Alec Pierce

NegativeInjury56:42

Matt Harmon identifies Alec Pierce as a health question for the Colts, noting he was recently taken off the field during training camp. Pierce is one of several Colts receivers dealing with injury concerns that could impact the team's ability to replicate last year's historic offensive efficiency.

Insight page

Camden Brown

PositiveBreakout22:00

Camden Brown, an undrafted free agent wide receiver from Louisiana (formerly listed as Mississippi), is making acrobatic catches day after day at Cowboys training camp and working his way into a role similar to Ryan Flanoy's development path; he is 6'2", 204 lbs, 22 years old, and flashing consistently at camp with plays visible on Cowboys reporters' Twitter videos.

Insight page

CeeDee Lamb

PositiveProjection24:00

CeeDee Lamb is ranked in the same tier as George Pickens from a fantasy standpoint, both going very high in drafts as the highest one-two receiver pairing across the industry; Harmon likes Lamb as a late first-round pick and believes Pickens outscoringLamb is within the range of outcomes; Lamb has the versatility to move around the formation more than Pickens, though he remains a high-end alpha receiver with strong personality fit alongside Pickens.

Insight page

Chase Brown

PositiveProjection40:48

Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher told Matt Harmon at Bengals camp that Chase Brown is going to be a household name. The Bengals were high on Brown last year and remain high on him now. Brown is currently being drafted at the 16th overall pick in ADP, part of a Bengals offense with the lowest aggregate ADP across their top three fantasy assets (Jamar Chase 4th, Brown 16th, Tee Higgins 33rd).

Insight page

Christian Watson

NegativeValue31:30

Christian Watson is the first Packers pass catcher off the board at wide receiver 30 overall after receiving significant money in the offseason, though some of that contract may be structured as funny money; he remains part of the Packers' receiving room alongside Matthew Golden, Jaden Reed, and Tucker Craft.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

PositiveRole36:00

Colston Loveland was drafted in the first round by Chicago under offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who has a tight-end-forward coaching philosophy throughout his career (tight ends coach under Sean Payton, Ben Johnson, and in Chicago). Loveland benefits from this scheme fit and the fact that defenses don't yet know what to do with him as a young talent, similar to how Loveland came in last year with talent but defensive unfamiliarity.

Insight page

Cooper Kupp

NegativeRole62:49

Matt Harmon notes that Cooper Kupp has transitioned into a coach-on-the-field and useful blocker role for the Rams, and people should not draft him. While Kupp is still useful for football purposes (12.6 yards per reception, 593 yards last year), he only had two touchdowns and limited targets/opportunities. He's there to block and set things up for Jackson Smith-Njigba, making him a better real-life player than fantasy asset.

Insight page

Daniel Jones

NegativeInjury54:43

Matt Harmon expresses concern about Daniel Jones' Achilles tear recovery despite his miraculous return for Week 1. When Harmon was at training camp early, Jones was not 100% healthy. Historically, players returning from Achilles tears in their first year are not fully recovered, with second-year returns typically showing full capability. Harmon worries Jones may have suffered the Achilles tear due to compensating for a prior leg fracture, and if the Colts push him at 80%, it could impact his performance and mobility.

Insight page

Denzel Boston

PositiveBreakout49:00

Denzel Boston was drafted by the Browns as part of their long-term rebuild plan targeting 2027 competitiveness. Boston is 6'4", 215 pounds, a big X receiver who complements Casey Concepcion nicely. The Browns believe Boston and Concepcion will be the receivers that allow them to be competitive. Boston was lighting it up early in training camp and has the potential to get off to a quick start, assuming the offense is functional. As a big receiver, Boston can separate well for his size.

Insight page

Deshaun Watson

NegativeDepth Chart52:36

Matt Harmon notes that Deshaun Watson's first two games will heavily influence whether Shedeur Sanders takes over at quarterback. The situation is complicated by gray-area scenarios: the offense could look good but the team loses, look dysfunctional while winning, or Watson could struggle post-snap despite pre-snap competence. Harmon expects Watson to start fewer games than Sanders this season.

Insight page

DeVonta Smith

PositiveProjection12:00

Jory Epstein notes that Devonta Smith will likely remain very good regardless of the Eagles' offensive changes, though the debate is whether he will be elite or very good. She is not concerned about the depth or versatility of the Eagles' receiver room, suggesting Smith's production is more dependent on the running game and offensive line success than on the new system.

Insight page

DK Metcalf

PositiveRole44:03

DK Metcalf told Matt Harmon he felt like he was walking on eggshells last year as a new Steeler, not because Aaron Rodgers made him feel that way but because he wasn't comfortable with the team. This year he feels much more comfortable. At the first training camp practice last year, Rodgers' first throw went to Metcalf and was picked off; this year a week into camp, Rodgers is targeting Metcalf frequently with better completions. Harmon expects the connection to improve due to better dialogue, experience, and Metcalf knowing his role in the offense, though he notes some of Metcalf's career limitations won't disappear.

Insight page

Durham Smythe

PositiveRole37:50

Durham Smythe has been impressed with Lamar Jackson's peripheral vision and how he's seeing rollouts in the Ravens' new offense under Declan Doyle. Smythe has had moments at camp with timing issues related to Jackson's left-foot-forward transition, but the connection appears to be developing well.

Insight page

Elijah Arroyo

PositiveBreakout62:37

Matt Harmon identifies Elijah Arroyo as an interesting ascending player in year two for the Seahawks offense, suggesting there is a lot to be excited about in the Seahawks' offensive ecosystem.

Insight page

George Pickens

PositiveRole21:30

George Pickens showed better chemistry with Dak Prescott than CeeDee Lamb during Cowboys training camp, appearing slightly ahead of Lamb from a talent and chemistry standpoint; the Cowboys' infrastructure under Brian Schottenheimer and Dak Prescott supports Pickens' personality and on-field development, giving them a competitive advantage over teams hesitant to acquire him; Pickens had the lowest slot percentage of any receiver with 200+ routes last year (essentially zero slot snaps in recent seasons), making him a classic X receiver who doesn't need positional movement to remain productive.

Insight page
PositiveValue47:27

In a trade discussion, Matt Harmon prefers George Pickens over a package of Devontae Adams and Corlin Sutton. Harmon favors one great player over two good-to-okay fantasy assets, especially in preseason when roster construction is uncertain. Pickens is the player Harmon wants on the Pickens side of the trade.

Insight page

Ja'Marr Chase

NegativeProjection41:00

Jamar Chase is the 4th overall pick in ADP for the Bengals. At training camp, Chase expressed frustration that the improved defense (led by Dexter Lawrence) was making it harder for receivers to get quality work, with DBs playing more confidently. Chase should benefit from better work in training camp and preseason due to the improved defense, though the Bengals' ideal scenario is a more conservative offense that doesn't rely on Joe Burrow playing hero ball.

Insight page

Jadarian Price

NegativeRole61:40

Matt Harmon notes that Jadarian Price was not fully healthy when he visited the Seahawks in training camp, so it's unclear how quickly he can get caught up. Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Flory likes two running back looks, but Harmon is uncertain whether this is because neither Price nor Zach Charbonnet is fully ready to carry the load or because the team genuinely believes in the two-back approach for defensive purposes.

Insight page

Jake Ferguson

NegativeRole22:00

Jake Ferguson is mentioned as part of the Cowboys' receiving weapons alongside CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Javante Williams, and Ryan Flanoy, though no specific fantasy analysis or projection is provided.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

PositiveProjection10:00

Jory Epstein reports that Jalen Hurts is setting a tone in the Eagles' new offense by being willing to throw interceptions in practice to test the defense and learn the new system. Jordan Milata noted that Hurts' willingness to make mistakes and bounce back is key to the Eagles' success this year. Matt Harmon upgraded Hurts in his quarterback rankings after the training camp visit, moving him from bottom-tier QB2 to higher tier, buying into the new offense's potential.

Insight page
PositiveProjection16:57

Matt Harmon is increasingly bullish on Hurts as a higher-tier quarterback option in 2025, citing improved execution of new offensive concepts under Sean Mannion; Hurts now shows no fear in making mistakes while learning the system, a shift from last year's hesitancy; the Eagles' more married run-pass formations and unpredictable blocking schemes should create defensive indecision that benefits both Hurts' decision-making and Saquon Barkley's rushing lanes.

Insight page

Javonte Williams

NegativeProjection22:00

Javante Williams is coming off a 1,200-yard season and remains part of the Cowboys' offensive weapons, though the focus is on maximizing the year with George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

PositiveProjection5:05

Jory Epstein reports that Jaden Daniels can have a bounce-back year if he stays healthy; his talent did not fall off last year, but rather the supporting cast and his health were the problems. The new Commanders offense under David Blau will feature more under-center and play-action concepts, which should complement his skill set with Terry McLaurin and Stephon Diggs.

Insight page

Jayden Reed

NegativeValue32:00

Jaden Reed is going off the board at 116th overall in Yahoo drafts, with a significant drop-off from Christian Watson (68th) and Tucker Craft (60th); he remains in the Packers' receiving room and is kept on the move in the offense.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeInjury42:00

Matt Harmon does not think Joe Burrow's health and the Bengals' defense combination will look like it did last year, suggesting this would be an upset from a fantasy standpoint. Burrow was injured all year last year, limiting his rushing. The Bengals are shifting to more under-center play to reduce pressure on the offensive line and quarterback, moving away from spread formations that increase blitz vulnerability. Harmon factors in uncertainty around whether Burrow will play all 17 games and whether the defense will remain bad.

Insight page

Jordan Love

PositiveProjection27:45

Jordan Love is at a stage in his career where he has more control and input into the Packers' offense under Matt LaFleur, similar to how Aaron Rodgers operated; Love is ready to support a more pass-heavy offense and is actively involved in progressions that lead him to Matthew Golden based on separation; Love told Harmon he's staying true to his progressions and they keep leading him to Golden; Love is positioned to handle increased offensive responsibility this year.

Insight page

Josh Downs

PositiveRole56:21

Matt Harmon is excited about Josh Downs heading into the season from a reception perception standpoint and believes he is in a really nice position to take a step forward without Michael Pittman. The Colts staff felt confident enough in Downs' development to move on from Pittman, and while Keenan Allen provides veteran depth, Downs is positioned as the primary beneficiary of Pittman's departure.

Insight page

Josh Jacobs

NegativeInjury29:48

Josh Jacobs has been charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property according to Wisconsin court records, creating a major red flag for his availability; beyond this legal issue, Jacobs faces multiple fantasy red flags including a declining Packers offensive line (worse on paper than the previous two seasons), an aging running back coming off a down season, and a team that may shift toward a more pass-heavy approach; the Packers' defense is also expected to be weaker without Micah Parsons at the start of the year, reducing game script support for the run game.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

NegativeRole34:12

Lamar Jackson is transitioning from a right-foot-forward quarterback stance to a left-foot-forward stance to match the timing of Declan Doyle's offense (similar to Ben Johnson's system). This is a significant muscle-memory adjustment that may take time to feel natural, though the Ravens are encouraged by his transition. Jackson was injured all year last year, so his health returning is a positive. The Ravens' schedule starts with Indy, Saints, Cowboys, Titans, at Falcons in the first five weeks (not bad), with a home game against the Saints in week two.

Insight page

Luke McCaffrey

NegativeRole4:00

Jory Epstein mentions Luke McCaffrey as part of the Commanders' receiver group, which they view as the deepest position on the team. He is positioned as a complementary piece alongside Terry McLaurin and Stephon Diggs in the new offense.

Insight page

Makai Lemon

PositiveRole12:00

Jory Epstein mentions Makai Lemon as a first-round pick in the Eagles' receiver room, highlighting him as a really interesting player. Matt Harmon notes that Lemon is part of the Eagles' receiver depth and is a first-round draft pick, suggesting confidence in his role.

Insight page

MarShawn Lloyd

NegativeProjection31:00

Marshawn Lloyd is a running back the Packers are high on, though his real regular season performance remains to be seen; he may need to contribute to the run game as the Packers shift toward a more pass-heavy offense.

Insight page

Matthew Golden

PositiveBreakout27:45

Matthew Golden is the key player to watch in Green Bay's offense after Romeo Dobbs and Don Tavion Wicks departed, with 131 combined targets from those two receivers now available for distribution; Jordan Love was targeting Golden heavily early in training camp not because of his name but because of his versatility and separation ability; Golden's playoff touchdown against the Bears gave him the confidence boost needed to take off in year two; his 8.2 yards per target in the regular season (361 yards, no TDs) was nearly identical to Romeo Dobbs' 8.5 yards per target, suggesting similar efficiency; Golden is now playing the X receiver role, which better fits his straight-line vertical breaking route tree compared to last year's 38% slot usage; Harmon has a feature coming out on Golden and believes he should be drafted higher than his current ADP of 126 overall.

Insight page
PositiveValue34:03

Matt Harmon has Matthew Golden 12 spots ahead of his current ADP. Golden posted 361 yards and no regular-season touchdowns but added one in the playoffs; his 8.2 yards per target closely mirrors Romeo Dobbs' 8.5 yards per target despite Dobbs' 724 yards and six touchdowns. If Golden receives more targets, Harmon projects he could reach 700-plus or 800-plus yards based on the similar efficiency metrics, making him an easy click at current draft cost.

Insight page

Michael Pittman

PositiveProjection44:30

Michael Pittman is now on the Steelers and will take attention away from DK Metcalf. Harmon believes Pittman will lead the team in catches for sure and maybe receiving yards this time. Pittman is the safety valve in Aaron Rodgers' offense, getting the quick-access throws (slants and flats) that Rodgers prefers when under pressure. Pittman will benefit from Rodgers' tendency to get the ball out quickly rather than waiting for deep routes.

Insight page

Quinshon Judkins

NegativeRole50:50

Quinchon Judkins is part of the Browns' offensive room and the team wants to get him more involved in the passing game. However, he is likely to be an early-down banger for a bad team. The Browns' defense, while still very good with Myles Garrett and Jared Burris, might not be quite where it was last year, which could affect game scripts and Judkins' opportunities. This limits his fantasy upside as the team may not stay in close games.

