Bo Nix

NegativeProjection37:01

Washington suggests Bo Nix as a potential late-round quarterback option to weave into draft strategies.

Insight page

Brock Bowers

PositiveUsage42:22

Washington highlights Brock Bowers as one of the few tight ends to run 30 routes per game last year, a key metric for league-winning tight ends according to Ryan Heath's research.

Insight page
PositiveValue51:03

Brock Bowers is considered an elite tight end target who should be drafted if he falls to the third round, though the analysts generally advise waiting on the position unless a top-tier option is available.

Insight page
NegativeValue106:41

Brock Bowers is a highly talented player who is tempting to draft in the second round, though he carries some injury risk.

Insight page

Brock Purdy

NegativeBust23:12

Brock Purdy is becoming a 'fade' candidate due to the mounting injuries and chaotic environment surrounding the 49ers. With multiple skill players injured and the team's overall health in question, he is no longer a priority target and should only be considered if he falls outside the first 11 rounds of drafts.

Insight page
NegativeProjection37:01

Washington includes Brock Purdy as a late-round quarterback option for fantasy managers.

Insight page
NegativeValue40:33

Washington notes that the comparison between Brock Purdy and Rome Odunze is more nuanced, suggesting Odunze could have special upside this year.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

NegativeProjection36:58

Washington considers Caleb Williams a viable option in the mid-to-late round quarterback tier alongside Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, and Trevor Lawrence.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

PositiveUsage42:22

Washington identifies Colston Loveland as having reached the 30-route-per-game threshold over the last few games, a key indicator for potential fantasy success.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout46:15

Colston Loveland is considered an awesome prospect, though his rising ADP makes him a tricky draft selection; he is viewed as part of a younger, hungrier group of tight ends with breakout potential.

Insight page

Courtland Sutton

NegativeValue40:21

Washington indicates that Courtland Sutton is a less desirable pick compared to Trevor Lawrence in a direct comparison.

Insight page

Dak Prescott

NegativeProjection36:58

Washington views Dak Prescott as a solid quarterback option in the mid-to-late round range.

Insight page

Daniel Jones

NegativeUsage37:30

Washington notes that Daniel Jones is a viable streaming option, despite coming off a major injury, as his scoring output is comparable to mid-tier quarterbacks.

Insight page

Derrick Henry

PositiveValue42:19

Washington expresses a preference for drafting Derrick Henry over Colston Loveland, viewing him as a more reliable or impactful asset.

Insight page

Garrett Wilson

NegativeValue42:22

Washington indicates a lack of interest in drafting Garrett Wilson, citing a preference to avoid the Jets' offense in favor of the Bears.

Insight page

George Kittle

NegativeInjury23:53

George Kittle is noted as being one of the 'healthier' players on the 49ers roster despite his own injury history, highlighting the extreme depth of the team's current injury issues.

Insight page

George Pickens

PositiveProjection100:13

George Pickens is viewed as having immense upside, with the possibility that he could outperform CeeDee Lamb due to his connection with Dak Prescott in a high-scoring offense.

Insight page

Harold Fannin

PositiveBreakout45:26

Washington highlights Harold Fannin as an outlier prospect, citing Ian Harditz's data showing Fannin's missed tackles forced are comparable to Deebo Samuel's best marks. Fannin also recorded one of the highest target rates for a rookie tight end ever and led college football in yards per route run.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout45:53

Harold Fannin is viewed as a high-upside prospect who led college football in yards per route run; if he were on a team other than Cleveland, he would be considered a top-50 draft pick.

Insight page

J.K. Dobbins

NegativeInjury94:03

J.K. Dobbins is expected to be productive for Denver, but there is significant concern regarding his durability given his history of never playing 13 games in a season.

Insight page

Jacoby Brissett

NegativeUsage37:30

Washington identifies Jacoby Brissett as a potential streaming quarterback option based on his historical scoring proximity to mid-tier starters.

Insight page

Jahmyr Gibbs

PositiveRole43:10

Washington notes that Jahmyr Gibbs could be argued as the second option in the Lions' passing game, benefiting from being on a high-scoring offense.

Insight page

Jake Ferguson

NegativeValue48:46

Jake Ferguson is categorized as a floor play who will likely provide consistent, albeit modest, weekly production.

Insight page

Jalen Hurts

NegativeValue40:04

Washington contrasts Jalen Hurts with elite-tier players, implying he may not provide the same 'eye test' dominance or value when compared to top-tier options.

Insight page
NegativeValue40:08

Washington contrasts Jalen Hurts with Tony Pollard, implying a specific tier or value decision for fantasy managers.

Insight page
PositiveProjection60:14

Jalen Hurts is a high-ceiling target at quarterback, particularly if the 'tush push' remains in the Eagles' playbook, which could lead to 15 rushing touchdowns; he is a comfortable target around the 70th pick.

Insight page

Jameson Williams

NegativeRole43:08

Washington suggests that Jameson Williams is likely not the second option in the Lions' passing game, casting doubt on his role relative to other teammates.

Insight page

Jared Goff

PositiveProjection38:05

Washington recommends pairing a late-round flier with Jared Goff for consistent weekly production of 250 yards and two touchdowns.

Insight page

Javonte Williams

NegativeValue40:15

Washington suggests that when choosing between Javonte Williams and Josh Allen, the decision should be easy, favoring the elite quarterback over the running back.

Insight page

Jayden Daniels

PositiveProjection15:02

The Washington offense is viewed as improved due to a solid offensive line and the addition of Stefon Diggs, which increases the fantasy outlook for Jayden Daniels. The team has invested in key pieces like Josh Connerly Jr. and Laramie Tunsil, creating a more stable environment for the rookie quarterback.

Insight page
NegativeValue42:47

Jayden Daniels' draft value is highly platform-dependent; he may be worth a 4th-round pick on Yahoo, but the analysts advise against taking him that early on Sleeper if better value options like Kyler Murray are available later.

Insight page
PositiveProjection60:20

Jayden Daniels is a desirable quarterback target, though the analysts expect him to be drafted early and potentially unavailable in many leagues.

Insight page
PositiveValue108:49

Jayden Daniels is a highly desirable quarterback target in the fourth round, especially following the addition of Stefon Diggs.

Insight page

Jonah Coleman

PositiveBreakout93:43

Jonah Coleman is a sleeper candidate who is expected to become the starting running back for the Broncos by the end of the season. He is described as a versatile, big-bodied back capable of goal-line work, receiving, and blocking.

Insight page

Jordan Mason

PositiveValue93:28

Jordan Mason is a cheap, boring player who is projected to lead the Vikings in carries and touches, including goal-line work, allowing for more aggressive roster builds elsewhere.

Insight page

Josh Allen

NegativeValue39:30

Washington warns that finding Josh Allen at a bargain price is rare because quarterbacks consistently go earlier than expected in drafts.

Insight page
PositiveValue40:15

Washington explicitly prefers Josh Allen over Javonte Williams, emphasizing the importance of taking elite quarterbacks when the comparison feels lopsided.

Insight page

Josh Downs

PositiveRole101:53

Josh Downs is an interesting target with the Colts, as he may inherit a larger target volume with Michael Pittman gone and Alec Pierce currently injured.

Insight page

Josh Jacobs

PositiveValue39:53

Washington highlights Josh Jacobs as a player who fits the criteria of being a dominant force at his position, making him a preferred draft target.

Insight page
PositiveValue40:04

Washington identifies Josh Jacobs as a player who provides significant value and stands out above his peers.

Insight page

Justin Fields

NegativeBust37:19

Washington references Justin Fields' past season as a cautionary tale of a quarterback who struggled to complete passes and was benched.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

NegativeProjection36:58

Washington includes Justin Herbert among the group of quarterbacks they are comfortable drafting in the mid-to-late rounds.

Insight page
PositiveProjection60:14

Justin Herbert is identified as a comfortable quarterback target for fantasy managers who are waiting on the position.

Insight page

Keaton Mitchell

PositiveSleeper95:39

Keaton Mitchell is highlighted as an upside player to target late in drafts.

Insight page

Kyle Pitts

PositiveBreakout45:21

Washington identifies Kyle Pitts as an outlier profile among tight ends this year, distinguishing him from the standard middle-tier options that typically provide little value over waiting.

Insight page
NegativeProjection46:00

Kyle Pitts is cited as the benchmark for the best tight end prospect ever at the time of his entry into the league.

Insight page

Kyler Murray

NegativeSleeper37:14

Washington identifies Kyler Murray as a late-round quarterback target for those employing a late-round QB strategy.

Insight page
PositiveValue42:34

Kyler Murray shows a massive ADP discrepancy between platforms; he is a 9th-round pick on Yahoo (106th overall) but falls to the 14th round on Sleeper, making him a significant value target depending on the site.

Insight page

Ladd McConkey

PositiveValue43:53

Ladd McConkey is highlighted as a value target; if he is ranked 25th by analysts but 45th on a platform's draft board, taking him at 32nd is a smart value play rather than a reach.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

PositiveValue38:36

Washington notes that while their rankings place Lamar Jackson outside the top 30, they acknowledge he will likely be drafted much earlier due to market demand.

Insight page
PositiveValue39:53

Washington suggests that when drafting, you should prioritize quarterbacks or tight ends who are clearly 'mogging' the competition, explicitly citing Lamar Jackson as a player who fits this elite tier.

Insight page

Luther Burden

PositiveSleeper38:25

Luther Burden is identified as a sleeper target, though the analysts note that in sharp leagues with experienced fantasy players, he will likely be difficult to acquire at a discount because other managers are also tracking him.

Insight page

Malik Willis

NegativeSleeper37:14

Washington suggests Malik Willis as a true late-round quarterback flier, noting that if he fails, managers can pivot to streaming.

Insight page
NegativeSleeper61:57

Malik Willis is mentioned as a potential late-round quarterback option for those employing a true late-round strategy, though he carries significant risk of being benched if his passing efficiency is poor.

Insight page

Mark Andrews

NegativeValue47:35

Mark Andrews is presented as a floor-based alternative to drafting younger, higher-upside tight ends, available in later rounds.

Insight page

Matthew Stafford

PositiveProjection37:01

Washington views Matthew Stafford as a consistent late-round quarterback target who can provide reliable production.

Insight page

Mike Evans

NegativeProjection23:48

Mike Evans is mentioned in the context of the 49ers' aging roster, with the analysts jokingly debating his biological age versus his actual age of 32.

Insight page
PositiveValue38:53

Mike Evans is recommended as a target in competitive leagues because he is viewed as a 'boring' or 'older' player, causing him to sit at the top of draft trackers while others overlook him.

Insight page

Nico Collins

PositiveProjection100:13

Nico Collins has immense upside; if C.J. Stroud performs well, Collins could have a breakout season.

Insight page

Parker Washington

NegativeSleeper38:46

Parker Washington is noted as a player that league-mates in competitive, diehard fantasy leagues will be fully aware of, making him difficult to target as a hidden sleeper.

Insight page

Pat Bryant

PositiveSleeper95:27

Pat Bryant is a receiver who could emerge as a starter by the end of the year, potentially filling a role similar to Michael Thomas's rookie season.

Insight page

Quentin Johnston

PositiveValue102:16

Quentin Johnston is a solid bet at his current ADP. He is a freak athlete who could see significant production in the Chargers' offense, potentially operating in a 1A/1B role alongside Ladd McConkey.

Insight page

Rhamondre Stevenson

PositiveValue93:22

Rhamondre Stevenson is considered an undervalued player who is expected to see a high volume of work.

Insight page

Ricky Pearsall

NegativeInjury20:58

Ricky Pearsall is dealing with an injury that keeps him off the field, leading to a cynical take that his absence is negligible because he has not been a consistent presence for the 49ers anyway.

Insight page

RJ Harvey

NegativeRole93:56

There is a misunderstanding of the Denver backfield; R.J. Harvey is viewed as a Darren Sproles-type player rather than an Alvin Kamara-type.

Insight page

Rome Odunze

PositiveBreakout40:33

Washington suggests Rome Odunze could be something special this year, making him a compelling option even when compared to a quarterback like Brock Purdy.

Insight page

Sam LaPorta

PositiveValue43:02

Washington argues Sam LaPorta is a strong value pick who could be the sneaky number two option in a high-scoring offense projected to score the third-most points in the league. LaPorta is a better bet than mid-tier running backs like RJ Harvey, Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, or Tony Pollard because he has the potential to reach 14-15 fantasy points per game, which functions as a league-winning low-end RB1 profile.

Insight page
NegativeProjection46:04

Sam LaPorta is referenced as a historical outlier for rookie tight end production, specifically regarding his target rate.

Insight page

Stefon Diggs

PositiveValue3:54

Stefon Diggs is a strong value target in the late 80s to early 90s range of drafts. Despite being 32, he remains highly productive, ranking 5th in first downs per route run last year, a metric that correlates strongly with fantasy success. He is a better target than players like Chris Godwin, Courtland Sutton, or Michael Pittman, and possesses 'league-winning' upside for his current ADP.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

NegativeRole5:08

Terry McLaurin remains the WR1 in Washington despite the addition of Stefon Diggs. The arrival of Diggs is viewed as a positive for the overall offense, potentially opening up more opportunities for McLaurin by providing a competent receiving threat to draw coverage, rather than taking away significant volume.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

NegativeValue40:04

Washington uses Tony Pollard as an example of a player who does not necessarily pass the 'eye test' for elite dominance when compared to top-tier draft options.

Insight page
NegativeValue40:08

Washington compares Tony Pollard to Jalen Hurts in the context of draft decision-making.

Insight page

Travis Etienne

NegativeUsage92:30

There is potential for Basial Tootin to cut into Travis Etienne's workload in Jacksonville, specifically by taking carries or passing-down work.

Insight page

Trevor Lawrence

NegativeProjection36:58

Trevor Lawrence is identified by Washington as part of the tier of quarterbacks that are acceptable targets in the mid-to-late rounds.

Insight page
PositiveValue40:21

Washington prefers Trevor Lawrence over Courtland Sutton, advising drafters to take the quarterback when the choice feels obvious.

Insight page
PositiveProjection60:14

Trevor Lawrence is a comfortable quarterback target who has consistently ranked among the top five in rushing fantasy points per game over the last few years.

Insight page

Trey McBride

PositiveUsage42:22

Washington notes that Trey McBride is one of the few tight ends who met the 30-route-per-game threshold last season, aligning with traits of successful fantasy tight ends.

Insight page
PositiveValue58:53

Trey McBride is a preferred tight end target if he falls to the third round; the analysts prefer him over receivers like Chris Olave or George Pickens in that range due to his positional advantage.

Insight page

Tucker Kraft

PositiveBreakout46:49

Tucker Craft is a high-upside target around pick 70 who looked like the next George Kittle before his ACL injury; he has recovered well and faces minimal target competition in Green Bay.

Insight page
NegativeValue107:07

There is a bias toward drafting Tucker Kraft, but he may be reaching a point where he is overpriced compared to previous seasons.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

PositiveValue46:11

Tyler Warren is a strong value target who could potentially serve as the number one option in his team's passing game, especially given the injury status of Alec Pierce.

