Player insights

59

Aaron Jones

PositiveUsage69:12

Aaron Jones is in an even split with Jordan Mason and scored a goal-line touchdown, though he was not involved in the passing game.

Insight page

Alec Pierce

PositiveUsage61:03

Alec Pierce finished with four catches for 61 yards while playing about half the routes. While he faced tough coverage, the production is enough to keep him as a viable starter for the next few weeks.

Insight page

Amon-Ra St. Brown

PositiveUsage47:25

St. Brown commanded a 36% target share in the Lions' offense, operating primarily underneath with a 5.2-yard ADOT. He remains a focal point of the offense, scoring a touchdown on a pick play in overtime.

Insight page

Baker Mayfield

NegativeProjection73:19

Baker Mayfield struggled with four sacks and a fumble, finishing with 216 yards and no touchdowns.

Insight page

Bryce Young

PositiveProjection24:04

Bryce Young had a fantastic debut with 361 passing yards, three passing touchdowns, and a rushing score. The Panthers' 66% neutral pass rate and willingness to push the ball downfield (6th in air yards per attempt) significantly boosts the outlook for his receivers.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

NegativeUsage78:03

Bucky Irving was part of the Buccaneers' 11-personnel heavy offense, though specific usage details were limited.

Insight page

C.J. Stroud

PositiveProjection38:48

CJ Stroud had a strong debut, going 26-of-38 for 274 yards and two touchdowns. He consistently attacked the middle of the field, completing 14-of-19 passes for 173 yards on in-breaking routes, showing high efficiency against the Bills' defense.

Insight page
NegativeProjection39:57

Stroud was efficient for most of the game, going 14 of 19 for 173 yards on in-breaking throws, but he had a poor end-of-game sequence involving a sack-fumble. Harmon attributes the late-game mistake to a breakdown in protection and carelessness, calling it a 'Baker Mayfield special' moment.

Insight page

Caleb Williams

PositiveProjection20:58

Caleb Williams looked fantastic as a thrower and showed real explosive juice as a runner, including a 29-yard touchdown run. He successfully trimmed weight in the offseason to improve his explosiveness, and his four-touchdown performance confirms he is the centerpiece of the Bears' offense.

Insight page

CeeDee Lamb

NegativeProjection23:11

CeeDee Lamb had a 'weird' game for Dallas, finishing with eight targets, five catches, 44 yards, and a touchdown. Despite the lackluster team performance, he remains a core player in the Cowboys' offense.

Insight page

Chase Brown

NegativeUsage75:49

Chase Brown saw a split in usage between under-center and shotgun formations, but the offense struggled to maintain consistency.

Insight page

Chris Brooks

NegativeUsage65:06

Chris Brooks started the game and was utilized heavily in pass protection due to the Vikings' high blitz rate, limiting his fantasy upside.

Insight page

Chris Godwin

NegativeUsage78:06

Chris Godwin operated as the 'big slot' receiver in the Buccaneers' 11-personnel heavy offense, finishing with four catches for 40 yards.

Insight page

Chris Olave

PositiveProjection50:06

Olave had a productive outing with 10 receptions for 182 yards, though he dealt with recurring injury scares throughout the game. Despite the medical tent visits, he remained a central part of the Saints' explosive second-half passing attack.

Insight page

Christian Watson

PositiveBreakout64:11

Christian Watson showed elite athleticism with an 81-yard touchdown and also scored a red-zone touchdown on an insert block play. He is being used in multiple ways and has significant upside.

Insight page

Chuba Hubbard

PositiveUsage24:48

Chuba Hubbard dominated the Panthers' backfield usage with 13 carries and 26 routes compared to Jonathan Brooks' six carries and six routes. He is the clear lead back in passing situations and is considered a high-value draft pick at his current ADP.

Insight page

Colston Loveland

NegativeUsage28:38

Despite high expectations and a 92% route share, Colson Loveland finished with zero catches on two targets. While he was open for a touchdown that Caleb Williams missed, his lack of involvement in the game plan is concerning for fantasy managers.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

PositiveUsage35:06

DJ Moore led the Bills with an 81% route participation rate and recorded five catches for 101 yards. He was a primary target for Josh Allen down the field, proving his immediate impact on the Buffalo passing attack.

Insight page

D'Andre Swift

PositiveUsage19:44

Matt Harmon notes that D'Andre Swift commanded 61% of the backfield opportunities, suggesting more upside than initially accounted for. Despite running fewer routes than Kyle Manunga (11 vs 16), Swift was a focal point of the offense, and fantasy managers should feel very good about his role after this performance.

Insight page
PositiveUsage33:21

DeAndre Swift handled 61% of the Bears' backfield opportunities in Week 1. While Kyle Manunga ran more routes, Swift's heavy involvement in a high-powered offense keeps him in the conversation for top-12 fantasy running back status.

Insight page

Dalton Kincaid

PositiveUsage36:16

Dalton Kincaid saw a 77% snap share and recorded three catches for 113 yards when lined up out wide. He is finally being utilized as the 'actualized version' of his potential, serving as a major weapon in the Bills' offense.

Insight page

Daniel Jones

NegativeProjection62:06

Daniel Jones had a strong opening drive but struggled significantly afterward, throwing an 'awful' interception and showing little movement in the pocket against a high-pressure defense.

Insight page

Darren Waller

NegativeDepth Chart28:08

Darren Waller has effectively pushed Jatavian Sanders to the inactive list. Waller saw two catches for 28 yards and had a touchdown called back, confirming his role as the primary tight end.

Insight page

David Montgomery

PositiveUsage40:18

Matt Harmon notes that while Montgomery's 20 carries for 60 yards (3.0 YPC) looks underwhelming, his three touchdowns and usage in heavy personnel packages were key. The Texans' rushing success rate of 48.3% was a significant improvement, and Montgomery was the clear goal-line back, which depressed his YPC but provided high fantasy value.

Insight page

Derrick Henry

PositiveProjection56:00

Henry remains highly productive, rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries. He is being utilized effectively in the Ravens' new scheme, including zone-read actions and screen passes, and is on track for a high-touchdown season.

Insight page

Devin Singletary

PositiveUsage9:05

Devin Singletary remains a viable fantasy asset, particularly on passing downs, as he recorded four catches for 22 yards and a touchdown against Dallas. He split routes evenly with Cam Scadaboo (12 routes each) and served as a primary target in the flats.

Insight page

Emeka Egbuka

NegativeUsage78:06

Emeka Egbuka had five catches for 63 yards, but all of his production came in the first half.

Insight page

Isaiah Likely

PositiveUsage15:09

Isaiah Likely emerged as a featured pass-catcher for the Giants, commanding targets on over 50% of his routes. He recorded eight targets, 15 routes, and two touchdowns, establishing himself as a potential fantasy TE1 if his playing time continues to trend upward.

Insight page

Ja'Marr Chase

NegativeBust73:40

Jamar Chase had a 'bust' performance with only two catches for 12 yards on four targets, as the Bengals failed to utilize him effectively.

Insight page

Jahmyr Gibbs

PositiveUsage47:17

Gibbs is described as impossible to defend in fantasy after logging 29 carries and 5 targets for 34 total opportunities. He is firmly established as a centerpiece of the Lions' predictable and high-volume offense.

Insight page

Jalen Coker

PositiveBreakout21:54

Jalen Coker looked like the best wide receiver on the field for the Panthers, creating more separation than Tedderon McMillan. He is a high-upside target who is already being integrated into a pass-heavy offense, making him a viable flex option moving forward.

Insight page

James Cook

NegativeUsage37:38

James Cook was involved early as a receiver, but his overall pass-game role remains limited with only three catches on the day. The Bills' shift toward a more pass-heavy approach under Joe Brady has not significantly increased Cook's target volume yet.

Insight page

Javonte Williams

PositiveUsage20:46

Javante Williams is a solid fantasy RB2 after a strong workload that included 12 carries and five receptions. His ability to contribute in the passing game when the team falls behind provides a high floor for fantasy managers.

Insight page

Jayden Reed

NegativeUsage71:08

Jaden Reed played 64% of routes but saw limited production (3 catches for 20 yards) as the team rotated in multiple tight ends.

Insight page

Joe Burrow

NegativeProjection73:35

Joe Burrow had a disjointed performance, throwing a pick-six and failing to push the ball downfield to his top receivers.

Insight page

Jonathan Taylor

PositiveProjection60:42

Jonathan Taylor looked excellent despite the team's offensive struggles, recording 19 carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeUsage26:05

Jonathan Brooks is currently being used as an early-down, change-of-pace back rather than a primary pass-catching option. While he had a big 48-yard reception, his limited snap count on third and fourth downs indicates he is currently behind Chuba Hubbard in the pecking order.

Insight page

Jordan Addison

NegativeUsage71:12

Jordan Addison had a 'goose egg' performance with zero catches on two targets.

Insight page

Jordan Mason

PositiveUsage69:12

Jordan Mason is in an even split with Aaron Jones and scored a goal-line touchdown, though he was not involved in the passing game.

Insight page

Josh Downs

NegativeUsage60:16

Josh Downs had a strong opening drive with two key third-down conversions, including a 25-yard shake route and a 12-yard gain. However, he finished with only two catches for 37 yards on 48 of 54 snaps, which was disappointing given the high snap share.

Insight page

Justin Jefferson

PositiveProjection70:06

Justin Jefferson remains highly productive regardless of the quarterback, with a higher floor this year. He is the focal point of the Vikings' passing game.

Insight page

Kalif Raymond

PositiveRole31:16

Khalif Raymond played 95% of three-wide receiver sets and finished with eight catches for 84 yards. His role appears to be a permanent, valuable fixture in the Bears' offense that was not anticipated by the market.

Insight page

Keenan Allen

NegativeUsage62:52

Keenan Allen played 36 of 54 snaps and finished with six catches for 32 yards, a low-yardage output that warrants monitoring.

Insight page

Kendre Miller

PositiveUsage52:24

Miller surprisingly earned a legitimate role in the Saints' backfield, splitting early-down work with Travis Etienne and even receiving goal-line opportunities. His involvement was unexpected given the team's depth chart expectations.

Insight page

Lamar Jackson

PositiveProjection57:03

Jackson looked poised and comfortable in the new Ravens offense, contributing both as a passer and a runner. He scored a rushing touchdown and showed mobility, appearing fully healthy and capable of high-end fantasy production.

Insight page

Mark Andrews

NegativeUsage59:26

Mark Andrews looked similar to his performance in recent years, which is better than the 'disaster' reports from training camp suggested. He benefited from pre-snap motion and play-action misdirection, which helped him avoid man coverage. He remains effective at finding soft spots in zone coverage, though he offers little after the catch.

Insight page
NegativeUsage60:00

Andrews saw six targets and remains a reliable option for finding soft spots in zone coverage, though he offers little after the catch. He is viewed as a lower-end tight end play who benefits from the Ravens' play-action and misdirection schemes.

Insight page

MarShawn Lloyd

NegativeUsage67:09

Marshawn Lloyd is a potential flex option for the next two weeks, but he is not an RB2. He is described as 'dancey' with jump cuts that can be excessive, and he is not trusted in pass protection.

Insight page

Matthew Golden

PositiveUsage64:43

Matthew Golden saw 12 targets and played most of the snaps, proving he can be a consistent contributor in the Packers' offense.

Insight page

Matthew Hibner

PositiveUsage60:00

Matthew Hibner saw limited involvement but managed to record a catch for 13 yards.

Insight page

Mike Gesicki

PositiveUsage73:43

Mike Gesicki led the Bengals in receiving with five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, primarily operating out of the slot.

Insight page

Nico Collins

PositiveUsage43:24

Nico Collins is the clear alpha wide receiver for the Texans, evidenced by his 88% route share, which was the only one above 70% on the team. Harmon notes that the entire offense revolves around him, and he remains the primary target despite a committee approach for the WR2 role.

Insight page

Rashod Bateman

PositiveBust58:58

Bateman failed to record a catch on his lone target, even with other Ravens receivers missing time. Matt Harmon suggests he is no longer a viable fantasy option.

Insight page

Rome Odunze

NegativeUsage28:28

Rome Odunze had a quiet debut with two catches for 52 yards, but analysts expect his role to grow as he gains more practice time and chemistry with Caleb Williams. He remains a must-start player despite the slow start.

Insight page

Travis Etienne

NegativeUsage52:24

Etienne's stock is down after splitting early-down work with Kendra Miller and seeing Miller take goal-line snaps. While he recorded a career-high nine targets due to negative game script, the loss of snaps to Miller is a significant concern for his fantasy outlook.

Insight page

Tucker Kraft

NegativeUsage68:11

Tucker Kraft is currently in a part-time rotation, playing 20 of 46 routes. While he is capable of explosives, he is currently an upside TE2 rather than a must-start TE1.

Insight page

Tyler Warren

NegativeUsage60:46

Tyler Warren played 50 of 54 snaps but was largely used as a blocker to account for defensive pressure, resulting in a late touchdown and limited overall involvement.

Insight page

Tyrone Tracy

NegativeRole10:36

Tyron Tracy struggled to earn trust in the Giants' backfield, committing mistakes every time he was on the field, which limited his opportunity behind Cam Scadaboo.

Insight page

Zay Flowers

PositiveBreakout54:58

Flowers looked explosive, recording 5 catches for 150 yards and a touchdown in the first half before exiting with a hamstring strain. His usage, including being moved into the backfield, suggests he is a major part of the Ravens' new offensive scheme.

