.
69:33When you looked at the roster and all the expiring contracts, you're like, okay, Kenneth Walker is gone.
69:40We know that, and it's going to be a hard decision, but they're smart enough to make that decision because they have to know.
69:49This isn't like Dave Gettleman's Giants. They know the value of the running back position, but he's never had 10 touchdowns in a season.
69:58He's going to have 10 touchdowns in like five games.
70:02So it's interesting. It's interesting. Certainly, if you wanted to put him and post him up at, say, even RB2 for this
70:10season, in seasonal ranks for this year, if you wanted to go Gibbs, Walker, Bijon, I wouldn't blink.
70:17Yeah, and that's if I was redrafting the first round, I think that's how I'd do it.
70:23Except I'd throw JSN in there as well before Bijon.
70:27I think the reason I say the advance rate on the JSN teams is going to be so high, that's because there
70:35were these running backs like Kenneth Walker that you could get.
70:39So I think the JSN start, and especially the JSN Walker teams, are going to be just, they're going for sure.
70:47In some of the high stakes, it was tough to get a JSN Walker, just because Walker got pushed up so early,
70:56to the point where JSN didn't fall back far enough in the first round to where you could pair him up with Walker.
71:04That's a pretty sicko league for that to happen.
71:08I saw that happen at the NFFC late, late, late in the summer.
71:12You saw the, Walker was just, he was, he was just such a fun thing to watch him go from third round
71:21to early third round to late second round to mid second round to early second round.
71:27You saw the movement, right? You saw the march up the rank, and those guys, I like to draft those guys because
71:35oftentimes there's some hesitancy to select them because it feels like you're getting bad value because you're, well, the argument could be,
71:43well, the time to get him was three months ago.
71:47And I didn't get it, I didn't get him three months ago, and if I didn't get him three months ago, I
71:55don't want to get him now because his ADP was X, now it's Y.
72:01There is a psychological effect there. I have tried my best to train myself to see this actually as a positive indicator
72:09that there's, especially when it's smart people processing new situations, when you see a player in a new situation start to climb
72:17like that, you start to think, okay, people have figured this out.
72:22It was kind of like, you saw Duntavian Wicks moving up too.
72:26And so there's some smart people figuring out this new situation and what it means for Duntavian Wicks.
72:33that was another one where you could buy the upward trajectory, buy the positive ADP movement and get out ahead of it.
72:41Actually, the funny thing is about eight years ago, I had a podcast with Chad Schroeder and he talked about exactly this.
72:49He talked about exactly this. He talked about trying to get ahead of upward moving ADPs and buying the upward moving ADPs.
72:58And I remember that being a whole topic of a podcast and now we're here and we're looking at my guesses if
73:06I had to guess, I don't have his rosters in front of me.
73:11If I had to guess, Chad Schroeder has a lot of Kenneth Walker, if I had to guess.
73:18Yeah, I think he's got a good amount of it.
73:21The thing is with Chad, he is such a value drafter.
73:25Because he does so many leagues, he will just sit there and pick off value.
73:31He doesn't need to push up players because he's going to get that player at a value in one of the leagues that he's drafting.
73:40Which makes him very interesting to compete against because you're competing against the entire portfolio in a way in these contests.
73:48You've got to be able to find a team that gets as good or better value than one of his 80 teams or 100 teams or whatever.
73:58It makes it fun for us guys who do a little bit less volume than that.
74:05I certainly have my volume, but I'm not at Chad Schroeder level.
74:09Not at all. Let's get out of a couple of things.
74:13I want to talk dynasty buy lows and sell highs and then get a bold prediction from you too.
74:20Oh boy. Buy low in dynasty. It's always tricky, man.
74:24I think we've talked about a couple of them.
74:27I mean, like Travis ETN, HAN. I think that's one right there.
74:32People are disgusted by him right now. They really are.
74:36I think that there's going to be games where the Saints are winning and they've been losing in these games.
74:43They've had to play comeback and they've just said it's they've just switched over into shock hero ball in these games.
74:51And so let's look at the Saints schedule. I just think we look at the Saints schedule, see if we can feel better about it.