0:23For The Ringer Fantasy Football Show, my name is Danny Heifetz.
0:26I'm joined by Danny Kelly and Craig Horlbeck. And today we are going to talk draft strategy for this year.
0:31We're just going to tell you what to do and who to take because at the end of the day, that's kind of all it is.
0:39And we're going to actually just tell you strategies and then we'll just give you names.
0:43And that sounds about right, right? Yeah. And Heifetz will provide his phone number so when you're actually drafting and you have
0:49a question, you can just call him. I feel like half the battle with being a fantasy analyst is just people just want someone to blame.
0:56So like sit start advice. It's like, I don't know what to do.
1:00So you tell me what to do. And that way I can get mad at you if it's wrong.
1:05We should set up a fire number that you can send, you can take a picture of your drafts and be like, what grade would you give it?
1:13And we just automatically text back A plus. Yeah.
1:15Wow. You crushed it. You got him then? Damn.
1:18I do think historically, if you draft off of our rankings, you get a terrible grade in like whether it's Yahoo or ESPN or whatever.
1:25We're just different. Yeah. Against that site's rankings. And we're like, don't use the site.
1:29So the site's going to hate your draft. Yeah.
1:31But that's the point. So the people get upset.
1:34It's a rite of passage if you listen to our show.
1:37We're going to get a draft strategy and then the end of the show, we're going to have Bill Simmons on.
1:43So Bill Simmons is going to come on. We don't know why.
1:46He just said, I have to talk to you guys about something at the end of your show.
1:51So classic Bill saying, you don't know what the segment is, but I'm going to come on and we're like, okay.
1:57Really? Cool. All right. So we're going to get into that and some news.
2:01Stefan Diggs signed with Washington. But first we're going to take a quick break.
2:05This episode is presented by Verizon. Let me tell you all about Verizon's new simplicity plan.
2:09You get one plan, one price, just $30 a line per month, even for a single line.
2:14So while everyone is running for trade analyzers before offering a backup tight end, Verizon said one plan, one price.
2:19Sometimes the simplest move is the best one, like the simplicity plan.
2:23Head to Verizon.com today. For new customers, $30 per line includes auto pay and switch discount.
2:27Additional taxes, fees and terms apply. Unlimited data is restricted to on device smartphone usage.
2:31Domestic data roaming at 2G speed. All right. Coming back.
2:34Draft strategy, Bill Simmons. But first, Stefan Diggs signed with Washington Commanders.
2:37Brandon Ayuk kind of blew that one. Felting knees in a Walmart.
2:41They asked Adam Peters, the GM of Washington, if they ever take social media into account with signing a player.
2:46And he said, oh, yeah, usually not. No. Yeah.
2:49He was like one word, one little phrase at the very end where he was like, usually, usually not.
2:54So the Washington side, Stefan Diggs. I mean, it's interesting to me for the NFC East and for fantasy in general.
3:00But I'm curious. We have to. We purposely did not talk.
3:03Where do you guys want to rank Diggs? We kind of avoided doing it until he signed.
3:08So now that he's on Washington, obviously, Terry McLaurin's the number one and Diggs is two.
3:12DK, where do you want to put Diggs in our rankings at fantasyfootball.deter.com?
3:16I don't know. I think he's probably in. He's probably honestly not that far behind Terry McLaurin now.
3:21I don't know what he does to McLaurin. I think he does drop McLaurin down a little bit.
3:26But I do. I do think he can still play.
3:28You know what I mean? Like, and he's been pretty much everywhere he's gone.
3:32He's been productive and he's elevated the quarterback play.
3:35You know, you can talk about his personality and whether that wears on people.
3:39He's kind of moved around a lot in the league.
3:41Why? Because of the four teams in four years?
3:44Yeah. So he's a little bit of like a mercenary at receiver.
3:47But everywhere he goes, he like I said, he raises the floor.
3:50I feel like of the quarterback and he's probably going to be productive.
3:54So whether that's like, I don't know, in the 80s, where do you guys think?
3:58Like just off the top of my head, I'm like somewhere in the 80s, maybe.
4:02Yeah. Looking around. I do agree. I think 80s.
4:05I basically was like, which guys here looking at fantasy pros ADP?
4:08Like what? I'd take Stefan Diggs over. I'm looking at Chris Godwin at 91.
4:12I'm like, I think I know Stefan Diggs. Would you rather have Cortland Sutton?
4:16It's exactly where he is. I don't know. Michael Pittman.
4:19I'm like, give me Stefan Diggs. Yeah. I think like the 80s, I'm starting to look at Alec Pierce, Jordan Tyson, Parker Washington.
4:25Then I start to slow down. So I think around the late 80s, early 90s range.
4:30Dude, Diggs, there's a world where Diggs is still really good.
4:33And when he was in Buffalo, he was like a perennial, like borderline first round pick, early second round pick.
4:38Like he was up there with CeeDee Lamb and these guys at the end of the first round for when he was in Buffalo.
4:45He's not quite that good anymore, but if you just look at the rate stats, like the ones that matter and yards
4:51per route run and then first downs per route run.
4:54First downs per route run is my favorite receiving stat and probably the best one.
4:58It's also just makes sense. Like how often is a guy getting a first down?
5:02It's like a perfect test receiver. And it also perfectly translates to fantasy football.
5:06Stefan Diggs was fifth last year in first downs per route run.
5:09And the list is like so matches the eyeball test.
5:12First receivers last year in first downs per route run were Puka Nakua was number one.
5:16JSN was number two. Zay Flowers was three. Amon Ross St.
5:19Brown's four. And then it's Stefan Diggs is five.
5:22CeeDee Lamb six. Drake London seven. George Pickens eight.
5:24Nico Collins nine. Jalen Waddell 10. Jamar Chase was 11.
5:27Terry McLaurin 12. George Kittle is 13. Like that totally adds up.
5:30Yeah. And then Diggs is top five and top 10 in yards per route run and first downs per route run everything.
5:37I'm like he's going to run more routes because he was coming off the ACL last year.
5:41That was him coming off of an injury as well.
5:44So and we should say he played all 17 games last year.
5:47He caught 85 balls for a thousand yards for touchdowns.
5:50He tore his ACL in 2024 half or through the season at age 31 or almost 31 I think and came back played a full season.
5:57He'll be 33 in November. She probably has to factor that in a little bit.
6:01Sure. But yeah to me I see him more productive.
6:04Well if you like it. I do productive for fantasy.
6:07Yeah you're right. He's 32 if I. Yeah right.
6:1033 November if you don't like Stefan. I lean towards this is better for Washington than it is like he's a great
6:16fantasy asset now because they rounded out a pretty thin receiving crew there outside of McLaurin and like their rookie Antonio Williams digs slots in really nicely.
6:23I don't I don't know. This doesn't jump out to me.
6:26I feel like he's a he's a flex player.
6:29Yeah. At best to me. I think he's going to be ranked where we're talking about him in every platform.
6:34Like I think he's going to be around like Michael Wilson and the Cardinals and like Michael Pittman and the Steelers.
6:40He's way better than those guys and I he's a player I want like I don't know if I want him on
6:46the Giants in real life because he's a seems like a volatile guy.
6:50But what's one more though you know for the Giants who cares dude you don't like the Odell Braxton Berrios Juju Smith
6:56Schuster competition for the last roster spot. No I think digs he's the exact kind of player I think you should you
7:02should throw a dart at and kind of one of the things we're going to talk about today which is upside and
7:08like Ryan Heath wrote this great article of fantasy points about upside and how upside wins championships and just the idea of
7:14league winning players and we talk about that article Tristan Cockroft writes at ESPN every year of just usually like 20 ish
7:20players that just taking them doubles your chances of making the playoffs just those guys or double your chances at winning a
7:26championship or if you get like a crew league winning guy like triples your chances at winning just because you had them and they had a great season.
7:34Diggs could be one of those 20 man. I just he still has it.
7:38And that's the thing with receivers is like they kind of maintain the level of play longer than you think and then
7:44when they drop off it's like a cliff. But it's not like the slow gradual decline you imagine.
7:49It's kind of like you're good you're good you're good you're good and then you're kind of out of the league and it's I don't know.
7:56It's tough because this group around the 80s and 90s is like either like kind of veterans that have a really low ceiling but maybe a high floor.
8:04I'm talking about like the Cortland Sutton's the Chris Godwin's and the DK Metcalf's.
8:08But then you have like the ceiling is the roof guys where you have like Jordan Tyson sitting there at 86.
8:14Like I would rather have Jordan Tyson than Stephon Diggs I think for what he could be or like Parker Washington sitting there at 87 at NADP.
8:21Even a guy like Alec Pierce who's kind of has a really wide range of outcomes.
8:26I think I would take Diggs over the like Cortland Sutton's and DK Metcalf's but I'd probably rather have like Jordan Tyson and Parker Washington.
8:32Yeah chase the ceiling a little bit more. Yeah.
8:35I think there's also a lot of variance with a lot of these guys like Alec Pierce probably have a lot of
8:41variance week in and week out in terms of like what he's scoring.
8:45His ending his ending stat line probably will look good but it's going to like his points are probably going to come in bunches.
8:51I would say the same for like Michael Wilson.
8:54So yeah it's definitely I mean this is fascinating from a football point of view too.
8:58Like I do think this raises the the ceiling of the whole offense in Washington.
9:02So that's that's another variable that we have to like put together here and it's like does this make like does this change your opinion on Jaden Daniels?
9:10Like does that raise him up a little bit?
9:13Does he pass anybody or is it kind of just status quo?
9:16I think the real life Washington offense. I think the thing about Washington is their offensive lines better than you think and
9:22maybe people don't think about their offensive line at all but they've quietly invested like quite a bit into it because the right tackle of Josh Connerly Jr.
9:30He's like a first run pick out of Oregon.
9:32Cliff Kingsbury's legacy there other than Jaden will be having that guy.
9:36They have Laramie Tunstall at left tackle and then one of the best left tackles.
9:40Yeah. Yeah. They have a random guy named Chris Paul that's actually become a pretty good left guard that I used to joke about being Chris Paul.
9:47He's actually really good and then Sam Cosby is coming towards ACL a couple years ago but I mean he's a good right guard.
9:54They have a good line and then Jaden Daniels.
9:56I really still believe in fully and then now you've McLaurin and Diggs and I just think Diggs is going to play
10:02more because they had him on a snap count off the ACL.
10:06I actually think this is a really good offense so I am more willing to take Jaden Daniels and I don't move
10:12Terry McLaurin down that much because I think that what you lose in volume to him I think that the competent the
10:18players around Terry were bad last year and I mean when Terry got hurt dude it's been at the stat that five
10:24players for Washington caught passes last year that were not on the team when week one began.
10:29That's crazy. That's wild. Yeah. And so I don't know.
10:32I think that it'll open up the offense for Terry more than it will take away to be honest.
10:37I don't need to move him down. It's a nice.
10:40So I think this is good. Yeah, I agree.
10:42The other thing I want to hit do this 49er substation thing.
10:45It's broken contained. I swear to God. This is the biggest story in the NFL.
10:50Kyle you check broke his finger. The other receiver they have.
10:53I can't never pronounce his name. Jacob Cowan. Yeah, I think that's right.
10:56So they're down five receivers now and they're fullback and then George Kittle tours Achilles.
11:00So they're down like 10 skill players in eight days.
11:03Every time the substation just gets bigger every time.
11:06There's literally a meme where somebody makes the substation larger.
11:08It looms larger in the distance every time there's an injury.
11:11Did you guys ever see the fifth element? I feel like we've talked about this, but like the fifth element.
11:17I have not seen the fifth element. The alien scary thing that they're going against.
11:21If you shoot stuff into it, it just gets bigger and more powerful.
11:25Like it like takes the kinetic energy of your weapons.
11:27I think the substation is just absorbing these injuries and it's making him more powerful.
11:32Every time you look. You don't know if the substation.
11:34Him or her. They. Yeah. I feel like pretty soon we're going to see in the background a Mordor looking volcano happening.
11:41That is the meme of it. It's just like, wow, this is going to get out of control.
11:45It's just the eye of Sauron is overlooking. It's so funny.
11:49Dude, the art, but make it sports. Did a thing on it, too.
11:52It's like, dude, I think that's the best one they've ever done.
11:55That was unbelievable. My brother is my painting as hell.
11:58It's actually just called hell. They got me the art, but make it sports as a book and they got it for me for Christmas.
12:05And I might print that one out. They put it into the book for him.
12:09All timer. I think the question for the Niners right now, or I guess the question for people who are thinking about
12:15the 49ers from a fantasy perspective is, are you just fully out now?
12:19Is it over? Is this enough? Are you ready to sit out this season with San Francisco because of the vibe?
12:25Because they're a head coach, almost died in a car accident and has a severe concussion.
12:2920 guys were missing practice the other day because they were injured already and it's early August.
12:34Is it? And the only healthy guy is a 29 year old running back who had bilateral Achilles tendonitis.
12:39Are you just out? What else do you need to see to be out?
12:43How many versions need to be thrown into this volcano until you're like, you know what?
12:48I'm not going to be on this team. Or is it a buy love?
12:51It's early August. I feel like this is the Zach.
12:54Maybe things will be all right. Yeah. I mean, the Pearsall thing is not great.
12:58Like losing one of your top skill players immediately just because for no reason at all.
13:03The thing about Pearsall being out is I feel like he's never been in, you know?
13:07So it's like when I think of the night.
13:10Like how can you miss someone that you've never met?
13:12Dude, the healthiest player. He's never on the field anyway.
13:15So what? Did we really miss him? Austin's with Embiid.
13:18It's like that's boy math. Boy math is, well, Joel Embiid barely plays anyway.
13:22So it's really all gravy if you think about it.
13:25We never had him. How could I miss him?
13:27Yeah. We can't be so back if it was never over.
13:30I just, I don't know how many omens I need, but I have enough.
13:34I just. That famous tweet where it's like tarot card reading lady flips over a card and it's a hot air balloon running into some electrical wires.
13:42And I'm like, is that bad? Like that's the 49ers season thus far.
13:45Well, this actually dovetails nicely into the conversation because does this mean we talked about how we want to take quarterbacks late this year.
13:52Is Brock Purdy off the board for you guys now?
13:55You're just like, I don't want to be up.
13:57I don't want to be in Northern California. I'm a fan.
14:00If I'm being honest, a little. Yeah. Because I Brock Purdy is a video game controller for Kyle Shanahan to play the game through.
14:07And I'm out on. I like, honestly. Yeah. I believe in the Niners every year.
14:11And I, but I am not just going to like automatically as we have done the last seven years, be like, well,
14:17Kyle Shanahan will have a great year with this quarterback no matter what, because he was in a car crash where he
14:23almost died and he still can't read or have multiple people speak to him or listen to loud music.
14:28And also like their healthiest players now are Mike Evans at 34 and George Kittle off his Achilles.
14:33George Kittle is one of the healthier goddamn guys on this team.
14:37And now we're just adding play in week one.
14:39We're just adding years. Because he's just hanging out.
14:42Yeah. Mike Evans is 32, not 34. There's no way that's true.
14:45He's biologically. You're just adding years to Mike Evans.
14:47His biological age is much older. We got to get Brian Johnson to test Mike Evans' biological age.
14:52We should have that as a column on our rankings, age and then like biological age, like change is 29 going on 41.
14:59Look, I do think you're right. Like, I do think I just, this is not a risk worth taking this season.
15:05There's plenty of other options. Quarterback is very deep.
15:07You know, receiver is very deep. It's like, maybe I don't need to take a shot on Bernie and Mike Evans or
15:13whatever the fuck is going on in San Francisco.
15:16I just, yeah. If you want to, if you want to like play final destination with your fantasy team, I just DK,
15:22the other one I saw is that famous tweet that is so funny.
15:25That's someone who's like, I was having a conversation with my neighbor.