0:00Big show for you here today. Oh, and my God, it is the biggest show that's ever occurred here on this feed.
0:07It is our first full house. Yeah, that's what I'm going to call it.
0:11The full house. Week 1 Sunday Slate Recap. I get you started with a little solo Sunday night recap.
0:16Yeah, some things change here, but more stay the same.
0:19And then I am still talking to myself here on late Sunday night, giving you guys everything you need to know from Giants Cowboys.
0:27My God. The Giants just ran the big boys out.
0:29They sat on the football and they just sat on the Dallas Cowboys and never relented.
0:34Okay, so big impressive win by the New York Giants.
0:37What we need to know fantasy takeaways on both sides of those.
0:41I give you everything in the solo Sunday night football recap.
0:44Then we throw to the rest of the show where it's me.
0:48It's Josh. It's Hayden. It's Ray Garvin recapping everything you need to know from Week 1's Sunday Slate.
0:53We've got massive performances to talk about here. The Bears go absolutely crazy, but some of their mainstay players stay quiet.
0:59I'll talk you through a Bills Texans game where both offenses looked pretty good and the Saints and Lions throughout a very
1:06strange game where a lot of fantasy players did eventually being the key word get home.
1:11Also Cardinals curious. Oh my God. We've never flown higher all that and more cut up on today's show.
1:16Let's get into it. What's going on everyone. I'm Matt Harmon.
1:20Welcome to the Yahoo fantasy forecast and it is.
1:22Oh boy. It is a hell of a night to talk ball the solo live Sunday night football recap.
1:28Yeah, that's right for the other games Thursday Monday.
1:31Even when we have Wednesday. You know Hayden Winks is going to sit in with me, but he's busy over on football 301.
1:37So I am back as we've always been here.
1:40You and I recapping these games solo on Sunday night, but we're doing it live this year, which is extremely exciting.
1:46If you're watching along with us on YouTube right now, make sure you subscribe, leave a comment, you know, chat along here.
1:53Cause we're going to have some fun with these solo Sunday night football recaps.
1:57As we had a really fun and exciting week one.
2:00It was amazing. It was incredible. I mean, I got to say, right.
2:04One thing off the top here before we get into Sunday night football and we will get into Sunday night football, a
2:10very humbling end of Sunday for your boy. I mean, my God, I had a great time all night with, you know, Jalen Coker balling out.
2:18You know, we had my guys, Octavian Wicks scoring a big touchdown.
2:22It was a great day to be me. And, you know, for some of my takes, it was awesome.
2:27I had a, I had a great Sunday and what a humbling end.
2:31It was a reminder that football always will bring you back down to earth because I predicted that the Cowboys would smack
2:38around the giants on Sunday night football. I think I said it to Josh multiple times on the preview show on fantasy
2:44football live this morning and could not have been more wrong because the giants, I think even though they won 28 to
2:5120, I think they pretty much embarrassed Dallas in this game tonight.
2:55And you know, it was, we'll start as we always do here on these solo recaps with the team that won the
3:01football game, by the way, shout out to producer JB great stat.
3:05He pulled before this one, the jets and giants are both one and Oh, it is the first time that they have
3:11both won their season openers since 2009. What were you guys doing in 2009?
3:15I was a freshman in college. Okay. Spoiler alert.
3:18I'm not a freshman in college anymore. I'm much, much older than that.
3:22This was quite a long time ago. This was quite a long time ago, 2009.
3:26Okay. So shout out to the New York teams.
3:29Both of them want to know, including the giants who, like I said, I think they really embarrassed Dallas on this one.
3:36They embarrassed me for, you know, my takes on the Dallas Cowboys here heading into week number one.
3:41And they really did it by, I don't, I say this.
3:44If you guys caught my Malachi fields video where I was making a slot bowl dinner while my wife was out of
3:51town, it was a little solo Instagram, Tik TOK.
3:54I put it on Twitter style video. I called Malachi fields, like a slot bowl wide receiver complimentary.
3:59You know, what I mean by a slot bowl is it's leftover sweet potatoes.
4:03It's leftover chicken. It's like a steamed vegetable. You throw it on a bowl and you eat it and boom, there you go.
4:10Okay. It's, it's not flashy, but it's nutritious and it gets the job done.
4:14And I kind of feel like this entire victory for New York tonight was like a slot bowl performance on offense by
4:21the New York giants, not flashy, but they got the job done.
4:24Okay. Check this bad boy out here. We're showing on the screen.
4:28If you're watching along with us on YouTube, if you're on the audio feed, I'll read it off for you here.
4:3433.8% of their snaps in 11 personnel, according to Sumer sports for the New York giants tonight, that was almost 13% lower
4:41than the NFL average 12.3% usage in 12 personnel, 18.5% in 21 personnel, 13 personnel, 3.1, but 22 personnel, 20%.
4:47Like the giants got the big boys on the field and said, you are not going to get in our way.
4:53And they did not really get in their way all night.
4:56Did this newly remade Dallas Cowboys defense with Christian Parker and all these new interesting players on the other side of it.
5:03They forgot that running backs are eligible wide receivers in not just today's NFL, but forever in the NFL, the Cowboys, I
5:09believe they allowed the giants to convert nine of 10 for a third downs for first downs in this game tonight.
5:15Embarrassing effort by the Cowboys defense here. This wasn't as disgustingly horrible on the backend as Dallas's defense was last year, but
5:22it was really up in the front seven. What were we doing here?
5:26At one point, Nate Tice had the stat that the giants Jackson dart five of five for 40 yards and two touchdowns
5:32when throwing to the flats to the flats folks.
5:35That's what happened tonight with the Dallas Cowboys trying to stop this giants passing game again, mostly to the running backs.
5:41Looking at the box score here really tells the whole story.
5:45When we're looking at these running backs here, Devin Singletary for catches, 22 yards and a touchdown in this game.
5:51Pat Ricard really the name we haven't mentioned yet, by the way, Pat Ricard, just this 300 pound monster fullback that followed
5:57John Harbaugh from Baltimore to New York. This was something again, I was skeptical about just the brain trust, right?
6:03Between the great at some point we'll, we'll flash through here.
6:06Great tweet. Well, it didn't age well for Steven Ruiz.
6:09My buddy over there used to be with the ringer.
6:12He's now with Fox did not age really well, but you know, just the brain trust of Matt Nagy, Greg Roman up
6:19there in the booth for the New York giants, man.
6:22Those guys cooked up a pretty good game plan with just these big heavy personnel bodies, Pat Ricard in there as the
6:28fullback, just mashing these guys over 17, 18 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown for Cam Scadaboo.
6:34He was the lead running back by a mile.
6:36Tyron Tracy made another mistake in this game. I mean, Tyron Tracy, it's like, come on, man.
6:42Every single time we get him on the field, it's some level of a mistake for the New York giants running back.
6:48You know, Cam Scadaboo kept that ball moving, man.
6:51He just kept things moving down the field. 18 touches in this game.
6:55As I mentioned, 60% of the running back rushes, running back touches went to Cam Scadaboo.
6:5969% of the running back rushes went to Scadaboo.
7:02He had 67% of the touches inside the five yard line as well.
7:06Great first game back. As Mike Florio says here, you'd love to see more pass game usage.
7:11I agree. You would love to see that, but for now, really good.
7:15Just kind of showing for him in this big mauling offense that we have here with the New York giants.
7:21And, you know, ultimately I do think Singletary is going to continue to mix in here, mostly on passing downs.
7:27He has, you know, 12 routes, same as Cam Scadaboo in this game.
7:31More targets. Of course, as I mentioned, he was just a monster in the flats.
7:35That's unbelievable stuff there from Cam Scadaboo and Devin Singletary.
7:38Just kind of combining to be a pretty useful tandem.
7:41I would say from a fantasy standpoint, you know, this is not great for Cam Scadaboo.
7:46It was like running back one ceiling, but he can be a very viable running back two.
7:51If that's what you're looking for, like it's different usage than what we got from him when he was smoking people at one point in his rookie year.
7:59It is definitely different. It's less check downs and more of the true running back work.
8:04But I think this is probably good enough if we're looking at him as a, you know, we'll call him, like I
8:11said, running back to 3.08 yards after contact per rush attempt for Cam Scadaboo.
8:15I think that really tells you what he was doing here.
8:18That's sort of what we expected in the passing game for the New York Giants.
8:23You know, I think Jackson Dart just was careful with the football all night.
8:27Didn't really put things in harm's way. Wasn't too reckless overall.
8:30I think that was good to see. Really catchable footballs all night from Jackson Dart.
8:34I think he throws a really nice catchable football for these pass catchers.
8:38He kind of lays things out pretty well. I do think, you know, there are some things you can still point at
8:45his game, little nits to pick here and there.
8:48But in a game like this where you're getting these big bodies out on the field, you're getting high leverage looks.
8:54You're going to go ahead and just throw that catchable football out there and continue to keep the ball moving down the field.
9:01Malik Neighbors did play in this game tonight. Haven't mentioned his name just yet.
9:05He was targeted on 44% of his routes. Average over three yards per route run.
9:09Him and Isaiah likely were the featured players in the passing game.
9:13Not a full compliment of snaps for really anyone in this game.
9:16Darnell Mooney leads the team in routes. But it was Neighbors.
9:20It was Neighbors. It was Isaiah likely. And I think that we're going to continue to see that going forward.
9:26I mean, Neighbors is only going to get healthier as we go through the season.
9:30He made some people miss in the open field today.
9:33He probably had another one where he was really upset that he kind of got tackled at this weird angle and brought down there.
9:40I think we're going to only see more and more from Neighbors.
9:44Nine targets, six catches, 69 yards. Again, Isaiah likely was the other featured player here.
9:48Target on over 50% of his routes. Eight targets, 15 routes in this one.
9:52Two touchdowns. You do want to see the playing time bump up for likely for sure if he's going to continue to be this fantasy tight end one.
10:01That being said, this is a really strong debut from him.
10:04And a lot of just work out in the flats, out in the open field, as we mentioned here.
10:10So yeah, games with two-plus touchdowns for Isaiah likely and over 70 yards were shown on the screen.
10:15We got one here with the New York Giants.
10:18We got zero with the Baltimore Ravens. So nice signing him and Patrick Card following John Harbaugh from Baltimore over to New York.
10:25Again, I would say the fantasy takeaways here is you kind of know that there's no other wide receiver in the mix for this team.
10:32Darnell Mooney wasn't that guy. My guy, Malachi Fields, had a couple key catches, key blocks as well.
10:37That's good to see from Malachi Fields. But even him, he's just going to be a role player on this team.
10:44Odell Beckham obviously is kind of a mascot slash role player for this team as well.
10:48It really is just neighbors and Isaiah likely and the rest of the guys will keep moving from there.
10:54Now, of course, I am interested to see what will happen for the Giants if and when they get pushed into a different game script with this team.
11:02Will we see what it looks like when Jackson Dart has to open it up, when they have to play more 11 personnel?
11:09But I think what we saw tonight is that they want to live with these bigger bodies on the field, create mismatches,
11:16and really be a physical downhill run team. And for one night here in week one, they absolutely lived in the identity
11:22that Greg Roman wants them to live in, that John Harbaugh wants them to live in, that Matt Nagy is certainly willing
11:29to go along for the ride with that whole operation.
11:32So definitely a great debut for the 2026 New York Giants.
11:35Made me look like an idiot for saying they were going to get worked on national television.
11:40Speaking of making me look like an idiot, let's talk about the Dallas Cowboys here who definitely did not shine in this game tonight.
11:47I mean, my God, like I said, defensively, it was brutal.
11:51Okay, but let's talk about some of the miscues on the offensive side here.
11:55You know, Dak's interception was definitely a turning moment in the game.
11:59George Pickens letting a couple passes slip through his hands in the game earlier on in the first half.
12:04Those are missed opportunities that you're going to want to get back.
12:08In the second half, the offense, like, what do you really want them to do?
12:12You know, they get two drives. They score on both drives.
12:15That's it. Otherwise, the Giants were just bigger. They were more physical and they just sat on the football and kept it away from Dallas.
12:23I don't really have any big overarching fantasy takes with the New York Giants, excuse me, with the Dallas Cowboys offense here coming out of this one.
12:31Because, I mean, ultimately, I think we still know where the football is going.
12:35It's where the football went tonight. You know, it's still the main players here.
12:39They just didn't have a good night. Guys made mistakes at the catch point.
12:43Dak threw an interception that you can't really throw.
12:46Javante Williams scores a touchdown. That was great. He scores two touchdowns.
12:50One through the air. One on the ground. The one that goes in the second half, I mean, it's just like, come on, dude.
12:57We can't. We can't be doing that. All right?
13:00We cannot have the taunting penalty. I know it's silly.
13:03I know it's needless. But everybody knows it's a rule.
13:06Everybody on earth knows it's a rule. You can't do that.
13:09You cost the extra point. That kick ends up getting missed from Brandon Aubrey.
13:13And there we go. Like, come on. We can't have that, Javante.
13:17But still, obviously, really strong workload for him. He has 12 carries.
13:20Amari Di Mercado, the nominal second running back after Malik Davis went on IR.
13:24You know, he gets two carries. Like, it's going to be Javante Williams all the way.
13:29This is a game that really makes you feel good about Javante because when they fall behind, he has five catches just in his back pocket.
13:37So, yeah, Javante Williams. Feel good about him coming out of here as a running back two in fantasy football.
13:43You know, just a weird game from George Pickens.
13:45You know, a couple mistakes at the catch point here.
13:48Like, George, we have not signed that contract extension yet.
13:51I don't know about that one. I wouldn't call it a perfect outing from CeeDee Lamb either.
13:56But he gets eight targets, five catches, 44 yards, scores the touchdown.
14:00Just a weird game from Dallas here. And I'm hoping that it's nothing.
14:04I'm hoping, like, okay, this offense can just return next week and absolutely get back to work.
14:09We'll see if that happens because this is supposed to be one of those inner circle teams.
14:14We can trust everybody on offense. We know what they're going to do.
14:18And we just keep it moving from there. Now, week two, commanders secondary.
14:22I watched the commanders, and we're going to talk about this later in the show.
14:26Just, you know, couldn't cover people on the back end.
14:29All right. Dontavian Wicks, as I mentioned. Dontavian Wicks, my guy.
14:33He put Mikey Sanders still into a blender in this game.
14:36I mean, it was insane. They couldn't keep up with Dallas Goddard running like a 5-3-40.
14:41Okay. So, the commander secondary probably can be what ails, can fix what ails this Dallas Cowboys passing game.
14:46Feel pretty good about that. Schedule after that, though, a little more difficult.
14:50Ravens, Texans, we're going to need better from this Dallas Cowboys passing game.
14:54Period. End of story. If these guys are going to be fantasy football difference makers.
14:58It just felt flat here in week one for Dallas.
15:01Felt really flat. Honestly, I don't do the, you know, sort of meta analysis.
15:06Like, let's try to read into this too much.
15:08It's just like, one team looked like they showed up and really wanted it tonight, and one team didn't.
15:14I know that's dumb. Obviously, players on Dallas wanted to win this football game.
15:18But, if you are prone, if you are akin to that type of analysis, like, listen, one team just wants it more than the other.
15:26I certainly felt like one of those teams tonight played with a lot more heart and wanted it more than the other.
15:32So, disappointing game for the Dallas Cowboys. There's no question about that.
15:36Okay, that is your solo Sunday night football recap.
15:38We've got a big show for you here coming up.
15:41Okay? If you're listening to us on the audio side of things, you are going to hear me, Josh, Hayden, and Ray
15:48break down everything that you need to know coming out of week one.
15:52If you're watching with us on YouTube, that is the end of the show.
15:56But, make sure to check out our full YouTube breakdown.
15:59It's on the Josh and Hayden channel right now.
16:02If you're watching this live, you can go check that video out right now.
16:06So, listen. You don't need to go to bed.
16:08Okay? It's on our channel as well. It's cross-posted.
16:11That's how YouTube works. Okay? So, you can just...
16:14This video is going to end. You're going to hop right over to that video.
16:18Pretty epic stuff. Okay? You don't need to go to bed.
16:22Midnight? Your football juices are flowing. All right? My football juices are flowing.
16:25I'm supposed to go to bed right now after all that adrenaline?
16:29I don't think so. All right. That's going to do it for this solo Sunday night recap.
16:34Now, let's start to the rest of the show with me, Josh, Hayden, and Ray Garvin recapping everything you need to know from week one's Sunday slate.
16:42Let's get into it. Oh, yes. We are back with the best fantasy football game-by-game recap show in the world.
16:48And it's even better this year because I've got some buddies to join us.
16:52Matt Harmon, Ray Garvin, our new co-host, co-workers, everything of the sort here at Yahoo.