75:00They're playing the Raiders at home. I know the Raiders are better this year, but Raiders at home is good.
75:08Then they get Atlanta at home, Minnesota at home.
75:11So don't forget, the Saints went on the road.
75:15Okay. Again, they beat Baltimore, but that was one of those games, right, where Baltimore was up and the Saints came back
75:23in the fourth quarter, 15 points in the fourth quarter to come back and beat Baltimore.
75:29Most of the minutes played by Saints players have been behind.
75:33And that's a potential reason that you might want to sell high on a guy like Devon Vele because Jordan Tyson is coming back.
75:42I wouldn't do that because I don't know what the hell Jordan Tyson is.
75:47I'm just going to hold Vele and make Jordan Tyson prove to me he's any good.
75:53Right? And you didn't pay that much for Vele anyway.
75:57I mean, look at the schedule though. They've got at New York, which no Jackson Dart, that's week six.
76:04Week seven, they've got Pittsburgh at home. Then week nine, they've got Cleveland at home.
76:10Then they've got a shootout with Carolina, a shootout with Chicago.
76:14It's a long season. And so the last time I checked, Kendra Miller is not this massive needle moving running back.
76:22Okay? Talk about yards per carry. Okay? Okay. Versus Kendra Miller, chop please.
76:27Right? And Alvin Kamara, he's a good, reliable third down back at this point in his career.
76:33Not a major threat. And probably going to miss some more games, which is just what happens when guys start having lower body injuries.
76:42The age starts to factor in once you start having lower body injuries stacking up on top of each and then it
76:51only gets better and better from there. So again, they play Carolina again in week 14.
76:57It get tough game at Tampa in week 15, but then to close out the year, man, week 16, Arizona, week 17 at Atlanta.
77:06So this is, this is good. So yeah, I think that, I think that people might be surprised with where we're going
77:14to have Travis HN ETN in the dynasty rankings, not necessarily burying him like some might expect that he should be.
77:22We are definitely not going to be doing that.
77:25A guy that I think is a buy high right now is Bucky Irving.
77:30Bucky Irving's usage has been better than anyone would have expected, and I'm a big Kenneth Gainwell fan, but I talked about this in the offseason.
77:40I actually ended up drafting more Bucky Irving and Sean Tucker than Kenneth Gainwell, because this was the first offseason that people respected Kenneth Gainwell.
77:49And I'm like, if this is the first year you're going to respect a guy that's 30 years old, I can't be drafting him.
77:58I had him on all the others. I don't need more Gainwell, thanks.
78:03The year people discover the thing you've been super high on is the year you're probably going to get a lot less of him.
78:12And that's cool. That's cool. That's fine. So I think that I'm buying high.
78:18I think Bucky Irving has plenty of room to run.
78:21I still think we're a couple weeks away from people fully understanding that Bucky Irving is back as a bell cow back.
78:30I think that another buy low potentially in all leagues, not just Dynasty.
78:35Rico Dowdle is going to have weeks. The usage for Rico Dowdle, especially week one, was very encouraging.
78:41And this is a guy that's incredibly cheap everywhere.
78:45People are letting him go. So there's a guy I like as a buy low at running back.
78:51I also think that Nicholas Singleton, he's not really a buy low because no one's really moved him down.
78:59This is all as expected that he would start the year in active week one.
79:04This is like this is every again. This is not a crazy weird NFL season.
79:10This is a year where day three running back is inactive week one and he's active week two and he starts to
79:18get carries and then things happen and then Tony Pollard gets traded.
79:23Tony Pollard's probably going to get traded. The idea that Tony Pollard wouldn't be traded is crazy to me.
79:30It's just crazy. So he actually could get traded somewhere that has an injury and Tony Pollard could be amazing in the second half with a better team.
79:40That could happen. So he's also a buy low for that reason.
79:45Not because I think he's going to do anything on the Titans but I think you go ahead and buy Pollard and
79:53Singleton knowing that one's going to part ways again this is assuming rational front office and that's a big ask of NFL front offices to be rational.
80:03I get it. I mean just look again look at what the Chargers did this offseason.