15:29And I explained to them that like, yeah, like we keep adopting the stray cats, but the coyotes keep coming for the stray cats.
15:35So then we keep getting new cats from the shelter and, and having the cats.
15:40And you know, it's every month, you know, the cat just keeps getting taken.
15:43And the person was like, it sounds like you're just feeding shelter cats to coyotes every month.
15:48And then he's like, and then my daughter started crying.
15:51They're like, the Niners are just feeding football players to the substation.
15:54They just opened a cafe for coyotes at their house.
15:57The substation just keeps eating players. Yeah. But the quote, okay, here's the thing though.
16:01Everyone's going to be saying that like everybody in your league at home is going to be like the Niners substation.
16:07Don't want to touch that. So everyone will probably fall.
16:10You know what I mean? Like maybe nobody will take Brock pretty, but, but how far does he need to fall before you'd be interested in them?
16:17Uh, well, if I'm taking Purdy, I'm assuming I'm trying to be the last person to take a quarterback.
16:22So I would need to be outside the first 11 rounds.
16:26Cause I don't, is there a huge difference to you between having Purdy and Bo Nix?
16:30I guess not. No. Nat with the current situation that San Francisco is experiencing.
16:34No. What do we talk about? Wait, I just.
16:36With the evil curse that is hovering over San Francisco or Santa Clara?
16:40No. Craig, what's Santa Clara like? Have you been to Santa Clara?
16:43I've never. No, I know. No one's ever been to Santa Clara.
16:47You grew up in the Bay. You grew up in the Bay Area.
16:50By the way, I just think this is hilarious.
16:53Maybe I already said this. Sorry if I did, but San Francisco, truly one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to.
16:59Like the Bay Area driving around, you're like, this place is fake.
17:02It looks so beautiful everywhere you go. Like whether you're going over.
17:06Santa Clara's not in San Francisco. You're, you know that.
17:08It's like 40 minutes away. No, I know. I'm aware.
17:11That's why I'm saying like, have you ever been there?
17:14But like, it's just so funny to me that they found the ugliest place in the fucking state to have their practice facility.
17:20It's like the inexplicable scientific phenomenon. What happened? Look, I'm not going to pretend like I know a whole lot about Santa Clara.
17:27I've driven through it. I'm sure it's in the South Bay.
17:30I've never. I don't. I didn't spend a lot of time going to the South Bay growing up.
17:35But yeah, it's just kind of there. Dude, the substation.
17:38I have six months ago when there was a Super Bowl in San Francisco.
17:41I was like, this thing's fake. Come on, people.
17:44And now I'm like, who knows? It's just growing stronger.
17:47Stronger by the day. Who knows? It's like the older you get.
17:50Stronger and larger. Religion more. Yeah. Now I'm like, you know what?
17:53Maybe there is an evil spirit. Like Marie Curie was handling radioactive stuff with her hands.
17:58You know what I mean? Sometimes we're, you know, we don't know.
18:01Anyway. Okay. Some people don't want to use like earbuds, ear pods, air pods or whatever.
18:06Like some people just want. I think about that all the time.
18:09I have air pods. Think about the power. How many air pods does this think of power?
18:14Like billions. The whole air pod corded head something.
18:16You know, I took a day and I tried to do my own research.
18:20Sure. Like my boy Rogers. It appears as though there's nothing there.
18:23That wearing air pods is actually not bad for your health.
18:26And that like whatever electromagnetic blah, blah, blah that you think you're transmitting into your brain is like so minuscule.
18:32And that like Wi-Fi routers have even more of that coming out of it.
18:36Yeah. So I don't know. The research I've read, Craig, because I did my own research as well by reading someone else's research.
18:42Yeah. Well, obviously. What am I going to do?
18:45Like what am I going to do? How's my head rot?
18:48How's my head feel after a day? Do I need to go to the moon myself or to believe we went to
18:54the moon or can I trust other people? What I read is like basically your phone emits way more waves of like
19:00potentially harmful waves, like by magnitude, orders of magnitude or whatever.
19:03And they've found that like no connection between your phone and cancer.
19:06So they're like the Bluetooth thing is not going to give you cancer.
19:10I think it's a cool like 90s early aughts vibe to like wear corded headphones.
19:14You're a headphone hipster. Yeah. It's back. Corded headphones is definitely back.
19:17100% it's back. It's like an aesthetic. It's a pain in the ass, but it's an aesthetic and that matters more.
19:23I hate wearing corded headphones. It's the worst. All right.
19:26I want to talk about fantasy strategy for this year because every now and then I just like, we do need to
19:32just tell you kind of what to do or at least how to think about it.
19:36And I want to shout out Ryan Heath at Fantasy Points.
19:39Fantasy Points, a great website. It has Scott Bear is there.
19:42Brett Whitefield's there. Ryan Heath is there. Ryan Heath, kind of like fantasy Ben Solak.
19:47I don't really know how old he is, but he's very good at his job.
19:51I don't know if he's old enough to buy.
19:53He's the one. He's a wonder kind. Yeah. A wonder kid.
19:56Babyface fantasy assassin. Yeah. Yes. Ryan Heath, the babyface fantasy assassin.
19:59He's written a bunch of great articles, Anatomy of the League Winner and Upsides Everything and all these things that Scott Barrett used to write about.
20:07But basically, again, it's the idea that it's power law where it's like, I think Scott Barrett and Ryan always talk about
20:13how they're like, yeah, fantasy is kind of like investing, but not really because there's only one person that freaking wins.
20:18Like, you know, it's like, oh, can't go broke, make it a profit.
20:22Yeah. Fourth place is the same as 10th place.
20:25Then like you can go broke, making it. It doesn't matter.
20:28The point is to come in first. So it's about Ricky Bobby players.
20:31You want guys that are like home runs. You know what I mean?
20:35Like Rob Gronkowski a few years ago might not play and retire, but also might lead tight ends and touchdowns guys like that.
20:41So anyway, I think the way that I think about this and I'm, you know, the simplest way is you can tell
20:47the story of a fantasy season every year by like 20 players, 15, 20 players, you know, and those are the guys
20:53that really mattered when there's a, there's hundreds of other guys that were there and were a part of your team, but
20:59probably didn't win you weeks, weekend and week out.
21:02And there's, there's a handful of guys who really matter every year.
21:05And trying to find those guys obviously is the hard part.
21:08But if you have one of those guys, it's like your chances of winning the whole, the whole league go up exponentially.
21:14The way Scott's tried to say it, I think sometimes it's kind of like you're trying to hit a home runs instead of singles.
21:21But imagine if a home run was worth like three, like three runs every single time.
21:26Like when you draft, you should go up trying to hit an eight run home run.
21:30Yeah. Go up and hit a nine run home run.
21:33That's the swing. Like Otani. So yeah, dude, I saw some video of Otani hitting a home run the other day.
21:39Craig. Good Lord. That guy. I can't do it.
21:41He's fucking unreal, man. Good at baseball. Uh, okay.
21:44Do we want to just lay out our strategies or anything you want to set the table with here?
21:49Or just like how to approach it or what, what do we want to do?
21:53I will say like, I think it can get a little difficult to have a broad strategy that we can recommend to everybody.
21:59It's like, we're mainly going to be talking about like, if you're in a 10 or 12 team league where you start
22:05one quarterback and you do a snake draft, that is largely the most common fantasy league.
22:10So like, that's what we're going to be sticking to.
22:13But even deeper than that, like, you know, there's PPR, there's half PPR.
22:16They're standard. That matters as well in terms of like leaning into guys who catch more passes, running backs who catch more passes.
22:23Um, but I also wanted to bring up. Say real quick on that PPR, half PPR, don't overthink it.
22:28Like for the short answer is if you're like PPR versus half PPR, don't worry about it.
22:33It's not that big of a, it's not that big of a difference.
22:36But PPR versus standard, big difference. Yes. But people don't do that anymore.
22:40People don't do zero catches for a point anymore.
22:42I feel like it's mostly half or full. Some people do.
22:45The thing is, is that know what your league's rules are.
22:48One. Two, know who is in your league. I do think this matters a lot.
22:52Like there are very, not every league is created equally.
22:55Like some leagues it's with your high school buddies for the last 15 years.
22:59You guys are diehard football fans, diehard fantasy fans.
23:02Like, you know, every single sleeper, they know every single sleeper.
23:05You listen into pods, they listen to pods. So like the guys like Luther Burden, you're not going to get a discount.
23:11You're not going to be able to sneak in and get Luther Burden in your high school league because everyone's going to be aware of him.
23:18He's probably going to go for too much. If Luther Burden comes up and there's like seven erections in the room, then
23:24it's like, okay, everyone's been listening to pods all summer.
23:27Yeah. I mean, for, for Craig is he's not going to have any Luther Burden this year.
23:32No, it sucks. It's awful. This is the sick irony of what you do for a living.
23:36All the guys, I'm going to be like a Mecca Buka, Luther Burden, all these guys I like, I'm not going to get any of them.
23:43But yeah. Um, yeah. So no sleepers are sleepers.
23:46Parker Washington, everybody in that league is aware of Parker Washington.
23:49So the boring guys, the older guys, the less sexy guys, maybe you're like your Mike Evans is, I feel like those
23:55are the names that you should probably try to go after the players that just kind of sit at the top of
24:01your draft tracker that nobody wants because they're viewed as boring.
24:04That's that kind of league. Then it's like, if you're in a work league and people want to win because it's fun
24:10for the office and they get bragging rights, but they're maybe not the biggest diehard sports fan.
24:15Like that's a whole other conversation that famous players go way earlier.
24:18Quarterbacks go way earlier. You're Josh Allen's McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, Travis Kelsey.
24:22Like you see quarterbacks going round one in those leagues, even in a single quarterback league, just because like people join the
24:28league, they play and they go, well, shit, I want to get Josh Allen.
24:32They take him 12th overall, even though that doesn't make fun to have this guy.
24:36Yes. They trust ADP more, like whatever platform you're using Yahoo or ESPN or whatever, like they will just take the people closer to the top of that.
24:44So then you kind of can get cute. Then you can wait on guys like Luther Burden who aren't that famous.
24:49So definitely know like how sharp the people in your leagues are.
24:53Cause I think it makes a huge difference in how you draft.
24:56I think that's a great call. And maybe the way we should do this is we start with just the beginning, which
25:02is start with like, try to win a work league, a league where like maybe Josh Allen's going to go with like the 13th pick.
25:09You know what I mean? And maybe we start with that and then we'll be like, okay.
25:14And then what if it's like a sharp, like a somewhat sharper league.
25:17But the other thing I just want to say, that's really important.
25:21And honestly, when people ask me or text me for advice, the thing I always start with, which is what platform are you drafting on?
25:28Like most people are on ESPN or Yahoo or a sleeper.
25:31I feel like these days is the probably 80 plus percent of drafts, but it's just know your platform.
25:36Cause at the end of the day, when the draft is happening and people are, have been measured time and time again,
25:42everyone's worse making a decision with a timer. And so people just look at the rankings in front of them.
25:48Like if you're on ESPN or you're on Yahoo, you're looking at the Yahoo window.
25:52No one wants to scroll down. People are afraid to scroll down.
25:55Even now, I still find myself being like, oh God, I can't draft this guy.
25:59He's 12 spots lower. It's been studied. That would look so bad by me.
26:03It's just so funny. It's like a psychological barrier.
26:06It is a psychological barrier. It's the same reason that people love a discount when you're shopping.
26:10People don't like the idea that you're taking a bad value.
26:13So if you're like with the 78th pick and you're looking at a guy who's ranked 88th and you have to scroll
26:19a little, even if you think that guy's ranked, like it just, it's a hurdle.
26:24So the point being understanding where certain players are ranked differently on platforms like is huge.
26:28So just to give you one example, Kyler Murray for the Vikings on Yahoo, he is a ninth round pick.
26:34He's about the 106th overall player on sleeper. Kyler Murray is a 14th round pick.
26:38He is going behind five different kickers. It's kind of wild.
26:41That's a huge discurpancy. So if you're on Yahoo, you might want to take Jaden Daniels with your fourth round pick.
26:47But if you're on sleeper, you probably don't want to take Jaden Daniels with a fourth round pick.
26:52If you can take Kyler Murray in round 13, you know what I mean?
26:55And so that is, it just understand. It's worth understanding what platform you're on.
26:59I think that. So to Craig's point, know the people you're playing with like rounders, like you play the people, but also
27:05just know what the people are going to be looking at the freaking rankings and understand where those rankings are just off from everyone else.
27:12Yeah. And along those lines, I mean, if you're motivated enough to print out some some rankings that you trust, whether that's
27:18ours, whether, you know, someone that you've had a lot of success with in the past and cross reference it.
27:24Yeah. Against the draft that's happening. It's kind of hard because it goes quick.
27:28But if you just like crossing guys off and as you get to like fifth, sixth, seventh round, you start seeing guys
27:34that are on the physical ranking in front of you, the piece of paper that are like way higher, that are kind
27:40of just staring you in the face. That's the point where you can just say, I don't really care where these guys
27:46are ranked on, you know, the list in the whatever platform you're drafting on.
27:50And you can just start scooping up really good value.
27:53Yeah. Vlad McConkie's 25th in your rankings, but he's 45th in the platforms rankings you're using.
27:57It's OK if you take him 32nd. It's not a you know, it's a reach on the platform, but it's not.
28:03It's actually a value for your ranking. That's kind of what I'm saying is like it's validation that you're not actually reaching on this player.
28:10So, yeah. Sanity check. Do you guys feel like you still actually want people to print out a piece of paper and cross it off with a pen?
28:18Yeah, I think it helps me. Honestly, I do that every every year.
28:21So here's the extra layer I'll add to our advice this year.
28:25I mean this. Figure out what your printer plan is, because now it's like a disaster plan.
28:29What are you going to do in an emergency?
28:32It's like, you know where a printer is? How are you going to print?
28:36Have you tested it? Have you plugged it in?
28:38Like, because if you don't, you're not going to print it.
28:41Does Kinko still exist? Is that a thing? You're going to drive and pay money?
28:45That's a great question, DK. I don't know. It's like Blockbuster.
28:48Staples? FedEx? Staples still, yeah. They probably just probably go to like Starbucks now and print something.
28:53I don't know. I feel like that. Do they print stuff?
28:56I don't know. I feel like they should. Honestly, that would be a draw to a coffee shop.
29:01Kind of like a hidden value there. Printers are wild, because the printers are one of the few technologies no generation ever figured them out.
29:08I know. No people are just like- What are the most challenging machines to operate of all time?
29:13Machines. It's the printer. I got one right there.
29:16It's like, I feel like I'm doing witchcraft every time I'm trying to get that thing.
29:20If somebody shows up to your house and is just like, can I print something?
29:24I'm like, fuck. We're screwed. I don't know. It's going to take us an hour.
29:28I told you there's a Trump aide that they call the human printer because he wants everything printed.
29:33He won't read anything on a screen. She has five different printers.
29:37She has to bring three of them with her at all times.
29:40It's her entire job. It's just figuring out how to print anywhere in the world.
29:44She's got a mobile printer she brings with her?
29:47That's kind of cool. Multiple mobile printers, because they all break.
29:50They're always breaking. They don't have any parts. It's like late Soviet Union.
29:53They're running out of parts. They can't fix these things.
29:56I love it. There's a few legendary Hollywood guys who are older and they don't use technology and they need to have their emails printed out.
30:03Sabin. Oh, Nick Sabin. Yeah. Nick Sabin never used email.
30:06I always find that to be just fucking fascinating.
30:08No. There's a person out there who has to print Martin Scorsese's emails.
30:12My brother always said this about every election. He's like, can I get one person running for president who's used email?