Insight page
NegativeRole50:58

Matt Harmon notes Judkins is likely an early-down back for a Browns team that may struggle with offensive consistency; the defense, while still good with Jared Burris, may not keep games as close as last year, reducing passing-game opportunities Judkins might otherwise see. Harmon thinks the team wants to get him more involved in the passing game, but game script and team performance could limit that upside.

Insight page

Rashid Shaheed

PositiveBreakout62:37

Matt Harmon highlights Rashid Shaheed as an ascending player for the Seahawks with a full offseason under the new system. Shaheed is one of several interesting players Harmon is excited about in the Seahawks offense alongside Jadarian Price and Elijah Arroyo.

Insight page

Sam Darnold

PositiveRole62:09

Matt Harmon believes Sam Darnold is a really good fit in the Seahawks' Shanahan-McVay system under new offensive coordinator Brian Flory. Darnold doesn't want to get frazzled post-snap and prefers clear pre-snap reads and assignments, which is exactly what this system provides. Harmon notes that Darnold can execute these assignments well when he's not asked to do too much outside his comfort zone, making him a good fit for this offense.

Insight page

Saquon Barkley

PositiveProjection11:00

Jory Epstein identifies Saquon Barkley as the key to the Eagles' offensive success under the new Sean Mannion system. The more aggressive offensive line play and lane-clearing approach should set up Barkley for success. If Barkley doesn't get going, the pass game will likely struggle because defenses will be able to get on receivers. Matt Harmon agrees that Barkley's success is everything for the Eagles' offense, noting he is a first-round fantasy pick.

Insight page
PositiveRole18:18

Saquon Barkley should benefit from the Eagles' new offensive approach under Sean Mannion, where formations and blocking schemes are now married between run and pass concepts; this unpredictability should create more defensive indecision and allow Barkley to hit rushing lanes more effectively.

Insight page

Shedeur Sanders

NegativeDepth Chart51:55

Matt Harmon expects Shedeur Sanders to start multiple games for the Browns this season, but the timing is uncertain. While many predict a Week 3 start, Harmon believes Deshaun Watson's first two games will heavily influence when Sanders takes over. The Browns want to evaluate Sanders by season's end to inform 2027 draft planning, so Harmon expects Sanders to start more games than Watson overall, though the exact week remains unclear.

Insight page

Tee Higgins

NegativeProjection41:15

Tee Higgins is the 33rd overall pick in ADP for the Bengals. The Bengals' top three fantasy assets (Jamar Chase 4th, Chase Brown 16th, Higgins 33rd) have the lowest aggregate ADP across the league, suggesting the market is pricing in high production. However, the Bengals' ideal scenario is a more conservative offense that doesn't rely on Joe Burrow playing hero ball, which could limit upside.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

PositiveRole4:00

Jory Epstein reports that the Commanders view their receiver group as the deepest position on the team, with Terry McLaurin going deep and Stephon Diggs moving the chains. McLaurin and Diggs are described as complementary pieces in the new offense with more under-center and play-action concepts.

Insight page

Treylon Burks

NegativeRole6:00

Matt Harmon mentions uncertainty about Traylon Burks' role in the Commanders' offense, questioning whether he might be a starter in two-receiver sets. The exact nature of his role remains unclear from training camp observations.

Insight page

Tucker Kraft

PositiveInjury32:00

Tucker Craft received positive injury news and is now going off the board 60th overall in Yahoo drafts over the last seven days, ahead of Christian Watson at 68th overall.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

PositiveProjection53:50

Matt Harmon calls Tyler Warren "the most exciting story" the Colts have and says he really likes him from a fantasy standpoint. Harmon notes Warren screws up his draft plans because he wants to take running backs and receivers in the 40-50 range but keeps getting drawn to Warren. While defenses now know what Warren is and may adjust, Shane Steichen really believes in Warren's ability to challenge defenses and create formation flexibility, so Harmon still expects significant opportunities.

Insight page

Zach Charbonnet

NegativeInjury61:48

Matt Harmon raises health questions about Zach Charbonnet's status for the Seahawks. Harmon is trying to determine whether the Seahawks' preference for two running back looks is driven by neither back being fully healthy or by genuine strategic preference for the formation.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

NegativeRole40:00

Zay Flowers is part of the Ravens' receiver room, which has shown improvement in how the team deploys receivers under new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. The team is getting better at utilizing their receiver group.

0:00Big Show for you here today, Jory Epstein, a serious NFL reporter, joins me to discuss everything that she learned from her