16:57Hayden, but first, I want to throw it to you.
17:00You know, we do months and months, almost 100 episodes this summer of research.
17:04And it's very cool in week one when Khalif Raymond goes eight catches for 84 yards and Jamar Chase two catches for 12 yards.
17:11How do you feel? Well, if you told me the Bears would have had 59 points, you'd probably be taking Luther Byrd
17:18and Colson Loveland in, what, the first and second round.
17:21And then, of course, we actually get the results and we realize half of our takes are wrong.
17:26Yes. Well, let's not waste any more time and dive first into that game that Ray has a hold of.
17:32As, you know, Ben Johnson a couple weeks ago in a press conference, Ray said that he wants his offense to set
17:38the NFL record in points for a season. That would be the 2013 Denver Broncos at 39 per contest.
17:44Ray, Caleb Williams, Ben Johnson and company dropped 59 on this Carolina Panthers defense.
17:48How they do it. Can we just start by saying, wow, what a freaking game.
17:5359 points by the Bears. And you talk about how they did it.
17:57Josh, 70 plays, 552 yards, 7.9 yards per play for the Chicago Bears.
18:00And if you would have told me that was going to happen coming into the week, I would have been like Loveland smashed.
18:07Odunze smashed, Burden smashed. I think they combined for a grand total of seven receptions between the three pass catchers there.
18:14But just Chicago, this was such a great game plan by Ben Johnson and the Bears.
18:18You would think that they just went around and threw the ball all over the place.
18:2355% rush rate to 44% pass rate, 48% neutral pass rate for the Bears.
18:27They had two 100-yard rushers in this matchup and they set a litany of records.
18:3296 combined points, most in NFL history for week one.
18:35The Bears, 291 rushing yards and six touchdowns since 1999.
18:38This is only the second team performance combining six plus rushing TDs with two 100-yard rushers joining the 2017 Saints.
18:44I mean, it was, I'm just watching it, y'all.
18:46And I'm just going to say this, just watching the game, watching the way that Caleb played, the way that they ran the ball.
18:53This didn't look like a year three, like kind of level up for Caleb Williams.
18:58I mean, he looked in total command of this offense.
19:01And it looks like he's playing like, it's one weekend, y'all.
19:04But MVP caliber football, just the command, the poise, their ability to run the ball.
19:09Outstanding performance from Chicago's offensive side of the ball.
19:11Let's not overlook the fact that they also gave up 52 points on the defensive side.
19:16But offensively, flawless game plan by Ben Johnson. It's going to feel like a big 12 offense and defense for Chicago.
19:22I like starting with the running backs here. I'm looking at it.
19:26Both of them had over two yards before contact.
19:29One, that's an issue for the Carolina Panthers. They spent a lot of money on that defensive line and linebacker group this offseason.
19:35The Bears still putting it together. Question to you, Ray.
19:38If DeAndre Swift and Kyle Manunga kind of do this drive-by-drive rotation, I'm assuming that's what happened here.
19:44If the Bears really are a top three offense this year, can we get DeAndre Swift as a top 12 fantasy running back here?
19:51He was drafted just outside that, but he was somebody climbing up ADP.
19:55And by the end of it, everyone kind of felt really good about him as a mid to high fourth rounder.
20:01Yeah, Swift 61% of the backfield opportunities compared to 38.7% for Kyle Manunga.
20:05The interesting thing, Hayden, was Manunga ran five more routes than Swift.
20:0916 routes on the day to 11 routes for DeAndre Swift.
20:12So you would think that that number would be flipped a little bit, but the way that they blocked, I mean, they completely dominated the line of scrimmage.
20:20Caleb Williams was not under pressure a lot in this game.
20:23I think there's some more upside to DeAndre Swift's game than maybe we accounted for coming into this season.
20:29So I'm going to say the way that we saw them play, the balance of the attack.
20:34And I know it felt like kind of they alternated drives, but it was a lot of Swift early.
20:40Again, 61% of the backfield opportunities. Yeah, if you drafted Swift, you got to be feeling pretty damn good right now after this game.
20:47Yeah, I mean, the 61-yarder for Kyle Manunga happened super late, Matt.
20:51I mean, for me, the question is, how does the defense stop this version if the Bears are going on and on and on about this?
20:58Like, Caleb Williams, obviously, as a thrower, was fantastic.
21:01Matt, I'm sure you saw, like, the alley-oop pass.
21:04He had to roam with Dunze along the sideline.
21:06Luther Burden can now sit in zone coverage and win in isolated situations.
21:10But what stood out to me was Caleb Williams, also on a 29-yard touchdown run, that he avoids sacks, avoids pressure, shows
21:17some, like, real juice to his game. So, Matt, while we argued about all these pieces around Caleb Williams, at the end
21:23of the day, I felt like this was the Caleb Williams show with four total touchdowns he had to hand in.
21:30So, I would totally agree with that. And the bit that I got to see from this game, he looked so fast
21:36when he would take – like, when he was decisive and got out of there.
21:41You know, he talked about this, that he lost some weight in the offseason, wanted to trim down to be more explosive.
21:47And, I mean, one week in, definitely checked that box to me.
21:51But, Ray, I mean, listen, I got to ask you.
21:54Wide receiver one overall on the week, Jalen Coker, I mean, can we have a moment for that?
21:59Like, let's not take it away from me here like five minutes into the show.
22:04I realize it is the carnival team. You know, shout out Scott Pienowski, and he and I were talking about that today.
22:10We've officially decided the Bears are the carnival team of this season.
22:14So, all that caveat, you know, mentioned here, still pretty impressive performance for our guy, Jalen Coker, Ray.
22:19Yeah, I'm going to be real with y'all. I'm going to be real with y'all.
22:23Just watching the flow of the game, watching those two wide receivers on the field, if you wouldn't have told me one
22:30was a first-round pick and one was an undrafted free agent, I mean, Coker looked great.
22:35Full stop. Full stop. I mean, he looked better.
22:37He looked better than I expected. And, Matt, you know we talked about it early in the offseason.
22:43I was big on Coker. I had him projected quite high.
22:46He looked like the best wide receiver on the field.
22:49Now, Jalen Johnson was covering Tedderon McMillan quite a bit.
22:52T-Mac had an issue where he got the ball punched out.
22:55And Coker looked great. And the way they moved him around, I'm cautiously optimistic on them moving forward and Coker being as
23:02big of a factor in that offense. But there's nobody else a consequence, man.
23:06I know Waller got a few early. Mitchell Evans got in the zone later.
23:10But it combined for 50% of the target share is Jalen Coker and Tedderon McMillan.
23:15So it was a concentrated offense. But Jalen Coker looked fantastic.
23:18Full stop. Ray, I'll take that a step further.
23:21I'm going to go back and rewatch this game.
23:23But just watching it live, Jalen Coker was simply creating more separation than Tedderon McMillan was.
23:28And, you know, I think it was one of the under-discussed topics of the offseason.
23:33And we love to focus in on these tiny little tidbits.
23:36That T-Mac gained 12 to 15 pounds this offseason.
23:39Has that impacted his separation skills? You know? Meanwhile, Jalen Coker wins on a, you know, 51-yard touchdown down the field in kind of an out-and-up situation.
23:47Brad Idzik loved that he was, you know, putting the, really the game in Bryce Young's hands early and often.
23:53And allowing him to throw down the field and take these shot plays.
23:56It took these offenses, the Panthers offense, too many weeks, too many months to do that in previous years.
24:02And, Ray, I thought Bryce Young stepped up to the plate.
24:05Had a fantastic game, all things considered. 361 yards, three touchdowns, and then another rushing score on the ground.
24:11When he juked the heck out of Jalen Johnson at the touchdown line.
24:15Josh, Bryce Young looked great. Bryce Young didn't give up 50 points, all right?
24:19And the one interception came with 20 seconds left in the half.
24:23And he was targeting Jalen Coker on that play to try to get him the ball to push the ball downfield right before half.
24:30But you're talking about a team 66% neutral pass rate on the day for the Carolina Panthers.
24:35If there were one thing that I wish they could have committed to a little bit more was the ground game.
24:41They did not run the ball much in this one.
24:44But, Hayden, you might like this one because I know you're a big Chuba guy.
24:49It was like a lot of Chuba Hubbard. I know Jonathan Brooks had the big play down the field.
24:54But we're talking about 13 carries to six for Hubbard to Jonathan Brooks.
24:58And then 26 routes for Chuba Hubbard to only six for Jonathan Brooks.
25:02And if Bryce would have hit him on another wheel route, he probably would have had another 30, 40 yards down the field.
25:09But the backfield, if they could run the ball a little bit more, find some more balance, I'm not there yet to
25:15say Bryce Young has arrived in year four and he's going to level up to another degree.
25:20But it definitely felt like in this game, without the presence of a wide receiver three and a tight end of consequence,
25:27that he can support McMillan and Jalen Coker both.
25:30Yeah, Jalen Coker, once he was a full-time player last year, he was about the wide receiver 34, 9.5 PPR points per game in that contest.
25:37That's another win for him. I will say with the Bears, I think the drop off from Jalen Johnson to their rest
25:44of the secondary until Kyler Gordon, those guys, gets back.
25:47It's something that we have to note in our matchups column.
25:50And obviously, the Jalen Coker double move was against Tyreek Stephens.
25:53It's just something to keep in the back of my mind, not taking anything away from Coker.
25:59I would say the other big thing with that rotation that was surprising to me is I thought it was going to
26:05be Chuba as a starter, but I thought it was going to be Jonathan Brooks kind of in the secondary role on passing situations.
26:12On third and fourth downs, it was Chuba Hubbard eight snaps and Jonathan Brooks only one of the snaps.
26:18So Jonathan Brooks was like an early down kind of change of pace guy.
26:22He was not this kind of like base down back, pass down back.
26:26That was a lie. It's pretty much all Chuba Hubbard until proven otherwise to the point if you guys got Chuba Hubbard
26:33somewhere in like the hundreds, I think this might be one of the best picks that you guys could have made.
26:39Yeah, two touchdowns for Chuba Hubbard on the day.
26:41The 48-yard reception for Jonathan Brooks was another fantastic off-structure play by Bryce Young, where he basically points him up the field,
26:48up the sideline, throws it on an absolute laser of him down the field, kind of in a tight window area.
26:54So that was a really nice connection there on top of it.
26:58Just final point on Jalen Coker. Last year, he was supposed to be a starting two wide receiver set player for this
27:04team, then suffers the quad injury that lasts for like six to eight weeks.
27:09And Matt, you know this. I'm like the final 40 targets of the season, including the playoffs.
27:14Jalen Coker has simply outperformed Ted O'Neill on that stuff.
27:17Yep. And I understand what you're saying, Hayden, about the Bears defense being questionable on the back end.
27:22The Panthers also get the Atlanta Falcons next week.
27:25You know, this team has torn up the Atlanta Falcons secondary in the past.
27:29So this might be one of those situations, Matt, where we go from, hey, awesome playoff game, 100 plus yards and two
27:35scores to another awesome first week to actually starting Jalen Coker in the flex next week.
27:40I don't see why not. Like, especially if the offense is going to push the ball down the field.
27:46Bryce Young was sixth in the average air yards per pass attempt this week among quarterbacks.
27:51Like, if he's going to do that, then yeah, it's wheels up for Coker because I said this during the offseason.
27:57Like, this is one of the best young receivers in football.
28:00There's no need like UDFA cutesy caveats or anything.
28:03He's just been straight up a baller since he's hit the field.
28:06Right. Just a couple quick notes in this. Darren Waller basically put Jatavian Sanders on the inactive list.
28:12Darren Waller had two catches for 28 yards. Also had an end zone catch that was called back for a touchdown on,
28:18I think, a really ticky tacky offensive pass interference penalty.
28:21Ray, I do want to ask you quickly just about the Bears receivers because Luther Burden pops up for five for 63.
28:28Romadun's a two for 52 with an awesome 47 yarder along the right sideline.
28:32We mentioned that Cleef Raymond eight for eight, 84.
28:35And that leaves us with nothing for Colson Loveland on two targets.
28:38A big fat goose egg. I know you haven't gone back and rewatched the tape or any of that stuff.
28:44But how the heck does Colson Loveland, who was drafted the highest of any of these pass catchers, end up with nothing?
28:51I honestly have nothing for you, man. I've got nothing for you.
28:54It was very obvious at the beginning of that game that Cole Komet was going to be a part of the offense.
29:01Whether you like it or not, he's on the field.
29:04They were motioning him out of the backfield. They were motioning him into the slot.
29:08Like he was a part of the offense. Colson Loveland, they tried to hit him.
29:13When they got down the goal line, it was probably, I think, in the second quarter.
29:18He was open for a touchdown. Caleb Williams missed him.
29:21It was an interception that was overturned doing an offsides to Derrick Brown.
29:24It just didn't look like he was a part of the offensive game plan in this one, which it's a little concerning.
29:31Our man, Zane Dayani, is that his last name?
29:34If I'm butchering Zane's last name. Here's what he said.
29:37Here's what he said about the Bears. Colson Loveland, 92% route share.
29:4013%, 13.5%, 13.5 ADOT for nearly all one tight end sets.
29:43In two tight end sets, 34% slot rate. Luther Burden, 71% route share.
29:47A lot of his stuff was a lot shorter.
29:5050% route share in two wide receiver sets. And then Romo Dunze, 58% route share.
29:5463% in two wide receiver sets. I think my takeaway from this one, y'all, is I don't really know what to make
30:01of the usage of the Bears wide receivers because none of them really had the type of game that anybody was anticipating.
30:08And yet they put up 60 damn points. So it's one of these things where you're probably going to play all three again.
30:14You're absolutely going to play all three again. I hate to say it's incomplete when they put up 59 points, but I
30:21don't know what we take from this moving forward.
30:24Do I think Loveland is a zero moving forward?
30:26Absolutely not. Do I think Rome's only going to have two receptions?
30:30No. Luther Burden fumbled the ball early in the game.
30:33So it was just, it was clear that this game plan was establish it, establish it, establish it.
30:38And Caleb Williams, his threat with the legs. I think that kind of hurts the receivers and the tight ends to a degree at times.
30:46Josh, I would note that I feel like we do need to get a sample here when Roma Dunze has like a full week of practice.
30:53You know, he told me in January and February of last year that the thing that he felt was most disruptive to
31:00him was not missing, like not the injury playing through it last year, but actually just the routine and the disruption of the practice time.
31:07So I think that's probably something we need here.
31:10And as for Loveland, like I watched both of his targets that Caleb Williams delivered to him.
31:15Those are probably like his two worst throws of the day, just in terms of ball placement and accuracy.
31:21So that's just a, I mean, look, you don't want two targets anyways, still a little bit just unfortunate there.
31:27But I would say that the guy that has probably, if you're, and I'm not concerned about any of these guys, but
31:33you know, the most concerning maybe usage was Luther Burden, who wasn't like a full-time player in a lot of the two receiver set stuff.
31:41So that's the one I think we need to dig into the most for stats versus film later.
31:46And let me just say this, y'all. Olamide Zaccheaus was getting targets last year and he had a specified role.
31:52I'm not predicting that Khalif Raymond leads this team and targets an opportunity, but it felt a hell of a lot more
31:59than just like coincidence or luck that he got the opportunity that he did.
32:03Like he did not run the same route. He did not run the same routes as Luther Burden or Roma Dunze.
32:09It felt like he's got some kind of role in this offense that nobody predicted would be there.
32:14Ray, just to kind of wrap this one up, Khalif Raymond, 95% of three wide receiver sets he was on the field for.
32:21That's a very valuable role. That's the exact role that you guys are talking about.
32:26The new name I was not expecting, Jaday Walker.
32:28He led all Bears wide receivers in the non-three wide receiver set snaps.
32:3271% of those went to him. I think that when Roma Dunze goes to full-time, Walker snaps will come down.
32:38But Walker was actually the one that was getting in the way of Luther Burden in this game.
32:44So just something to watch, something that I would guess nobody was really expecting.
32:48I'll just end this by pointing a finger at the Panthers defense coordinator, Edgero Evero.
32:52He has some questions to answer for here. Okay.
32:55I mean, this is the same DC that two seasons ago coached the unit that allowed the most points in NFL history.
33:02All I have heard ever since then is, oh, he's well-respected in the league.
33:06And they just believe that once he gets more defensive personnel, that this defense is going to turn it around.
33:12And he should be on head coaching lists. And, you know, he changes the coverage the most between pre-snap and post-snap.
33:18Who cares? The dude sucks at his job. Okay.
33:21Get him out of here. A team, an offense that posts 31 points in the opening three quarters should win a game 80% of the time.
33:28And his defense allowed 59 points in this game.
33:31Get out. I'm sick of it. It is just incredible.
33:34I understand there are some other plays like Derek Brown on the, you know, roughing the passer and Jimmy Horn, muffing the
33:41punt and all that type of stuff. Your defense wasn't ready for the game.
33:45It's that simple. And it hasn't been ready for four years.