30:43Moving on. Strategy. Okay, so that's the table. Let's just like, I think the strategy, we go position by position, but in
30:49a nutshell, I think you should wait on quarterback unless an elite one kind of falls into your lap.
30:54And I feel the same way about tight end and stronger.
30:57That unless Brock Bowers or Trey McBride or Colson Loveland, or maybe Tyler Warren falls into your lap, I think you should
31:04be the last person to take a tight end and resist the urge to be the ninth and take a tight end the 10th or 11th round.
31:11And you should probably take a quarterback maybe in the 10th or 11th round, unless one of a specific group falls into your lap.
31:18And you should probably be taking five receivers in the first 10 rounds, and you should try to get one of the
31:24top 12 running backs at least, and maybe two of the top 12 running backs.
31:28So probably two running backs in the first three rounds, but at least one running back in the first three rounds.
31:34Five receivers at the first 10 rounds. And then in there, it's like, wait on quarterback, wait on running back.
31:39And you're trying to load up on running backs and receivers.
31:42And then if a great, amazing value falls to your tight end or quarterback, you can do that.
31:47Otherwise wait. And like, is that the simplest way to explain what we think about this season?
31:52I think so. I feel the most strongly about waiting on quarterback and getting running backs early.
31:57I think those are the two pillars that I'm going to follow this season.
32:01I do think this is the deepest quarterback has ever been since we started this show.
32:05So there's always the caveat of like, it shouldn't be a hard and fast rule.
32:09You got to be like nimble. When you're in a draft, shit can change and you got to figure it out.
32:15Like if Josh Allen's sitting there in the fourth round, you should probably take him.
32:19What about in the third? I was actually wondering about that while you guys, while Heifetz was laying it out, like what
32:25does that mean when they fall into your lap?
32:28So I wanted to ask you this. So I want to ask you guys, let's start with quarterback because I think on
32:34paper, we were saying you should wait on quarterback.
32:36You should wait on quarterback because there's so many good ones.
32:39And again, what it comes down to is there's so many guys that can run now that, it just.
32:45The advantage. Yeah. The advantage, the elite dual threat guys.
32:47I have a Josh Allen philosophy of when I would take him if you want it.
32:52I would. Yeah. That's exactly what I want to know.
32:55I think there's 12 running backs I want and I want two of them.
32:59I think there's an easy cliff and I think it ends right around Derrick Henry, depending on your ranking.
33:04Like it's basically the chase Brown to Kenneth Walker to Derrick Henry.
33:07That range. Is Josh Jacobs in that? Jeremiah Love in that or no?
33:11No. I think it stops right before Jeremiah Love and Josh Jacobs and Kyron Williams.
33:15So there's a top 12 starts with Jameer Gibbs and B.
33:18John. It's Jonathan Taylor, James Cook, Ashton, Jente, A.
33:20Chan Hampton, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Walker and Chase Brown.
33:24For me, I want two of those 12. If, if I have the opportunity to take either Josh Allen or one of
33:30those 12, I'm taking one of those 12. If the 12 are gone and Josh Allen is there, I would take Josh Allen roughly.
33:36I like that. Would you say this? Would you say the same about like a Brock Bowers or Trey McBride?
33:42No. Okay. I'm, I'm less keen on, on really reaching for one of them, which we can get into when we talk about tight ends.
33:49Okay. But if Brock Bowers was there in the third round, you'd take Brock Bowers, right?
33:53Third round. Absolutely. Yes. But it's like, if we're, I mean, these, these running backs I'm discussing are basically get drafted by
33:59the end of, by the middle of the second round.
34:02I don't know if I need to take Brock Bowers like 18th in my draft.
34:06I agree. So I, I, I, I have thought about it more and more.
34:10I agree about getting the running backs. And just because what it comes down to, to get Ryan Heath wrote a great
34:16article of fantasy points where it comes down to running backs in the second running backs early, generally are the guys that
34:22can break your league and like getting Ash and Jensie, getting chase Brown guys that can catch a ton of passes or
34:29run for a lot of touchdowns and hopefully high scoring offenses or offenses that score more than you think you a league winning player.
34:35The way Ryan defined it, which I thought was smart was basically, are you scoring five points more per game than we
34:41kind of thought you would based on where you went, which is a shorthand of being like, are you kind of getting
34:47almost the equivalent of a touchdown per week in value more than we thought?
34:51Not literally a touchdown, but the equivalent of six points, five points, six points.
34:55And you probably need to catch a lot of passes in the participation trophy PPR leagues, or you need to score a lot of rushing touchdowns.
35:02So that's like Derrick Henry on the Ravens team that I, the Ravens don't a good example of the Ravens.
35:08I don't think play a playoff team from last year to like November.
35:11So the Ravens, I mean, they could start nine and one and have all these Derrick Henry game scripts and you need
35:18something like that, or you need chase Brown catching a ton of dump offs from Joe Burrow or Ashton Gentty catching a
35:24ton of dump offs from Kirk cousins. And that is kind of why we feel so strong about these early running backs.
35:30But having said that, yeah, Bowers doesn't fall to me.
35:33And like, if those running backs Craig are gone, that I do want Brock Bowers and maybe Trey McBride solely.
35:38Cause I do feel like I kind of like them a little more than the receivers in the third round where I
35:44feel weird taking like Chris Olave or George Pickens over Trey McBride when I'm Trey McBride has it.
35:49Even though I don't love the Cardinals, the idea that Trey McBride could just be better than them at the tight end spot kind of makes me queasy.
35:57You know what I mean? Yeah. The thing you want to get them to tight ends.
36:01I feel like we all agree about quarterback. It's like, yeah, well, no, the quarterback, I want to name the players though.
36:07So we're like, oh, we'll wait on quarterback. My question is that the players that I'm looking at are Jalen hurts kind
36:14of like, like, like I want Jalen hurts, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Herbert.
36:17I'm perfectly comfortable with those guys to be my quarterback.
36:20Jaden Daniels, if he falls, but I feel like he won't.
36:23And I basically there's like Jalen hurts. Who's been like the tush push.
36:26If they bring it back, you could just have 15 rushing touchdowns in theory.
36:30And it is highest ceiling thing. And he's going 70th.
36:33Trevor Lawrence, I think has like some of the top five, most rushing fantasy points per game last few years.
36:38Like he can run way more than you think Herbert.
36:41Like you just need someone who can run, but one of those guys will fall.
36:45Yeah. Like I basically am thinking like there's the top six guys, which I think everybody generally has is Josh Allen, Lamar,
36:51Drake, Joe Burrow, Jaden Daniels and hurts. I'm comfortable getting the bottom six, like Caleb Dak, Dart, Herbert, Lawrence, Stafford darts, maybe
36:58a little bit risky, but like Caleb Dak, Prescott, Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence.
37:01I don't know. You could weave in Bo Nix, Brock, Pretty Stafford.
37:05Like I'm, I'm totally fine with any, most of those guys.
37:08I think if you, if you wanted to wait even past that and just do the real true late round quarterback process
37:14or strategy that was popular, you know, six or seven years ago, to me, it's Malik Willis or Kyler late.
37:19And then if, if those guys don't work out, if, if, if Malik Willis has like a Justin Fields type of season
37:25where he just can't complete a pass and he's benched by week seven, so be it.
37:30Then you can stream after that. I mean, Daniel Jones, Jacoby Brissett, I was looking at this.
37:34They're, they're scoring from last year. Obviously Jones coming off a major injury, but you know, they were, they were basically averaging
37:41one to two points less per game than the guys who are ranked six to 12 last year in terms of like,
37:47yeah, so it's like you're losing a point or two a game on average and you can just stream based on, on matchup or whoever.
37:54And there's, there's, especially in one quarterback leagues, obviously this is different than super flex, but you know, I, I do think
38:00you can probably get away with streaming if, if, if your late round pick doesn't work at quarterback.
38:05I feel like if, if you want to take a guy like Malik Willis, I think you need to chase it with like a Jared Goff.
38:12Yeah. Stafford. A hundred percent. Or Stafford. I mean, if Stafford's still there, absolutely.
38:16Yeah. Um, even like a darn working out. Yeah.
38:18It's like, and you want somebody consistent and you just plug in Jared Goff, get you two 50 yards and two touchdowns every week.
38:25Yeah. Here's the key question to me though. Cause we actually are higher on the quarterbacks than a lot of these platforms.
38:31Cause here's the question. I think we're talking about like, again, like, like an office league or something.
38:36Yahoo and ESPN have it like where Lamar Jackson's like the 50th player.
38:40The second quarterback will be the 50th player. And in my experience, there's no way that that happens.
38:45Like there's no way that 10 or 12 teams are going to go four rounds and one person of a quarterback.
38:50I think quarterbacks always go up higher. Yeah. And so I think it, even though we're higher than other platforms on quarterbacks,
38:56it's weird because I'm wondering if we should move our quarterbacks back or if we kind of reflect like more really like
39:03what it's actually going to look like. You know what I mean?
39:06Uh, that's like the one question I have is because we're like, Oh wait, but realistically, like we have Lamar Jackson, like outside the top 30.
39:13Uh, but I also don't think you'll get him at that spot if that makes sense.
39:17So I think that's the, the question is like, it's, it's weird because whatever site you're on, I just, the quarterbacks are
39:24going to, I think people will be scrolling and kind of picking them.
39:27They always go earlier. There are quarterbacks always go earlier.
39:30If you think you're going to be able to get Lamar or Josh Allen at a bargain, it's rare that you can
39:36do that, which is why I think our rankings almost reflect like the reality of when they go.
39:41I think that the way I, it's funny too, to be like, well, we'll just wait until they're a good value.
39:47I don't know what that means, but I, the way I think of it for you guys is I need the quarterback
39:53or tight end to be mogging the other people around them.
39:56Right. And like, I can't explain it, but the point is like, it needs to get, we need like Lamar Jackson or like Luther Byrd or Josh Jacobs.
40:04You're like, oh man, that's a good question. But when it's like Jalen Hurts or Tony Pollard.
40:08A hundred percent. I'm like, it's just like the, the, the, the, the eye tests, like taste in your mouth comparison where
40:15you're just like, do you want Javante Williams or Josh Allen?
40:18At a certain point, you're like, fuck it. I'd rather just have Josh Allen.
40:21Trevor Lawrence or Cortland Sutton. Well, sure. I'm like, give me Trevor Lawrence.
40:25And I think that's like, it should feel, you, it feel very easy to be like, oh my God, this guy is so much better than that.
40:33But if you're like, oh, Brock Purdy or Roma Dunze, you're like, well, maybe Roma Dunze actually could be something special this year.
40:39But I think that's great. It's kind of like a, not a hard and fast rule.
40:43It's just kind of like a, say the two names out loud.
40:47Say the two names out loud. And if you feel silly for, and if you're like, would I ask another person that,
40:53or would I feel silly, then that's when you take the quarterback?
40:56Yeah. Which, and I think, I actually feel that way about the tight ends too, where it's like Brock Bowers or O'Mearian
41:02Hampton or Brock Bauer, you know what I mean?
41:05And you're like, you should probably take O'Mearian Hampton.
41:07You have to think about it. But when it's like Brock Bowers or Devante Smith.
41:11Yeah. I'm like, well, shit, Brock Bowers could just do Devante Smith's numbers.
41:15Give me Brock Bowers. And that's how I feel about the tight ends.
41:19Colston Loveland or, I mean, yeah, Derrick Henry could be a real thing.
41:22I'm like, give me Derrick Henry. Colston Loveland or Garrett Wilson.
41:25I'm like, I don't want to watch the Jets.
41:28I want to watch the Bears. Yeah. Tight end every year to me is just the most fascinating position because everybody tries to figure it out, myself included.
41:35You want to be the genius. You get sucked in by the tight end five, even though he's probably just going to score nine points.
41:42Like the tight end 15. Ryan Heath, again, at Fantasy Points, when he mapped out tight end, he went through basically like,
41:48all right, what are the most common traits for the tight ends on your playoff roster?
41:53So he basically looked at like the most common tight ends on over 50% of playoff rosters.
41:58And he had like six main points, which was that, okay, these quote unquote league winning tight ends in a given year always had these qualities.
42:05Got over eight targets a game. The year before that, they averaged five to seven targets a game.
42:10Oh, interesting. Yeah. Half of them were in year two of their career, which is like very specific.
42:15Like out of every other year combined, it was 50% and then year two, 50%.
42:19They ran around 30 routes per game, which is a lot.
42:22Only McBride and Bowers did that last year and Colston Loveland over the last few games.
42:26They're on offenses that do not have multiple other pass catchers going in the top 60 ADP.
42:31And they're on teams that score 25 points a game, like just straight up offenses, not fantasy, like real life good teams.
42:37And so it's an intriguing list and it kind of allows you to go through and like look at who qualifies, who checks what boxes.
42:44And I have to say, unfortunately, fellas, like I know that we're saying like it's McBride or Bowers or wait.
42:50I am sucked in by the sirens of like the top six or seven.
42:54I'm like kind of like, fuck, there are guys here I like.
42:57And I would take a gamble, to be honest.
42:59Like I can get into a few if you want.
43:02Like to me, looking at a guy like Sam Laporta, who might be the sneaky number two option in the passing game.
43:08I don't think it's Jameson Williams, but you could argue it's Jameer Gibbs, but he's on a super high scoring offense.
43:14They're projected to score the third most points in the league.
43:17They have an easy schedule. He's young. He's done it before.
43:20His offensive coordinator is Drew Petsing, who just did with in Arizona, what with Trey McBride for the last two years.
43:26And I'm looking at ADP with Sam Laporta. Here are the guys Sam Laporta is going around.
43:31Let's do the name test. Sam Laporta or RJ Harvey, Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, Tony Pollard.
43:35But to me, I'm like, I would rather take a risk on Sam Laporta, who had 10 touchdowns his rookie season.
43:41And in a way that Ryan kind of mapped it out, which I thought was very interesting, is he was like, basically look at it this way.
43:48When you're considering taking a tight end, just treat them like a running back and be like, what are the odds that
43:54they can score 14 or 15 fantasy points a game?
43:57Whoever you think is more likely to do that, you should just take that person because there's no reason why you should be treating them differently.
44:04And 14 to 15 points is like a low end RB1.
44:07That's like probably closer to like a league winning type guy when you take them this late in the draft.
44:13So when I'm looking at Sam Laporta versus RJ Harvey, I'm like, who do I think is more likely to have a
44:19season where they score 14 points a game? I'm like, fuck it.
44:22Maybe I just take Sam Laporta. Yeah. Tight ends weird this year because I think another thing that in the past that
44:29has worked is the worst bets you can make in fantasy are usually you're like, you don't get one of the first
44:35six tight ends or maybe you don't get the first eight.
44:38And you're like trying to force that be like, oh, who's the ninth best tight end?
44:42Who's like that like lower middle tier of like, you know, like I always think of it as like David and Joku, Evan Engram, wherever they were going.
44:50And you're like, well, I'll take Tim because I don't have a tight end.
44:54Yeah. Like if you, if you map it out, it sounds crazy to be like, well, I got the eighth best tight end instead of the 16th.
45:01That sounds good. But in reality, the difference is the eighth best tight end and the 16th best tight end is like less than a point per game.
45:09Like it doesn't matter. And you should just wait.
45:11The weird thing about doing that this year is you're like, well, in the past, it's going to work.
45:17But now this year, but you look and the group this year is Kyle Pitts, who is unlike any other tight end,
45:23Sam Laporta, who had one of the better rookie year tight ends ever.
45:26And then Harold Fannin, who on a like, dude, there is an incredible stat from Ian Harditz at fantasy life.
45:32That if you just sort by like receivers, pass catchers with like missed tackles forced, the best marks from the last five
45:38years are just Debo Samuel three times and Harold Fannin.
45:41And he had like the most cat. He had like one of the most hits, one of the five most targets or
45:47I think target rate for a rookie tight end ever.
45:50So it's like all these like crazy outlier profiles are in that spot.
45:53Now Harold Fannin had the, one of the best, he led all of college football in yard in what yards per route run.
46:00You have Kyle Pitts is the best tight end prospect ever at the time.
46:04And then Sam Laporta. And it's like, well, and then you look at the, it's like 50% of league winning tight ends are year two of their career.
46:11You're staring down the barrel at Harold Fannin, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland.
46:15Yeah. And you're like, man, I've come around to Loveland.
46:18I mean, Loveland's going to be, I think, awesome.
46:20He's just going really early. He's really creeping up.
46:23So if you do the name test with Colston Loveland, it gets tricky.
46:26But a guy like Tyler Warren, you're like, man, look at the options around him.
46:30It's like, you have a banged up Alec Pierce.
46:33This guy might be the number one option in the passing game.
46:36You know, it's his second year in the league.
46:39The ADP, it's like, he's going around guys like Tootin, Swift, David Montgomery.
46:42Who do you think is more likely straight up to just score more points per game?
46:47Tyler Warren or David Montgomery? You make that bet.
46:49Another guy is like Tucker Craft, who's going around 70th in drafts.
46:53Tucker Craft, before he got hurt last year, looked like he was going to be the next George Kittle.
46:58And he tore his ACL. He's recovered well from it.
47:01He apparently looks great. And he's on a good offense.
47:03I would say the competition around him is not obvious.
47:06It's not like there's clear Jamar Chase's around Tucker Craft and Green Bay.
47:10And you look at the guys going around him around 70th.
47:13It's like Tucker Craft or Jadarian Price. Tucker Craft or Jalen Warren.
47:16Tucker Craft or RJ Harvey. I don't know. I'm a little intrigued by like the top seven tight ends.
47:21And I'm probably falling right into the trap. But it's, I do think this year, the top seven are like younger and
47:27hungrier and sexier than usual, I think. And you can make a better case for them breaking out.