80:09But it should happen. It probably will happen. So they're going to clear the deck for Singleton in the second half and
80:17that might mean Pollard hopefully doesn't get injured. If he doesn't get injured they're probably going to move on and then so
80:26you're betting if he stays healthy you might end up somewhere else.
80:30Longer term I think that if you're looking for next year I think the number one most coveted running back in free
80:38agency is going to be Braylon Allen. I think that Isaiah Davis is good enough that they don't need to resign Braylon
80:47Allen and that Braylon Allen you've seen enough this year already that if given an opportunity because he has a bell cow
80:55profile and skill set he could be a monster next year.
80:59And he'll still be pretty young. Abs absolute monster next year.
81:03So yeah he's young. I love that for him.
81:07Yeah the problem I mean Carnal Tate is a buy low especially in I think that there's leagues where he's being dropped in seasonal and redraft leagues.
81:17I know you said dynasty but I'm absolutely betting on the talent there and them figuring it out with Carnal Tate.
81:25I'm going to bet on that. I think there's something there with the Titans.
81:30I think the Titans it's it's still early in Cameron Ward's career.
81:34There's still plenty of time for him to get this thing figured out.
81:39And in terms of buy high at wide receiver.
81:43You're good just go out go ahead and shoot try to try to you know how like when you're skeet shooting you
81:51have to shoot in front of the of the of the clay disc.
81:56Yeah. Right. You need to shoot in front of Parker Washington.
82:00Just try to get him just buy high on Parker Washington.
82:04Nice little buy window on Zay Flowers by the way.
82:08Love that. I also think that eventually I get that Deshaun Watson has exceeded expectations.
82:14The bar was very very very low. Eventually they are going to turn to Shader Sanders.
82:20I think that Shader Sanders could be a fun a fun quarterback for the Browns.
82:25And we talked about that they're going to play the Saints and there's going to be some fun games.
82:32And we've already seen the mothballing of Jerry Judy.
82:36I think that the the the those that just doing the target share math it seemed hard to believe that Jerry Judy
82:44wouldn't at least get a 15% target share this year but we now have him projected for like an 11% target share
82:52like he's done like Jerry Judy's completely dust and all the attention is on Denzel Boston think a great by low again
83:00it's not really a by low in dynasty because most savvy dynasty leaguers aren't punting rookie receivers after two weeks.
83:08So more maybe of a seasonal redraft by low would be Casey enception.
83:13But even in dynasty try to get him right try to get him.
83:18We're also very fortunate right now. I think this you could consider this a by low in all formats would be Michael Wilson.
83:26That it's not just going to be it's not just going to be the Trey McBride show all year.
83:33There's going to be teams that match up with Trey McBride and try to shut down Trey McBride and there will be
83:42Michael Wilson's going to have some big boom weeks like he did in the second half last year because you might say
83:50oh the splits with and without Harrison. Harrison's gone.
83:53You can now calculate Michael Wilson's projection as if Harrison's not there because he's really not even there.
84:00So you might as well go get Michael Wilson everywhere you can while you have time.
84:06And again I know this is the checkers move.
84:10This is the basic move but I was very concerned about Alec Pierce this offseason.
84:15We had him probably two rounds below consensus. I think you probably saw that when you looked at the wide receiver rankings
84:23like where the hell they have Pierce? I bet you thought that.
84:28Just like where the hell they have Jordan Tyson?
84:31Where the hell they have Marvin Harrison? I can't even find these guys.
84:36Right? So Josh Downs is like an obvious play this week.
84:40Again when I listen to other shows and podcasts they start sit decisions.
84:45They're hemming and hawing maybe Josh Downs but with caveats.
84:49No caveats. People come on fantasy analysts have some conviction.
84:53It's Josh Downs season. This is what we've been waiting for.
84:57Josh Downs and his skill set matching up perfectly with the Daniel Jones offense.
85:02And all we've seen this year is them scripting plays for him at the beginning of week one.
85:09So we know the coaches want to get in the ball.
85:13Then he gives us like the productive non-touchdown performance in week two which we wanted.
85:19Now we don't have Alec Pierce. And again shame on you for drafting players that are injured in the offseason.