33:48Simple as. All right. Next up. Speaking of defense, it was questionable in this one.
33:52Shockingly, Harmon, as the Buffalo Bills beat the Houston Texans on the road, 36 to 31.
33:57Did not have this Texans defense in mind to allow 36 points on the board.
34:02And Matt, I look at the box score. Duncan Cade, 5 or 130.
34:06DJ Moore, 5, 101. And one, Brandon Bean's big moves.
34:09The receiver room certainly hit here in week one of the 2026 season.
34:12Yeah. The big takeaway, I think, is that both of these offenses looked really good.
34:17And shout out to Joe Brady, popping his shirt off in the locker room, letting the white boy chain hang out.
34:23I mean, there were some good vibes for the Buffalo Bills in this game.
34:27I mean, a lot of it was some of the things you highlighted there were right away.
34:32I will say it felt a little bit like they needed to kind of settle into the offense here with Joe Brady and the boys.
34:40But, you know, one thing that caught my eye right away is 36 points against the Houston Texans.
34:45According to NFL Pro, that is the most a D'Amico Ryan's led defense has given up since his first season on the job in 2023.
34:53And this is a defense that's given Josh Allen a lot of trouble in their last two meetings.
34:5813.5 adjusted yards per attempt in this game. It helps to have receivers who can get open down the field, it turns out.
35:05And not only that, but it also kind of allowed them to get Khalil Shakir loose early for two catches for 45 yards on his first two targets.
35:13And those are not like Khalil Shakir catch and run opportunities.
35:16That was kind of a continuation from their first preseason game where Shakir was used more down the field.
35:22And I think his two targets after that were or his two catches after that were both screens and more typical Khalil Shakir things.
35:29But yeah, I mean, it was DJ Moore who had four catches of 10 plus yards down the field.
35:3581% route participation led the team. He had like his touchdown.
35:38His first catch was like a play action skinny post, like down the field, exactly what you'd think.
35:44And he didn't have a catch until the second quarter of this game.
35:47And then as soon as like that connection started heating up, Josh Allen just was going after him again and again.
35:54Now his touchdown was a little bit of a questionable gamble by Reed Blankenship on that one.
35:59It's tight along the sideline. Reed tries to go for the pick and then, you know, just DJ Moore scampers the rest of the way.
36:06But immediately you felt the difference with him in there.
36:09And the other guy too is Dalton Kincaid, who was just smoking defenders down the football field in the second half of this one.
36:1677% snap share. That's the eighth highest of his career.
36:19Most of any wide receiver and tight end on the team.
36:23He had three catches on three targets for 113 yards when lined up out wide.
36:27I mean, it finally looked like not Dalton Kincaid to the theory, but like Dalton Kincaid, the actualized version of the idea
36:34was on the field for the Buffalo Bills. So, yeah, it was a I will say Josh Allen almost like threw this game away game ending.
36:41I and T on what was just an absolute like, why are you throwing that thing up just for grabs for Josh Palmer?
36:48But if you threw that tweet out there, you immediately regretted it because then he throws the strike on a post route
36:55touchdown to the same player, Josh Palmer, to eventually win this game.
36:58Matt, we call that Dalton Kade versus USC. That's the thing we're aiming for here.
37:03But just looking at the box score here, it looks like it was a way more dropbacks versus designed carries.
37:09And last year was about even split. You just never knew.
37:12Was that a Sean McDermott thing or was that an actual Joe Brady thing now that he's in the head coaching chair?
37:19Like, is this something where like obviously you're facing the Texans pass rushers, which it seems like they held up pretty well
37:25in the 27 percent pressure rate, which is really good given the defense and those corners.
37:30And they still went back and dropped back all that time.
37:33Did it feel different just watching like James Cook versus Josh Allen, the rest of these guys?
37:38Yeah, definitely. And I mean, James Cook had a catch on the first drive, like one of the first two plays of
37:45the game, second play of the game, actually. And he went for, you know, fourth.
37:49Like it was just he was involved pretty early as a receiver in that way.
37:54He only has like three catches on the day.
37:56So it's not some crazy pass game role. But it was like the first inclination that, oh, something is a little bit different here.
38:04And that was what we talked about with what this team had been kind of whispering out of camp in the preseason.
38:10What is it? They wanted to throw the football more.
38:13And even when you like they first hire Joe Brady as the head coach, that was kind of the early justification by
38:20beat reporters covering the team was, well, you know, no, Joe Brady doesn't want to run the football like that.
38:26That was more of a Sean McDermott thing. And you didn't know if that was kind of spin with an organization that
38:32was, you know, a little bit questionable in the in the in the press conference talking about firing Sean McDermott and the whole deal.
38:39But it certainly looked like the actualized reality of that here in this game.
38:44Matt, need to ask you on the opposite end here with the Houston Texans.
38:48CJ Stroud coming off some disastrous playoff performances. I would say the bills are like a medium defense.
38:53We're not exactly sure what to expect with them now with Jim Leonard calling, you know, the plays for them.
38:59But he goes 26 to 38 to 74 to touchdowns.
39:02And as we know, Nico Collins is his go to man.
39:05But a whole bunch of people, I mean, almost a dozen of them catch passes in this contest.
39:11Just overall, what CJ Stroud do in his debut in 2026?
39:14I thought, again, I feel good about both offenses coming out of this one.
39:18I do think it's easier to say Bill's offense faces against a good defense that we know is good and is mostly
39:25returning the same player, same coaches and the whole deal.
39:28And I think it's easier to take more positivity away from that one because, you know, like Hayden pointed out, they did keep those pass rushers at bay.
39:36It was like deep into this game before you really heard anything from Will Anderson and Neil Hunter eventually made his presence known.
39:43But still, for the most part, like that's how that team felt with with the Bills defenses versus the Texans offense.
39:49I'm not saying like this was a bad debut by Jim Leonard or anything, but man, they really kept playing like outside leverage on this team.
39:57And CJ Stroud went 14 of 19 on 100 for 173 yards on in breaking throws in this game.
40:02Like they attacked the middle of the field consistently.
40:05The biggest takeaway, though, to me, we'll come back to the past game.
40:09I do want to talk about Nico Collins a little bit more in this game.
40:13But to me, the biggest note was actually in the run game where Dave Montgomery scores three touchdowns.
40:19That's great. That's cool. Obviously, if you started him in fantasy, that feels pretty good.
40:23It did feel a little bit like, oh, geez, we're sure like Dave Montgomery is not going to be a good player for this Houston Texans football team.
40:32But the bigger one to me is that the rushing success rate for the Texans in this game, 48.3%.
40:37That's the fourth best out of 58 regular season and playoff games for this team since 2023.
40:42And 2023 to 2025 has said this a lot.
40:45They were the 31st ranked rushing success rate team since they drafted CJ Stroud strictly on running back runs.
40:51So they they implemented a lot more heavy personnel.
40:53Dave Montgomery had like three straight carries on his first touchdown out of heavy personnel.
40:58The second touchdown comes out of a 12 personnel look like this did feel like a different run game for Houston than what we've seen.
41:05Certainly last year and even in some of the Joe Mixon years.
41:09Yeah, right. Hand up. I was one of the people that was bringing up some maybe dead zone running back profile ish from Dave Montgomery.
41:16But this is certainly an awesome debut with three touchdowns that puts a sock in my mouth for at least the next couple of weeks.
41:24Well, I mean, Josh, I kind of wanted to ask Carmen this because I didn't watch a ton of this game.
41:30Right. I was locked in on the Jets and the Titans, which we'll get to later.
41:35But when I see when I see when I see three touchdowns, I feel great.
41:39When I see 20 carries for 60 yards, three yards in attempt and you tell me the Buffalo defense isn't great.
41:46Like I'm just I just want to know how it felt watching him.
41:49Did it feel like a grind? Did he look like, oh, man, like we've got a stud here or was it just
41:56was it just one of those things where if you're going to give him 20 carries, like it's probably going to you're
42:03going to get some fantasy production here because I'm just looking at the raw numbers and I'm like, yeah, it doesn't look that great from Montgomery.
42:10But I mean, we love the three touchdowns, no doubt.
42:13Like what did you see? Just the eye test, Matt.
42:16That's why I wanted to bring the success rate stack because I think it shows the story a little bit better than strict yards per carry.
42:24Because a lot of his 149 yards. Yeah, a lot of Montgomery's carries came in short yardage situations.
42:29Again, like I mentioned, like three straight at the goal line before he scores his first touchdown.
42:34So some of that just depresses the yards per carry.
42:37But yeah, I wouldn't say this looked like a, oh, boy, overwhelming run game.
42:42But we're talking about the bar for this team is literally at the floor.
42:46Like we just need them to not be the 31st ranked rushing team for them to actually move the football.
42:52And I think that did bleed into the passing game where they had more advantageous down and distance situations.
42:57So I just think that the whole offense felt a little bit more organized and cleaner than what we've seen out of Houston the last two years.
43:05Yeah, interesting, Matt. Based on the box score, I wouldn't have guessed what Michael F.
43:10Florio is putting here on the screen with 51% snaps or D-Mont, 49% Woody Marks.
43:14You know, nine carries, 16 routes, 20 carries, 15 routes, all that type of stuff.
43:19But yeah, the box score tells us that near the goal line that it's certainly D-Mont.
43:24I also want to ask about the wide receiver room, Matt, because this was a huge, you know, change in the preseason.
43:30Once Jaden Higgins went down, we always knew that Nico Collins was going to be, as you put up the alpha wide receiver one for the Houston Texans.
43:38Is it as simple as you state here? Everything else, wide receiver two by committee, because we get Jalen Knoll, two for
43:4553, Dalton Schultz, four for 35, Xavier Hutchinson, three for 32, and then Kayshaun Boutte, one for 21.
43:50Yeah, everybody else kind of had their moments. Even this guy, Jared Wayne, was playing a decent bit and kind of as
43:57another, almost like a Xavier Hutchinson clone, a little bit of a grinder blocker.
44:01Like he was the solo wide receiver in 13 personnel at times.
44:05Again, Xavier Hutchinson did sort of the dirty work special several times in this game.
44:09Jalen Knoll, wide open on a dig route on his first catch, and then kind of a clutch third and three reception
44:16in the final minute of this game. But yeah, it wasn't a full-time player.
44:20Nobody was a full-time player. Nobody in the wide receiver room had a 70% route share, except Nico Collins at 88%.
44:26Kayshaun Booty, he had a 21-yard reception, kind of lost a contested pass along the sideline for one of his others.
44:32All the tight ends were involved. Like to me, this just, the world revolves around Nico Collins, who had a productive day and drew another long pass interference.
44:41I should have mentioned DJ Moore had a bunch of hidden yards for the Buffalo Bills as well.
44:46He had several like pass interference, legal contact down the field plays in this one too.
44:51So yeah, Collins was the, everything revolves around him and everyone else is just kind of in the orbit.
44:56Matt, just closing out, wanted to ask you about the end of game sequence, really the final three plays.
45:02Because Houston gets down first and goal to the nine-yard line, 25 seconds left on the clock.
45:07Is this just, you know, the Bills turning it on in the moment they have to where they get a sack?
45:13Then we go second and goal from the 18, incompletion over to Nico Collins, and then we close it out with another sack fumble on third and goal.
45:22Yeah, that was probably Stroud's worst moment of the game, which I mean, you know, it's wonderful one that loses the game.
45:28So, you know, not particularly ideal. But like I said, he was pretty clean all game and then kind of just makes
45:35a bad play worse where Trent Brown loses really quickly to Gregory Rousseau on the right tackle side.
45:40And then he just kind of gets a little careless with the football.
45:44As we'll talk about later, we call that the Baker Mayfield special.
45:48He had kind of one of those at the worst moment.
45:51Yeah. Interesting here for the Texans. I mean, they start with the Buffalo Bills and then the Cincinnati Bengals offense in week two.
45:58So hopefully they can rebound on that side and ask for the Bills.
46:02They face the Detroit Lions in week two. Man, oh man, we already have an awesome week two slate.
46:07Hayden, I mean, the timing is perfect. Let's flip it over to you.
46:11Now, with those Detroit Lions in overtime beating the New Orleans Saints 31 to 30, I was looking at box scores the
46:18entire time and it felt like for the first, you know, 45 minutes of this game.
46:23Yep. Tyler Shuck and Travis H. And had a combined 38 yards.
46:26In the end, Tyler Shuck throws for 410 yards and three touchdowns and two interceptions.
46:31H. And still very minimal nine for 46. I don't know if you want to start there.
46:36Just the overall aspect of this game and how it played out and how we got into overtime with the Saints losing
46:42because they failed a two point conversion. Absolutely a tale of two house.
46:46We'll get to the Saints second here. Didn't want to talk about the Lions just because they won this game.
46:52Now, they really should have lost this game. There was kind of some controversy here with one of the refs play calls here.
46:59But with the offense, it just felt a lot more conservative than some of the previous Lions offenses out there.
47:05The offensive line was fantastic in this one. Only one pressure allowed, according to PFF right now.
47:10Jared Goff, though, 6.6 average depth to target. Everything felt underneath.
47:13Obviously, Jameer Gibbs goes crazy. It's going to be impossible to defend in fantasy.
47:17If you don't have them, good luck to you guys.
47:20But even in the dropbacks, there was a lot of underneath stuff to Amon Ra.
47:25His ADOT was 5.2 yards down the field. 36% target share for him.
47:29So I know it's the Petsing offense. Is that going to force a bunch of targets to the tight ends?
47:35Not necessarily. I think Sam Laporta had a very up-the-middle game for him.
47:39But Amon Ra-St. Brown off-coverage touchdown. Easy one. And then in overtime, a pick play where the guy, I think it was
47:45Isaac Teslaw, to pick him for a little slant goal line touchdown for Amon Ra-St.
47:50Brown. Jameer didn't really do a whole lot. There was a third and four drop that cost him a first down.
47:56Maybe another drop on third and two. I'm guessing if we go back and watch the All-22, maybe he's running more clear-out routes.
48:03Early in the game, lots of two tight ends snaps.
48:06By the end of it, a lot more traditional stuff there.
48:09So really, nothing too concrete from the Lions' end, even though with a new play caller there, maybe a little bit more conservative.
48:16That said, this was a very automatic offense. Not a lot of explosives here.
48:20Just an offense that continued to just march down the football field.
48:23They did lose their left guard with an injury early in the first quarter.
48:28Yeah. Hayden, we have talked about teams already that are getting players involved that we didn't even know were on rosters.
48:34I feel like this Lions team, though, is going to be the most straightforward one that we'll see all season long, where
48:40it's Jameer Gibbs with, I mean, he had 29 carries and then another five targets on top of it.
48:46I mean, opening a season with 34 overall opportunities is insane stuff.
48:50And then it's Amon Ross St. Brown, Sam Laporte, and Jameson Williams.
48:53And that's it. I mean, this is the most predictable offense in the NFL.
48:57And I'll say it's going to be the most predictable defense.
49:01This secondary, and we can just get right to the Saints, was atrocious for the Lions.
49:06They're missing both of their safeties right now. And I think once those guys get back, maybe things get a little bit squared away here.
49:13But like Rakia Sin, he was leaving the game.
49:16Everybody was getting picked apart. Tyler Shuck, for the first half of the game, they were like sliding protections the wrong way.
49:22They were like running routes where like nobody was even near where the ball was placed.
49:27There was a lot of attempts where Tyler Shuck was throwing the ball and the wide receivers weren't even turned around.
49:33Bryce Lance, a very inexperienced player, obviously, in his first game.
49:36He was a big part of this offense. CJ Donaldson, I have never heard of you, CJ Donaldson.
49:42This guy was out there all the time in pass protection instead of Travis H.
49:46So there's a lot more like new faces in this one.
49:50It felt really sloppy for the first half. And I was tweeting some things.
49:54And then the second half of this game, Tyler Shucks read the tweets.
49:58And then he was absolutely bawling, throwing the ball down the football field.
50:02Chris Olave, 10 receptions, 182 yards. A lot of them were down the football field.
50:06He only left the game three times due to injury.
50:09So that was a win for Chris Olave. Only three times.
50:12Only three times. My phone was updating all day.
50:15Literally. All day. In and out. In and out.
50:18He's either making a big play or he's in the medical tent.
50:21It was nuts. And sometimes it was both. It was because he made the big play.
50:26That's why he ended up in the medical tent.
50:29So it was a wild game. Devon Bailey was very much involved.
50:32He has a goal line touchdowns on a fade route for him.
50:36I think that he's someone that kind of, not all the way to Jalen Coker's Coker's as a better player, but someone
50:42that is a, for sure, almost every down player that's on a team that can get into some shootouts.
50:48He's like interesting as a pure like dart throw type.