0:16What does the Vikings offense look like under Kyler Murray?
0:19How are the Chargers integrating all their different talent in with Mike McDaniel?
0:22We also do a deep dive on some teams that changed over offensive coordinators.
0:26She's got some great stuff on the Eagles offense.
0:28You guys are going to want to hear that.
0:30Plus the Ravens as well. I mean, all that and more.
0:33So much more coming up on today's show. Let's get into it.
0:36What's going on, everyone? I'm Matt Harmon. Welcome to the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast presented by Toyota, the official automotive partner of the NFL.
0:42All season long, Toyota is celebrating the passion, traditions, and unforgettable moments that make football America's obsession.
0:46From fantasy football to every kickoff rivalry and Sunday ritual.
0:49Oh boy. You gotta love to see it. And it is a hell of a day to talk ball because I am
0:55not in my little box at home in the home office.
0:57I'm out and about. I'm in the world. I'm in the big city, New York.
1:01And I'm with one of my best friends. Best.
1:04Wow. Jory Epstein. Jory, what's going on? How you doing?
1:06Matt, great to be here. Great to be elevated to one of your best friends, not just your friends.
1:11I'm excited to be here. We've got a great show in store, a great studio.
1:15Let's do this. The studio is great. It's a great time to talk ball because training camps are kind of winding down, you know?
1:21The preseason is winding down and the regular season is frighteningly close.
1:24And because of that, you, Jory, who are a serious individual, are your NFL reporter, senior NFL reporter?
1:29Whatever you call me to answer to it. Okay, great.
1:31Well, you are a serious real deal reporter, whereas I am just a fantasy knucklehead, you know, talking into my podcast, Mike,
1:37about, well, this guy might play this many snaps, this, that, and the other.
1:40You're actually on the ground talking to the people and the players and the coaches and all of the things.
1:45You've been to 16 training camps, Jory, 16 in the last month.
1:49So I'm going to ask you the most pressing fantasy questions we have for all of them, and you're going to get them all correct.
1:55That is absolutely what's going to happen. How else could this go?
1:58How else could this go? And then at the end of the show, we're going to answer your questions that you felt
2:04like you did not get answered from training camp in our Toyota fantasy hotline.
2:07However, before we get to any of that, yes, I must remind you all that it is a very exciting time here because it's coming up.
2:14We'll be right back. Live edition of the Yahoo fantasy forecast.
2:17You're getting ready for your draft. This is the place to be.
2:20Okay. Bring your friends, bring your enemies. I don't care.
2:22Bring your best friends. I can't bring my best friend, Jory, unfortunately, because you're a real reporter and you have real work to do.
2:29You're serious, real reporter. You have work to do, but I'm going to be there and I'm going to see you all
2:34there in Amherst, New York on Saturday, August 29th at 3 p.m.
2:37So, Jory, 16 training camps, your training camp tour.
2:40Number one, how do you feel spiritually and emotionally after doing all of that?
2:43I think unwell is the only correct answer, but you know what?
2:46It is exciting. I do love this and I kind of get competitive with myself.
2:50How many teams can I get to each year?
2:52So, last year I got to 17 between OTAs and training camp.
2:55This year when you add in the three from OTAs, I'm at 19.
2:59And it's helpful because it's not just about the stories I'm writing now.
3:02It's me with general managers, coaches, and players to try and understand, hey, in week five when all of a sudden this
3:08guy has a breakout season, what should I know?
3:10In week seven when unfortunately someone gets hurt, what do I need to know about the depth around them?
3:15In week two when the offense isn't quite there, that new coordinator, what's he actually going for?
3:19A very logistically ambitious trip. It really is. So, okay, the 16 teams that you've been to for training camp, and what
3:25a graphic, by the way, from the producers. I mean, producer Colin, it was definitely Jason Jung that did it, and Colin's going to take credit for it.
3:32But producer Colin, Jason Jung, JB, and the boys just absolutely crushing it with this camp graphic here.
3:37Vikings, Bears, Colts, Bengals, Packers, Browns, Cowboys, Chargers, Rams, Seahawks, 49ers, Broncos, Ravens, Commanders, Eagles, Steelers.
3:41We are going to get at least a note on all of these teams, but let's start.
3:45I'm going to go a little division by division here.
3:48Let's start in the NFC East, and we'll start with Washington first, Jory.
3:51Everyone has been talking about the red flags with the commanders' offensive line.
3:54I feel like we got a little doom and gloom on yesterday's show at the very end with Nate.
3:59I mean, we see our tweet here from Nikki Javala.
4:02This is the worst she's ever seen the commanders' offensive line in years.
4:05Inoperable offensive line is what Nikki is saying. Again, Nate had them as one of his units that he's most concerned with.
4:11So with that as a backdrop, what did you see?
4:13What did you hear in Washington? Yeah, the offensive line is a problem.
4:17You don't want to lose a guy like Laramie Tunsil.
4:19There's a reason they invested in a guy like him.
4:22They did sign DJ Humphries for some part of the rotation this week.
4:25But I think when I look at it, they tell me their receiver group is the deepest on the team.
4:30That's what they believe. The deepest position on the team.
4:33Really? Yeah, I don't know if that's good or bad.
4:35You can decide whether that just says something more about the other positions of the receivers.
4:39Wait, so real quick, when were you there? This week.
4:42Oh, this week. So this is obviously post-Diggs signing.
4:44Yeah, this is post-Diggs signing. I was there on Tuesday.
4:47It kind of all runs together. And they really felt that their receiver group is their deepest on the team.
4:52And I think they feel like they have a different group of complements.
4:55When you have Terry McLaurin going deep, you have Stephon Diggs kind of moving the chains.
4:59They got Luke McCaffrey. I think that they feel like those guys are going to complement each other nicely, particularly in this new offense.
5:05More under center. More play action. My question is, okay, if Jaden Daniels can stay healthy, I think that he can have a bounce back year.
5:12I don't think his talent fell off last year.
5:14I think the guys around him. I think the supporting cast.
5:17And I think his health were the problems. But to have all this under center and play action, you kind of need
5:23a line that can allow you to be under center and running play action.
5:26And so that is what I worry about. And I don't know that we're going to see that.
5:31I also think there's an element of a lot of camps I visit.
5:34And I would say the commanders are not exactly this.
5:37But part of it is, well, maybe your defense is ahead of your offense at some point.
5:41Your offense ahead of your defense. So sometimes what you're seeing, yes, you're going to have to play all the teams during the season.
5:47But I do think you can get a little bit skewed in what you've got.
5:51So I don't know. This offensive line does concern me.
5:54And I think the other pieces are there. The question is, if you can't get the protection, what can you do with them?
6:00And the other thing, and I'm curious is how the vibe of the coaching staff felt.
6:04Because the other part of this that I think everything you mentioned there about them being more under center.
6:09And look, Terry McLaurin and Stephon Diggs are probably in the reception perception Hall of Fame.
6:13Certainly Diggs. Terry McLaurin is definitely in the Hall of Very Good.
6:16I love these guys. I was ahead of consensus on these guys before they really had their big season.
6:21And I like their rookie, Antonio Williams. I know he's been impressive lately in camp, maybe kind of slow burn there.
6:26But I would say the rest of the room I maybe am squinting at a little bit.
6:31I don't know if they talked to you about the Traylon Burks experience and how they feel about that, that he's like
6:36maybe a starter for them in two receiver sets.
6:38I don't know. Anyways, but the point of all that is to say I want to be optimistic about this offense.
6:44But I do feel like the David Blau of it all is one of those things where in March, that seems really cool.
6:50They're like, oh, this guy is former backup quarterback.
6:52You know, it comes from like playing under Ben Johnson, more under center play action, all that.
6:56But then you get into camp and it's a big transition for a coach who doesn't have a lot of experience.
7:02Yeah. So two things I'll say is, first of all, he's been in the building for a few years.
7:07And I do think that makes a difference. The teams like Davis Webb at the Denver Broncos and here, it's very different
7:12than when I go to the Eagles and see Sean Mannion, who could have a lot of success, but he's having to
7:18learn the personnel and the personalities at the same time.
7:20When Dan Quinn was hired for the commanders, he intentionally had this staff where he's like, I want to make sure if
7:26we lose guys, he thought it would be Cliff Kingsbury to a head coaching job, not to whatever the assistant role he's
7:32in on the Los Angeles Rams is. But he wanted to make sure that he didn't have to put completely new faces
7:37in there to understand the skill sets. So David does have some familiarity.
7:41It's still going to be his first time calling plays.
7:43And that's a really big shift. And like you said, he is young.
7:47He's not that far removed from playing. One thing I think we should keep an eye out for is, so I was
7:52talking to David Blau this week when I was there and I reminded him, or I asked him about his magic love where he's really into card tricks.
7:59At card tricks, he likes the sleight of hand element of it.
8:02And I asked him how that translates to him as a play caller.
8:06And he was like, look to me, trick plays are normal plays.
8:09So he does think that you got to kind of energize your guys and keep people off balance, both because sometimes they'll
8:14work and because the threat of a trick play is something he wants for defenses.
8:18So I think we're going to see some creativity.
8:21Obviously, we'll have to see if it works. But I do think that when I asked Jaden Daniels that he was like, yeah, I would agree.
8:27That's how he feels about it. So I'm excited to see is it week one?
8:31Is it week two? Is it week three? Maybe some are in the playbook, but they don't make it to the game.
8:37Keep an eye out for that. Interesting. OK, I'm definitely going to be watching that, especially because if it doesn't go well
8:42for the commanders, I'm maybe thinking some like Joe Bluth magic memes.
8:45I'm thinking Michael Scott magic memes. There's a lot of material to work there.
8:49You're ready to go. If it doesn't work out for the commanders.
8:52But like I said, I do want to be open minded because this is a really interesting and talented team.
8:57We're looking at the depth chart right now. The Diggs-McLauren combo is interesting.
9:01Chico Conquo was a really cool pickup, I think, for them.
9:03And the backfield, Jory, from a fantasy standpoint, is one of those that these are like the latest two stars.
9:08Whoever the starter is, Ja'Kory Grosky-Meritt or Rashad White.
9:11And I'm curious if you have any insight there.
9:13You heard anything on that. They're one of the latest starting running backs going in fantasy right now.
9:18So if you get this one right, like that could be a potential big area of profit.
9:22It just again, the line is the thing that's most concerning right now.
9:25Right. And I think I just could have a lot of trouble trusting a running game when the line's not there.
9:31It doesn't really matter who's doing it. Especially a pass protection back like Rashad White.
9:35He needs to be available back there. And I think that kind of might dampen the Ja'Kory Grosky-Meritt sort of hype in from a fantasy standpoint.
9:41But you mentioned the Eagles. I want to go there next.
9:44Sticking in the NFC East. You're in Philadelphia. New system.
9:47New offensive coordinator. A lot of change going on in Philly right now.
9:50What'd you see there? Yeah, it was funny. When I met with left tackle Jordan Milata yesterday, I didn't even bring up
9:56Jalen Hurts' interceptions because he didn't really throw money when I was there.
9:59But I guess he'd had a couple, including a pick-six the night before at the scrimmage.
10:03And then there was the one that the Eagles famously tweeted out, Quinnen Williams intercepting Jalen Hurts.
10:07And I think because the angle of the camera was much more on Jalen Hurts than on the defense, everyone's like, are you subtweeting your quarterback?
10:14What's going on? As if no one can have a defensive highlight in training camp.
10:18Thank you. Thank you. Like Quinion Mitchell plays for the team too.
10:21Right, right, right. It wasn't like another team's cornerback.
10:23That's NBA brain working now in Dora. Yeah, I have a lot of thoughts about that.
10:27But what I thought was funny is that I just asked how Jalen was doing.
10:31And I asked Jordan Milata for an example of a play that reflects with this offense.
10:35Jordan kind of brought that up unprompted. And he said that he thinks those interceptions are actually key to them this year.
10:41Because I was there one year, I think it was last year, when Jalen Hurts hadn't thrown an interception the entire camp
10:47in 11-on-11 until the last day he threw one.
10:49And then they didn't have a great offensive year.
10:51And so you kind of go from that to being like, if you're not trying things during training camp, particularly when you're
10:57in a new offensive system, it's a problem. And Jordan said that Jalen was setting that tone that, yeah, you can make
11:02these mistakes, but I'll come back from the interception and I'll throw a touchdown later on.
11:07I think that the Eagles offense under Sean Mannion has huge boomer bust potential.
11:10I can't figure out which one it's going to be.
11:13I was actually asking them if they think they could figure out.
11:16But Jordan's like, some days we've looked terrible. He used more colorful language than that.
11:20Some days we looked great. The offensive line will be totally different in what they're doing this year.
11:24I mean, Jordan's talking about, he's like, I thought we were aggressive.
11:27Turns out we weren't. I think to me, the question is passing game.
11:31From two years, I mean, they had multiple top 10 offensive years for a lot of years.
11:35Last year, they fall to, I think it was like 19 and 24 in points and yardage.
11:39So then you look at the passing game. It wasn't really that different last year.
11:43It was the running game just falling off an absolute cliff of about 70 yards per game.
11:48So my question is, can this more aggressive style of offensive line play and the way they're going to clear the lanes
11:53actually set up Saquon Barkley to have success? And to me, that's everything.
11:56It's not about Devonta Smith. I think Devonta is always going to be very good, whether he's going to be elite or very good.
12:03Maybe you can debate that. But I'm not that concerned about the depth or the versatility of their receiver.
12:07And they've got Dontavian Wicks in there. They really are high on Hollywood Brown.
12:11They've got Makai Lemon, obviously, coming from the first round.
12:14To me, it's, are you getting Saquon going? Because if you're not, you're probably not going to have a lot going in
12:19the pass game because they're just going to be able to really get on your guys.
12:23And so that, to me, is the big question.
12:26That's a great point because Josh Norris has brought this up many times that as much as we, and I know I'm
12:31certainly guilty of this, have been obsessed about, like, what is the passing game going to look like?
12:36It's going to look so different with Jalen Hurts in a new look offense, the whole deal.
12:40You mentioned I'm fascinated by Devonta Smith without A.J.
12:43Brown. Makai Lemon, really interesting player. I'm still leaving the candle lit for Dontavian Wicks.
12:46I'm definitely a star. Or the Eagles. Oh, that's good to hear.
12:49Yeah, because I have heard the same thing. They're really high on him.
12:53They give him the one-year extension. So definitely some of my old takes need to be justified by the Dontavian Wicks late, late breakout here.
12:59But does any of it matter if they can't run the football?
13:02Probably not. And again, Saquon Barkley is a first-round pick in fantasy football drafts.
13:06Yeah, I feel like the Eagles have just continued to try and follow the Christian McCaffrey San Francisco 49ers model.
13:11It's like, first you get that running back who's obviously got running back and receiving game potential.
13:15And you say, yeah, the running back market relative to the receiver market is depressed.
13:19And so if we pay top tier for the running back market, it's still going to be way cheaper than getting a receiver.
13:25Then they say, well, you know what? Saquon in our offense was just too predictable.
13:29I talked to head coach Nick Sirianni, and he's like, defenses were throwing too much junk at us, and we didn't have anything to throw back at them.
13:36We didn't have the answers. They feel like this offense, so it's Sean Mannion coming from that Shanahan-McVay system, which is different
13:42from what they've done the last five years. A hundred percent.
13:45Is going to give them more answers to the questions.
13:47It asks more of everybody. It also helps them have more cues.
13:50It's much more time-based, as you know. I mean, I'm telling you things you know.
13:54But I think that that's going to be interesting because we talk every year about Jalen Hurts with a new play caller.
14:00He's only had the same play caller once, from season to season, one season his whole pro career, and that dates back to high school and college.
14:07He never had it. And so he's always going through these changes, but this is a different change.
14:11This is not new play caller, same concepts. This is, hey, here's what you've got to do.