47:32And it's not just like 30-year-old Mark Andrews is the tight end five.
47:36It's like, no, 25-year-old Tucker Craft or 23-year-old Colston Loveland is the tight end five.
47:40Well, Loveland's third, but I agree with what you're saying.
47:43It's a much sexier group than usual. Like, I mean, if Harold Fannin were on 29 or 30 other teams, Harold Fannin would be a top 50 player.
47:51Harold Fannin had one of the better seasons you can have as a rookie tight end in Cleveland amid all the chaos.
47:57It's just Cleveland holding him back. As a player, if Harold Fannin was on the Patriots, we'd be talking about him as a fourth-round player.
48:04It's weird. I agree. But the flip side is, don't you just want to wake 11 rounds and get Mark Andrews?
48:10Well, what I was going to say about this, the way that I was thinking about this the whole time, Craig was
48:16kind of explaining the guys that he's into, which I totally agree with pretty much everything you were saying there, Craig.
48:21Like, when you do the name test based on where these guys are going in drafts, I'm like, I want the tight
48:28end in almost every one of those situations. And when it comes to league winners, which is what we're kind of talking
48:34about today, like, you know, first, you ain't first, you're last.
48:37I think you probably need to take a tight end in those areas rather than wait because the rest of the guys
48:43down this list, to me, are much more floor plays.
48:46Guys that'll just get you seven or eight points a game.
48:49You know what I mean? Like, the Jake, the Jake Ferguson's of the world, the Dalton Schultz of the world.
48:54These guys are probably not going to win you your league.
48:57They're the number three or number four option on their team, but they're also probably not going to get you zeros.
49:03I think, I don't know where Mark Andrews lands, Heifetz.
49:06I think he could be the type of guy who has a massive season again and scores 12 touchdowns because that's what he's done in the past.
49:13Or he's been, that's like sort of the role he's played now.
49:17Isaiah likely he's gone. So he's theoretically going to play more.
49:20You limited competition. He's done it before, you know, all that stuff.
49:23The things working against him are just like the age.
49:26Like it's usually like, why? Cause he's almost 31.
49:28Almost. 31. So he would be the guy that I circle as kind of maybe the one later, like really late round
49:34tight end who could win you your league. The other guy, I think.
49:38What about Isaiah likely? George Kittle. Yeah. I mean, it's interesting.
49:41Yeah. I feel like there be none of the like criteria really make, he's been a part-time player.
49:46So it's like hard to say like, you know, how, well, how many targets was he getting last year?
49:51It's like, well, he was always splitting time. So he's a little bit of an outlier.
49:56I agree. And I think he's on the Giants now.
49:58He's on the Giants now. I think a guy like Dalton Kincaid, who the only thing working against him is just the routes.
50:05Other than that, basically when he's on the field and he runs routes, he's fucking awesome.
50:09And he's a high scoring team. Yeah. So you can, who are the other tenants that you like?
50:14Um, well, if you go by kind of some of the criteria that Craig laid out, high scoring team, you know, um, limited competition, limited competition, limited competition.
50:22I think Kincaid is a really interesting one. Like the, the arithmetic is seriously, just if he plays more, he's probably going to smash.
50:29Um, and then the other guy I kind of think about, and this doesn't, he doesn't fit the mold of limiting competition,
50:35but Terrence Ferguson for the Rams who, um, you know, they drafted him in the second round.
50:39He really didn't do a whole lot in his rookie year, but McVay sort of revolutionized the way that teams not revolutionized,
50:46but he, he, they were using 13 personnel, three, three tight ends.
50:49More than just about anybody. Um, and if a Devante Adams gets hurt or Puka Nakua gets hurt, like there's a solid
50:55chance Terrence Ferguson kind of could step up and be the number two receiver on this team.
51:00And so I think he's the type of guy who could be sort of a dark horse out of nowhere.
51:05Um, you, I don't know if he could be a league winner necessarily.
51:09I think he could. I a hundred percent agree with you.
51:12He's free. He will not. Terrence Ferguson probably won't be drafted in any leagues you're in.
51:16And he's, I completely agree. He's like has the most upside of any of the late tight ends.
51:21The guys. So he would, he would probably be the guy that I think of.
51:25I do think Jake Ferguson kind of the same math where if one of the top receivers on the Cowboys gets hurt,
51:31Jake Ferguson could have like eight or nine targets a game and really kind of fit some of the molds in terms of high scoring team.
51:39Number two option on the offense. And he's proven in the past that he can catch a lot of passes.
51:44I think basically it was just hurt all of last year.
51:47Dak Prescott has a history of throwing to the tight end position.
51:51He's very comfortable throwing over the middle of the field.
51:53So he could be a sleeper. And then I don't know past that.
51:57I think it's more like floor play type of guys.
52:00Like Greg Dulcich is like a really deep sleeper because he might be the top option in the Dolphins passing game.
52:06But yeah, like that Greg Dulcich. Yeah. Dulcich and Ferguson, I think are DK are perfect sleepers at tight end.
52:11The problem with Dulcich is like, you think they're going to score any points?
52:15Like you just have to hope that this team is going to score points.
52:19They're not going to pass very much and they're not going to score very many points.
52:23But they're free. DK is talking about guys that are probably going to get added on waivers after week one that I
52:29think are perfect guys to have on your team in week one.
52:33And you cut them if they don't do anything, but there's a chance that they lead the team.
52:38Like that's a real sleeper. I think a Ronda Gadsden to me is a guy that like you can draft him super
52:44late, wait for three weeks, see if it's a thing.
52:47And if it's not, you can drop him. But like a guy who quietly just had 660 yards as a rookie.
52:52And you talk about competition outside of a lot of Conkey.
52:55I wouldn't say it's daunting. I know they brought in David and Joe Kusso.
52:59Like the whole thing might be stupid, but I'm like Mike McDaniel, what he did to John who Smith, what he did to Darren Waller.
53:06Like, you never know. Well, Ronda Gadsden could turn his 600-yard rookie season into something much bigger second year with McDaniel.
53:12And it's like he immediately becomes like a top 10 tight end overnight.
53:16But again, it might completely not work out. He might not play enough and you can just drop him.
53:21But I think that's another guy I'd be willing to take a shot on.
53:25Yeah. So running back strategy. Are we kind of in agreement that there's basically about a top 12 running backs that you
53:31want to 13, depending if you want Josh Jacobs in the air and Jeremiah Love.
53:35But there's 12 or 13 running backs. I want two of them.
53:38And you need – you really want to get one of them just because your life is just so much easier.
53:44And ideally maybe two. Yeah. If you get two of the top 13 running backs and we have our rankings up.
53:50I don't have to read them all. But like it ends, you know.
53:54And then after that, you want to probably load up on receivers.
53:57Yep. Right? I have a question. If you get – just from a – in a snake draft, if you have the
54:03first or second pick, you get B-gen or Gibbs.
54:05And then you come back, you're, you know, whatever it is, 24th or third or whatever.
54:10What do you do in that scenario, Craig? Because then you're staring at probably not a running back again.
54:15Maybe a quarterback or maybe a receiver at that point.
54:18Is that probably what you're doing? Yeah. It's why I think first round pick is tricky this year because I don't think
54:24you'll be able to get another one of those elite running backs.
54:27So, I don't know. It turns into like best player available.
54:30It's like, yeah, if Brock Bowers or there's an A.J.
54:33Brown or a Nico Collins or somebody like Drake London is there, you're going to have to do it.
54:38But it's why, you know, if you're in the middle – if you have like fifth pick, you get McCaffrey.
54:44Second round, you go get Chase Brown. And then in the third and fourth round, there are still guys like Nico Collins and Malik Nabors sitting there.
54:51I would much rather do something like that. But you're right, DK.
54:55Like the first pick or the second pick, you might just get one guy.
54:59Yeah. Then it kind of changes the strategy. If Derrick Henry falls to me, you can get Jameer – I mean, in
55:05Yahoo, I think Derrick Henry is going 34th or something.
55:08And I'm like, if you can get Derrick Henry – if you can get Derrick Henry in your second round, I'm fine with that.
55:14Because like I really think running back gets nasty.
55:17It does. You can start moving down the ranks here.
55:19You're looking at like – I don't know. Like you can take risks with dudes like Quinshon or Trevion Henderson or Tootin and Bucky Irving and David Montgomery.
55:27But it's like relying on those guys to be your number two dude is risky.
55:31Now, the flip side is maybe you end up with Amon Ross St.
55:35Brown in the first round and then maybe you get a running back.
55:39But then it's like, oh, you ended up with Trey McBride and then Lamar Jackson fell because – I don't know, whatever.
55:45And then you're like, oh, I need another running back.
55:47Yeah. There are still plenty of guys I like.
55:50Again, to the spirit of the Ryan Heath article, I think there are certain guys like Basial Tootin for the Jaguars is
55:56a big guy that if he ends up getting a lot of Travis Etienne's carries in Jacksonville, he could be really good.
56:02Maybe he does more passing down work. I still like Romandre Stevenson as just an undervalued player to play a lot.
56:08Jordan Mason is like a very cheap player that will just probably lead the Vikings in carries and touches and probably just get more goal line work.
56:15And the Vikings had almost no goal line carries and he's just like a very boring player that enables you to have like a more aggressive build elsewhere.
56:23The one random player I want to throw out as a true sleeper we haven't talked about at all is Jonah Coleman
56:29for the Broncos, who I just think by the end of the year will probably just be the starting running back in Denver.
56:36He's gotten some buzz early on. Yeah. I think there's a misunderstanding of the Denver backfield.
56:40I think people want R.J. Harvey to be Alvin Kamara.
56:43R.J. Harvey is Darren Sproles. And Jonah Coleman is like, I just, Jake is to me the next Jakey Dobbins.
56:48But Jakey Dobbins has never played 13 games in a season.
56:51I think Jakey Dobbins will be very productive for Denver and he'll probably get hurt at some point, which I don't mean
56:58to be mean, but he's never not gotten hurt.
57:00Right. And then Jonah Coleman is this Kim Scadaboo mold of a big guy who gets all the goal line carries and
57:06can do short yardage, but he can catch and block.
57:09That's hard to find an NFL player who is big enough to be obvious goal line candidate and also can block and has good receiving routes and hands.
57:17And Jonah and Sean Payton said he's not like a rookie.
57:20And Sean Payton doesn't mind red shirting a rookie if they're like immature.
57:23But Jonah Coleman's like a leader. I think he's of another free player.
57:27Well, Pat Bryant actually at receiver who I think could just be starting at the end of the year as like the
57:33Michael Thomas rookie year role from the Saints 10 years ago.
57:36So I don't know. I think Jonah Coleman's good running back late.
57:39Keaton Mitchell's like an upside guy. But yeah, I think five.
57:42Yeah. I was going to say Coleman kind of fits the mold of it.
57:46And I said this during the draft period that he reminded me a little bit of Bucky Irving in a lot of ways where he's not fast.
57:54He didn't even run. I believe it was your comp.
57:57The thinking man's Kim Scadaboo with him. Oh, yeah, that too.
58:00But like from a prospect point of view, because I do think they both run really hard and break a lot of
58:06tackles and are sort of low center center of gravity type runners.
58:09But like from a prospect point of view, Coleman reminds me of Bucky rookie or Bucky that who wasn't hurt all of last year.
58:16That because number one, he's not fast. That was like a huge knock on him.
58:20He didn't I don't believe he ran the combine.
58:22He was worried about running really slow, obviously. But I mean, if you look at some of the underlying stats and the
58:28same with Bucky Irving, like breaking a ton of tackles, really elusive.
58:32And with with Coleman, good and pass pro good in the passing game, good hands, good vision in space.
58:37Basically, the knock is like he's he's small. I guess Coleman is short and slow.
58:41And that usually isn't like a great combination in the NFL.
58:44But I do think he has sort of just a combination of traits that could work in the NFL and sometimes does work in the NFL.
58:51But but again, like and he was a day three pick.
58:54So it's kind of hard for those guys to find the field.
58:58If he gets the opportunity, though, I feel like he's the type of guy who can grab a hold that job and hold on to it.
59:05So I think it's top 12 running backs. Get get a couple and make your life easier.
59:10Yeah, receivers. Yeah. And we were saying get five of the top 10 receivers because as Ryan, he's article pointed out, like
59:16there's basically never just been a true league winning receiver.
59:18That's five of the top 10 receivers. I mean, sorry, five of the five receivers in the first 10 rounds as a
59:25shorthand, a rule of thumb of after the first 10 rounds, it's just harder to find a guy that will contribute.
59:30For the most part, we know the first 120, 130 picks.
59:33Those receivers are going to be the guys. And I think we've talked about a lot.
59:38And I'll just read a bunch of names. And you guys tell me who stands out to you.
59:43I think Devante Smith, Lad McConkie, Christian Watson, Luther Burden, Jalen Waddle is on Denver now.
59:47James Williams, the Lions, Terry McLaurin for Washington. I think D.G.
59:50Moore on the Bills, like Brian Thomas of the Jaguars, Stefan Diggs in Washington now.
59:55Like those are guys that jump out to me.
59:57And if there's 20 receivers that we think could be, you just want to get as many of them as you can
60:03and hope that a few pop and that you're able to start those guys each week.
60:08Yeah. As you go down. So I kind of circled a few guys early rounds, like second or third round.
60:13Maybe I was looking at get one of Pickens, Nico or neighbors.
60:16To me, those guys have immense upside. If things fall right with neighbors, it's if he's healthy with Nico.
60:22It's like if Stroud is even remotely good this year, then Nico could absolutely go bananas.
60:26And then I think Pickens is the bet is maybe he's just better than CD or at least has a better connection with Dak Prescott.
60:33And he's in a high flying, high scoring offense in the middle.
60:36I'm really happy for Pickens, man. I'm happy. I love that we're here.
60:40Like, I love that. I can't believe that we're like, well, there's just the world in which George Pickens is better than CD Land.
60:47It's fucking awesome. George Pickens is so good. I'm happy.
60:49I couldn't tell for a second if you were doing a bit or not.
60:53No, no. Genuine. I'm happy he got off the Steelers and is succeeding and hopefully gets a bunch of money because he's fucking great.
61:00Yeah, he's really, really good. As you go down, like, and again, this is like finding one or two of these six
61:06guys like Devante Smith, Mecca, Buka, Burden, Waddle, McLaurin, McConkie.
61:09Those guys, I think said all those guys. I totally agree with those as targets.
61:13And then as you get later down the draft, Parker Washington, Josh Downs is really interesting to me with the Colts because he takes over.
61:20Michael Pittman's gone. Alec Pierce is injured currently at the moment.
61:23And we don't really know if he's going to inherit a bigger target volume type role.
61:27I think there's a chance, like Heifetz said on the last show, that he could just stay doing what he did last
61:33year, which is taking the top off the defense.
61:36And then another guy that I think is interesting, and this is a capitulation in some ways because I have not been
61:42a huge fan of him, but Gwynn Johnson for the Chargers feels like a solid bet to make where he's going in drafts.
61:48Because, again, it's just I'm thinking I think of the McDaniels offense, Mike McDaniels offense in Miami, where a lot of it
61:54was catch and run or get the ball out quickly and let the guy do things in space.
61:59Find ways to get a guy some runway and he can take advantage of it.
62:04That's what we saw a little bit of Waddle, and that's definitely what we saw with Tyreek.
62:08And Gwynn Johnson, even though he's totally different size-wise than those guys, is a run after the catch.
62:13He's a freak athlete. If he gets some space, you're not going to catch him.
62:17Obviously, the hands are a little suspect. That's kind of probably just going to be a thing for him.
62:23I think he has gotten a little bit better.
62:25But he has kind of the skill set where he could sneakily have a lot of production in this offense, I think.
62:31And people are maybe just picturing that Ladd McConkie is sort of going to take back over as number one.
62:37I think there's a chance where this is just like a 1A, 1B in that offense.
62:41Yeah. So I think there's a lot. Right receiver is so nice because you can go through every round and there's like two guys.
62:48I'm like, oh, Christian Watson. Like you can do that for the first like nine rounds.
62:52So it's really a position you do not need to rush on.
62:56And I'm guilty. Sometimes it's awesome to have Jamar Chase on your team.
62:59Sometimes that feels fucking cool. Yeah. And you don't like you.
63:02I think there are certain positions like for like draft slots where it makes more sense to go wide receiver.
63:08Where like sometimes you kind of have to take one if you have like the fourth pick.
63:13Sometimes you kind of just got to take Jamar Chase if he's there.
63:16And you got to kind of make it work.
63:19And if you're lucky, you can still get two of those top 12 running backs.
63:23But yeah, it kind of all depends on where you're picking.
63:26All right. We're going to bring in Bill in a moment.
63:29But first, anything else you guys just want as we wrap this up draft strategy where it's like wait on quarterback unless
63:35you get a really cool one around some losers.
63:37Wait on tight end unless you get a really cool one around some guys that aren't so exciting.
63:42Try to get as many great of the top 12 running backs as you can.
63:47And then just like load up on receivers because some of them will be great.
63:51And the more receivers you have, the more likely you get one of the ones that pop off.
63:56I think that's right. Which position or which rule are you most likely to deviate from in the moment?
64:01The whole time you're talking about Bowers, I was like, oh, shit, I'm going to I'm going to totally fall for this
64:07and take Bowers in the second round. Just because he's 14.
64:10He's just fucking awesome. He's the type of player he is fun to have on your team.
64:15So I think it's really it's going to be tempting.
64:18He is a maybe not a siren song because I think he will be good.
64:22But I mean, last year he kind of ruined a few of my drafts just because he got hurt.
64:27But yeah, he's awesome. Mine. Mine. Yeah. Mine will probably be taking like Tucker Craft and being like, I figured it out.
64:33That was easy. That's probably going to be me.
64:36Sam Laporta fell. That'll probably be me. I think there's a there's a I don't know what the word is.