85:26More often than not it's going to end in failure.
85:30It's not it doesn't end well. So many people are trying to draft even like a Malik neighbors.
85:37I know Malik neighbors is going to finally have weeks and I know we get Jackson Dart get injured and it's not his fault.
85:46But even before Jackson Dart went down he was not himself.
85:50So why do it? Why put yourself in that position?
85:54You're going to have plenty of injuries to deal with during the season.
85:58Why start before the season even starts? Why put yourself behind before the season even starts with guys like Alec Pierce and
86:07guys like Malik neighbors and guys like Jeremiah Love?
86:10It's just this is not complicated. Again this isn't even overly sophisticated.
86:15These are just basic principles you can live by and an easy one plus one equals two move is to go get
86:23Josh Downs before he scores a touchdown. There you go.
86:27All right. So how about a bold prediction for 2026 Matt?
86:31You got one of those scores? I saw this on the show sheet and I said to myself I'm going to I'm going to get one.
86:41I'm going to think of one and I'm not I'm not going to like I'm not going to try to get one.
86:49I think that. Oh man. You want you want me to give you one?
86:54You you start. Well here's here's what we're going to do.
86:58All right. Here's what we're going to do to me.
87:02It's apparent that we'll go back to the Chargers.
87:05OK. It's apparent to me that the way that they get out of this hellscape that they found themselves in like losing
87:14to the Cardinals losing to the Cardinals who then get blown out the following week which is the worst scenario and then
87:22starting going to anyone that watches the games anyone that knows anything about football take all the information.
87:29I want to have a hot I want to have a hot take and I want to have a bold prediction that
87:37actually aligns with what we've talked about already. Lad McConkie is necessary if you want to get out of this right.
87:45If you want to win the war against the Dark Lord you need Gollum.
87:50I know he's not that exciting and he's annoying a little bit.
87:55Lad McConkie is not that exciting. He's a little bit annoying but they need him man.
88:01They need him and I think that they're going to have to look in the mirror and realize that he needs to
88:09be out there for every snap every play and the way out of this mess is via Lad McConkie.
88:16Lad McConkie is a top five wide receiver this year.
88:20They are going to come to Jesus and realize we're going to run this entire thing through Lad McConkie.
88:27Certainly it's we're going to see we're going to see some weeks from from Trey Harris.
88:33That's going to be great and certainly you want as much Gadsden as you can off the waiver wire this week please
88:41by all means but I don't want to distract from the number the crux of what will save this offense which is
88:49this becoming a Lad McConkie centric offense. If they do that they get out of this and Lad McConkie is a top
88:58five dynasty asset and he's a top five wide receiver in fantasy football this year.
89:03Boom. There it is. And I got to say Matt I have never heard Lad McConkie compared to Gollum before.
89:11So that's an original. I like it. I like it.
89:15All right. So let's we'll get you out of here Matt.
89:19Thank you for joining the show today. Really appreciate it.
89:22Anything you want to plug here before you get out?
89:26I do. I'm wearing a fantasy spin hat and the fantasy spin is every again I talked about tuning into Sirius XM.
89:34I'm on Roto Wire at 130 and I'm on with Howard at 630.
89:39Howard Bender and the fantasy alarm guys on Thursdays.
89:43So if you have Sirius XM and you're in the car at either 130 in the afternoon Eastern time or 630 Eastern
89:51I go on with them and we spin a lineup and it it is one of the most it's some of the
89:59most fun I've had in my life in fantasy not because I'm begging you to go get the fantasy spin app tune
90:07into the shows if you have Sirius and just with Andrew and Howard and with it with the Roto Wire guys we have such a good time.
90:18It's really and it goes to a larger theme of 2026 for me personally and I think you alluded to this earlier
90:26that I've just been having so much fun with fantasy this year.
90:30It's been amazing. It's been amazing working with you and playing fantasy with you and talking fantasy with you and everyone at
90:39Player Profiler and so it's all part of that it's all part of that story and so yeah that's it.
90:46Awesome. Awesome. All right. Well thanks again for coming on and as always I love feedback on the show so for those