14:16You've got to read with your feet all of those elements in terms of it is based off the timing.
14:21You have to throw that anticipatory throw whether or not your sugar guy is there.
14:24Yeah, it's such a fascinating football experiment, right? Because it would be disingenuous to say anything other than Hurts is going to have to adjust to this.
14:31It just is. It's very, very different. What is the level of faith that he can be someone who does adjust to it?
14:37I think everyone thinks he can be, but will he be?
14:40And I know that's kind of semantics right there.
14:42But, I mean, look, everyone's high on his work ethic, high on his ability to change.
14:47I think the fact that he's had to change offensive coordinators or at least offensive play callers every single year for basically
14:52the last decade makes it so it's not brand new to him needing to change.
14:56But the level of change is higher. And so I think he's saying I need to try these anticipatory throws even if
15:02Rick Willen is picking me off in practice because I need to know what's going to happen.
15:06I need to know is this the soft spot in the defense that I can pick on or is this too risky?
15:12So I wonder. I mean, I think it helps for them.
15:14They're playing the Washington Commanders in week one. All due respect to the Washington Commanders.
15:18Well, not only that, but they're playing the Titans in week two.
15:21Yeah, I didn't go through a full schedule. Like three?
15:24Like it's a really soft start. That's actually exactly what they want because to me there's this question of I covered the
15:30Cowboys when you almost didn't want them if you were a Cowboys fan to win the first two games because the city
15:35would get so high that it was just too high to block out the outside noise.
15:39It wasn't really about the players. It was just they got really high on them.
15:43In Philly, it's a little bit different where if you lose early in Philly, everyone's sure that Jalen's gone, Nick's gone.
15:48It'd be really uncomfortable. Both of them are high pressure cities, but the way the pressure manifests is very different.
15:54And so I think having those earlier looks so the offense can at least ideally be functional is what you need to
15:59be able to have the late success there. I really just am so fascinated by this Eagles team because I think they
16:05could be one of those right answer offenses in fantasy where, you know, obviously, again, you have to pay a first rounder for Saquon Barkley.
16:11That's that. But even Jalen Hurts is a guy that I probably started as a bottom tier two quarterback and then actually
16:17updating my rankings last night in the hotel room down the street.
16:20I flipped him up towards more of the top there because I actually kind of like a lot of what you're saying.
16:26And I buy into this as well that those throwing those interceptions in practice is him testing like the Raptor testing defenses in Jurassic Park.
16:32We're like, can I get away with it here?
16:34Like, where are the weak spots? And he's not a guy that has been a very anticipatory throw over the course of his career.
16:40I mean, like they run a lot of go routes and stop routes in the previous iteration of this offense.
16:46I can back that up with some of my receiver charting because those are the throws that Jalen has been really good
16:51on, which kind of just, hey, I'm going to let that thing fly.
16:55And my guy's going to make a play on it.
16:57That's really different with a lot of the in breakers, the outbreakers.
17:00And my Don Tavion Wicks, once again, bring this up like the former Packers, I mean, the Packers offense where he comes from.
17:06Obviously, Sean Manning comes from. They really weaponized Don Tavion Wicks last year as that kind of outbreaking route like to the
17:12field from the slot outbreakers, the whole deal. That does require some anticipation to throw that before it breaks.
17:17So it is kind of encouraging, actually. I the more I look at Hurts, the more I'm buying in on him as
17:22somebody that if I'm taking one of those higher tier quarterbacks, which I haven't really been because it's so deep this year.
17:28But if I do, Hurts is one of the guys that does tempt me.
17:31Yeah, I think there's two elements. There's first I want to read you this quote from Jordan Milota because I think it
17:37speaks to what you're saying about interceptions. When I talked to him yesterday, so that would be Wednesday because today is Thursday.
17:43It is Thursday. I get lost a lot. I've taped two shows that are going out like Labor Day.
17:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Jordan told me, everyone's talking about all the picks and stuff, but it's not about that.
17:53Is he executing what coach is trying to get him to do?
17:56And he is. And I think before, this is the most interesting part to me, he would be a little hesitant to be like that.
18:02But now there's no fear. This year, he's not afraid of making mistakes.
18:05When you're learning something new, that's how you have to be.
18:08You've got to have thick skin. So I think they're saying this.
18:11If you just say, we're all trying something new, it comes off a little cliche.
18:15If you say, last year he was more hesitant to do that, that's a totally different idea.
18:20And it's not necessarily a knock on Jalen Hurts.
18:22It might be because the offense was more hesitant.
18:24So I think you have that element. The second thing let's keep in mind is that the Eagles, going back to the
18:30idea that they felt defenses were throwing stuff at them they couldn't solve, part of that was this kind of predictability of their offense.
18:36And it wasn't just in terms of the playbook.
18:38It was in terms of their blocking schemes, their formations, all of that.
18:42And so now Jordan's telling me, like, you want their alignments, their formations are going to be much more married in terms of the run in the pass.
18:49And so hopefully that creates a little more indecision on the defense that does allow Saquon to hit that lane.
18:54That does allow Jalen to get to the time to have the read that he's looking for.
18:58That's what's so good and why you kind of want to force a guy like Hurts into a system like this because
19:04when you can marry that run in the pass game, it just makes everything really dangerous.
19:08Last thing before we move on from the Eagles here, do you get a sense of what Sean Mannion is like as a guy?
19:14You know, because a lot of times we get caught in the scheme part of it.
19:18I know I certainly do. But one of the reasons I love your work and love your reporting so much is you
19:24really focus on, like, the human side of it.
19:26And that can really be the thing that makes or breaks, like, does a big transition like this work?
19:31Yeah. But can the coordinator pull it off from a human perspective?
19:34I was really impressed with Sean Mannion. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to talk to him at camp.
19:40I did end up talking to him. And I was doing some Eagles reporting but some league-wide reporting, including for a story
19:46I have on how quarterbacks decide when to take the check down, when to go for the big play, and how the risk-reward.
19:51And the way he was taking me through the fundamentals of the footwork.
19:55And he's like, and here's step one, and here's what you do with your feet.
19:59And here's step two, and here's what it looks like with threes.
20:02And here's step three. It was so impressive. I literally asked him after, did you have a meeting where this was the topic recently?
20:08Because I feel like I'm looking at a PowerPoint that you're reading.
20:11That's how clearly you're discussing it. So I think there's the teacher element.
20:14Jordan Milata's like, he's crazy. He'll just throw all this stuff at it.
20:18But it's fun because if we figure it out, we have the answers.
20:21So crazy and just like a really un—he's super willing to throw a lot at them.
20:25But I think personally, he just seemed super personal as well and also has that, hey, he was in Los Angeles when
20:31McVay got there right around that time. I mean, he's been around a lot of coaches in a lot of different systems
20:36where he kind of feels like that younger voice, very recent former player that will connect with guys.
20:41Yeah, that is really good to hear. All of this is definitely, like I said, making me think I need to bump
20:47some eagles up my fantasy rankings here. Honestly, part of the reason I asked that, like, what is he like as a
20:52guy question is because I think our next team that we're talking about here, which is the Dallas Cowboys, again, seeking the NFC East.
20:58I think a lot of the way that they were able to pull it off last year—I mean, look, they didn't have a successful season.
21:05But offensively, they were really, really good. It's because like Brian Schottenheimer turned out to be one of those guys, you know, from a head coaching perspective.
21:12He was really suited to that role. But again, you were in Dallas.
21:15What are we thinking as we look at the Cowboys here?
21:18I'm glad you mentioned that about Brian Schottenheimer because I had someone tell me during training camp a line that I thought
21:23really stuck with me, which is that if you have the infrastructure to support guys across the personality spectrum and across the
21:29spectrum of, hey, some guys are going to be better off the field, some are not, then you have a business advantage
21:35because you have more employees who you're going to be able to fit into your system.
21:39So that sense, George Pickens—look, George Pickens is not like—he doesn't have off-field criminal stuff.
21:43I'm not suggesting that. He's not a bad guy.
21:45He's just a different dude. But we do all know that things didn't end ideally in Pittsburgh off the field.
21:50Because of Brian Schottenheimer, because of Dak Prescott, and because of the culture they've created, it seems, and we have one year
21:56of evidence so far, that they can support George Pickens.
21:58And that allows them to have an advantage because not every team wants George Pickens because they don't think the infrastructure is going to allow him to thrive.
22:05From an on-field standpoint, I mean, I think the Cowboys are like, we don't know if we're going to have George Pickens
22:11and CeeDee Lamb a year from now, so let's make sure to max out this year.
22:15And that's not the exclusion of their other weapons.
22:17Obviously, Javante Williams is coming off a 1,200-yard season.
22:20You've got Jake Ferguson. You have Ryan Flanoy. I have to get Camden Brown into this show because that guy is turning heads at Cowboys camp.
22:26And one day you will agree with me and producer Colin.
22:29Okay, can we peel the curtain back here a little bit because we actually haven't said the name Camden Brown.
22:34This is like an off. Well, that's on you that you haven't said the name yet.
22:38Okay, well, why don't you just quickly tell the people who Camden Brown is?
22:42You know, he's just this rookie guy. He's just flashing out of, what is it, Mississippi, I believe.
22:47I should really have done my homework before saying his name on the show.
22:50But every single day he's making plays. Like, you go to certain camps and there's one in Pittsburgh and one here that I'm like, who is this guy?
22:57And how does he have plays day after day after day?
23:00And if you go to the Cowboys reporters and their videos on Twitter, every single day he's got acrobatic catches.
23:05And I think he's really working his way into a role the way that Ryan Flanoy did.
23:10Yeah, Camden Brown is an American football wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys and the National Football League, parentheses, NFL.
23:15He played college football for the Auburn Tigers and the Georgia Southern Eagles.
23:18He is 6'2", 204. He's 22 years old. Undrafted free agent this year.
23:21But, yeah, listen, I will say, again, this is one of these, like, producer Colin little hype bunnies that he's texting me about all the time.
23:28And I have not brought it up. Not yet, but I'm sure he will soon.
23:32But to credit producer Colin, I hate to do this, but to credit Colin, he was telling me about Ryan Flanoy for a long time.
23:38He was like, you're going to love this guy.
23:41You're going to love this guy. And he actually really does pass the reception perception sniff test.
23:45So credit to him on that. But Camden Brown, again, undrafted free agent.
23:48You know, something to watch out for. Louisiana, that originally, not Mississippi.
23:51I always confuse those two. But CD was excited that he's a Louisiana guy.
23:55Okay, incredible. All right, so that's their, like, number five maybe receiver.
23:58But their number one and number two receiver, CD Lamb, George Pickens.
24:01I remember talking to CD in February. And, you know, I've talked to him many times over the years.
24:06I think he's, like, got the right personality, too, as a number one to, like, have an alpha, too.
24:11And, like, a really, really high-end, too, there as well.
24:13I think those guys go well together. At least that's my sense of it.
24:17But I really think, Jory, this offense is just absolutely going to cook this year.
24:21I'm really excited about both of these players. Any reason to be hesitant at all?
24:25Only because we all think it's going to cook this year.
24:28Am I, like, a little hesitant? But I think from an on-paper standpoint, absolutely.
24:31I think that what's interesting to me about what you're saying is, yes, CD Lamb told me he was, like, at Jerry, pay George Pickens.
24:38Like, let's get it done. He wants to. It's better for both of them.
24:41They're each getting more attention. I will say, last year we primarily saw CD as the 1A and George as the 1B or 1A kind of A.
24:48It is going to be interesting what the dynamic becomes.
24:51Do you think that flips at all? If that flips.
24:53You think it's possible? I think from a talent standpoint and a chemistry standpoint during this training camp, it appears George Pickens
24:59was a little bit ahead of CD Lamb. It was interesting because when I go to these camps and I'm only there
25:04for a day or two, I see what it's there and then I'll go ask, but I'll be like, hey, Dak, you and CD were really connecting today.
25:12Is that how it's looked the whole camp? And as you can see, if you look at reporting, it's not.
25:17They were not on the same page quite as much as Dak and George.
25:20Now, Dak, the day I was there, really intentionally was like, I'm going to get CD involved.
25:25I'm going to get him on a go route early in practice because once you get him on, then he kind of
25:30gets in that zone and it continues to work.
25:33So I would say I have a lot of confidence that George, again, assuming health from everyone, can really ball out.
25:38But I think that Dak knows that the offense will be at its best when all of those guys are involved.
25:43And so I still think he's going to want to split between CD and George, obviously, depending on who's on them.
25:49And I think that even offensive coordinator Clayton Adams told me, he's like, we were seeing really creative defensive looks last year
25:54because everyone's like, how do we defend both of these guys at the same time?
25:58Yeah, I get that. And I mean, look, I have these guys in the same tier from a fantasy standpoint.
26:03They're both going obviously really, really high. It's definitely the highest one and two receiver across the industry here.
26:08But I like CD as a late first round pick, but he's in that same tier as George Pickens.
26:13So if Pickens does outscore Lamb, just like straight up, I do think that is within the range of outcomes.
26:18Last thing real quickly, just from an alignment standpoint, they've talked more about moving George around this year.
26:23He quite literally can't move around less. He had the lowest slot percentage of any receiver that ran 200 or more routes last year.
26:29So do you think there's any sense that like it won't be just as straight up?
26:33Pickens is the X, Lamb is the Z because he took the fewest percentage of snaps in the slot, you know, on
26:39the other hand of his entire career. So what do we look like from a formational standpoint here?
26:43I mean, maybe. I still kind of think that he's best as an X.
26:47So he kind of just those catches he can make on the sideline are exactly what you want from him.
26:52And CD has that versatility. Maybe even move him around a little bit, but I don't see him moving around quite as much as CD.
26:58Yeah, that's my sense. And the good news is he actually doesn't have to to still be a really good player.
27:04Right. Because he is that classic, classic George Pickens X receiver.
27:07Yes. All right, we are going to take our first quick break.
27:10We come back. We're talking more training camps that Jory has been to.
27:13We'll get into that right after this. All right, we're back.
27:16We're continuing to get the full intel from Jory here after her training camp tour.
27:20I mean, let's tell you what. You set the standard pretty high in that first segment.
27:24Okay, that was really good. We might have maybe should have done that one last.
27:28Don't say that. No, that was great. It's going to only get better from here.
27:31And we're going now to some NFC and AFC North teams combining these together.
27:35We're going to start in Green Bay here. I'm really excited about this offense this year.
27:39Potentially maybe throwing the football a little bit more, running with a little more pace.
27:43What did you see when you were in Green Bay?
27:45Yeah, I think what's interesting to me, first and foremost, is Matthew Golden.
27:49Because I think Matthew Golden had a mix of that size and speed last year.
27:53He didn't get a lot of opportunities. And now you say, okay, we don't have Romeo Dobbs here anymore.
27:57We don't have Dontabian Wicks here anymore. Yeah, there's still a lot of mouthfeet.
28:01I have a question for you. Romeo Dobbs plus Dontabian Wicks, no longer with them.
28:05How many combined targets do you think they got last year?
28:08Oh, I mean. Mr. Reception Perception. That's really unfair of you to put me on the spot like this.
28:13I think they probably, they at least got 120 plus combined.
28:15Oh, that's good. Okay, 131. Good work. Very, very close.
28:18And didn't even knock the microphone when we did the knuckles.