64:41It's just like a bias thing where Craig, because you were on craft early.
64:45And I feel like you kind of now. I took him last year in the ringer league and you're like on the craft corner.
64:52And then you kind of it's like you have to you have to have that payoff for you.
64:57So you're now going to probably like reach on a player that's that's more expensive now than he was last year.
65:03You're like the Colts in real life where you started hot.
65:06You're like run it back. We'll just pick up exactly where we left off.
65:09No problems. That's how I am with a chance because I was on a chance so early.
65:14And now I'm like, I just need to get him.
65:17It's part of my brand. I even if like the Dolphins offense is going to suck ass this year, like I still want a chance.
65:24Part of your brand. What do you stand for?
65:26Yeah, I like the little tiny, really fast guys.
65:29That's me and Jaden Daniels. I'm like, I'm going to say wait on quarterback.
65:33And then we're like, oh, God, he's so cool.
65:35Oh, Jaden in the fourth. Especially now with digs, man.
65:38Remember the time he went 88 percent on fourth down.
65:41I want that guy. All right. So, yeah, there's there's our strategy for 2026.
65:45It's easier to give you advice than actually follow our own.
65:48So, you know what? Just, you know, it's your team.
65:50So just do some mock drafts and just make a team you can live with.
65:55That's another piece of good advice. Do some mock drafts.
65:57It actually does help. All right. Let's bring in Bill Simmons.
66:00This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome.
66:03You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome, that's new.
66:06It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50 page restoration block or
66:12finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks.
66:15Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense?
66:19There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required compatibility and availability varies 18 plus.
66:24All right. Well, we're now joined by Bill Simmons, who you just said you want to talk to us about something and
66:30we have no idea what you wanted to tell us.
66:33First of all, it's weird to be on here.
66:35I don't know if I'm being judged if I'm like one of the best looking over 50 sports podcasters if that list has come out yet.
66:42That's a new list. Where I rank my top four.
66:45I'm a, you know, I'm a, I'm a wife guy.
66:48You are. That counts for me. Public wife guy.
66:50Yeah. Kids. Love your kids. You got dogs. Real family man.
66:53Those are good points. I dress like Justin Herbert where it just looks like I get free stuff and then I don't have a stylist or anything.
67:01Um, yeah, this pod's really gone off the rails.
67:03It's an honor to be here. Um, Maxim, Maxim magazine, the podcast.
67:07Yeah. Yeah. Maxim mag bringing it back 25 years later.
67:09I had a, every year I have a terrible fantasy idea.
67:12That's actually pretty good. And this year I came up with one and I was going to throw it at you guys
67:19and Craig doesn't even know what it is. Um, so I was thinking of the concept of like in, cause I watched
67:25survivor this year of when you can like, um, kind of stick it to somebody that you're competing against.
67:30Right. Um, so it's like, how would that work in fantasy?
67:33And I was doing my QB. I did a normal podcast with Mina.
67:37I'm like, you guys, you guys did the crazy version of a podcast.
67:40I just ran QB. You talked about football. I felt like she had more material.
67:44She was, there was like a three hour director's cut with Mina where she was going through backups.
67:49Um, anyway, I had this idea cause there's three terrible quarterback.
67:52I gave them minus twos on my, uh, my QB tears, the Cleveland Browns who have Watson or Santa, who knows who
67:58they're, where they're going to end up. Atlanta. It's so grim.
68:01I don't think two or Penix are going to play.
68:04It's it, it, it might be Cooper rush. Um, so there's two.
68:08And then the jets of the third one. And I was thinking, wow.
68:11So what a win for the Steelers that they're not in there.
68:14That's all. No, you're not. You Rogers was a straight zero, um, which is fitting zero points for me for Roger.
68:20But I was thinking, should you have to draft one week of one of those three team situations?
68:25And then you have to pick over the course of a 14 week regular season when you start one of the things.
68:31Right. Cause initially I was thinking it would be really fun if you could draft you basically like you're in the 12th round of your draft.
68:39And it's like with my 12th round pick, I take week 12 of the Cleveland Browns.
68:43Right. And they're playing like the Texans and you could then draft that.
68:47And then when I'm playing Danny Kelly in week 12, I make him, he has to start the Browns.
68:52And it's like this huge advantage for me in head to head fantasy football.
68:56Right. It's a reverse, you know, card, but it's too hard.
68:59You can't do it with the websites. The websites I don't think would be able to pull it off.
69:04It gets complicated. People have to add and do math.
69:07So I think the move is you have to draft one of these guys and you know, during 14 weeks, like I drafted week seven, the jets.
69:14I just know that's coming in my week seven.
69:17Am I strategic now? Do I do where I have, like, I also have Joe Burrow.
69:21Do I then draft, like there's a Joe Burrow bye week.
69:24And it's like, oh, I need the jets for that week.
69:27Cause I'm going to lose anyway. Cause I don't have Joe Burrow.
69:31Is there something here where you have like this grenade quarterback that you basically have to deal with for one of the 14 weeks?
69:37Do you like this idea? It's like chopped where you have to like mix in some disgusting ingredient to your middle to try to make it work.
69:45So basically how it would work is like, okay, so you can take any quarterback on the Browns, the jets or the Falcons.
69:51You just get the teams, the teams. So it's in one of your, during your draft, you just draft the Browns.
69:57So like we're doing our ringer fantasy draft on the 27th.
70:00There's maybe there's 14 possible weeks where you could draft one of those three QBs, but you have to assign the week.
70:06But as we're doing the draft, maybe there's a week where you're like, you know what?
70:11Actually the, the Browns playing the Bengals defense. Like they might actually be able to put some, some stats up.
70:16I kind of want to grab week seven home at Cleveland Thursday night.
70:20You know, they're going to put up points and maybe you take that in the 12th round because that's going to be an advantage for you.
70:27But this goes back to when we were at Grantland, the bad QBL, the bad QB draft and trying to figure out like how to incorporate bad quarterbacks.
70:35I just love the idea of having like, oh, this is going to be great.
70:39I have Atlanta, Atlanta week 10, they're playing New Orleans.
70:42And then Tua throws like three pick sixes and just single-handedly ruins your week.
70:45I don't know. I feel like there's something here.
70:48Tell me where I'm wrong. So I like the idea where you, you give it to your opponent, but do you have to choose your opponent right away?
70:56Or do you choose them like at some point down the line?
70:59You're saying it's like you, you pick like week five.
71:02The grenade idea. Browns are playing the Bengals. And so I will draft the Browns quarterback situation for week five.
71:07And I have to start them week five. Yeah, because I guess the way to do this on the website is nobody's going to have those three quarterbacks.
71:15Like nobody's going to have a Browns, Jets or Atlanta quarterback on their roster.
71:19So if I'm playing Craig in week five, I'm going to be like, you know what?
71:23I am using my hammer this week. You don't get to start Lamar Jackson against me.
71:28Actually, you'll be starting Geno Smith. But I still feel like there should be scarcity with the guys.
71:33Oh, I see. I didn't realize you give it to your opponent.
71:36That's fine. First of all, if I said scarcity, I would just be like run off this podcast.
71:41That's all I'm going to say. But I'll leave it at that.
71:44Scarcity? Yeah. It's okay. And scarcity? We have pronunciation dyslexia.
71:47No, you're in my support group, I Fitz. I'm the only one who's as bad as yours.
71:52This raises a larger conversation about fantasy leagues where it's like, do you like the gimmick league or do you like to play it straight?
71:59You know what I mean? Like in the ringer league, we already did this weird thing last year where you drafted your
72:05own punishment and everybody had a different punishment. Should we lean into the gimmicks and like get weird or do you play it straight?
72:12Right. I like the idea of the grenade. My immediate tweak would be what if instead of being like, we're going to take the Browns in week 12?
72:19Because I think what that takes out is if a team's better than you think or like sometimes a lot of injuries
72:25hit and then you're like, oh my God, like the Rams, Stafford's hurt.
72:29The Rams are playing Ty Simpson. He's the worst quarterback ever.
72:32Like McCarthy last year with the Vikings. I think what if it's as simple as the highest scoring team each week can
72:38just pick another team in the league that they're not playing that week.
72:42And like you have to start a quarterback of our choosing this week.
72:45Oh, it's like a perk. Yeah. So like if Sal's team has the highest scoring points, it's like Sal could just be
72:51like, yeah, you know what Heifetz was mean to me this week?
72:55Heifetz has to play Schuder Sanders this week. Or it's just a pick.
72:58Or it's just every, each player in the league, like all of us, you each get one, one time you get to
73:04give a shitty waiver wire quarterback to your opponent.
73:07So maybe that's what it is. Maybe it's somebody who's starting, but like on Friday was not picked up by anybody.
73:13Yeah. And I could just be like, oh, Schuder Sanders is getting the start this week in Houston.
73:18Yeah. This is it. I'm using my grenade. I'm giving it to Craig and I'm going to cripple Craig's team this week.
73:24Like imagine it's week 13. We're all battling for the playoffs.
73:27I haven't used my grenade yet. Yeah. You saved it.
73:30I've saved it. I'm playing Heifetz and I go, oh shit.
73:33It's Carson Beck's first start this week. Right, right.
73:35Against the Texans. You have to start Carson Beck against me.
73:38Heifetz has to start Carson Beck against me. Yeah.
73:41I guess the waiver wire does make it where I just text you and say, hey, sorry, dude.
73:46I'm using my grenade this week. Yeah. And it has to be a quarterback that is starting.
73:50It has to be a quarterback that's going to start that week.
73:54But you can pick anyone on the waiver wire.
73:56Yeah. The only problem, I guess, is that when a super flex league, how many quarterbacks will be on the waiver wire?
74:02I guess the shitty ones will still be on the waiver wire.
74:06I don't know. I think that's the only concern is part of me wants the ability to pull it off someone's bench.
74:12Like if Carson Beck's there, I kind of want the ability.
74:15Nope. Screw it. We're getting eminent domain. The worst matchup.
74:18I also think it'll be funny with the grenades when people use them because Craig will overthink it and save it to
74:24week 14, but then he'll already be out of the playoffs.
74:27I'll be four and eight by then. Yeah. Yeah.
74:29But House will just immediately use it. Like week two, he'll be like, oh!
74:33He just won't be able to wait to put his grenade on somebody.
74:37He's trying to build momentum to begin the year.
74:39Yeah. He'll just be so excited to use it.
74:42He won't be able to keep it in his pocket.
74:44What's nice is what we can do is, is now like that our listeners are hearing this, send us ideas on how to perfect this idea.
74:52Email us at ringerfantasyfootball at gmail.com to tell us how to use the grenades.
74:56I think the grenade, it's a great idea. I think the grenade is the idea too.
75:00It's like you're throwing a grenade at someone. The only other thing I was thinking is, could it be QB or defense?
75:06Defense. You get your grenade on either, but I could be like, oh, Dolphins going against the Cowboys this week.
75:12You will have the Dolphins defense. It's good too.
75:14But I think QB is more, I think QB has the higher upside of just being completely tortured as the guys, you
75:20know, they're like, let's go to Cleveland. Another bad play by Shadar Sanders.
75:24And meanwhile, like the guy you're going against had to start him.
75:27If I had to predict, Sal's going to love this.
75:30Yeah, Sal's going to love this. And Sean's going to hate it.
75:33No, Sean's going to be like, this is bullshit.
75:36We're going to give Sean Geno Smith in like week 13 and he'll lose because of it.
75:40He'll quit the league. He'll be pissed. Storm out of the tech.
75:44He'll leave the text chat. But I think I'm interested to see what your listeners think.
75:48And I do feel like there's something here. The only other thing I have to say is Denzel Boston, who was 45
75:54to one yesterday for rookie of the year. And I couldn't wait anymore.
75:58I had to get in on it. I saw something in the training camp yesterday and I was just like, I have to have some Denzel Boston.
76:05So he was 45 to one. It's dropping now.
76:08But the quotes and stuff afterwards, nothing's better than August.
76:11People like, oh my God, he actually levitated above the field.
76:14I watched him climb the uprights and catch the last pass.
76:17It's just amazing. People are so in on him now.
76:19I don't think any one player has more hype than Denzel Boston right now.
76:23It's also hard because sometimes the hype is actually warranted.
76:26Sometimes you can just tell immediately that a player is going to be awesome.
76:30And then sometimes it's like Cason Williams and he just looks awesome in the preseason.
76:34And then he gets cut. You know what I mean?
76:37Like you just there's there's no in between. I feel like you had the best you had.
76:42The Russell Wilson one was the best one ever.
76:44Like that whole training camp every single day was like it was like, what's going on?
76:49Why are they talking about him? Yeah, people knew about Russell Wilson by after the first rookie camp that they were like, oh, this guy's legit.
76:56The other guy I was thinking of that you knew immediately because he was just making plays every single camp was Doug Baldwin.
77:02He was undrafted. And then all of a sudden he had like, I don't know what it was, 900 yards his rookie year.
77:09I believe the Boston hype though. I'm actually I thought he fell way further than he should have.
77:13It's interesting that he's getting way more hype than Casey Concepcion.
77:17He might he might have not been. He's down to 40 to one today.
77:20Yeah. But when you think about it, like who would you bet on for rookie of the year, which ties into some
77:27of the fantasy stuff we've all talked about. But because I don't think it's going to be Jeremiah Love.
77:32I don't I two other running backs. Fernando Mendoza is probably not going to play enough.
77:36Yeah. So it's much more wide open this year.
77:39I don't think it's going to be any. There's no tight end prospect.
77:42Tyson will get hurt. Yeah, he's already hurt. So Tate would be probably the safest pick.
77:47But, you know, Boston would have the thing where he does not have a quarterback.
77:51Yeah. I mean, it's there's like Makai Lemon, but like Makai Lemon has gotten zero hype compared to Boston.
77:56No, I earlier in this episode, I love Jonah Coleman for the Broncos is 60 to one.
78:01And that's the guy that I'm like, if Jakey Dobbins goes down to week three, I think you get a three and
78:07a half months of Jonah Coleman is the starting running back on a team that could win 13 games for Denver.
78:13And in a year, if the Raiders actually don't play Mendoza for a long stretch, then like that's kind of what it
78:19would take is Mendoza not playing or playing and not playing well.
78:22Well, one last year, right? Was it Tate last year?
78:25Didn't he end up winning it? He did win.
78:27I think he did. I think he came back.
78:30More importantly, who's the hottest rookie? That's another conversation all my friends and I are having.
78:34You're right. Tate did win. Yeah. The only guy I think Jordan Tyson with like, I don't know, Olave, Olave's health, like
78:40Jordan Tyson might just be fucking great. And if Tyler Shuck is good and the Saints offense is good and Jordan Tyson
78:47has 1100 yards, I think he could win. Yeah.
78:49There's got to be a new name. You guys are coming on my pod to do the I like that guy awards or whatever we call them.
78:57But there's got to be a new name for the guy everyone has completely given up on because of some sort of
79:03physical stuff like Olave last year, who then was really good.
79:06And everybody was like, yeah, he's had too many concussions.
79:08I'm out. But then people ignore him every year.
79:11I feel like no one talks about Chris Olave because they just think he's going to get a concussion.
79:16Well, I wonder if Tua is that guy this year.
79:19Yeah. Tua, he could be the starter just the whole year.
79:22I think he's going to play 70. He might play 17 games for the Falcons this year.
79:27Yeah. He won't be on my team. I think the guy this year that I can't talk myself into because he'll just always get hurt is Xavier Worthy.
79:34I think he's the new version of that. He's already hurt.
79:38I just. Yeah. Yeah. That guy. If I, if I tackled Xavier Worthy, he might sprain his ankle.
79:43I don't think I can buy into that. It is funny when you read the August pieces and I read a Xavier Worthy thing today.
79:49And it's almost like being at a cocktail party where people are offering you appetizers.
79:54Like, would you like a pigs in the blanket?
79:56It's like, I think I would. And I was, I was seeing the Xavier Worthy.
80:00There was an article about like nothing went right for him last year.
80:04He got hurt in the first game in the first half.
80:07I was like, yeah, he really did. Maybe he's really good.
80:10Maybe he just had the year from hell. I started, my brain started going there, but that's the best thing about August.
80:16You start thinking Denzel Boston is Terrell Owens. It's a great time.
80:19Things are heating up. Let me ask you for the ringer fantasy league.
80:23Do you like the punishment system where everybody drafts their own punishment?
80:26Do you like that or no? You think it should just be one punishment?
80:30I think it would be more fun to open it up to the listeners for what the punishment should be after where
80:36we give them like seven choices and they vote.
80:39I'd like to bring in the fans. We had, someone did email in and say it should be the, the, I don't
80:45know that we can come with a better, but they were like the est, like the EST as in like the sourest,
80:51the, the, like just basically just a bunch of superlatives for like this, like having eat this sourest candy or the hot,
80:57maybe in the hottest chicken wings or the hottest, it's hot sauce and everything has to be like the worst version of something.
81:03Is there any way to replicate Matt Damon having to listen to the sirens in the Odyssey?
81:08Is there, could that be a punishment? Yeah. What concert do we force you to go?
81:13We tie somebody around a pole with rope and something terrible happens.
81:16I'll just record an album of me like singing 2000 songs or something.
81:19And then just make Sal listen to it for like 12 hours or something.
81:23We make Bill watch like, like Captain America, Civil, Winter Soldier.
81:26I'd rather quit the week. Maybe it's just Heifetz and I mispronouncing confusing names.
81:30Just, just long, long names that have more than 10 letters.
81:33We make Bill do Captain America month on the rewatchable.
81:36He has to do all four in a row.
81:39Who would win? If Heifetz and I went head to head with, uh, with a speech dyslexia sports thing, who would win?