50:51And then Jawan Johnson did. He was one of these guys did absolutely nothing.
50:55And then on the very last couple plays of the game, he scores a touchdown to tie it.
51:00He has a huge play to attempt the Saints to have a game winning field goal and a dig route over the middle.
51:07And then also has a big play in overtime where they eventually get Noah Fant into the end zone.
51:13There's a couple of sequences that I really want to talk about just for NFL at large.
51:18The Saints, they in overtime, they go for two.
51:21They don't get the ball to Chris. A lot of they're trying to get a little pick route to him.
51:27I think that Chuck could have forced it to him, but did chose not to.
51:31The ball goes out of bounds. I liked that decision.
51:34Unfortunately for the Saints, there's this really odd rule where Jared Goff gets strip sacked.
51:39The refs say that he was intending to throw the ball forward.
51:42The ball does go backwards. The Saints pick the ball up would have been a touchdown for them if that play was
51:49called the opposite way, which my entire adult life I've been watching football.
51:53And whenever the ball goes backwards, it seems like the other team gets the ball.
51:57That's how the game works. Not this time. And that cost the Saints here.
52:01So multiple opportunities to pull off an upset. I would say an impressive game for the Saints because Staley didn't allow explosives on his side of the ball.
52:10But at the same time, it took a full half to get this offense going.
52:14But once they did, it was just explosive after explosive.
52:17Wow. Wow. Okay. We've talked about all this, Josh.
52:20We talked about all this and I'm just looking at like Kendra Miller.
52:24Hey, Kendra Miller. I know he scored the touchdown, but nine carries to a chance nine.
52:28And I get the game script was very negative.
52:31But it was like, even with all the bad that was happening, New Orleans was always in it.
52:36What the hell was that about? Kendra Miller actually getting touches on the field?
52:41Yeah, this is probably the biggest fantasy takeaway because I was just stunned that Kendra Miller was playing so often.
52:47It was CJ Donaldson and like pass protection. By the way, that's a undrafted rookie.
52:51I believe I think it was the RB three for the Buckeyes comes in there with a very legitimate role.
52:57Maybe like a version of the Alvin Kamara role, but it was actually Kendra Miller and like Travis HN like splitting early down work.
53:04Now, at the same time, Travis HN because of game scripts, and this is going to happen whenever you face the Detroit Lions, a career high nine targets.
53:12They go for 32 yards. They're scoreless, but a career high targets for Travis HN here.
53:17I would still call this a stock down for him just because they were this game wasn't like that crazy in terms
53:24of game script is a wonky game, but the game was like fairly tight for a lot of it.
53:29Kendra Miller was like literally taking snaps away from Travis HN.
53:33His touchdown was at the eight yard line. But even then you're like, why is Kendra Miller out there at the eight yard line for a touchdown opportunity?
53:41So I would say one of the most surprising outcomes without Alvin Kamara not even playing.
53:46Yeah, I mean, we've seen other running backs that were either traded for or signed this offseason get almost all the work
53:52and for Travis HN not to get all the work in his debut after signing for that big contract, I think is really massive.
54:00And Hayden, like you said, if they didn't rediscover they could catch passes in the second half, he wouldn't have those nine
54:06targets right when they're working from behind. And then next week they face the Baltimore Ravens away.
54:11So that's pretty terrifying if Travis HN is not getting, you know, 70% of the work.
54:16And I don't know why they would change that from week one to week two.
54:20I will say this. We talk about neutral pace all the time.
54:24And there's a reason for that. The Saints had 90 plays on offense.
54:28Obviously, you go to overtime and you're in trail.
54:30But offenses that play with that amount of pace, you can kind of back way into some fantasy production.
54:36So at least you have like that as some level of a floor for all these type of players.
54:42All right. Speaking of the Ravens, I'll close out this first grouping with Baltimore beating the Indianapolis Colts 41 to 23.
54:48The debut of Jesse Minter and especially the opposite coordinator Declan Doyle could not have gone any better for the Ravens.
54:54I mean, the first player to shout out is our guy.
54:58And I mean, all of our guys say flowers, five catches, 150 yards and a touchdown at halftime.
55:03Unfortunately, that's when his game ended due to a hamstring strain.
55:06But his usage has to get really everyone excited.
55:09Like the first snap on the Ravens offense after an awesome return was play action under center boot to the left.
55:15Zay flowers for 49 yards. Later on, Declan Doyle put him attached to Lamar Jackson in the backfield on a second and nine.
55:22He was uncovered due to blitzers on this like choice route.
55:25And then he just runs it after the catch for 54 yards.
55:29I mean, he was moving at a different speed than anyone else on NFL field.
55:33He looked the best he ever has. And hopefully I can say that again once he returns to the field from his injury.
55:40As for Derrick Henry, the running back on the day, 24 carries, 144 yards, three touchdowns.
55:45Now he is third all time in rushing touchdowns in NFL history, all time.
55:49Derrick Henry is. I mean, we are witnessing history here in the making.
55:53He is immortal. He looks like he's 27 years of age.
55:56And I thought Declan Doyle really did a fantastic job with his partnership with Lamar Jackson on some like zone read actions.
56:03He got him pointed to the edge. He even drew up a 19 yard screen for him.
56:08And I'll just close this out with Lamar Jackson.
56:11First drive cap of the rushing score inside the five yard line.
56:14He only had two rushing scores all of last season.
56:17This is again, a new offensive line in many ways, a new play caller.
56:21And I thought Lamar looked comfortable. He looked poised.
56:24He looked calm on the road. And that's really all you can ask for in a debut with so many new pieces around him.
56:31Yeah. How many of those rush attempts were like design stuff versus him scrambling around?
56:36And like, does he like look like the fully healthy Lamar Jackson here?
56:39Like the one that can go like toe to toe with Josh Allen for a season.
56:44Yep. Fully healthy. A couple of them were designed.
56:47The other ones were scrambles where he was doing his best impression of Neo and, you know, avoiding arm length tackles and,
56:53you know, backing up, then moving forward, then not running people to the edge and all that type of stuff.
56:59He was sacked twice. I believe he also maybe fumbled on a sack on top of it.
57:05Yeah, it was a layout to lot to sack that Forrest Buckner picked up.
57:09But Lamar was pinpoint. And this, you know, jump from 31 points in the first half.
57:13It really stalled once they flowers went down at halftime.
57:16And also Jacoby Lane missed the second half. Jacoby Lane left with a wrist injury after basically getting three red zone targets on the same series.
57:24One went for a touchdown that was called back due to a holding.
57:28Then he got another one that got them down to about the four yard line and then ended that with an incomplete pass in the end zone.
57:36But once, you know, the top two wide receivers went out, it wasn't until a 53 yard catch and is only one
57:43of the day to Chris Moore that really reignited this offense back to score the 10 points to really put this one away.
57:49Yeah, Chris Moore in the year 2026. That's, you know, that's maybe not what you want.
57:54Devontae Walker was injured coming into this game. Elijah Surratt was a healthy scratch.
57:58But I mean, Josh, three touchdowns for Derrick Henry.
58:01What did I tell you, bro? In Buffalo, I said he's going to have double digit touchdowns.
58:06He's got double digit touchdowns in his back pocket coming into the season.
58:10We're 30% of the way there. How about that?
58:13We already are. And if he does that, I mean, it's an insane list of like Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith that
58:19he joins as, again, like the best to ever do it.
58:23Matt, I do want to put this back on you, though, because even when Zay Flowers and Jacoby Lane miss an entire
58:29half of action and Chris Moore goes one for 53, LeJonte Wester goes two for 15.
58:34I see all the way at the bottom Rashad Bateman, one target, zero reception, zero yards.
58:39You can't even do it in that environment. We're not we're not doing Rashad Bateman anymore.
58:43OK, we're done with my therapist says I'm not allowed to talk about Rashad Bateman.
58:48I don't know if you heard that. So, yeah, Josh, let me ask you.
58:52Yeah, go ahead. Can I ask you this? Because we did talk about this on the data dump that over the last
58:59like three years, the wide receiver to wide receiver to in Baltimore averages like four targets per game.
59:04And I'm just looking at the box score. Nobody likes old man Mark Andrews, but I'm just looking at raw targets.
59:10And I see six there for Mark Andrews. And Lamar Jackson is one of the most efficient quarterbacks in NFL history.
59:16If we're looking for like a lower end tight end play, if Lane is out, if Bateman's going to be a zero,
59:23I mean, what did you see from Andrews on the field?
59:26He looked like he has in the last couple of years, which isn't that bad in comparison, I think, to what the
59:33beat writers said about him in training camp, that it was a disaster and like his career might be coming to a conclusion.
59:40There was a bunch of like pre-snap motion and misdirection again off play action.
59:44And I think that was kind of aiding Mark Andrews in terms of not having to beat man coverage because, you know,
59:50defenses will run a lot of zone, obviously against Lamar Jackson.
59:54And he's still just really good at finding these soft spots and soft areas and not offering much after the catch.
60:00But he was there. And even Matthew Hibner popped up for a catch for 13 yards on top of it.
60:06Okay, quickly over to the Colts end of this.
60:09The first drive was simply outstanding, like Shane Sykin sliced right through Jesse Minner's defense, just like he did last year against the Chargers.
60:16There were two key Josh Downs receptions on that drive, third down conversions.
60:20The first one, third and three after an audible by Daniel Jones.
60:23It's a 25 yard shake route with plenty of yards after catch.
60:27And then later on, a 12 yard gain on third and eight after Josh Downs got motion.
60:32He opened the game, Shane Sykin, seven straight dropbacks.
60:35But after that opening drive touchdown, the drives went interception, punt, punt, fumble and punt.
60:39And they were down 31 to 13 at half.
60:42So Jonathan Taylor still looked freaking awesome with 19 carries for 98 yards and two scores.
60:46Tyler Warren didn't get his touchdown until late. It kind of felt like he was the sacrificial player in this, almost having
60:53to stay closer to the line of scrimmage to really take account for everything that Jesse Minner was doing.
60:59Uh, on the edges in terms of pressure looks and all that type of stuff.
61:03Uh, and then Alec Pierce had two downfield targets, uh, that were past breakups because it was perfect coverage by Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins.
61:11And I kind of wonder if he maybe has lost five to 10% of his juice right now than other previous years.
61:17Like last year, he'd be able to separate it and come down with those grabs.
61:22Uh, but does finish most of this at the end with four catches for 61 yards.
61:26Hmm. I would take that as a win for Alec Pierce.
61:30Like as long as he didn't have a setback, he played about half of the routes there.
61:35And yeah, at least put some numbers out there.
61:37I feel like that's, that's enough to keep me somewhat confident over the next couple of weeks that we can end up
61:44starting him, uh, looking in the numbers, Josh Downs, he did play in most of the non 11 personnel stuff.
61:50That's a, that's, that's pretty exciting. And then, um, I think that's exciting until you look at two for 37 yards, basically
61:5648 of 54 snaps and got two for, for 37 in a game that they lost by 18 points.
62:02Josh, I think more to talk about than the rack up points.
62:06Yeah. Yeah. What did Jones look like? Yeah. It's the first drive was so good that I was like, oh man, this
62:12is right back where everyone was saying that this team is going to be.
62:16And then, uh, he, I think through an awful interception on the second series where he tried to a high low Roquan
62:23Smith and Roquan was like, no, I'm just going to stay in the middle of this and tip it to myself and come down with this catch.
62:31And there was very little movement from Daniel Jones on top of it.
62:35Uh, Jesse Minner has this defense flying around. Um, you know, the edge rushers, the defensive tackles, Kyle Hamilton was, you know,
62:41a deep safety, a slot corner, and then blitzing off the edge on top of it.
62:46So it just felt like this Colts offense was not ready for, for what the defense brought to the table.
62:52And then Keenan Allen, I do want to say played the second most snaps, but that was down at 36 of 54 among wide receivers.
63:00Uh, he had the first catch of the game, but, uh, yeah, I mean, just six for 32 might be something we kind of keep in mind here.
63:08And yeah, again, Tyler Warren played 50 of 54, just not his day when it comes to, uh, being heavily involved from the start.
63:15Okay. If there's no more questions, we'll keep it moving.
63:18Hayden over to you. I mean, we've already talked about some, and I mean, just a couple of the biggest shocks and surprises of the day.
63:26Uh, we were waiting on you to start this episode because I looked down and I could have sworn that the Packers
63:32were up by two for 59 minutes and then they lose by 17 to the Minnesota Vikings.
63:37What? 39 to 22. I didn't see a single second of this contest.
63:41How the heck did the Vikings with Carson Wentz as their starting quarterback beat the Packers by 17?
63:47Yeah. Don't type in the floor right now on Twitter.
63:50Packers fans are completely irate. I totally get this one because the Packers felt like they were the better team for quite a while.
63:57The Vikings blitzed on 87% of the Packers dropbacks, 87%.
64:00That is gotta be some type of record. Yes.
64:02Now the Packers knew this was coming. They faced Brian Flores all the time.
64:07They were able to get a couple of explosives early on in the game.
64:11Christian Watson on a, uh, in cut. He kind of beats where the other linebackers supposed to be on a blitz route.
64:17He takes it was easily the most athletic guy in the football field takes it for an 81 yard touchdown.
64:23There's a couple other plays for Christian Watson, including when he's going to like insert block and it kind of leaks out for a red zone touchdown.
64:31So he's not just Mr. 80 yard touchdown. He's going to get involved at the goal line.
64:36His season looked like it's going to be pretty awesome.
64:39Um, Matthew golden, he has, uh, 12 targets in this one.
64:43There was some in cut, uh, uh, opportunities for Matthew golden 42 yarder out there.
64:47I thought that he passed the test played most of the snaps, but what happened with the Packers is they had explosives,
64:54but there was no level of consistency here. Jordan love gets sacked four times.
64:58That's what happens when you have 87% blitzes coming your way.
65:01And the Packers could not run the ball whatsoever is under a four yards per carry.
65:06Marshawn Lloyd, uh, has more carries than Chris books, but Chris Brooks actually started this game.
65:11Chris Brooks was out there in a lot of the past protection because, uh, the Vikings were bringing so much pressure and
65:17you're not going to trust Marshawn Lloyd out there.
65:20So pretty quiet day for the running back group at large, but that's one of the problems with the Packers.
65:26Like it's so hard for them to kind of stay on schedule here.
65:30And if you're not hitting the huge explosives, all of a sudden this offense feels a little bit stuck.
65:35So in the second half, very conservative game planning, uh, until Matt, uh, Matt LaFleur in the, uh, late in the game,
65:42they're up by a couple points by five points here.
65:45They it's like a fourth and six, the trace Mac who nailed a couple of long field goals in this one.
65:51He hits his field goal here to make them go up eight.
65:55There was a penalty on the Vikings that Packers decided to accept the penalty to go to fourth and one on that fourth and one.
66:02They do a quarterback sneak that gets stuffed. So instead of taking, uh, this game to go up by eight, they choose
66:09to try to make this like a true two score game.
66:12Uh, and it backfires. And a lot of the models were saying actually you should just take the points there.
66:18Uh, next possession Vikings go all the way down, uh, the field score a touchdown.
66:22By the way, this is all with Carson Wentz, uh, mind you.
66:26And then, uh, later on the game, uh, Jordan love, uh, he gets strip sacked.
66:30Uh, there's interception, uh, as well, uh, on a ball that's like a pass deflected.
66:35And then the Vikings end up just having a couple of, a couple of explosives to Jordan Mason, Aaron Jones scores, a rushing touchdown.
66:42Jordan Mason scores, uh, a rushing touchdown. And then Justin Jefferson completely balls out.
66:46So this game was sloppy to start for the Vikings end of this.
66:50They stayed competitive. And then at the end of the game, the Packers side of this thing, it just could not pick up a normal first down.
66:58And a lot of it is because of Brian Flores.
67:01Okay. Since it's a fantasy relevant question, I guess we just have to ask Josh Jacobs is going to miss more games than week two.
67:09Chris Brooks. I know Matt pointed this out. I know Ray has pointed this out.
67:13I know all of us have that he was most likely going to play the most snaps or a lot of them
67:20because of his pass pro and recognition and all that type of stuff.
67:24But from your eye test, did Marshawn Lloyd pass it?
67:26Is this someone that can be a flex option moving forward?
67:30I think next week you got the Jets and then you got the Falcons.
67:34I think over those two games, I think there's going to be enough points here to go around where Marshawn Lloyd could be a flex.
67:41He is definitely not an RB2 though. Marshawn Lloyd, I thought was, he's very dancey and like you're supposed to have a jump cuts as a running back.
67:50Sometimes his jump cuts are like a little bit too jumpy for me and they try to get him on like a big wheel route.
67:57Yes. You guys watch it. You'll, you'll notice this.