28:21So I think if you say, yeah, 131 targets that have to go somewhere, assuming it's the same number, I think Matthew Golden's getting a lot of them.
28:28When I was there early on in training camp, Jordan Love was going to him a lot.
28:32And it wasn't that he was looking for him because he was Matthew Golden.
28:36It's, hey, the ex-receiver for the Packers just moves around a lot, has a lot of versatility.
28:40There's just so much that they're expecting out of Matthew Golden.
28:43And so I think last year, part of it was the acclimation to the NFL.
28:47Part of it was the confidence. Part of it is I'm a little biased because I have a feature coming out on
28:53him this coming week on Yahoo Sports. Oh, all right.
28:55So you should read it. And we are reading again in 2026, people.
28:58Love it, love it. We're reading because we're serious journalists.
29:01Yes. And so, but I think part of it is once you get that first touchdown, Jordan Love told me, he's like
29:07all year last year with Matthew Golden. I was like, we're going to get you one.
29:11We're going to get you one. And then finally in the playoffs against the Bears, they got him.
29:15And I think that's what he needed to kind of take off right away this year.
29:19I don't think it was this element of, I mean, if you don't have the touchdown last year, you really have a
29:25different level of confidence the entire offseason. So I think that Matthew Golden's skill set, his now familiarity with the offense, what Jordan Love wants out of him.
29:32Yeah, obviously you still have Christian Watson. You still have other guys in the room.
29:36Of course, Tucker Craft is coming back, but you need to kind of see where he's at at the beginning of the year.
29:42I do think that Matthew Golden's the one I'm watching, particularly when, from a running back standpoint, I mean, what's going to, yeah.
29:48Right. We just found out news not long before we started recording today.
29:51At 340, this came in. Packers running back Josh Jacobs, according to Adam Schefter, now has been charged with misdemeanor battery and
29:57misdemeanor criminal damage to property, according to Wisconsin court records.
29:59Again, we shall see what happens from an availability standpoint with Josh Jacobs.
30:03But honestly, Jory, even without this, and this is obviously a huge red flag, he has like basically every other red flag
30:08in the book from a running back standpoint this year.
30:11The offensive line, and just typically projecting for fantasy, the offensive line probably has taken a step back this year.
30:16I think it looks worse on paper now than it did the previous two seasons.
30:20The defense is almost certainly, without Micah Parsons at the start of the year, going to be a lesser unit than we were probably expecting.
30:26And a lot of touches, getting a little bit older, coming off of a down season.
30:30Like, that's just red flag, red flag, red flag.
30:33At a running back position. I, to me, I don't know if you've got any sense of this, and I want to
30:38come back to the Matthew Golden point for sure.
30:41I just get the sense that this looks like a team that could be stylistically and tendency driven a little bit different this year from a run-pass ratio.
30:48How often, like, they're playing with a lot of pace in the preseason.
30:51They look like a team that could just throw the football straight up more this year.
30:55Yeah, I think they're going to need to. I think you obviously want some degree of balance, or if not balance, some
31:01degree of contribution from the run game. And there are certainly people there who are high on Marshawn Lloyd.
31:06That's kind of what we're going to have to see, what he looks like when it's actually real regular season play.
31:11But I think they're going to need to. And I think that Jordan loves at a stage in his career where he's able to support that.
31:18We saw Aaron Rodgers get there. Jordan's really at a point where Matt LaFleur is letting him take more control of the offense, have more input into it.
31:25I talked to Jordan about that, and he said he watched how much input Aaron had into the offense and to kind
31:31of push back on Matt, I like this, I don't like this, and wanted to get there.
31:35And Jordan feels like he's there now. And so I do think that there's going to be more on Jordan Love this year, and he's ready for that.
31:42This is one of those offenses, too, that I think can be like a sneaky right answer value in fantasy because so
31:48many of these guys go so late, Jordan. I mean, Christian Watson is the first pass catcher off the board at wide receiver 30.
31:54And they gave him a lot of money this offseason.
31:56Some of it may be a little bit funny money.
31:59They've got to protect themselves a little bit. Who amongst us doesn't have a little bit of funny money?
32:04But, yeah. Excuse me. I misspoke, actually. Since we got more positive injury news about Tucker Craft, he goes off the board
32:0960th overall over the last seven days in Yahoo.
32:12Christian Watson, 68. Then there's a big drop-off to Jaden Reed at 116.
32:15Then Jordan Love at 124. And then Matthew Golden all the way down at 126.
32:19So, based on what you're telling me, which I already am, but maybe even more so, you need to have Matthew Golden
32:25going a little bit higher than that 126 pick.
32:27I would. Yeah. Not just because of the feature.
32:29In part because of the feature, but not only because.
32:32No. I do think that they believe in him.
32:34And as Jordan told me when I asked him, like, hey, are you trying to get Matthew a little more involved?
32:39Is that why he was so involved in the practice I was there?
32:43And he's like, no, I'm a quarterback. While I'm going through my reads, I'm staying true to my progressions.
32:48But my progressions keep leading me to Matthew Golden based off the way he's getting separation.
32:52I think to be able to get the separation and have that speed he has, I do think that he's sort of
32:57figuring out how to take the traits he has and apply them and thrive with them at the NFL level.
33:02And the really interesting thing about Matthew Golden is, I kind of wrote this in his reception perception profile, that basically the
33:08conclusion at the end of the rookie season is I kind of find myself to be a little bit of a Matthew Golden centrist.
33:14Okay. Like, the way that his numbers come out here, it's kind of, it's not one of those, it's like, oh my
33:20God, this guy was so, so good. Like, they really made a mistake not getting him the football more.
33:25But it's also not so bad that it's like, this guy's going to be a bust.
33:29Because there's actually some indicate, like, 51st percentile success rate versus press.
33:32I think that's why he's now been in that X receiver role, because it allows them to keep Jaden Reed on the
33:38move, allows them to keep Christian Watson as the Z receiver.
33:40So he's playing a really important role for this offense this year.
33:43And, like, again, I want to kind of be open-minded to him being a much better player in year two than what he showed.
33:50Because also, Jory, and I think you brought up, like, the X receiver point and Jordan Love kind of finding him.
33:55He's essentially, like, last year he kind of had to play a little bit of Reed's role as that, like, slot move around guy.
34:01I chart him with 38% snaps in the slot.
34:03That, to me, doesn't really fit his game. This more just like, hey, run a straight-line vertical breaking route tree.
34:09That's going to fit his game a little bit more.
34:11What if you look at it, and I'm looking at my numbers here.
34:14So Matthew Golden had 361 yards, no touchdowns in the regular season.
34:17His touchdown came in the playoffs. If you look at Romeo Dobbs, who's obviously not with them anymore, he had 724 yards and six touchdowns.
34:24But their cash percentage, very similar, 65.9 to 64.7.
34:26And their yards per target, which is what I was really interested in because obviously the targets were so different.
34:31Matthew Golden had 8.2 yards per target. Romeo Dobbs had 8.5.
34:34Again, none of them are getting quite to the Tucker Craft, Christian Watson, when they were available.
34:38But I do think in the opportunities, like, if you projected out to more targets, maybe you do get 700-plus yards or
34:44800-plus yards, which is what Romeo Dobbs had because of how similar their numbers were, whether or not their styles are the same.
34:50Yeah, I have him 12 spots ahead of his current ADP, Matthew Golden.
34:53I think he's just like a really easy click right now.
34:56Okay, let's stick in this. Actually, we're going to skip Minnesota because we have a question about them in the hotline segment later.
35:02So we'll come back to Minnesota. Spoiler. Yeah, spoiler, because you've got a really good note there that I do want to get to.
35:08But let's go to the Ravens here. Declan Doyle, new offensive coordinator there.
35:12This is another offense. I can't wait to see how it plays out.
35:15What do you got for Baltimore? Yeah, so Declan Doyle, we should keep in mind, kind of started under Sean Payton in New Orleans.
35:21Sean Payton liked him enough that he brought him to the Denver Broncos as the tight ends coach.
35:26Then he goes under Ben Johnson as offensive coordinator, not play caller.
35:29And now he's with the Ravens as their play caller.
35:31Despite the fact that Jesse Minner, the Ravens head coach, had never worked with Declan before, but he saw what Ben Johnson was doing.
35:37When I did a feature on Declan last year, a lot of people described him as like another Ben Johnson.
35:43Obviously, he doesn't have the experience of Ben at this point, but very similar in terms of his philosophies and the detail-oriented element.
35:48And now you bring him to Baltimore. It's interesting to me because his whole career has been very tight end forward.
35:54Like last year in Chicago, Ben Johnson was a tight ends coach.
35:57Declan was a tight ends coach. They draft Colston Loveland in the first.
36:00They've got Cole Komet. So it was very tight end forward.
36:03I can't really tell. I'm not super convinced that the Baltimore personnel makes it make sense to kind of keep doing that.
36:09I do think with Lamar, it's a little bit interesting because I believe they've been switching him from like a right foot
36:14forward quarterback to a left foot forward quarterback in order to have the timing be a little more precise relative to the
36:20offense that Ben was running and Declan's now running.
36:22And so to me, even though they've been very praiseworthy and very encouraged by how Lamar has transitioned, they are transitioning some of the muscle memory.
36:29And so the same way that during training camp, there's been a little bit of a time to adjust.
36:34And now he's there. You got to wonder, will the muscle memory be there right away week one?
36:38Or will it take a few weeks before he really gets acclimated to feeling his full self in this offense?
36:43Yeah, I think you're kind of bringing up a point here that this is an offense I am interested in.
36:49I'm excited about to just kind of see how it looks like under Declan Doyle.
36:52Because I think his background is really interesting. And by the way, I just looked this up like Jesse Minter never played
36:58against Ben Johnson as a coach throughout the last couple of years when he was the Chargers coordinator.
37:03Again, I could be wrong about that. I just really looked it up because I looked it up quickly.
37:08I don't think they ever played against either. It was interesting because you would think like when Mike McDonald went out and
37:13hired Clint Kubiak, he's like, this scheme gives me trouble.
37:16So just interesting that those never really like collided in that way.
37:19But clearly a guy like Jesse Minter, who in my opinion is one of the best, certainly past defense minds in the NFL.
37:25Like when I watch receivers, Jory, and they go against that Chargers secondary, like they're just squeezing zone coverage routes.
37:30It's really fascinating that he pinpointed this offensive kind of coaching tree that he wanted to pluck from.
37:34But my point here is that like you're kind of bringing up a good note here that this is a pretty big
37:40transition for the quarterback, even if we don't think about it in the same way of like Jalen Hurts' transition earlier.
37:45Yeah, and so like he's definitely had moments at camper with the timing, with the left foot forward, like Durham Smythe was timing.
37:51The way that Lamar has his peripheral vision has been really impressive to Durham in terms of how he's seeing the rollouts.
37:57I think there's a lot that Lamar can do.
37:59I also think that you just got to wonder a little bit about the transition.
38:03Now, one of the things we should keep in mind is obviously we've seen Lamar in his first year under new offensive coordinators.
38:09He's won MVPs. I think that that would be a little bit of an unrealistic starting point for us to see that.
38:15On the other hand, they could have gotten like most young coaches like Jesse Minter would have said, I want a former head coach on offense.
38:21I want like a Cliff Kingsbury type on offense because then he can kind of be the head coach of the offense.
38:27I'll be the head coach of the defense. Yeah, you have some culture, et cetera, et cetera.
38:31That's not what they did because they felt like for Lamar to be at his best, he kind of needed someone a
38:37little bit younger and more likely to connect with him.
38:39And so Lamar and Declan do seem to be connecting very well.
38:43I mean, Declan was telling me about a day where it was one of their off days.
38:47Lamar came in to watch film in his office and they go from 2 to 530 p.m.
38:51And so they're definitely building that rapport. But is the system going to feel immediately natural?
38:55On one hand, you have to wonder if it takes time from the right foot forward to the left foot forward in the passing game.
39:02On the other hand, it's Lamar Jackson. They're like, why am I doubting Lamar Jackson?
39:06I shouldn't be. Especially now that he's healthy. He pointed out, like, they were just getting a question, I think I saw
39:11this week, where it was like, you didn't run a lot last year.
39:15He was like, yeah, I was injured all year.
39:17Right. So now that he's healthy, hopefully that helps too.
39:19Just on the starting point here, like getting off to a fast, slow start as we talk about the Eagles.
39:25At Indy, Saints, Cowboys, Titans, at Falcons the first five weeks of the season.
39:28Not bad. Week six, the Cleveland Browns. Like, there's definitely some spots where I think they could look.
39:33I'd be interested to see what this defense looks like against Brandon Staley, actually, because I think Staley did a really good job.
39:39But it is at least a home game in week two against the Saints.
39:42Last thing about the Ravens here. I know the receivers are really excited about playing in this offense.
39:47They've all seemed to, when they've talked about it, really, you know, more movement, more multiple alignments, the whole deal.
39:52Did you see anything or hear anything about their rookie receiver, Jacoby Lane?
39:55Because, like, everybody has been hyped about that guy.
39:58There has been a lot of hype on him.
40:00I probably should have focused more on him and less on, like, Jesse Minter wrapping Eminem for the team.
40:05But, yes, definitely a lot of positive encouragement. And I think also— You're not going for that easy clickbait, Joy.
40:10I think also just having the same way that Colston Loveling came in last year and obviously was talented, but also, like,
40:15defenses didn't yet know what to have for him.
40:18And I use him because Declan Doyle was in Chicago last year.
40:21I think having a young guy who is getting this level of hype but defenses don't yet know everything about him, that's a huge win for a team.
40:28And we have seen with Zay Flowers, I mean, they know what they're doing with receivers.
40:32Yeah, Zay Flowers. They didn't always, but we're getting there.
40:35They're getting a little bit better. Yeah. We shall see with the Jacoby Lane thing.
40:39Okay, Cincinnati, same division here. What are your notes from the Bengals?
40:42Yeah, first of all, I keep thinking back to last year when I was at Bengals camp and offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher I was talking to.
40:48And I asked him, what else did I not ask you that you think I should know?
40:53I regularly ask them, he's like, Chase Brown's going to be a household name.
40:56And they were high on Chase Brown then, they're high on Chase Brown now.
41:00Good. To me, the most interesting part of their receiver group, which obviously we don't really need to learn a whole lot
41:05on Jamar Chase and Tee Higgins in that group, is that for so many years the Bengals offense has been light years ahead of their defense.
41:12And not only does that matter in terms of the number of points they're going to score, it also matters in terms
41:18of the work they're getting in training camp. So let's start with training camp.
41:21In training camp, the day I was there, the defense looked a lot better.
41:25I mean, I talked to Jamar Chase after and he was kind of frustrated because he was like, these DBs were just
41:31playing so much more confidently because Dexter Lawrence is at the line of scrimmage creating so much problems for Joe for the pocket.
41:36And so I think that these receivers should be getting better work than they've gotten in the preseason and recent years.
41:42On the other hand, when you're talking fantasy perspective, I believe the Bengals' ideal world is that Joe Burrow is not playing
41:47hero ball in the way he does and that their offense is not scoring as many points as they do because the
41:53offense has just been, it's had so much on his shoulders for so many years.
41:57And they haven't won at all. I guess they made it to the Super Bowl in 2021 season.
42:01They haven't gotten back there yet. 2020 season? 2021 season.
42:04And so I think when you look at it, they don't want Joe to be doing these insane things a week, too.
42:10They want him to save it for the playoffs.
42:12And I do wonder, I think they're hoping the defense is stable enough that their offense can be a little more conservative than it has been.
42:19And it's really interesting because they are the number one team if you look at like how high their fantasy players are going.