81:45It's pretty bad. Who's, who's worse? Um, my experience is Heifetz.
81:48Heifetz. Yeah, I think it's Heifetz. Mine's worse, but I think people correct me more.
81:52So you keep yours for longer. But like Bill's like Bill will say Corey Barker instead of Curry Barker, which is not like him.
81:59He's not, he didn't mispronounce it. He just got it wrong.
82:02Heifetz is actively mispronouncing words that he's reading and knows how to spell.
82:05Well, that's because Heifetz and I are both writers.
82:08We, our brains, we move like a writing. I don't know why it doesn't happen to Danny, but yeah, I've, I've always done it.
82:14I've always had this issue. Speaking of which, do you pronounce the L in almond?
82:18This is a big deal. No, it's all, isn't it almond?
82:22Yeah. Almond. You pronounce the L, you do. Almond.
82:24Who doesn't pronounce the L? Danny? Who do you think?
82:27Who do you think? No, also apparently a majority of Americans don't pronounce the L.
82:31I think it's an East coast thing or something, but there are apparently a large swath of people that say almond and not almond.
82:38If you go to any dictionary, the pronunciation guides says the L is silent and they still are mad at me.
82:43What do you do for, for A-U-N-T? Haunt? Oh, aunt.
82:46Oh, I say, I say, I, I say, I say, I say aunt.
82:50I say aunt. Yeah. My family says aunt. Yeah.
82:52I say aunt. But a lot of people are aunt and, and haughty about it.
82:56Yeah. Yeah. Wait, if it's, you're saying that you say aunt.
82:59I kind of, I think I weave in and out of both.
83:03I think you say aunt. Honestly. I say aunt, aunt, I don't know.
83:06I say a lot of words wrong. I mean, God, they never let it go.
83:11I said maestro instead of maestro once about Ben Johnson.
83:13I never heard the end of that one. Um, how did you say Grantland?
83:17Is there a Grantland? Is there a, how many words are there to say Grantland?
83:21People have messed that one up. People will say what, Grantland?
83:24Grantland. Grantland. If you say Grantland. I love Grantland.
83:27Grantland. We didn't say the Lent. Adam Friedland has the same thing.
83:30Yes, it's just like Adam Friedland. It's not Friedland.
83:33But most people see it and they want to say Friedland, but it's Friedland.
83:37It's Friedland. Yeah. Yeah. See, it's the kind of stuff you learn.
83:40All right. Open it up to your listeners. I'm interested to see what they think.
83:44Emails at ringerfantasyfootballgmail.com for punishments. And then are snake drafts still booger eater drafts?
83:48Are we doing a booger eater draft for this?
83:50Yeah, we're doing. Yeah. I'm kind of coming back on snake drafts.
83:54Oh, yeah. Just because I'm getting older and stupider.
83:56I'm coming back. So were you wrong before or are you like eating boogers now?
84:00I'm just dropping back down to where the booger ears are.
84:03It's a safer place. It's better. It's bliss, you know?
84:06I think this is one of the great fantasy years of all time.
84:10Wow. Like there's a complete, it's almost like what's happened in movies with where movies got really good this year and we
84:16started moving away from, you know, superhero movies and terrible ideas.
84:19And we're actually like building around creative people. Yeah.
84:21Now that we have so many good quarterbacks, it's completely unleashed fantasy again.
84:25And it's. And good play callers. Now it's like we're building around Ben Johnson and Mike McKinnon and all these guys.
84:31There's real strategy again. It's not just like, oh, I have a $60 running back and then let me, let me get lucky with receivers.
84:38It's like, do I want to spend money on a quarterback?
84:41Do I want to back an entire offense? There's like five, six offenses.
84:44You can just be like, I'm getting everyone on this offense.
84:47Do you want to go the old school way?
84:50I like where we are with it. And there's the rookies are really hard this year too.
84:55You can't just be rolling the dice with, I think rookies and especially rookie running backs like you could in the past.
85:01It's nice that like Trevor Lawrence is a great coach and Liam Cohen and like Caleb Williams is the number one pick
85:07that has Ben Johnson and even Kyler. Seriously. Like number one pick.
85:10A lot of like the most talented quarterbacks are working with the most respected coaches.
85:14Yeah. Right. And listen, sleep on Drake May, your own risk, everybody.
85:18Where are you on the Patriots? They're going to be good.
85:21What are we doing? They're going to be better than they were last year.
85:25They have more talent. They have the same coaching staff for the second year.
85:28Their schedule is a little harder. Fine. But the team is better.
85:32There's no question. They have more talent. Is a little part of you.
85:35AJ Brown and the team. Is a little part of you happy that like the big coach story of the offseason is
85:41now Kyle Shanahan as opposed to your guy? Listen, it was nice to take some pressure off my guy Vrabes.
85:47No one's talking about it anymore. Now it's the substation.
85:50There's one person. One person is talking about it, Craig.
85:53Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, true. Think about the things that bump Vrabel off.
85:56Aaron Rodgers, the substation, all the San Francisco stuff.
85:58Aaron Donald, Mayer may not come back. That's just going on day after day after day.
86:03Justin Herbert's like in la-la land with his new fiance.
86:06Justin Herbert's canoodling on the sidelines. That's been great.
86:08Yeah. Now there's some good people just realized Tampa didn't fire their coach last year.
86:12That's been a fun one. It's like, wait, Todd Bowles is still the coach.
86:16I thought he lost his job. Nope. He has his job.
86:19And then like the really stupid stuff like Lamar revenge season.
86:22Lamar is going to try harder this year. Like I always love that narrative of, oh, now that new coach, he's going
86:28to really, he has something to prove. He's nothing to prove.
86:31He won two MVPs. The only thing he has to prove is how far can he go in the playoffs.
86:37It's not, I don't think his mindset's going to, do you guys think anything's going to be different about Lamar?
86:42I don't know. We do this every year with both Josh Allen and Lamar.
86:46It's like, this is the year they got to get to a Superbowl or it's over.
86:51And then they don't get to a Superbowl. Then the next year happens.
86:54Like what could they have done differently in preparation or anything?
86:57Like in basketball, sometimes they got like, there'll be a year where like Luca can come in and be 30 pounds, you
87:03know, in better shape or Joel Embiid. It's like, oh my God, those guys got, but you can't, you can't not be
87:10in shape when you're the quarterback, right? When you're Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen, you're not going to become fat.
87:15If anything, I think being fatter is better. I feel like most of the great quarterbacks of all time are not ripped.
87:21I know. I usually, I don't like, I like when they have a little extra padding.
87:26I wish Drake May was 20 pounds heavier. I know.
87:28Caleb lost weight. I don't know if you saw that.
87:31He lost like 10, 15 pounds. Looks great. I did.
87:34Listen, you guys expounded on it in the hottest quarterback section.
87:37Yeah. He's, he made a, made a run in the top seven.
87:40It was unexpected. It was a Cinderella story. You could argue he should be four now after the weight loss, but it looks really good.
87:47I didn't, I didn't really appreciate or like the borough ranking at all.
87:51Hmm. You think he's too high or too low at number three?
87:54I have a 21 year old daughter, um, who has been on my podcast many times.
87:59And if she came home with Joe Burrow, I'd be upset.
88:02I'd be like, this guy seems like a goober.
88:04What's going on with this dude? Yeah. Is this going to be your boyfriend?
88:08I don't know. There's something, something off with him.
88:11Yeah. Yeah. I wouldn't be psyched about that. We always talk about this hypothetically.
88:14If we had as much money as Joe Burrow, would we buy a Batmobile?
88:18And you actually can talk to this. Would you buy a Batmobile?
88:22Yeah. Joe Burrow spends his money like a, like a middle schooler.
88:25Is it like a LaMilla Ball penthouse situation? I just saw that.
88:28I couldn't believe. The Josh Baskin penthouse. He was like the kid in big.
88:32He is. Well, the idea that Joe Burrow bought his lineman katanas is like the funniest thing to me.
88:37I got you really cool swords. It's funny. He looks like Macaulay Culkin a little bit.
88:42And he kind of lives like Kevin in Home Alone when his parents are gone or he's just eating ice cream every day and ordering pizza.
88:49Like that is kind of how Burrow lives. Maybe this was overlaps with what you already did.
88:54But the single coolest quarterback is another interesting rankings.
88:56We talked about this. What was it? Heifetz thought we were saying Mahomes is cooler than somebody.
89:01Well, no. I said Mahomes was cool and you and Craig were appalled at me.
89:05I don't think Mahomes is cool. I think Baker Mayfield is one of the cooler quarterbacks.
89:10I think it has to be only judged by how cool they are to their teammates in command of the locker room and the huddle.
89:16And just Baker. Ability to have people follow them, I think is what it is.
89:21I think Josh Allen has that. A hundred percent.
89:23Not positive about Burrow. I think it's Allen. I think it's Baker.
89:26It's Rogers. Rogers had it. There's no question. Yeah.
89:29He probably still has it. I actually think Roethlisberger had it for a while.
89:33What? As his play declined and declined. But I do think he was a big jump on my back.
89:38Rivers was one of the best ones. That's why he kept getting hurt all the time.
89:42Yeah. Rivers is a good one. Rivers was good.
89:45Like a leader of men. The leader of men draft is...
89:48Leader of men. We really had those in the 70s and 80s.
89:51I felt like we had more of those. These guys that were like, I'll leave my leg on the field for you.
89:57Yeah. I'll just play with the other one. Who was the best?
90:01Who was the defining guy on that? Leader of men?
90:04Yeah. I mean, I would say Montana. That's what I was thinking too.
90:07Marino and Elway were both good with this too.
90:10Marino... I think Marino was... Everyone was afraid of him.
90:12Supposedly Phil Simms was pretty good at this. Like some of these guys that were like kind of like, you know, above
90:18average quarterbacks, but the leadership and tangible smart stuff pushed it over the top.
90:22Heifetz can... There was some good Phil Simms stuff.
90:25Yeah. Simms... It's funny because like Jeff Hostetler ended up winning one of the Super Bowls, which is funny.
90:30Sims... True. That team was loaded though. The more you heard Phil Simms speak as an announcer, I think the less the
90:36lore got to me in the past. It was like...
90:39Like the Brady thing. Yeah. Exactly. I will say Tom Brady...
90:42I hate to say this, but Tom Brady is the answer here.
90:45Because DK, I thought... I still think my favorite thing, summing up Tom Brady's career is what DK said, which he compared
90:51him to Alexander the Great that people would... Because he never lost a battle everyone thought with him.
90:56He couldn't die. And that really was the Buccaneers.
90:59Yeah. Everyone's just like, well, Tom Brady's on my side, which I thought you saw in the World Cup with Argentina.
91:05All the Argentinian players are like, well, we have Messi.
91:08We're going to win the game. And you saw that on the other teams they play where they're like, yeah, they're probably going to tie the game.
91:15And like England screwed up England's whole thing is because they had Messi and everyone...
91:19Like you can't... Like the confidence, having a great guy like that, like so much of execution is confidence.
91:24Yeah. And it's the thing that it seems like with the Eagles is the question with Jalen Hurts, even though he's already won a Super Bowl.
91:32But they're still like that. When you have those QBs where there's still like that little bit of doubt.
91:37You know? Cam Ward might have it for all we know.
91:40Like there's some young guys that if they have better teams around them, we'll see if it comes out.
91:45But it's an interesting time for QBs. It does feel like there's about to be a shift with this class, this entrenched class that we had.
91:52But there's this next group coming. Like Caleb might by the end of the year be one of the five best QBs in the league.
91:59Or he might just be exactly like he was last year.
92:02Who knows? It's weird that a lot of the quarterbacks that have been like the guys for the last so many years are like 30 now.
92:10It's just weird that Mahomes and Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson are all like 30 or turning 30.
92:15We don't have a ton of sample sizes of like a bunch of mobile quarterbacks aging.
92:19With wear and tear. Yes. But we don't really know like what Lamar at 35 or Josh Allen at 35 will look like.
92:25Well, the history for Lamar is not that favorable for the guys that run a lot.
92:30Allen, I think, is excluded from all this because he's superhuman.
92:33He's basically like having an outside linebacker playing quarterback.
92:35Yeah. But Lamar is a little more of a normal body.
92:38And, you know, I was shocked by his rushing stats last year were like half of what they were at his peak.
92:44And is that like an aberration or is that just where we're headed with him?
92:49I know. I completely. I took him in the fantasy, the Ringer Fantasy League, and he ruined my entire season because he was genuinely hurt.
92:56He was definitely very hurt, but looked horrible in the pocket.
92:59I mean, he took so many sacks. I mean, it just like completely sapped his skill.
93:03But I do think, I don't know. I mean, I'm probably going to bet on him to bounce back than I am
93:09him to be just terrible all of a sudden.
93:12It's usually every other year, right, for him? He's 29.
93:14Burrow is another every other year guy. It's an even year, which means the Bengals are going to be good.
93:20Usually in the odd years, they get injured. Hey, the last time Burrow was in the playoffs, I was trying to think,
93:26what were we all doing in 2022? We were still wearing masks here and there.
93:30What's going on? Like, it was a while ago.
93:33Burrow gets a lot of slack from everybody. It's pretty interesting.
93:36Well, the Bengals. They're like a Giannis situation. The Bengals, they're going to be a team trying to keep a superstar because
93:42if the Bengals miss the playoffs this year, I think they went very in.
93:46I think they're afraid Burrow might leave. I think other executives think that the Burrow might want out.
93:51And it's very much like trying to placate Luca or trying to be honest where they need to keep Joe Burrow wanting to play in Cincinnati.
93:58Do they? That is that is. Yes, they do.
94:00Yes. If they miss the playoffs four years in a row.
94:03Yeah. I think other teams are wondering if he'll want to leave.
94:07You're looking at him, aren't you? He fits. You're thinking about it.
94:10He'd be a great stealer. There's all. Everybody's already connecting him to the Rams.
94:14Like future Rams quarterback, Joe Burrow. Yeah. With the Rams with all their first round picks, they have just ready to make it.
94:20What could they possibly do? No first round picks.
94:23Well, Ty's in Aaron Donald's contract. Yeah. Danny, do you think.
94:26The Bengals quarterback. I was watching Get Up this morning because I woke up super early for God knows why.
94:31I had coffee and I didn't want to go outside yet because it was still dark.
94:36So I put on Get Up. And they did a segment about if Aaron Donald comes back to the Rams, will this
94:42be one of the greatest defenses ever? And Greeny was ripping off the defenses.
94:46And I was just like, what's going on? Like, even if they have Aaron Donald, would this, would they even be one
94:52of the best defenses of this decade? Like they have two awesome guys, but like for an 11 person defense, I wouldn't,
94:58they're not going to be like the first defense drafted in fantasy or anything.
95:02I don't think. I think it's going to be Houston.
95:05I mean, yeah. Going into the season, even if Donald comes back, you still look at the Seahawks.
95:10You still look at the Texans, probably a couple other teams.
95:13But I do think Donald is going to be good.
95:15Like, I do think he's still going to be really good, which is terrifying.
95:19They're going to use him here and there. I mean, they're going to probably keep him super limited to try and just make it to the playoffs.
95:27Just passing downs. Yeah. I think, I don't know.
95:29I mean, first of all, they did trade Trent McDuffie, who was a first team all pro cornerback a couple of years ago.
95:36I would say this, Bill. I think the question is if Aaron Donald is able to get back to how good he was.
95:42Let's just say it's possible because Cam Hayward's older than him.
95:45Cam Hayward's made second team all pros. So let's just say if Aaron Donald does.
95:49Aaron Donald's the best defensive tackle of the 21st century.
95:52And Miles Garrett might be the best pass rusher of the 21st century.
95:56And if they play together, they make everyone else better.
95:58And so I don't know if they will. It's certainly, I think one of the better defense, like automatically there have the
96:04potential to just be dominant because it's, they, those are two just scheme breaking players.
96:09But that's a different question though. The two guys together as like one of the best duos we've ever had.
96:14I don't think that, I don't think that translates to this is one of the best defenses ever.
96:19It's a season long versus one game kind of question.
96:22I feel like, like if it's the playoffs and it's, you have Aaron Donald and Miles Garrett for one series, you might take that over any defense.
96:29It's like having Mariano Rivera. Right. I would take the Texans or, you know, Seattle.
96:34Well, Danny's starting to get worried about the Seahawks.
96:36I can see it in his eyes. No, I, I'm.
96:39And Minori's waits to get surgery. And he's like, yeah, I'm going to get it now.
96:43Hey, Danny didn't like that. God, this is terrible, man.
96:46And like Aaron Donald, he left. You got it.
96:48You can't come back. You're not allowed to do that.
96:51It's like Dr. Loomis. You're out of my life.
96:54He was dead. We buried him. You know, you can't come back.
96:57It's not allowed. I just really want him to go find something else that he loves.
97:02He's definitely coming back. Oh, he's coming back. Yeah.
97:04Yeah. It's, I think this can be the most fun football season from a, I don't know what the F's going to
97:10happen standpoint that we've had since COVID. Yeah. I really think you could make a case for like six AFC teams.
97:16Seattle versus the Rams is great. Bears, Lions, Packers.
97:18That whole division is awesome. Eagles versus Cowboys. Like you go on down the line.
97:23It's, this is going to be sick. And, and guess what?
97:26The NFC South is going to be as awful as always.
97:29We have that too. Right. That too. Awesome. Bill, thank you so much for coming on.
97:33Email us at ringofantasyfootballachiever.com for grenades. We're going to, we're going to figure out how to sharpen this idea for grenades and how to just wield shitty quarterbacks.
97:41Grenades and mid fifties sports podcasters, the hottest. Like who's your competition?
97:44Like Colin. I don't know. Yeah, exactly. Who's my competition?
97:47Stephen A. Exactly. You know, come on. Greeny. Rich Eisen.
97:50There we go. Yeah. He's fast. He's the whisters thing.
97:52All right. Thanks guys. It's your fourth time. Yeah.
97:55Awesome. Thank you. Good to see you. All right.
97:57Thank you to DK. Thank you to Craig. Thank you to Bill for joining us.
98:02Thank you to Gahau who had to set up Bill's setup in the middle of that or else it would never have happened.
98:08Just clutch. Just unbelievable. Gahau the hero. The hero.
98:10The hero. The hero. Thank you, Cam. Thank you, Abu.
98:13Thank you to kill. Thank you, Austin. Thank you, Carlos.