68:00And I think the other big takeaway, and this is all, all kind of comes together.
68:05The interior offensive line for the Packers is a huge problem.
68:08Both of their guards stink out loud, stink out loud.
68:11And that's not changing whether it's Josh Jacobs or whoever else is out there.
68:15This team's going to live and die by the explosives.
68:18Now, I think they're going to get a bunch of that.
68:21The entire game, Jordan Love was like on his back foot, just throwing bombs down the field.
68:26And they did have some fun, uh, uh, explosives, including two to Tucker craft.
68:31He was, uh, about a halftime player in this one.
68:34Um, but if they can't run the ball and their corners are left on islands against Justin Jefferson, you can absolutely smoke
68:40the entire game with Carson Wentz at quarterback. This team seems like a kind of like fool's gold to me.
68:46And I do think that this Packers team, unless Michael Parsons comes back runs, unless they figure out this offensive line, which
68:53I'm not banking on like this Packers team is going to be very, very frustrating.
68:57Yeah. That sounds about what I was expecting, honestly, uh, from the Packers.
69:01So I'll be interested to go back and rewatch on the Viking side of things.
69:05Hayden, um, pretty any read on like the running back situation in terms of the split between the two guys, like how did the run game look overall?
69:14Cause you know, that's something they really said they wanted to commit to.
69:18Like, did they actually commit to it? Darisaw had a couple awesome runs to spring some explosives.
69:23I think, uh, the, there was a nice touchdown, Aaron Jones, where he was out in front.
69:28And then obviously the Jordan Mason is a 28 yarder.
69:31It felt like it felt like a lot more than 28 yards.
69:34Maybe Jordan Mason's not that fast in that it just felt like he was running for so long, but not actually picking up that many yards.
69:42Uh, they both scored goal line touchdown. So I think Aaron Jones is from four yards out.
69:47Jordan Mason was actually from like one yard out.
69:50So it's going to be a pretty even split.
69:52Uh, neither of them were like really used in the past game.
69:56Like even Aaron Jones goes catchless in this one.
69:59The entire past game was to Justin Jefferson. There was a, uh, free play situation where Carson Wentz, uh, looks to his right.
70:06Justin Jefferson's to his left. He kind of realizes like, Oh, maybe I should throw this ball to Justin Jefferson.
70:12If it's a free play finally does it in the back of the end zone, Justin Jefferson comes down with it.
70:18There was a couple of times where Justin Jefferson's, uh, working behind the line of scrimmage after the ball is snapped, uh,
70:24as little like leak routes to, to the flats.
70:27Both of those were in the red zone. One of them, he takes for a touchdown.
70:32The other one, just a simple reception there. But just the fact that Carson Wentz can make this offense look functional is like makes the J.J.
70:40McCarthy stuff from last year, like so much more damning, like it like truly so much more damning.
70:45The Jefferson floor this year feels so much higher.
70:48Uh, and hopefully we get Kyler Murray, uh, back.
70:50Uh, he, he was pretty much knocked on unconscious, uh, in the first quarter of that one.
70:55So really bummed out for Kyler Murray. We'll see if he comes back, uh, next week or not, but at least Carson
71:02Wentz, like this is not the J.J. McCarthy splits.
71:05This is more like, you know, Nick Mullen. It's more, uh, like Kirk Cousins tier rather than like the J.J.
71:11McCarthy stuff. Yeah. I mean, the, the Carson Wentz of it all, it just shows you that if your name isn't J.J.
71:17McCarthy or Max Brosmer, that Justin Jefferson is going to get there.
71:21It really is that simple. He's that talented that he's going to get there.
71:25Uh, Hayden, just to close this out, we've got two lesser wide receivers on each team that barely did anything.
71:31Okay. So I understand that the Packers out yarded, out gained the Vikings for 19 to two 39.
71:36By the way, they lost by 17 doing that, which is absolutely bonkers.
71:40But we mentioned that Watson had one 47 and two scores, Matthew golden 95 yards.
71:44Uh, I see Jane Reed for three catches for 20 yards.
71:48And then I see Jordan Addison with a total goose egg on a two targets.
71:52Yeah. I'll start with Jaden Reed, 64% of the routes in this game.
71:56They did not mix in another wide receiver very much.
71:59I will say like the last play of the game was an incomplete pass to sky more on a fourth and two.
72:06Um, so like we had like some of that element, but not as much as pre as previous years.
72:11That was, that was for you guys down there.
72:14Uh, instead the Packers did use a real four tight end rotation.
72:18That was because Tucker craft is not a full-time player in this one craft ran 20 of 46 routes.
72:23It was like Johnny Smith, Mark Redman, Josh Wiley.
72:26Those guys were playing at the expense of Jaden Reed.
72:29I would say this is the same exact situation that Jaden Reed has been in for his entire career.
72:35If you guys like that, keep them. If you don't like that, I don't like that personally.
72:40Um, and it does seem like Matthew golden is like the more explosive version of Romeo Dobbs.
72:45Romeo Dobbs is a wide receiver three in fantasy last year.
72:48I can easily see Matthew golden, uh, just a one for one replacing that as Christian Watson, I think has a chance
72:54to be a real upside wide receiver too. And then final question before we get out of here, Tucker craft said he
73:01was going to play about 50% of the snaps until halfway through the season.
73:05You said he'd get two explosives. Anything I test wise you want to bring up here with Tucker craft?
73:11Uh, both of them are wide open. Uh, and I thought he looked totally fine.
73:15It just seems like they're pretty committed to Tucker crafting in a part-time rotation.
73:19So 20 of 46, uh, routes, uh, on the dropbacks out there typically, you know, is 85, 90%.
73:25So I think this is going to be a multi week, uh, scenario for Tucker craft.
73:30He's more of like an upside tight end too.
73:32Then like, you have to start tight end one.
73:35Now, like we'll get to like Harold fan and cop.
73:38That's we chopped off a lot of tight ends and fantasy.
73:41Maybe he still has a top 10, uh, tight end, but this is not the Tucker craft that you were drafting, uh,
73:48hoping for like the November and December production. All right, Matt, we'll send it to you next.
73:53I mean, what game should we go with here?
73:56Let's go Tampa Bay and Cincinnati. All right. Oh, okay.
73:59Your guy Baker Mayfield that you hyped up all morning long, uh, ends the day with two 16, zero touchdowns, zero interceptions, 27 points.
74:06Uh, looks like he does a bit too much for sacks and a fumble on top of it.
74:11Meanwhile, maybe we should start here with the Cincinnati Bengals and the winning team.
74:15Joe Burrow, 25 of 35, two 54, one score.
74:18And like I led off with T Higgins, three for 59, Jamar chase two for 12.
74:23So of course, Mike Kosicki goes five receptions, 78 yards and one score.
74:27So much talk of this Bengals offense looking different with under center dropbacks.
74:30Wasn't that different? Uh, no, they had five dropbacks, uh, from under center.
74:34Four of them came in the second quarter that amounted to three of five for 29 yards.
74:39So they pretty much were like, okay, that's cute.
74:42We're going to stop doing that. Uh, 2.36 time to throw when Joe Burrow was in the gun, despite the sub 16% pressure rate.
74:49So there was a couple of like, oh yeah, Joe Burrow's under pressure here, but it wasn't just like they're getting overwhelmed from a pass protection standpoint.
74:57It just, I don't know. It's the Bengals defense won them this game and maybe the bucks like themselves in the foot won themselves this game, honestly.
75:05And this is one of the more successful week one outings for the Bengals, whether you look at like the Zach Taylor,
75:12Joe Burrow era when they've been out there, but it was not because of the offense whatsoever.
75:17This is just offense felt very weird all day long.
75:20Joe Burrow probably throws one of the worst passes of the day, a pick six to Josiah Trotter, which is just like,
75:26I don't know what he was looking at. I mean, Trotter, you can watch the replay of it.
75:32Trotter is like eyes on him all the way reading what he's going to do.
75:36And he just throws it right to him and he takes it for a pick six, which was the best thing that
75:43the bucks defense probably did all day. Cause those linebackers otherwise were kind of getting worked in the underneath area.
75:49So, um, 10 of 40 from under center for chase Brown, six of 16 from the gun.
75:54So it was just like when we can get under center and run the football looks pretty good, but we're not going
76:00to do that from the shotgun and we're not going to throw from under center.
76:05So it pretty much looked like all those August storylines went in the trash right away.
76:10Hmm. Uh, this Bengals offense and Joe Burrow specifically have been slow starters, Matt.
76:14Unfortunately for them, they also get the Houston Texans defense on the road next week.
76:18So, uh, one of those teams is going to bounce back, you know, the Bengals offense from this passing game standpoint or the Texans defense next week.
76:26So, uh, hopefully this was just kind of early season growing pains, but at least for the Bengals, Matt going through that, they still won the contest.
76:34And typically the Bengals don't win the early season stuff.
76:37Uh, and really it's exactly how we said it should be over the last few years that the defense finally bailed out the offense in a way.
76:45And their defense was flying around. Like I'll give them a lot of credit there.
76:50You definitely felt the difference of having some improved players there.
76:53And like, you know, the linebackers were also, uh, definitely much improved.
76:57Now again, bottom was, or the, the, the bar was in hell in terms of what the linebackers did last year, but
77:03it was a slight improvement this year. Uh, not perfect for sure on that side of the ball.
77:09And like I said, a lot of it was, I think Tampa Bay making their own mistakes here on this one, but
77:15certainly a better improve, uh, improved performance by that defense for sure.
77:19All right. Oh, go ahead, Josh. Go ahead. No, you go.
77:22I mean, I just, the elephant in the room, man, Jamar chase T Higgins.
77:26They didn't do anything like that. Nothing is this, was this just a by-product of rusty week one?
77:31I mean, four targets for chase, like just what was going on?
77:35Like why, why did we not get more Jamar chase looks in this one?
77:39Like people want to know this was wide receiver one, two for everybody coming into the week.
77:44And this is just, this was a bus performance from Jamar chase.
77:48There's no way to sugarcoat it. Like, what did you see?
77:51I don't, honestly, I don't really know that. Cause you never really pushed the football down the field to these guys.
77:57I, they were just getting it out quickly. A lot of just, like I said, get in the gun and get it
78:04to Mike, a sec, you in the slot, all of Mike, a sec, he's production came when lined up as a slot
78:11receiver, except his one touchdown, which was when he was lined up out wide.
78:15So it was a lot of that trying to take advantage of the middle of the field coverage and just not really
78:21throwing it into the teeth, uh, in the perimeter there for Cincinnati.
78:25So probably like a, there's no big takeaways here.
78:27Just stuff happens in terms of Jamar chase. But I did think it was a little odd that they never tried to
78:34kind of get him going a lot with the underneath stuff.
78:37So to me, it was just kind of a random performance, but it just comes to just this weird disjointed Ness that
78:44the Bengals offense kind of carries right now. But hopefully that's just a one week blip.
78:49Okay. Got to ask about the bucks because there were some conversations that we had.
78:53Yeah. We, we had an August about the scene first talk.
78:56We threw like the Bucky Irving, Kenny Gainwell passing down bread zone usage stuff, and then hit on Emeka Buka, Chris Godwin
79:03with a Buka going five for 63 on six targets.
79:06And Chris Godwin four for 40 on his four targets.
79:09Yeah. And all of a Buka's production came in the first half to didn't do anything in the second half.
79:15Nothing there. Um, they were a pretty purely 11 personnel team in this one.
79:1983% of their plays came, uh, out of 11 personnel.
79:22That's 36% higher than the NFL average, according to Sumer sports.
79:25And it did pretty much look like what we thought, uh, where Chris Godwin was in the slot.
79:31He was, he was like the big slot receiver.
79:33Emeka Buka moving around. Uh, and then Ted Hearst was absolutely sacrificial X receiver in this one.
79:38He had one, he had one pretty cool catch for his first NFL reception along the sideline.
79:43Uh, but otherwise averages 1.3 yards per route in 11 personnel.
79:47And yeah, they didn't really dabble in any heavy personnel work, but the big fantasy story is that Bucky Irving, I mean,
79:53pretty bullish past game usage for him. Uh, he runs more routes in 11 personnel, 59% of the routes, 11 personnel, 27%
80:00targets per route run productive, like intentional usage. He has a couple of nice catches on third down in this.
80:06Like, and I thought he looked explosive right away as a rusher too.
80:10So, um, I thought Bucky Irving comes out of this one as a really, really big winner.
80:15And you know, you can kind of say that this is like a little bit of excuse making.
80:20And I think you could do this too for, uh, the next team, uh, I'm going to talk about here in a minute.
80:27It's a new play caller. There's a lot more like motions and shifts and you could tell the bucks were just really
80:34disorganized in that part of it in terms of like Zach Robinson, they're asking him to do a lot, but I mean
80:40the, the turnovers were just abysmal Baker Mayfield sack fumble touchdown on the first one.
80:45Bucky then on third and 14 check down. He fumbles it Baker.
80:48His second, his second fumble is like a really nice little scramble to get out of pressure in the red zone.
80:54And he does this like really exaggerated juke move that he looks like he's like the uncle at the Turkey bowl.
81:01And then right after that fumbles it into the end zone.
81:04And then like, he just got really greedy and carry carried away.
81:07They're just careless, careless stuff. And then he has another sack fumble after that one.
81:12So it was the full Baker Mayfield experience in this game.
81:15There's no question about that. Hey, now I want to ask you, um, we're going to talk about this in stats versus
81:22film, but I would take this with Bucky Irving having what a short yardage touchdown, seven receptions on top of this, that
81:28Bucky Irving behind this offensive line might be one of the biggest winners in face of football in week one.
81:34Yeah. I think, yeah, there's kind of cut this thing into half.
81:38Some of the round five running backs looked bad and some of them looked good.
81:42I think Bucky passes the test here. I was going to just quickly say like, what's the point of Kenny gain well in fantasy?
81:49He runs a route on 36% of dropbacks. He would not be a bell cow back.
81:54If there was an injury here, this was the negative game script.
81:58They were down 24 to 10 going into halftime.
82:00The Bengals defense is set up for receptions underneath with their linebacker core.
82:04Sean Tucker was out. If it's not going to happen at all with Kenny gain well here, then like what truly is the point?
82:12Like, why would you rather have him than tank?
82:14Mike Bigsby, Mike Washington, you named the backup running back with actual fantasy appeal.
82:18If you're starting Kenny gain one fantasy, you've been eliminated.
82:21So like, there's no point to me even rostering him right now.
82:25Hey, Hayden, Hayden, Aaron Rogers likes to talk about psyops and stuff like that.
82:29The biggest psyop that Aaron Rogers has ever been a part of is that he made us think that Kenny gain well
82:36is like some kind of pass game weapon because he just checked to him over and over again.
82:41Yeah. Yeah. I mean, was running like legit downfield routes and that is never going to be replicated and other offense because
82:48the Steelers wide receivers like did not exist last year.
82:51Yeah. Bucky's going to rank high, I think for Boone in our running back rankings this Wednesday because they face the Cleveland Browns in in week two.
82:59He looked great. All right. He looked great. He was most consistent player probably on the offense outside of, like I said, third and 14 check down fumble.
83:07All right. I'll go to the NFC East next as the Philadelphia Eagles squeak by the Washington commanders 24 to 22.
83:13This was not a clean debut for Sean Mannion's Eagle offense.
83:16Their run game did not seem in sync early on.
83:19I mean, Saquon had a sick 42 yard run where he made two commanders run into each other at the line of
83:26scrimmage, then made Mike Sammer still stand still at the third level.
83:30But earlier in the game, he was seen like yelling on the sideline to the offensive line saying like, we got to
83:36get this right in terms of the run blocking.
83:39He was hit behind the line of scrimmage on seven of his opening 12 runs.
83:43It looked a whole lot like 2025 and not in the good way.
83:47And I mean, I even saw Eagles fans questioning if Landon Dickerson is done.
83:51So I mean, he had penalties, instant disruption, sacks like tackles for loss.
83:55It was brutal. And Cam Juergens wasn't that much better than him.
83:59But the passing game for the Eagles actually looked like the best part.
84:03I mean, Jalen Hurts finishes 14 to 25, 203 and three big touchdowns and the big time receiver in the first half.
84:09I love myself a post-hype sleeper. Let's go. That is Dontavian Wicks.
84:1364-yard pass to Dontavian Wicks early on out of 13 personnel under center.
84:17A perfect ball over the head of Mike Sammer still.
84:20That drive ends in a touchdown. Dallas Goddard down the seam from Hurts for defenders.
84:24Four verts perfectly placed. Later on the red zone, you get Dontavian Wicks versus again, Mike Sammer still.
84:29Great route versus the corners inside leverage. A fadeaway throw from Jalen Hurts makes it 14 to three.
84:35And then yes, Devontae Smith checked in a bit later on with the sweet sideline grab on 33 and five for 33 yards.
84:42And Dallas Goddard got his second touchdown. Actually legitimately running away from the commander's defense.
84:46That was just very confused in their coverage. I do want to shout out this commander's defense though.
84:51Like Durante Jones got them ready in many ways.
84:54Uh, Sonny Styles had an unreal sack where he ran through, I think a nice block by Saquon Barkley, but submarine Tim,
85:01like just threw him to the turf and sacks Jalen Hurts.