42:25They have the fourth overall pick in ADP right now in Jamar Chase.
42:28They have the 16th overall pick in ADP in Chase Brown.
42:31They have the 33rd overall pick in ADP in T.
42:33Higgins. That is like if you just aggregate it, average it out.
42:36That's the lowest number, like golf score, you know, lowest number wins.
42:39That's the lowest for a team there across the league.
42:42And it's like if that defense is better, can that happen in that way?
42:46I think they're hoping it doesn't. Interesting. That is really fascinating.
42:48Last thing. I want to ask you, though. Yeah, okay.
42:51How do you factor Joe Burrow's health into your fantasy drafts?
42:54I mean. This isn't a one-year thing. No, it's not.
42:56I hope for him it's not this year. And I do think part of what they want, obviously they want the offense to still be great.
43:03They want the defense to be better. But they also want the offense to be different, right?
43:07They want it to – that's been a clear drumbeat from training camp too, that they're playing more under center, kind of
43:13less like get in the gun and spread it all out and do that because that puts a lot of pressure on
43:19the offensive line, puts a lot of pressure on the quarterback.
43:21And that's when you take more – I think you end up taking more punishment than you should when you play in
43:27that style in today's NFL because teams are just so good with like the pressure packages, the blitzes, the simulators, the creepers, all that.
43:33It's really, really difficult. So part of what I think they want to do is also, by the way, hey, our run
43:39game will be better if they marry the run and the pass together by your quarterback getting under center and running that
43:44style of offense so that it's not like third and eight and teams can go hunt Joe Burrow in that way.
43:50So it's one of those things where I do think, to your point, we're kind of ranking as if like the defense
43:55will still be bad and the quarterback will play all 17 games.
43:59Do both of those things happen again this year?
44:01That's kind of the question. You're saying you don't think so.
44:04I don't think that Joe Burrow's health and the defense combination will look like it did last year.
44:08That will definitely maybe be a little bit of an upset from a fantasy standpoint.
44:12That is pretty fascinating there. Real quick on the Steelers because we already talked about their running back situation in the hotline
44:18segment, but I know you have a note about the passing game that you want to get to here.
44:23Yeah, I sat down with DK Metcalf when I was there and he told me that last year he felt like in
44:28some ways he was walking on eggshells, not because someone made him feel that way, but just because it was a new team.
44:34He wasn't comfortable with it. It's Aaron Rodgers, four-time MVP in the house.
44:37He didn't really feel like he could have that dialogue two ways.
44:41Again, not because Aaron made him feel that way.
44:43That was just DK's feelings. Now he feels a lot more comfortable.
44:46So I'm only there for snapshots in training camp, but I was at the Steelers' first training camp practice last year.
44:51Went on the first throw of camp. Aaron targeted DK and he got picked off.
44:55Fast forward this year, I'm there maybe a week in, and he's going to DK all the time, and they're making quite a few paths or completions.
45:02So I expect the connection to be better. One, because their dialogue's better.
45:05Two, they've had experience. Three, Michael Pittman's now there, and so you have to take attention away from it.
45:10I think DK kind of knows where he fits in that offense now.
45:14So I'm not saying that some limitations he hasn't had throughout his career are going to disappear, but I do think that
45:19they will be more on the same page. And I think when you have the mind of Aaron Rodgers, it's almost one
45:25of your biggest challenges is being on the same pages, guys, because your mind's all the way up here.
45:30Yeah, this is one I totally don't buy, Jory.
45:32Okay. Because you said the name Michael Pittman. To me, when the games get going here and Aaron Rodgers is under pressure
45:38and the whole deal, he's going to do what he's done the last few seasons, which is get that ball out fast.
45:43And to me, they can say, as we're showing on the screen right now, Mike McCarthy says we're going to move DK
45:49Metcalf around the formation more this year. Okay, you're probably not.
45:52He's probably going to play X receiver most often.
45:54He's going to be outside boundary guy on the line of scrimmage running the vertical route tree, which is just harder to
46:00access those throws when your quarterback wants to get it out quick.
46:03They'll definitely do some designer stuff for DK because you want to get the ball in his hands and rumble after the
46:08catch, like slants and quick hitters and all that.
46:11But to me, again, late down in distances, quarterback wants to get the ball out of his hands quickly.
46:16Those are Michael Pittman throws. Michael Pittman is going to be the safety valve of this offense.
46:20You know Mike McCarthy. Slant flat. Slant flat. Slant flat.
46:22Okay. That's going to be a lot of DK on the slants, but Michael Pittman on the flats, which is those access throws that Rodgers wants.
46:29So I think Michael Pittman leads this team in catches for sure and maybe receiving yards this time.
46:34Okay, I understand where you're coming from. And in some ways, if Aaron and DK do anything, then maybe DK has so much attention on him.
46:40Plus Aaron's not what he used to be in the pocket.
46:43So I can see where you're coming from. The last note I'll say is that the whole no tackling in practice, fireless physical.
46:49I really started to realize on this year's training camp tour how much practices are dictated by whether the head coach is
46:55an offensive guy or a defensive guy. And I think you see that.
46:58And I know we're going to get to Seattle.
47:00So I'll have a note on that there. I'm like, we didn't get to that yet.
47:04But I do think that this offense is going to look better than it has in training camp, whether or not it's
47:10better than it had been in the regular season, because the rules are a little bit easier for them.
47:15Yes, that is like a huge context note when you're looking at practice overall and like especially tracking results and all that.
47:21It's just very different from a game environment. I don't need to tell people that.
47:24All right, we are going to take another quick break.
47:27We come back. We've got more training camp tours.
47:29We'll get into that. All right. All right, we're back and we have more training camp information you need to know to get from Jory here.
47:36But before, real quick, just want to acknowledge D.
47:38Dan's the man in the YouTube chat. Just a question on DK Metcalf that we just got.
47:43So since this related to the segment before the break, I'll hit it here really quickly.
47:4710-man half PPR, Devontae Adams and Corlin Sutton or Metcalf for George Pickens.
47:50You think this is a fair deal? Would you add Sutton or Metcalf to the trade here?
47:54I'll just say this right now. So just give me the George Pickens side of this.
47:58Okay. I am usually in favor of the just the one great player as opposed to two, like one good player, Devontae
48:04Adams, and one okay fantasy asset here. So for me, I don't know which side of the trade you're on here.
48:09D. Dan's the man. But just the pick inside is the one that I want.
48:13All right. So we want the pick inside of this thing here.
48:16Two okay sides for one great side. Usually, I want that from a fantasy standpoint, especially preseason.
48:21You don't know if you need two receivers. You probably just need one great one.
48:25That's going to move the needle for you more.
48:27And I would just say I'd rather have DK Metcalf than Corlin Sutton.
48:30And we're going to talk about the Broncos later.
48:32You are okay with DK Metcalf again? I'm just related to Corlin Sutton.
48:36And we're going to get to why. I'm a little less excited about Sutton this year when we get to your Broncos
48:41discussion because there is a player I'm really excited about.
48:44But before we get to that, we've got two teams to hit right now.
48:48Real quick on the Browns. Honestly, we have weirdly talked a lot about the Browns on this show because I'm such a big Casey Concepcion guy.
48:54And I do love Denzel Boston as well. But what did you see when you were there?
48:59Yeah, I think you go there. And again, I embedded with them for the drafts.
49:02I was there for their pre-draft strategy meetings as well as for the first round when they took Casey Concepcion.
49:08I was in their draft room and then had heard them talking a lot about Denzel Boston.
49:12And I think that the Browns' belief is they can't say it out loud, but they're in a rebuild.
49:17If anyone hasn't figured that out, I'd like to break the news to you.
49:20And so I think when you say that, you say if they're trying to realistically be a competitive team by 2027, their
49:26goal is if they can get a quarterback with the two first round picks for 2027, have all the pieces ready around that.
49:32So that brings us back to Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston, who they think are the receivers that will allow them to
49:38be competitive, even if it's not this year with this quarterback.
49:40I think when I look at it, you have Casey, who he's explosive.
49:44He's twitchy. They love how he can separate. They like that quickness.
49:47They've considered him versatile, slot, parameter, punt returns. And then you have Denzel Boston, who again, Casey, 6'1", 190 pounds.
49:52Denzel Boston, 6'4", 215. So he's a big guy.
49:54And I think they complement each other nicely. So you still have guys like Quinchon Junkins in the room.
49:59They do believe their offensive line is going to allow more functionality than it has in recent years.
50:04Obviously, we'll have to see if that bears out.
50:06But I think when I look at those two receivers, I don't think there's going to, it's not going to take time for them to earn trust.
50:13I mean, Casey had a great airborne catch in the end zone when I was there for practice one day.
50:18Denzel was really like lighting it up early. I think I got a like from me on the old Twitter machine.
50:23Yeah, yeah. Denzel was really lighting it up early before I was there.
50:27So I think both of those guys have the potential to get off to a quick start, assuming the offense is functional.
50:32Yeah, this is what I've said about the Browns ever since I was in this studio right after the draft was Browns fans invest in NFL Pro.
50:39Okay, this is going to be a great offense to watch back on tape because you're going to see Todd Monk can do a lot of cool stuff.
50:46Yeah. With Casey Concepcion, you're going to see Denzel Boston running some pretty nice routes for a big X receiver like that guy can separate.
50:53The problem is the results on Sundays from a fantasy standpoint might not be all that great because the quarterback situation.
50:58Right. I think them getting off to a fast start basically means the opportunities they get, they'll go well.
51:03But if you have an offense with a lot of three and outs, for example, they might not have that many opportunities.
51:09So it's going to be difficult. This team's not quite there.
51:12I also think in the past they had a defense with Myles Garrett.
51:15I do really like Jared Burris. And so I think this defense should still be a very good defense, but it might
51:20not be quite where it was last year. I factor that in a lot when thinking about how to rank Quinchon Judkins,
51:26who I think they want to maybe get him more involved in the passing game, but probably is like an early down
51:32banger for a bad team with a defense that maybe doesn't totally have what it used to, like keeping them in the same closer game scripts.
51:38There's that. And then secondly, to the Casey Concepcion point, a movement guy like him, he's going to get a lot of those layup easy targets.
51:45And from a fantasy standpoint, he will stack weeks because of that.
51:48Even if you know there's another ceiling there, this was like Zay Flowers early in his career, obviously a much better team.
51:54And of course, Todd was with Zay Flowers, but it's like they were giving him so many of those like screens, designer,
51:59easy button touches, but you know that he's way more than that.
52:02I ultimately think that we'll see a lot of Casey in from a fantasy standpoint this year will be okay.
52:08You'll know there's more to it. Yeah. And I also think, I mean, quarterback obviously matters here, both for quarterback position itself and for how it affects receivers.
52:15I would be shocked if Shadur doesn't start at some point this season.
52:18I would say week three, two road games, week three, they're at home.
52:21That's when Shadur starts. Yeah, it's definitely a popular answer and I think it has a lot of truth.
52:26I think that Deshaun's first two games will influence that.
52:29I don't think right now Shadur gets the week three start.
52:32I think what becomes complicated, and I've said this a couple of times is what if the offense is looking good, but
52:37they have two losses until the fans are mad?
52:40Or what if they're winning, but the offense looks really dysfunctional?
52:42Or Deshaun, maybe he was able to do things pre-snap, but post-snap it doesn't look that good anymore.
52:47I think some of these things become, like the gray area is actually more the problem because if somehow they look great, obviously he's playing.
52:53If somehow they look, not somehow, if they look terrible, obviously you have that situation that you need to figure out.
52:59And the Browns are going to want to know what they have in Shadur Sanders by the end of the year so
53:04that when they get to the 2027 draft, they know what they have in house already.
53:09So I would think Shadur would start more games than Deshaun this year.
53:12The question is, is that starting week three? Is it starting week six?
53:15And the first two weeks will really influence that.
53:18Well, we shockingly kind of know who's going to be starting for the Indianapolis Colts in week one.
53:22That's going to be Daniel Jones after what everybody has just talked about as this most miraculous recovery of all time for
53:28an Achilles tear, which is pretty crazy that he's going to be out there for week one after tearing that thing in December, right?
53:34I mean, that's modern medicine, baby. What a time to be alive.
53:37All right, so we got a lot of questions, though, about this Colts team because there's the Daniel Jones of it all.
53:43They're a lot of interesting pass catchers. What do you got for the Colts here?
53:46Yeah, I mean, obviously, Tyler Warren's the most exciting story they have, in my opinion.
53:50And I think that... Okay. Okay. No, I don't disagree.
53:53Look, I really like Tyler Warren from a fantasy standpoint this year.
53:56He's the guy that I keep saying screws up my draft plans because I want to be taking running backs and wide
54:02receivers in that 40 to 50 range. But then you see Tyler Warren, and you're like, ooh, that guy's going to get
54:07what I think you're about to say. A lot of opportunities this year.
54:11That's where I'm kind of conflicted is, on one hand, defenses know what Tyler Warren is now.
54:15And so you would think that the defensive attention would reflect that a little bit more perhaps than it did last year,
54:20especially at the beginning of last year. But then on the other hand, everyone tells me, Shane Steichen really believes in what
54:26Tyler Warren can do and how having him out there challenges defenses.
54:29If the linebacker is a cornerback, how are you defending him?
54:32Because it allows you to sort of hide the formations a little bit more.
54:36So I do still believe there's going to be a lot going on.
54:39As it relates to Daniel Jones, actually, look, good kid, easy to root for anyone's health.
54:43When I was there, which was early in training camp, he was not 100%.
54:47He was playing, but he wasn't 100%. And so I'm a little bit curious because we do historically see when guys have
54:52tears, particularly Achilles tears, the first year back, even if they're technically able to play, the league sentiment for a long time
54:58has been that first year you're not going to be 100%, but that second year you should be able to be.
55:03So you can come back from it, but the first year is going to be slow.
55:07Maybe he's fine. I think what I worry about is he ended up with the Achilles tear because of the fracture in
55:13his other leg and the compensation of that when he played through it.
55:16So I think that if I'm the Colts, I just really want to make sure let's not try and play through this.
55:22If we think that we're at 80, if you're at 80%, is that what you want to do to this guy?
55:27And how does that impact his performance? How does that impact his mobility?
55:31Because he is so tough and he is willing to do whatever it takes, no matter how he's feeling.
55:36But then he had to suffer the consequences last year when he ended up with what was likely a compensation injury.
55:41Sure. And I mean, I think that training camp is the worst time of year for the optimism of, oh, that guy's out there.
55:47Yeah. But he's not, like he's physically a person with the last name Jones and number 17 on his jersey, but he
55:53might not be the exact same person once you actually, again, get into the games.
55:57I think we always fall into that trap in training camp.
55:59Lastly, though, and by the way, Nate has been like, yeah, look at his foot in this training camp video.
56:04So he's been a little suspicious about that too because the constant drumbeat from Colts And what he had at, his footwork was not totally clean.
56:11Yeah, like a little bit just different looking, like maybe compensating again from that Achilles injury.
56:15I would be remiss, though, if we left this Colts section, if I didn't ask you about anything on my guy, Josh Downs.
56:21He's a player that I'm so excited about heading into this season.
56:24He is one of like my guys from a reception perception standpoint.
56:27Really excited about his opportunities here without Michael Pittman.
56:30Right. Keenan Allen on the roster, sure. But I mean, I think Josh Downs is in a really nice position to take a step forward.