98:19Gmail dot com punishments that people will actually do for the ringer fantasy football league.
98:23Email us grenades and whatever. How to figure that out.
98:26That bill idea for quarterbacks. There's something there. I really do.
98:29There's something there. Really? Something there. It needs. I think you got to make it simple.
98:33We need to be able to explain it in a couple sentences.
98:37It can't just be the whole. I agree. Thank you, Lauren.
98:40Lauren, DK, you want in on the Millennial Bangers, I'm told.
98:43I want back in, baby. I want to keep being able to do this.
98:47You're getting itchy without Lauren. I'm going to give a shout out to our good friend, T.I.
98:51Oh, wow. Whatever you like. 2008. Sure. You can have whatever you like.
98:55Okay. I don't know why, but that just really puts me at, Craig, it's right what you're saying.
99:00It's like a happy song. Things are great. This is the best day ever.
99:04We're drinking. We're gambling. T.I. was so big at this exact time period.
99:08This is because he had live your life. You can have whatever you like.
99:11Which was crazy. Great. Yeah. And then, oh, dude, dead and gone.
99:15Yeah. With Timberlake. Dude, T.I. is a great call, DK.
99:18There are some lyrics in Whatever You Like that are quite provocative, Daniel.
99:21Are they really? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Like what, Craig?
99:24Let's hear it. Look, you can have whatever you like if you're with T.I.
99:28That is the message, and he means it. I don't need to get into the particulars.
99:32Maybe there's people listening with children. But you can look up the lyrics for yourself.
99:36Let's just say things are hot and heavy when you're hanging out with T.I.
99:40You getting all shy now? We once read the entire lyrics of the song My Dick on this show.
99:45Craig, I said put it in my mouth on the last show.
99:49I feel like it's always me doing it, so somebody else needs to do it.
99:53Yeah, DK, read it. DK doesn't get shy about these things.
99:56Brain's so good, I swore you went to college?
99:59What do you mean by that? In the first chorus, kind of read the middle lines in the first chorus.
100:04Is it though? I gas up the jet for you tonight?
100:07No, wait. Hold on. Right before that. Read it, Craig.
100:10It's actually not that bad. I'm just, there was something the other day where like I was talking about something online, and
100:16Liz watched it, and she's like, why is it always you saying that shit?
100:20And I was like, it is always me. Stacks on deck, Patron on ice.
100:24We can pop bottles all night. Baby, you can have whatever you like.
100:27Late nights. Oh, yeah. Okay. Late. I remember this.
100:30Late night sex. So wet and so tight. There we go.
100:33There we go. So wet and so tight. He's just describing, you know, what he's feeling.
100:37Yeah, literally. Yeah. I love song lyrics, man. It's the best.
100:40Late night sex. So wet and so tight. It was worth it for me to hold off.
100:45Good addition though, DK. Yeah. That song just takes me back.
100:48That's all I got. Great. You're a little freak.