85:04Javon Kinlaw was popping up. It just looked a lot more creative and had some interesting Minnesota Vikings wrinkles to it.
85:10Uh, and they gave Jalen Hurts in this Eagles offense, a lot of fits.
85:14And if my Saquon Barkley, uh, prediction is going to pay off this new rushing scheme has to look a whole lot better in week two, Ray.
85:22Yeah. And I don't know how it's going to, because the offensive line was shaky last year.
85:28It was shaky last year. If you would have told me one defense was going to have 10 tackles for a loss
85:34and five quarterback hits, I thought it would be Philadelphia's defense against an inoperable offense that everyone said the commanders was, but it was the complete opposite.
85:42Like give them a ton of credit, but yeah, I I'm with you, Josh.
85:46I've got high hopes for Saquon Barkley. You still see some of the sweet moves that he has when he hits the
85:53open field, when he's one-on-one it's, it's lunch. It's barbecue chicken for Saquon Barkley.
85:57I, I I'm, I'm just looking at the numbers in the box score here.
86:0125 attempts for Hurts, 25 attempts from Hurts. And we're saying that this was the best kind of part of the offense.
86:08It's just going to be slim pickings going around, looking at these pass catchers.
86:12If Goddard's going to have his role, Wicks Smith.
86:15And then I'm looking at that three for negative five, Josh, I'm looking at three.
86:19I was going to bring that up. Come on.
86:22Talk to me. Yeah. I mean, we talked about some zeros for Jordan Addison and Colson Loveland.
86:27Uh, Makai Lemon, if you're the standard league gave you negative points on three catches for negative five yards.
86:32Um, he did have a three yard gain, but then he had a couple of negative screen passes on it as well
86:39to get himself some, some negative yardage. Uh, so this is like the Devante Smith, Danteven Wicks, uh, Dallas Goddard show at the early park.
86:46I will add some of those 25 dropbacks was more because Jalen Hurts, Hayden, you brought this up all summer long, looked
86:53leaner, looked meaner, looked like his scrambling self, seven carries for 46 yards, including like a pivotal, uh, I think like a
87:00third and 18 that he runs up the gut for 22 yards.
87:03So that was his jail at a free card, you know, a couple of years ago or even last year.
87:09Last year in one contest, but he probably looks just as good as he did in like 2024 running the football.
87:15Yeah, that's encouraging. I didn't like that. You said that Landon Dickerson might be the one that's kind of falling apart because
87:22he was the one that seemed like to have the most, just like the most downside because of the injuries and like he was contemplating retirement.
87:30Like this is going to be the week one showing with like quite frankly, a bunch of no namers like the commanders
87:36had more pressures than the Eagles did in this game.
87:39Like that, that to me is, is worrisome for, for Philadelphia.
87:42I will say on the pass catchers, Goddard wicks, lemon Smith, they were all out there for at least 29 of the 35 dropbacks.
87:50Like this offense really is like not about snap rates.
87:53It's like, let the best man win over the course of the season.
87:56I feel pretty confident it's going to be Devante Smith by himself and the rest of these guys kind of alternating, but
88:03we don't have to worry about like Mackay lemon, not playing enough snaps.
88:07Like if he's good in this offense, he will appear that might just take a little bit of time.
88:13Yeah. And I'll add that Will Shipley was in there for like the one minute drive, which was interesting to me that it wasn't Saquon.
88:20Just something to keep in mind in the back of your head on the commanders front.
88:25Feel bad for David Blau drawing your first time being a play caller up against this defense like Vic Fangio, not fun first draw.
88:32And it showed, I mean, Terry McLaurin did not get a catch until 434 left in the game.
88:37We somewhat expected that, you know, that you get Fangio, you get Quinion Mitchell and Rick Wollin on the outside.
88:43Brandon Coleman allowed a ton of pressures at left tackle.
88:46They kind of consistently found themselves behind the sticks and behind schedule.
88:50And so that forced Jane Daniels into this playmaker style.
88:53And he popped up here with, you know, some really cool scrambles on a 14 yarder spin moves, all that type of stuff with five carries for 31.
89:01But in the day, just 18 of 34, 164, two touchdowns.
89:04Like the gimmies weren't there for this team. I think Stefan Diggs kind of had two drops that would have shortened the
89:11sticks a bit more, but they made it close in the end.
89:15You know, they were a two point conversion away from setting this to overtime, basically at 24, 24.
89:20And then again, David Blau pops up of, hey, the gotta have it short yardage play.
89:25I run a shovel pass to John Bates and that's where I'm going to go home and start 0-1 with.
89:31Yeah, not what you want in terms of the play call there.
89:34Josh, I did note that Antonio Williams, rookie receiver, is the most productive receiver on the day, but he is sixth in routes.
89:41What happened with that one? So it's funny. I mean, all training camp, we heard that Traylon Burks was starting as an
89:48outside wide receiver and Traylon Burks was out there on the field today.
89:51But like you said, Antonio Williams pops up for 4-64-1 compared to Stefan Diggs' 4-55-1.
89:56And then Chig left about halftime and he was a third best receiver with two for 16 with an injury.
90:02Antonio Williams was running a bunch of like condensed splits, slot-ish stuff, even at times he was the outside wide receiver and
90:08just kind of running across the formation and outrunning those corners that were kind of trailing him or in zone coverage.
90:15And as for Diggs, he was, again, kind of schooling Cooper Dejean.
90:18We've seen some of these like veteran old school slot-ish wide receivers like Stefan Diggs did this to him.
90:24Adam Thielen did this to Cooper Dejean and just kind of routed him up at the top.
90:29And, you know, Diggs scored a really nice touchdown and then celebrated by sliding down the touchdown pole on top of it.
90:36So never change, buddy. Never change. At that point, the commanders were only down by two.
90:40And so then his celebration penalty forced them into like a 45-yard extra point try and prohibited them from trying to go
90:47for two to tie up the game that was like 16-16 at the moment.
90:51So, yeah, Stefan Diggs never changed. Josh, can I ask you, we talked about Kenneth Gainwell being a psyop running back.
90:57Yes. The eye test for me looked like Bill Krosky-Merritt.
91:00I don't care that it says 3.9 in a 10th.
91:03He looked like by far the best running back.
91:06Like, what are we doing with Rashad White? He's supposed to be this pass-catching maven.
91:10He had, what, one catch, two catches on the day.
91:13Is this the Bill backfield? Should it be the Bill Krosky-Merritt backfield?
91:17It should absolutely be the Bill backfield. And his first carry went for 10 yards.
91:21Like, his second carry went for 11 yards. He got the goal line touchdown on top of that.
91:27He just has more juice, more strength than Rashad White.
91:30They actually kept Rashad White in there for one third and one.
91:33He got suffer a loss, obviously, and they had to punt.
91:37Look, if you have Jayden Daniels at quarterback, you're not going to dump it off to Rashad White often.
91:42Like, that is the theory of the play with Rashad White.
91:46They have a pocket passer that he racks up some PPR scam stuff.
91:49And you just don't do that when you're Jayden Daniels can extend and get to the sideline or throw it away or sometimes scramble on top of it.
91:58So, yeah, Rashad White, still not an effective runner.
92:00I will add that Bill fumbled a bit later on.
92:03Josh Connolly fell on it, so it didn't turn into a negative play.
92:07And then Katron Allen did pop in there for a couple of those runs after Bill.
92:12But when they go back and review it, again, just the size, the movement, the power of Bill just totally overshadows what
92:19Rashad White brings to the table here. And how did Jayden look?
92:22Just, like, how did he look? He was injured last year.
92:25Did he look good? Did he feel good about him moving forward?
92:29He looked fine? Okay. I mean, he took some hits.
92:32He got back up. And there were some off-target passes.
92:35It looked like a new offense. Again, they had some mechanical, you know, false starts, formation, some weird timeouts from Dan Quinn.
92:42It just looked like they were in the first time of a new offense.
92:46I don't want to judge them too harshly for facing Vic Fangio, because I think that's like the worst thing to roll up on on week one.
92:54I'm in wait and see with this commander's offense.
92:56It did feel at times where I don't know if it's going to make sense that David Blau was like calling plays at times versus running an offense.
93:05Like they would do the under center stuff because now it's everything's involved and that's exactly what the league is supposed to do.
93:12And yet it just ended with Jayden Daniels running for his life.
93:15And just out of a different formation and different look.
93:18So we'll see. I'm in wait and see mode for for David Blau.
93:22Okay, Matt, we're going to send it back to you to close up this one.
93:27It's the upset of the day. I mean, it has to be the upset of the day as what?
93:32Nine and a half point underdogs as the Arizona Cardinals beat the LA Chargers, not by a little bit, but by 12 points, 26 to 14.
93:40You have been Cardinals curious this entire summer and it paid off.
93:44Yeah, I was going to say when Hayden mentioned don't search LaFleur on Twitter.
93:48If you're going to do it, just make sure you get the right LaFleur because man is Mike LaFleur, the new guy people are saying.
93:55We'll see how I can get you guys Cardinals curious by the end of this recap because they were by far not even close.
94:02The better team on the field today. It was this is this is embarrassing.
94:06This is an embarrassing game for the Chargers. Just just straight up.
94:10Like I do want to talk about the Cardinals first, but you know what?
94:14I was going to say like, well, you know, Bucks, new offensive coordinator, Zach Robinson, Mike McDaniel, new offensive coordinator here.
94:20These are complicated offenses with a lot of shifts, a lot of motion.
94:24We saw the Bears and the Jags kind of struggle with this last year with new play callers taking over what were very static offenses previously.
94:32At the same time, you can give all those same caveats to the team on the other side here in the Arizona Cardinals.
94:39And this team there looked crisp. They handled everything really professionally.
94:42Like Jacoby Brissett in the first half was in total control of this offense.
94:4616 completions on 21 pass attempts. All three of his top pass catchers there, McBride, Marv, Wilson, all of them lost like what I would call tough catches.
94:55None of them were just like, oh, man, that's a drop or something like that.
94:59It was just really tough, like kind of you got to adjust to it.
95:03He maybe threw it a little bit where he didn't want it.
95:07They had to extend for it. And then he had a risky throwaway when in the grasp of Khalil Mack to avoid
95:13running out the clock to close the first half.
95:16But those were his only like real incompletions overall.
95:19He was, like I said, in total control of this offense.
95:22Jeremiah Love, you immediately are just like, oh, yeah, that guy is really good at football.
95:27Like first touchdown on the opening drive. It was five touches to four between Jeremiah Love and Tyler Algier in the opening quarter.
95:34And it's just like, yeah, one of these guys moves differently.
95:37Like it's really good to have him out there and like kind of winning in tight spaces at the line of scrimmage.
95:44Just finding an extra lane as a dump off receiver to just keeping the offense moving.
95:48It's like, yeah, I know third overall running back value, whatever.
95:52Kind of helpful to have that guy on the offense.
95:55And the other guy we got to give a shout out to Kendrick Bourne does his best Khalif Raymond impression as the
96:01like, hey, I know that I've worked with the coach previously.
96:04I know this offense boys like saddle up for a lot of targets to Kendrick Bourne.
96:09He was awesome in this game. So, yeah, Brissette, obviously McBride was was McBride.
96:13Jeremiah Love. And then the receivers kind of chipped in along the way.
96:17Marv had a really nice 33 yard tight coverage win along the sideline.
96:21Michael Wilson kind of started slow, but picked up later has about 50 yards in this game.
96:26So, like I said, just really organized, really crisp.
96:29And they ultimately ran 72 plays to 51 for the Chargers.
96:32The Chargers would just go long periods without having the ball because the drives were about equals.
96:3711 drives to Arizona, 10 to Los Angeles. But just the Cardinals could stay on the field and the Chargers couldn't.
96:43Matt, let's spin this forward because the Cardinals in the next two games, I'm glad they won in week one.
96:49It's Seattle and San Francisco over the next two, right?
96:52What do you expect with the backfield? Obviously, Jeremiah Love gets there.
96:56He scores a touchdown. 11 carries 41. I'm surprised it's only two receptions for nine yards.
97:01Do you think the backfield is going to look with this split or as Jeremiah Love still recovers from the high ankle
97:07sprain, it's just going to be more and more and more in his direction?
97:11I think it'll just be more and more in Jeremiah's direction.
97:15He just is pretty clearly. I mean, Algier is not going to go away.
97:19He's a good back and he did help them early on and grind things out late.
97:24He'll still be involved, but I think it will tilt more and more to the rookie's favor.
97:29Okay. And then one follow-up on the Cardinals. I see McBride 9 for 95 and 1.
97:33I see Michael Wilson 5 for 56. That doesn't even mention Kendrick Bourne's 8 for 75.
97:38If you're saying that this offense is well coached and it was on point and they were ready to play, I see Marvin Harrison Jr.
97:463 targets, 1 reception, 33 yards. I don't want to say it's over already, but that's kind of fifth option on this offense, it seems.
97:53That's tough to see. The Bourne stuff definitely throws a wrench, I think, for both of these wide receivers, which I liked.
98:00I mean, I drafted a ton of Michael Wilson and kind of sprinkled in Marvin Harrison.
98:04So the Bourne variable is definitely one I probably wish I had considered a little bit more because he's a good player.
98:11Like I said, he was with Michael LaFleur when they were together as the wide receiver coach with the San Francisco 49ers.
98:18I don't think he's going away. He runs a route on about 77% of the dropbacks, which was a decent bit behind both Wilson, McBride, and Harrison.
98:26But when he was out there, he was getting targeted.
98:29So that definitely throws a wrench in any like Marvin Harrison Jr., big leap forward.
98:33Michael Wilson sustaining what he did last year. Because obviously Trey McBride is the guy and was the one we all ranked the highest.
98:40But I wouldn't say it's I definitely don't think it's over for Marv.
98:44Like he did again. He had one really nice reception in this game.
98:48But, you know, is he someone I'm starting against the Seahawks next week?
98:52No, definitely not. Okay. I'll ask the questions with the Chargers because Matt, I saw three catches for like 60 yards on
98:58the opening drive that Ladd McConkie and Mike McDaniel had together.
99:02And I was like, I'm going to eat good all season long.
99:05The Chargers are just going to put it on the board week after week, drive after drive.
99:10And then what? He exits the game after seven targets, five receptions, 82 yards and a touchdown.
99:15And no one can function from there. What the hell happened?
99:19I mean, this if you were one of the people, you know, and I was one of these people, I think I
99:25think you guys all were that thought that it's Ladd McConkie.
99:28And then like, okay, there's some interesting players, but like a pretty significant drop off between one and two.
99:34You absolutely felt that the moment that Ladd left this game.
99:37Because, I mean, first drive, it's three completions for 60 yards from Justin Herbert and Mike McDaniel's offense.
99:43They all go to Ladd McConkie, 18 yards, 23 yards, 19 yards, explosive plays, doing exactly what you would imagine from him.
99:49His fourth target is a long pass interference on first and 20.
99:53Then he has another 14-yard catch, a touchdown in the red zone.
99:56And then, you know, Justin Herbert kind of throws it a little high on an in-breaking route later in the game.
100:03And he just gets popped in the ribs. And that's kind of like this is a little bit of the Ladd McConkie experience, right?
100:10It's he looks really great. I love him as a player.
100:13But my one question with him is, like, does he have the body to sustain a lot of punishment one week in?
100:20And kind of a discouraging answer. And like you said, Josh, they could not function after he was gone.
100:25The Chargers averaged 12.4 yards to go on third down today.
100:29That's one of the more disgusting stats. And then, I mean, late in this game, this is from Jordan Roderick, our friend,
100:35who also is Cardinals Curious, by the way. Chargers were down 23-14.
100:39Offense takes over. Penalty, penalty, penalty. Pass breakup. Burn a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty.
100:44Pass for 12 yards on third and 30. Short pass on fourth and 18 penalty turnover on downs.
100:49Like, it was not good. Like, the offensive line was probably worse than we would have expected.
100:55The run game was, you know, like, Amari and Hampton had some moments.
100:58Keaton Mitchell was mixing in a lot earlier than I would have thought.
101:02But Hampton, like, he looks great when he's just going downhill.
101:06But, you know, we got to kind of change directions a little bit faster there.
101:10A lot of questions for this one coming out here.
101:13I do think we need to spend more time on the run game, though, because I think this was like, you're going
101:20to get explosives and that's going to help Herbert kind of calm things down a little bit.
101:25They had negative yards before contact in this one.
101:27The Chargers did. Yeah, the line was not good.
101:30That's that's really bad. I haven't loved Amari and Hampton's vision, so I can't wait to go back and watch this big.
101:37All right, this is the guards fault or this is the center's fault or is this Hampton's fault?
101:42Like, seeing in there just a little bit. That's kind of like how Amari and Hampton can finish as like the RB12
101:48instead of like the RB7 or something like that.
101:51So, yeah, super disappointing season or game for Hampton and Justin Herbert.