56:36What does the staff think? Yeah, they definitely have felt like they could move on from Michael Pittman because of what Josh Downs has done.
56:42Now, Keenan Allen is not coming in so that they could together be Michael Pittman.
56:46It's more, okay, we needed some sort of veteran guy later in camp.
56:50He had the Shane Steichen familiarity. But I do think they're high on Josh Downs.
56:53I just think, you know, are all the pieces going to fit together?
56:57Because there's a lot of health questions for that team right now.
57:00There's a lot of health questions. He's a health question.
57:02Alec Pierce. Alec Pierce is a health question. He just got taken off.
57:06Tyler Warren. Yeah, he's dealt with injuries. I mean, it's just they are one of those teams where we know what the ceiling is.
57:12We saw it last year. Like a historic points per drive standpoint.
57:15I kind of hope they get back to it.
57:17How fun is it when they're there? It was so out of nowhere.
57:21Oh, yeah. Yeah, and there's so many talented receivers.
57:23Like this is one of those teams that I'm thinking about a lot because I feel like I missed out on it
57:28last year by not trusting a really good play call and a really good coach on like his pick of the quarterback situation here.
57:35Because I just and I was kind of take locked on the idea of I said it a lot last year.
57:40Tell me how like this doesn't go where it's Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson competing in training camp.
57:45Like how it doesn't go both these guys start games and everybody gets fired at the end of the year.
57:50We saw it not go that way, even though multiple quarterbacks did start.
57:53Yeah, because Daniel Jones was just like he was this sounds like mean when I say it, but he's the right type of quarterback for a coach.
58:00It's just like, OK, buddy, I'm gonna get you just get to the line scrimmage.
58:04This is where the ball is supposed to go.
58:06Just execute my vision. And that is like he's a perfect fit for Shane Steichen in that way.
58:11Yeah, and I also think from an offensive line standpoint, there are some pieces around him when he was in New York
58:16that just really didn't allow Daniel Jones to do a whole lot.
58:19Some years were better than others, but there were a lot of question marks around him.
58:23So I do think that Shane Steichen goes a little bit under the radar.
58:27But I think it's worth remembering that as much as we talk about the Vikings, who I know we're going to get
58:33to in the hotline, and we talk about how they let Sam Darnold go.
58:36One of the reasons they let Sam Darnold go last year was because they had Daniel Jones there at the end of that same year.
58:43And they believed they would be able to keep Daniel Jones in house to compete with J.J McCarthy.
58:47So the same way that Shane Steichen goes a little under the radar, in my opinion, Kevin O'Connell gets a lot of credit.
58:53And I like Kevin O'Connell a lot. And he was high on Daniel Jones.
58:57He thought that he was a guy worth keeping and worth paying.
59:00The Colts just paid him a little more. So I do think that when Daniel Jones left the Giants, we saw that
59:05there was a market for him that probably exceeded what I was expecting.
59:09Yeah, and I think Daniel's a better fit in that Steichen offense than the O'Connell offense.
59:13So I think that worked out for our guy Daniel Jones.
59:16His bank account certainly would agree with me. Okay, we're going to take another quick break.
59:20We come back. More training camps that Jory went to.
59:22We'll get into that right after this. All right, we're back.
59:25Let's get into some AFC slash NFC West trips here for our final section.
59:29Let's start in the NFC West. Seahawks. You mentioned earlier about the physicality from practice.
59:33What did you notice when you were there? What I noticed is that going back to this idea that practices often reflect
59:38the head coach and whether the head coach is an offensive head coach or a defensive head coach, I sat down with
59:44Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Flory, who had previously been with the tight ends and involved in a bunch of the scheme under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco.
59:51And he had this great line before I got there that I asked him about.
59:55He was like, it seems like every single practice scenario.
59:57I'm like backed up, no time on the clock, no timeouts.
60:00And I keep wondering who burned through all these timeouts.
60:03And it was such a great line because it's like, where are these scenarios coming from?
60:07But it kind of speaks to the way that Mike McDonald challenges the Seahawks offense because Flory's coming from a Kyle Shanahan team.
60:13And Kyle Shanahan does not run a soft practice.
60:15He runs a very intense practice, but it probably tilts a little bit to the offense in terms of how it's called in the situations that you're in.
60:22And then you go to Mike McDonald, a defensive coach, and he's like, I'm going to put you in the worst possible
60:28situation and see how you can get yourself out of it because this is training camp.
60:32And maybe if you get yourself out of it now, you can do it in the regular season.
60:37So that was kind of what someone who was not with the Seahawks last year noticed about the way they structure practice.
60:42As it pertains to what they're going to do on the field, Clint Kubiak goes to Las Vegas.
60:47So we have a new offensive coordinator. But they wanted to make sure that they kept that Shanahan-McVay system and particularly the
60:53Shanahan-San Francisco ideas that Sam Darnold was already familiar with and had a lot of success.
60:57They bring in Brian Flory from San Francisco. And I expect that the principles will be very similar.
61:01This is not a Jalen Hurts, you're switching systems.
61:04This is an earlier in Jalen Hurts career when you have a new coordinator running essentially the same system.
61:08One thing Brian Flory said in camp that I don't know if he more meant this philosophically or practically is that he really likes two running back looks.
61:16And he thinks that even though a lot of formations around the league are going to either it's more tight ends and
61:21bigger or you're getting all these receivers on the field because it's such a passing game now.
61:26He really likes how two running backs who have different styles on the field at the same time can create hesitation.
61:31Now, this is a team that doesn't have their Super Bowl running back because I think he's with the Kansas City Chiefs right now.
61:37So you need to have the people to do this.
61:40We did take Jadarian Price in the first round though.
61:42Yeah, Jadarian Price is there. He was not fully healthy when I was there and so you kind of have to figure
61:48out how quickly he can get caught up. Obviously, Zach Charbonnet, what's his health going to look like?
61:52Like I'm trying to sort through is this a two running backs is great because no one's fully ready to take on
61:58that load or is it we actually like what it does to the defense or a little bit of both?
62:03Yeah, there's such a fascinating offense this year because the coordinator changeover and Brian Flory is like a really fascinating guy like very interesting background.
62:10You know, he's like the director of football research for the Dolphins for a while.
62:13He started out coaching on the defensive side of things, but he's like a collegiate quarterback.
62:18Really, really interesting background of a guy there, but he comes from San Francisco and of course keeps all that familiarity there,
62:23which I think is really good for Sam Darnold.
62:25Like Sam Darnold is a really good fit in this offensive system.
62:29He's one of these guys where you don't want to get him like frazzled post-snap.
62:32But, you know, you don't want to make too many decisions post-snap.
62:35It's like, hey, get up there and, you know, if it's this coverage, this is your first read, like blah, blah, blah, blah, the whole thing.
62:42Like very kind of – this comes off derogatory when you then do like the pointless, where do I rank this guy like league-wide, quarterback-wise?
62:49But on this team, he can execute these assignments because it's just like he's a good fit for this.
62:53Just don't ask him to do too much that he's not comfortable with.
62:57But they probably won't, and they – Jory have like some interesting maybe ascending players like Rashid Shaheed now with the full offseason with this team.
63:03Jadarian Price, if he can get running like and getting up here and going if he's healthy, he could be a big
63:09change force like Elijah Arroyo in year two. There's just a lot here I think to be excited about this offense.
63:14And from a fantasy perspective, people are really basically drafting Jackson Smith and Jigba, kind of mid-round pick on Jadarian Price, and that is it.
63:21Cooper Kupp? No. I mean, people draft Cooper Cupp, but like they should not draft Cooper.
63:25Okay. Don't you think Cooper Cupp has kind of transitioned into his like coach on the field slash like useful blocker role?
63:31Like he's just not really – I still think he's useful for like football purposes.
63:34For football. Yeah. Oh, totally. Well, Nate and I just did a show yesterday talking about like the 10 players who are better in real life than fantasy.
63:42Yeah. And we joked that Cooper Cupp has kind of gone from being like a fantasy superstar to that type of player.
63:47And I think that – again, but that makes the offensive ecosystem feel complete.
63:51That's a good point. Like still 12.6 yards per reception last year, 593 yards, but only two touchdowns.
63:55Exactly. And like not a lot of targets, not a lot of opportunities.
63:59Right, right. Because he's there to block and like set things up for JSN.
64:02He's there so Jackson Smith can get like a 30% target share, which I think is really the key for this whole thing.
64:08So let's go to another team in the NFC West, Brian Flory's former team, San Bernardino's former team, 49ers.
64:13I mean, we kind of have to talk about the man of the hour here, DeJong Stribbling.
64:17Really interesting player. What did you see from him?
64:20Yeah, I sat down with DeJong Stribbling and talked to him.
64:23And I think, first of all, this is a guy who – not to get cliche about the mindset, but it was
64:28right after his really productive preseason game. And when I asked him about it, all he could tell me is like, I missed assignments.
64:34I have to get so much better. And I think it was Shanahan who had kind of – Well, I was going
64:40to say, that was what I saw Shanahan talking about.
64:42He's like, I don't really care about preseason. Like, he's got to clean some stuff up.
64:47Right, right, right. And George Kittle said this. George is like, Kyle's not afraid to go after everyone.
64:51He went after DeJong Stribbling in the meetings in front of everyone.
64:54I think that when I talked to general manager John Lynch, he's kind of like – First of all, obviously, they were
65:00not so concerned about what other teams thought. Sure, there are some teams I've talked to who are more like, yeah, maybe mid to late second.
65:07But there weren't – the teams I'm talking to are not like this is a fourth-round pick.
65:11I think when a guy is going from school to school and college, he's not always able to show everything.
65:16And then when you look at what Lane Kiffin was doing, like there was some tempo stuff that didn't allow him to run the full route tree.
65:23That is what John Lynch believes. And so I think that – Oh, I can tell you that.
65:28Yeah, and as I say to some of the reception perception guy.
65:31So I think that John Lynch's belief was that you had to work harder to scout DeJong Stribbling because he had been in different systems.
65:37And some of them were a better fit for him and asked him to do more.
65:41But I think that they felt like he had that ability.
65:44And perhaps most importantly, Brock Purdy definitely trusts this guy.
65:46Nice, yeah. I mean it's obviously – so I see what he does in preseason games.
65:51So when I'm there for practices, I mean Brock was going to him quite a bit.
65:55You can tell me if this is like too much narrative scouting here.
65:58But I look at Stribbling as a guy that – you know, you read like Dane Brugler's write-up of him in The Beast.
66:04He's talking about like from a military background, like really good kid, gets great character reports.
66:08And then like I can back this up from watching him.
66:11He's like a high football character player too where he gives a ton of effort, catches everything.
66:15He blocks for his teammates. He gets – he almost never goes down on first contact.
66:19So like number one, all of that sounds like a Kyle Shanahan receiver.
66:23And some of the stuff that they've maybe gone through with receivers the last few years would maybe inform them to skew into a type like this.
66:30Right. I think personality-wise this guy is much more Christian McCaffrey than he is Debo Samuel or Brandon Ayuken.
66:34Even they've had some guys – like they've had guys like Jawan Jennings who are much more like I'm going to be the bully on the field guy.
66:42Well, he's kind of like souped up Jawan Jennings is who he kind of – From the play style you're saying.
66:47Yeah. But from a personality, it's much more Christian McCaffrey like going to do everything right vibes so far.
66:52So far, yeah. So I mean the hype on Stribbling is pretty crazy from a fantasy perspective.
66:56I mean from a social media perspective. But there is a reason for it and I'm glad to hear the people that
67:02you talked to believe he was a day two pick because that's what I had him ranked as.
67:06You know, as a prospect, I had him ranked as a day two player.
67:10He just goes on literally the first pick of the second day which is maybe aggressive but still like he was a
67:16day two player that got drafted on day two.
67:18Yeah, two notes on that. First of all, I do think there were some teams that were not in the market for
67:24a receiver that were much higher on him than people realize.
67:26I also think it's interesting because, again, going back to when I was in the Browns draft room, Andrew Berry had told
67:32my time, their general manager, that 2024 draft, 2025 draft, there kind of seemed to be this consensus on a lot of
67:38picks across the league, not across the media. Because, you know, there's a lot more data available.
67:42There's a lot more information. The way people were scouting seemed to be more similar and so they were arriving at more of the same conclusions.
67:49The Browns, for example, who ended up getting Casey, Concepcion, and Anzal Boston when they would have been happy to get one
67:54and didn't think they could necessarily get to relative to where they picked, were surprised that those guys were available in part
68:00because they thought that other people would be higher on them than they were.
68:03So I do think particularly at receiver in this age of guys switching schools that there is going to be less consensus on sharing guys.
68:10That doesn't mean they're not going to be ready.
68:12Yeah, and guys coming out a little bit later too.
68:15It skews some of the, like, statistical modeling, which I think is a lot of what led to Stribbling being, quote, like
68:20a reach in some methods and models there. All right, last one we're going to talk about here because you went to
68:26the Chargers, you went to the Rams, two LA teams, but they're going to come up in the hotline segment.
68:31Broncos, talk to you about Jalen Waddell and what we're seeing there because, and Bo Nix and the whole deal because, like,
68:37my God, Jory, I have been really high on Jalen Waddell ever since that trade happened.
68:41Yeah, they're very high on Jalen Waddell and they're very high on how he can be that speed element.
68:46They've kind of been missing in the burner. They're excited that they no longer feel like they can't throw to Patrick Sertan's side of the defense in practice.
68:53Interesting. And I think what's interesting is there's a play, I think it was in the preseason game, I wrote about this,
68:59where Jalen Waddell almost, like, kind of stops before getting the ball.
69:02And it's because he's so fast that it's like he was running too fast.
69:05And so I think that Bo Nix is going to continue to be acclimated from him, but that was, like, a 35-yard
69:11catch or something like that on third and five in the preseason game.
69:14Obviously, it's a preseason game, but I think it reflects how when you really need that yardage, they feel like he can do it.
69:20And he also, I believe, got something like 23 yards after the catch on that play.
69:24So they think it's going to be on the front end and they think it's going to be on the back end too.
69:30Well, and that was really fun to watch that play too because one of the biggest reasons I'm excited about Waddell is
69:36that when he was in Miami, because they did a lot of role catering to time and kill, Jalen Waddell was often
69:42the ex-receiver, like, the outside on-ball player. And that doesn't really, like, he can play, obviously he can play that position.
69:47We've seen him be really efficient while doing that.
69:49But he really is that, like, move, slot, Z receiver, which Sean Payton has talked about him as that guy.
69:54And on that play that you're talking about there, that was one where he motions into the slot, he's off the ball,
70:00and he runs a vertical route at the seam.
70:02And I was like, this is exactly what I've been talking about for months.
70:06Which, by the way, they are saying they're going to use a lot more emotion.
70:10That's what the defense is telling me. So, I mean, everyone and their mom is saying they're going to use more emotion, more under center, more play actions.
70:17It's going to make for that what you will.
70:19But I do think that it's still going to be the Sean Payton offense generally, but I think that Davis Webb is
70:25going to modernize it a little bit. Yeah, I'm really excited to see what the Davis Webb, like Bo Nix, Sean Payton dynamic looks like.
70:31But one thing I know for sure is that, like, when Jalen Waddell is available in the fourth round of my fantasy
70:37drafts, if he's there and I'm on the clock, I'm taking him there every time.
70:41I really think he is going to be one of the guys that defines this season from a wide receiver.
70:46Yeah, I think that's a good one. Yes, and to check it, it was 35 yards, but it was 23 before the catch, 12 after.
70:52So, again, they're going deep with him, but he's still able to tack it on.
70:56And he was able to tack on 12 yards after the catch, even though he didn't catch it in stride.
71:01Pretty exciting stuff. They've really needed a player like that.
71:04It's almost like why you go out and give a first round pick, third round pick, and a nice little trade package for a guy like this.
71:11And then you give him a lot of targets.
71:13That's usually how it works out. All right, we're going to take our last break.
71:17We come back. Your questions, plus more camp visits, all combined in the Toyota mailbag.
71:21We'll get into that right after this. All right, we're back.
71:23And welcome to Fantasy Hotline, presented by Toyota, the official automotive partner of the NFL.
71:27Every Thursday, we are taking your most pressing questions for Fantasy Hotline.
71:30And today, we asked because we have an elite, serious, professional reporter here who was at all these training camps who said,
71:36you people out there, you folks at home, what's your most pressing question you have about a player or situation from training
71:42camp that you feel you did not get answered?
71:44We're going to answer it today between your reporting and my whatever's going on up here.
71:48Men's knowledge. Known idiot fantasy takes. We're going to try to combine all that together and give the people the right answer.
71:54We're going to start in Los Angeles with the LA Rams.
71:57Again, a camp that you are at, Jory. At Greg Fear 2.
72:00Love to read the Twitter handle. Says, McVay has always had a bell cow back as far as I can remember, but this year seems different.
72:06How involved will Blake Corum be in the Rams backfield?
72:09Will it be 50-50 because of blowouts and the Rams resting current?
72:12Or will Corum legitimately earn touches? Thanks, Matt. Love the content.
72:15I can see why this one made it in because they said something nice about me and the show.
72:20Love the content. That was mostly Colin reading that and saying, love Colin's content because he thinks this is all about him.
72:25I was thinking the biggest unanswered question is like, who all loves your content?
72:29And now we're getting an answer of like this guy.
72:31Greg Fear 2. If you love the content, let us know in the YouTube comments.
72:35Okay? We really need the validation. Okay. So on the Rams part is, I think the question here in terms of how
72:41much will Blake Corum be involved, Jory, is kind of how much like explosives is this offense looking to find?
72:46Because Kyron's been a good success rate player, but Corum has brought more explosive playability.
72:50So what do you think about like the explosive play potential of this offense?
72:53Yeah, it's so interesting because I think first of all, obviously all this starts with Matthew Stafford and what his threat is.
72:59Well, he's coming off an MVP season in which last year he didn't practice in training camp because he had an injured back.
73:05And then he went on to be MVP. So like, forget his age.
73:08I feel like the ceiling is so high for him.
73:11And you have Puka who is on a contract year.
73:13So you have that. McVay always evolves. I feel like anytime we're like, this is what McVay is going to do.
73:19It's just like a lack of humility when we're saying that, because that's the thing that makes him so great.
73:24It's as much as we say the Shanahan McVay system, McVay's system is an evolving system.
73:28And he's always really different last year from what it was in 2017.
73:31And so we keep hearing, oh, 13, they're going to have this heavy personnel.
73:35And I think they will. And the question is, what does that look like for the run game?
73:39But I think they're blocking with, if you have that 13 personnel, should be really interesting.
73:44Yeah. And I think from a Blake Coran perspective, he likely will eat a little bit more into Kyron Williams workload.
73:49I don't know that it would ever be true 50, 50, but the reality is like both of these backs are good
73:55picks this year because if one, and this applies to Kyron too, if Kyron was to miss time, Blake Coran would obviously be a huge winner there.
74:01But on the inverse, Blake Coran missed any time.
74:04Like they just traded Jarquez Hunter for 2-2 Atwell today.
74:06So I kept telling you guys like 2-2 Atwell was not going to be involved in the Dolphins receiving court.
74:11Was right about that. Like their young guys are way more interesting.
74:15But yeah, like Jarquez Hunter is not there. It's going to just be like the Kyron Williams show if anything happens to Blake Coran.
74:21Let's go to the next question here. We're sticking in.
74:23Can I say one last thing? Sure. I think we'd be disingenuous to not mention that Miles Garrett and their new cornerbacks
74:29should allow the defense to get off the field more quickly.
74:32And so I'm curious to end up having a couple more offensive possessions a game because of what your defense can do.
74:37That's a really good point. It's something we don't talk enough about from a fantasy standpoint that actually, if your defense is
74:43good, it allows your offense to get more drives in.
74:46So that could be really interesting for this Rams team.
74:48Okay. Next one comes in from at donkey underscore dealer.
74:51I've been looking for a donkey dealer. Well, good.
74:53You can hit this person up. What is going on with Aranda Gadsden?
74:56Does he have a role in the Chargers offense or does he get buried by Mike McDaniel?
75:01I want to hear what you have to say about the Chargers.
75:04I will just say quickly. Yeah. What's going on with Aranda Gadsden is he is going to get buried by Mike McDaniel
75:09because Gadsden is like a, is a Tino. He's a tight end in name only.
75:13He's like Mike Gusecki. And what happened with Mike Gusecki when Mike McDaniel got to Miami, he's like, I need actual real tight ends.
75:19I need blockers, which is why like Charlie Kolar is going to play more snaps.
75:23David and joke who's going to play more snaps.
75:25So yeah, Gadsden can't draft him to fantasy. Maybe something changes, see what happens.
75:29But for now, I think it's gonna be a lot of those two guys.
75:33He'll be on the field a little bit and be a matchup nightmare, but not enough to be like a fantasy factor necessarily.
75:39So when you look at some of the other players and just like the structure of this offense, what did you kind of see from that?
75:45Yeah. I would say the context to keep in mind in terms of how everyone will perform is that Mike McDaniel firmly believes in the quick game.
75:52He believes I don't trust any offensive line, even if they're talented in the NFL against the guys that are coming on the defensive line.
75:58And so I need to get the ball out.
76:01You saw how quickly Tua got the ball out all the time, which means a lot more of the quick game.
76:06And so yes, they're hoping for yards after the catch, but I don't think they're going to air it out deep as much.
76:12And if you look at Justin Herbert, since he got in the league, no one has had more sacks, more quarterback hits, more pressured.
76:18And that's what the Chargers are going to be solving for, which we already see why they need to, because Tyler Biotish is already out for the season.
76:25And so we're already injured long-term. I believe it's out for the season.
76:29So, yeah. So I just think that that's what you got to figure out is that the yards before the catch, I think is going to go down.
76:36The question is what's the yards after the catch can all play.
76:39Well, and luckily they are top two receivers, Lad McConkie, Quentin Johnson, are guys who can break tackles.
76:44Lad, like I compare him to Tyler Lockett as like a route runner and as a separator, but obviously people think of
76:49like late career Tyler Lockett, just giving himself up after the catch.
76:52I'm thinking like Tyler Lockett when he was an incredible returner.
76:55And Lad McConkie is a guy that broke a lot of tackles in college and can be a returner as well.
77:00So he's a good fit here. And QJ is a good fit here too.
77:04I kind of compare QJ, Jory to, I don't know if you remember that, like Arthur Smith season in 2020 with the Titans where AJ Brown was awesome.
77:11He was number three in the NFL in yards per outrun.
77:14Corey Davis was number five in the NFL in yards per outrun that year because it's like you get all these heavy
77:20personnel packages, but you're really just looking for explosives to the receivers.
77:23So both these guys are in interesting positions from a redraft ADP standpoint.
77:26Anything else on chargers or should we? Just on Arthur Smith, because you mentioned him, Johnny Smith got signed by the Packers.
77:32And I didn't know that Johnny Smith was allowed to play without Arthur Smith.
77:35I thought he was going to go back to Ohio State.
77:38Yeah. I mean, that would have been nice because Josh says something on the Bold Predictions show, I believe, that we pre-taped earlier today for Labor Day.
77:45And that was proven right actually by the John or Smith signing like 20 minutes later.
77:49So that's going to be fun when you guys see that like in a week or so from now.
77:54Okay. I want to skip ahead and go to Minnesota.
77:57If we can get that tweet up here, producers, because Jory was at that camp and we did say we're going to come back to it.
78:03Look at these guys. They're so good. At Moose FFB, is Kyler Murray actually a viable quarterback to support the players going around him from a fantasy standpoint?
78:10Haven't heard much of his performance since being named starter.
78:13You were in Minnesota. What did you see from the Kyler Murray experience?
78:16Yeah, I think we got to start off by the context for Kyler Murray this season and for the Vikings this season
78:22is that, yes, this is still a Kevin O'Connell offense, but they hired Frank Smith, who worked under Mike McDaniel in Miami to revitalize the run game.
78:29And they're all super impressive that I talked to Aaron Jones about this.
78:32I talked to Justin Jefferson and they think that that is really going to allow them to have a level of balance.
78:38And so when you say, well, Kyler, does that really fit what KOC is doing?
78:42I think that Kyler's run threat paired with new run game principles is probably more of a problem for defenses than Kyler's
78:47run threat with the Vikings offense as it looked last year.
78:50I'm interested to see this fit. I think it was pretty clear for me, even when I was there on their first
78:56day of practice and there had not been a decision yet at quarterback, that they believe the ceiling was much higher with
79:01Kyler and that's what they wanted to go for.
79:04I think Kyler is going to be very motivated.
79:06I think you and I talked at the combine this year about how I had people telling me, Kyler's the guy you
79:12might not want to put on your team, but you don't want to play against nothing.
79:16You don't want to put him. I'm not trying to trash the guy, but like he's not Patrick Mahomes right now, but
79:21that he's such a problem for defenses that they can't stand game planning against him.
79:25And now you put him with Justin Jefferson, among others.
79:28I think there's a lot they can do. I will say he and Jordan Addison were more on the same page when
79:33I was there than he and Justin Jefferson. It was early in camp.
79:37So that's not necessarily what it's going to look like next month.
79:40That was what it looked like when I was there.
79:42And I think the fascinating thing about Kyler is that we've seen the rushing drop off of late.
79:47You know, 29 carries for 173 yards, obviously got injured and, you know, soft benched last year in 2024, 78 for 572, 2023, four for 244.
79:54He used to have like 133 carries, 819 yards in his second season, 11 rushing touchdowns, 88 carries in 2021.
79:59I think one of my, one of my theories is like, they've signed Kyler.
80:02It's a one year deal. They're really intent. And I agree with you about fixing this run game.
80:07I think this is the Kevin O'Connell feels like he gives lip service to like fixing the run game every year, but
80:13this year, they've actually made like a coaching move to go.
80:15You mentioned Frank Smith. That's a big one to fix this thing.
80:18I really feel like Kyler is going to be a big part of the design run game.
80:23Cause it's like, it's here on a one year deal.
80:25You know, if it works out, it works. If not, move on.
80:28I think there's the design run game, but also like those are his rushing yards.
80:32You still have the times he escapes the pocket and throws downfield.
80:35And I feel like if they say, it kind of just keeps the defense honest a little bit, because I think that
80:41part of Kyler's legs is going to be actually running.
80:43And a lot of it is going to be extend the play and get downfield.
80:47I remember talking to one of his college offensive linemen back at the combine when they were coming out and he was
80:53just like blocking for Kyler is such a pain.
80:55Cause you just like the play is never over.
80:58And again, this is not Kyler six years ago.
81:00I get that, but I do think that fearing Kyler going out will create some more opportunities.
81:04Last one here. This is from at Jonathan doe seven was national Jalen Coker day.
81:08Just a one year thing. I was like, what is this?
81:11Because I was like, what the hell are we talking about here?
81:14And they linked a tweet that I posted last year, a video of a mad Mick Mads Mikkelsen, the actor doing that, like dancing on the street.
81:21You ever seen that, that mean that I'm looking at it right now from our show.
81:25So great job producers. Excellent. Great job producers. Me all day during this, what's now known as national Jalen Coker day.
81:30I said this last year, because this is the year that, or this is the day last year that Adam Thielen was
81:36released by the Panthers or not released, was traded to the Minnesota Vikings.
81:39So I was able to celebrate like Jalen Coker was now going to take Adam Thielen's job.
81:44You know, this, this was a, but unfortunately I think we, it actually wasn't Jalen, national Jalen Coker day because Jalen Coker
81:49got hurt like right after this and missed the, with the quad injury and missed the first part of the season.
81:55So maybe out of respect for Jalen Coker, we should stop having national Jalen Coker day.
81:59Well, national Jalen Coker day is now the anniversary of his eruption game against the Rams in the playoffs.
82:04Okay. That's probably because, uh, yes, because unfortunately we didn't get to see the lift off until later in the season.
82:09Yeah. I remember this because I posted this. And then two days later, my wife and I were on our annual end of summer trip.
82:15And I got the alert about Jalen Coker being, you know, having to go on IR because of this injury after we
82:21hiked to the top of like one of the Shenandoah, Shenandoah mountains.
82:24And I was like, Oh, can I just throw my damn phone right off this after getting this newsletter?
82:29It was like, wow, I'm so detached from the world.
82:32This is my end of summer trip. Football. It's a whole day, whatever.
82:35And then that's the newsletter I got. I want to just literally throw my phone off the top of the mountain.
82:40But so that's why I didn't really celebrate today because now it's kind of a hurtful thing, but we will celebrate Jalen Coker based on every other day.
82:47Well, I'm attempting to get a hike in on Sunday as it's like Mondays are our anniversary.
82:52So I'm sure that when all those cuts come through and someone gets cut, I too will have a national somebody day
82:57of why I'm hurt because you just toss that phone right off the mountain.
83:01Got a lineup dilemma, a trade debate or league controversy.
83:04The fantasy hotline is open all season long. So send us your toughest lineup questions and we just might feature them in an upcoming episode.
83:10Also it's Yahoo fantasy's 29th year. Don't know if you guys know this.
83:13I've only been telling you every day. It's day 18 of 29 and we are revealing Yahoo fantasy, a head to toe refresh.
83:19Okay. Visual vitamins, new look optimized for both light and dark modes, smoother navigation and standing swipeable matchups, new player cards.
83:25People have big feelings about the light and dark mode.
83:27So I'm sure there's a lot of folks, a lot of folks that really love this update.
83:31I know I love it. And I also know that I love having Jory on the show.
83:36This has been absolutely fantastic. I really appreciate you classing up this show with your serious reporting and serious journalism.
83:41Jory, thanks for stopping by. It was awesome being on with you, Matt.
83:44I feel like we should have like made a little more fun of you calling yourself a known idiot, but we have another day for that.
83:51I am a known idiot, you know, so it is what it is.
83:54All right. That's just how this whole thing goes.
83:57You got to be self-aware. Okay. We love self-aware.
83:59If you're, if you're going to be behind a microphone for way too many hours during the day, you got to have
84:05at least a little bit of self-awareness. People are listening for some reason other than because you're an idiot.
84:09You would think. A known idiot. That doesn't mean I can't eventually stumble you into a few good takes along the way.
84:15That is going to do it from us today.
84:17Thanks to our friends over at Toyota, the official automotive partner of the NFL who are here all season long celebrating the
84:23passions, traditions, and unforgettable moments that make America football, America's absolute obsession.
84:26Okay. You'll love to see it. All right. On Sunday, I am going to be back and you guys are going to
84:32be able to watch our show from Buffalo. That's right.
84:34Yahoo fantasy draft weekend. It's this weekend. I know you guys are making your travel plans right now, but if you can't
84:40make it for whatever reason, which is unfortunate, you're going to be able to watch the live show from Buffalo with Josh Norris and Justin Boone.
84:47And for your fantasy teams, you're also going to hear my sit down with Ryan Fitzpatrick as we talk some young quarterbacks.
84:52That's going to be right here at 4 PM Eastern on this YouTube channel.
84:56Until then, we are out.