101:55Yep, Matt, like I don't want to take this too far.
101:58So often there are things after week one that stay as fact for the next 17 weeks.
102:03But there's always like those one or two games that we jump to conclusions and we look stupid for jumping to conclusions.
102:10I am at least hoping that the Chargers are one of these teams that just put their worst foot forward in week
102:16one and it just gets better from here. But I don't know some of the things that you're talking up of how
102:23that might not come to pass leaves me nervous as in poor blocking.
102:27Yeah, guard center guard combo. Not great. Wide receivers behind Lad McConkie.
102:30I mean, QJ does nothing here. Trey Harris does nothing here.
102:33Aranda Gadsden, two for 32. And then once Lad leaves, it's David Njoku for five for 58.
102:39What are we doing? And like I said, just completely overwhelmed on the interior offensive line in the run and pass game.
102:45So, you know, that's definitely going to make the receivers look worse.
102:49But I certainly don't think they have anything more than a maybe interesting wide receiver three in Quinton Johnson and a maybe
102:55interesting rotational player in Trey Harris behind Lad McConkie.
102:58So he definitely is the straw that stirs the drink on this one.
103:02And when he was out of there, like I said, they just they had absolutely nothing in the second half, which was super discouraging.
103:09I wouldn't I'm not going to full on panic on the Chargers.
103:12And like I said, to be fair, even though the Cardinals beat this accusation, I do think like what the Jags looked
103:19like in the first half of last year in the Bears is instructive.
103:23It's a new offense. It's really complicated. A lot of changes.
103:26And that that can cause a team to look disjointed.
103:29And hopefully they pick it up here in short order.
103:32But really discouraging debut. Matt, I'll just say this was pretty damn disappointing.
103:36This Cardinals team, everybody projected them to be the worst team in the NFL, picking number one overall, lowest amount of touchdowns scored in there on the road.
103:44And they put BTA on the Chargers. I mean, Hampton looked pretty bad when I was watching them.
103:50I'm like, come on, dude. Like this is yeah, they need to get it together.
103:54This was this is inexcusable, in my opinion. Right.
103:57To that point, like the Chargers need to start fast.
104:00Your two opening games were the Cardinals and the Raiders.
104:03And then after that, it's Buffalo, Seattle, both on the road.
104:06Then Denver, Kansas City, the Rams, the Texans and the Ravens.
104:09Like you had to start to know the season.
104:12So they better freaking bounce back next week against the Raiders or else we're in a big, big, big trouble here.
104:18And Ray, that's a perfect transition into your game as the Raiders start one and oh on the season.
104:24I was Dolphins curious, Matt. And that did not turn out to be good here in week one in a game that they should and could win.
104:32But the Raiders, this is their easiest matchup in the opening 11 weeks.
104:3627 points on this Dolphins defense. Kirk Cousins, 21 to 30, just for 160 yards.
104:40Three touchdowns, two interceptions. But Ray, the headliner, I guess, is Ashton Gentry.
104:4423 carries, 102 yards. And he's also the team's leading receiver.
104:47Six receptions, 45 and two scores. Yeah, I thought I thought his ankle was broken.
104:52I thought it was hanging on by a thread.
104:55Prayer candles in circles, turning the music down. Ashton Gentry became only the 10th player since 1999 with 100 rushing yards and
105:01at least two receiving TDs in the same regular season game.
105:04I mean, he looked great. Great as the primary running back.
105:08Michael Mayer led them in targets. So he was the Brock Bowers' replacement.
105:12He was not Brock Bowers' levels of good. I almost fumbled the ball in this one.
105:16But I'll just say the biggest takeaway watching this was Clint Kubiak was very much in command.
105:21The offense looked good. The Raiders put up 27 points in this one.
105:25And as nasty as the game felt, like Miami's just so young, y'all.
105:29This is the youngest team in the league. I didn't think Malik Willis was great, but he also wasn't awful in this matchup.
105:36But it was just, it was too much Ashton Gentry downhill in the receiving game.
105:41He was everything for the Raiders. I thought Mike Washington played well, but this is somebody you do not want to flex.
105:47You don't want to play those games. There was nothing from Trey Tucker, nothing from Jalen Naylor.
105:52One of Kirk Cousins' interceptions actually came on another target to Jack Besh, who scored a touchdown in this one.
105:58It'd be interesting to watch his snaps and his participation moving forward.
106:02But the big takeaway is if Gentry's going to be this involved on the ground and through the air, he's going to be awesome.
106:09He was incredible in this one. And I can only imagine how much better he can get down the line.
106:15Clint Kubiak was great. Like, he just called an awesome game plan at one point.
106:19They had like a nine-minute drive, just eating up clock.
106:22Just, they played really good ball against, obviously, a very young and not very good team in Miami.
106:28But the Raiders were, the Raiders were solid for their first outing.
106:31Yeah, I love seeing no sacks for Kirk Cousins.
106:34Like, to me, like, that's a sign of good coaching.
106:37Is there free rushers coming at you and hitting your quarterback?
106:40Is there, like, negative four-yard carries all the time?
106:43It does not seem like we had that much ball.
106:46Ray, explain the, like, Ashton Gentry, like, types of targets.
106:49I think both of those were, what, end zone targets?
106:52Did he, like, leak out? Like, was his design stuff?
106:55Like, what level of receptions could we expect from Ashton Gentry here?
106:58Oh, no, man. He was looking like CMC out there, Hayden.
107:02It wasn't just, like, swing routes out of the backfield.
107:05I mean, his first touchdown, I mean, he was, it was downfield.
107:08There were some yards down there, right? He had a nice little angle route.
107:12Got the touchdown. I thought it was a receiver.
107:15I was like, oh, man, that's Ashton Gentry, number two there.
107:18And then they got him again. It was very creative how Kubiak was deploying Gentry out of the backfield.
107:24And you can tell early on whether it was through the air or on the ground.
107:29Like, the game plan was get the ball out of Kirk Cousins' hands quickly and get the ball to Ashton Gentry.
107:35Like, he was, like, sneakily a lot better than we probably expected last year through the air.
107:40And to start off this year doing the same thing that he kind of left off doing last season, like, I feel a lot.
107:47I mean, six receptions for 45 yards and two touchdowns for your, for what most people consider, like, this grinder, bell cow type running back.
107:55It was, it was a great performance from Ashton Gentry.
107:58And I don't even think he's 100% running out there right now.
108:01So, hey, now, I would say, I mean, this, this six catches, five, six receptions, I think we should be banking on that pretty much weekly from Gentry.
108:09Interesting. I mean, to me, part of this is how bad Miami is.
108:13Like, they are rough both on offense and especially on defense.
108:17Like, no defensive linemen. Their linebackers are fine, but their corners and safeties are atrocious.
108:21Like, this is the easiest game that the Raiders have on the schedule for the next 11 weeks.
108:26So that's something I want to keep in mind.
108:29Ray, I did want to ask you, typically with Fent Kubiak passing offenses, it's downfield explosives.
108:34It seemed like that wasn't the case here. It was more kind of underneath stuff, intermediate-ish.
108:39How do they fill in for Brock Bowers? Like, what was the usage with Jack Bash and Michael Mayer and those types?
108:45Yeah, Mayer was right there at the top, right?
108:48Seven targets for Mayer and I believe another seven targets for Ashton Gentry.
108:52So, well, six for Gentry, seven for Mayer. Best really wasn't involved after halftime much.
108:56I'll just say, like, none of the receivers really felt like they were a big part of the game plan.
109:02There wasn't a lot of stuff down the field.
109:05It really felt, I mean, 5.3 yards average for Kirk Cousins.
109:08It was get the ball out of his hands as quick as possible.
109:12Like, he was not taking five and seven-step drops.
109:15There was no play action to shoot it downfield.
109:17It was get it out quick. Michael Mayer, not a lot on his receptions either.
109:225.3 yards of reception for Michael Mayer. It was quick.
109:25It was get it out. Like, it just felt like Las Vegas knew that they could get the dub.
109:30And it was, let's do what we need to to get up out of here, keep everybody healthy.
109:36At one point, like Mendoza, they're showing him on the sideline.
109:39I was like, did something happen to Kirk Cousins?
109:42Two interceptions from Kirk. You're going to get what you get from that angle.
109:46But I highly doubt, without Bowers, the way that Mayer was deployed in the route was not the way that Bowers was deployed.
109:53They play two completely different tight end roles, which makes me think that when Bowers is back, like, that's where your explosives come from, from Brock Bowers.
110:01And then Mayer is still kind of like an underneath outlet option.
110:04We got the report from this morning that Brock Bowers, like, has a chance to play this next week.
110:10With the win, can we just, like, buy him another week maybe?
110:14Can we just, like, take this guy's career seriously for once in our lifetime?
110:18My other note from this one, Chris Johnson, a first-round corner, and this tends to happen with rookie corners.
110:24He was targeted 12 times in this game. So that's just, like, something I always like to figure out is where are
110:30the rookie corners that are actually playing? Because offensive coordinators, especially good ones like Kubiak, tend to just, like, target them because those guys' heads are spinning.
110:38And I think that's something we have to pay attention to with Miami.
110:42Ray, let me ask you about Miami's offense. Malik Willis, 15-27, 220 in interception.
110:46Five sacks taken. He's also the team's leading rusher.
110:49Six carries, 39 yards, one score. Devon A. Chan on the day as a round 1-2 turn running back.
110:5411 carries, 36 yards. Four catches, 30 yards. Against the Las Vegas Raiders defense in negative game script.
111:00And then their receivers, Caleb Douglas, 5 for 94.
111:03Malik Washington, 3 for 53. Believe all of that was in the second half.
111:07And then Chris Bell, just one catch for 25.
111:09Overall, first look at this Dolphins offense. What was your takeaway?
111:13Not the same as last year. Like, that was the big takeaway.
111:16It's, it was not the same. That the involvement, even the announcers were saying, A.
111:21Chan is a very good pass catcher. Why are they not throwing him the ball?
111:2594.1% of backfield opportunities. Jalen Wright had one carry, zero routes, no targets.
111:29It was all A. Chan, but 11 carries. There wasn't much.
111:32Like, the offensive line was overmatched. Max Crosby was giving Malik Willis hell all game.
111:37Quiddie Paye was all over him. I think both of those players had two sacks in the game.
111:42A. Chan, you love the 16, you know, 16 touches by A.
111:46Chan. You love the 21 routes. But the line has got to play better.
111:50Harmon, we kind of talked about the line. They got an all pro up there at their center position.
111:56Brewer. And they've got all these additions. You draft Caden Proctor.
111:59But it was just a rough outing. Like, this Raiders defensive line gave them fits.
112:03Caleb Douglas looked good. Chris Bell had one catch down the field.
112:07Malik Washington in the second half looked fine. This is, you know, Malik Willis.
112:11He threw for 220. He ran for a touchdown, which you're hoping that he can continue to do.
112:16And he looked fine in that. But it's very obvious that they're just lacking weapons.
112:21They're lacking big-time playmakers. They've got no tight end.
112:24Like, they didn't even get Greg Dolchich involved. I don't know what slowick, what his game plan was in this one.
112:30It just felt like they wanted Willis to drop back and deal.
112:33And that's not the type of quarterback that he is.
112:36You got to do a little more. There was not a lot of RPO stuff with Willis.
112:41It was drop back and try to dissect the defense.
112:44And he was incapable of doing that. All right.
112:47We'll head to the next game. And this one should be quick.
112:51Pittsburgh Steelers 20. Atlanta Falcons 13. Because this one went as expected.
112:54Cooper Rush cannot function. Just simply cannot function. And the Falcons offense was entirely B.
112:59John Robinson. I mean, I can talk through that immediately if you want me to.
113:03Where he had 29 opportunities. B. John Robinson did.
113:06Brian Robinson had nine carries. And then the wide receivers and tight ends combined for six touches.
113:11Oh. I mean, come on. I mean, it's so bad.
113:14I can go quickly through how awful it was.
113:17Like, there was a second and 19. Kyle Pitts was open down the scene.
113:21He wins one-on-one versus Jalen Ramsey. Cooper Rush, like, gets the yips.
113:24Underthrows it. And it's broken up. The passes to Drake London were high and wide and all over the place.
113:30His touchdown to B. John Robinson was B. John lining up at wide receiver.
113:34It was a wide receiver screen. So it had a negative A dot.
113:38And then he takes it for, like, a 24-yard touchdown himself.
113:42Kevin Zafancy just realized that if the ball doesn't get in Seven's hands, the ball isn't moving at all.
113:47Cooper Rush had a middle-of-field interception that was horrible.
113:50Cooper Rush then threw a pick six to T.J.
113:53Watt when he was trying to have a swing pass to the running back out of the backfield.
113:58And T.J. Watt just grabbed it and ran into the end zone.
114:02This was a brutal, brutal watch. Now, on the opposite end for the Pittsburgh Steelers, there were some, you know, moments.
114:08I mean, obviously, every so often, Aaron Rodgers would have, like, some nice downfield passes, like a long shot to Roman Wilson.
114:14Pass interference on A.J. Terrell, that would have been a touchdown.
114:18An out-of-structure second down touchdown to Pat Fryermuth, second phase play in the red zone.
114:22He had another pass interference with D.K. Metcalf, and then D.K.
114:25was also called for OPI later on. We can talk about the running back rotation because that might have been the most notable takeaway.
114:33But, yeah, I mean, the Falcons are an unserious organization, and I feel bad for you for as long as Cooper Rush
114:39starts for your Drake London and Cal Pitchers. It's just so early to be talking about a Cooper Rush start.
114:45Like, it's week one. It's so, so early. Josh, I don't know if this just adds to the pain or if you
114:52could even stomach noticing something like this, but can you tell me anything about, like, Drake London's alignment and usage?
114:58Because this is... It doesn't even matter. I know it doesn't matter.
115:01I know it doesn't matter, but it matters for me personally.
115:04So, you know. Matt, it didn't matter for me live.
115:07I was watching another game while this one was on the second screen.
115:11I'm sure we'll talk about it in stats versus film, but I don't think it matters as much if Drake London was at the X or the Z.
115:20Heck, if he was in the backfield. Like, none of...
115:23I mean, you've got to carry in this game because Cooper Rush was so panicked quickly going through his reads.
115:29He has no out-of-structure ability to his game. Like, Michael Penix off of four knee surgeries is going to be so much
115:35better than Cooper Rush in this offense, and I can't wait for the day that Michael Penix is back under center here, Hayden.
115:42Listen, but guys, I just wanted to have something to ask.
115:45I don't know why. I got an answer for you.
115:48Drake London 10 snaps in the slot. Does that move anything for you, Matt?
115:52It's 16%. 16%. That's got to be, like, one of his lowest.
115:56Josh, real talk. If Rush starts again, are you benching London and Pitts week two of the doggone season?
116:02Just, I'm not playing them. Well, I mean, week two of the doggone season, they faced the Carolina Panthers, who just dropped 59 points.
116:09So if there ever was a week, if there ever was a week, Cooper, now is the time to do it.
116:15The Steelers running back room was really interesting. It was mostly drive-by-drive early on, but that ended with Rico Dowdle 39 snaps to Jalen Warren's 25 snaps.
116:23Jalen Warren did fumble on a screen early on.
116:26He also had 15 total touches, including five receptions, compared to Dowdle's, I think, 10 total touches.
116:31Both got red zone snaps here. So I don't know how much we can read into any of this stuff other than,
116:37you know, one guy fumbling, and it's not like one guy is running away with the job here in week one either, Hayden.
116:44Well, I will say the split between passes and carries in this game is staggering, considering how inept the Falcons' offense was.
116:51They dropped back, what, 42 times for the Steelers, and that's 18 carries for the Steelers.
116:56Like, that is a huge split. Like, that would be, like, leading the NFL in neutral pass rate if this holds.
117:02And, like, we have seen McCarthy dial up crazy pass-first offenses here.
117:05Like, if that's the offense that we're getting, and maybe that's just because the Falcons have no pass rushers, they can't stop
117:12the run either, so, like, you can go either way here.
117:15I think that would be a pretty big win for Jalen Warren.
117:19Like, the fact that he got six targets in this game and they felt like they probably had a good chance of
117:25winning this throughout, that, to me, leans like this would be Warren over Rico Dowdle.
117:30Yeah, we'll see. I mean, Rico was in there a lot, too.
117:33And I think Mike McCarthy really liked him just based on how that flow of the game was going.
117:39Troy Fultano left at some point in this one.
117:42So, the first-round pick, Max Iron Atcher, came in at right tackle, and then their right tackle moved over to left tackle.
117:48I also want to add Chris Lindstrom, the Falcons' best offensive lineman, left a concussion in this contest, too.
117:54So, that goes from bad to worse there. Pat Frymuth is, again, someone that Aaron Rodgers had talked up in terms of
118:00filling in for Michael Pittman, who was injured. Now, Michael Pittman is the leading receiver here.
118:05DK's, we'll talk about DK in Sass vs. Film.
118:08He had, like, hidden yardage, both that he gave up because of OPI, and that was taken away for DPI, too.
118:14So, it doesn't show up here, but I really do believe DK was the wide receiver one for this team, and it
118:21shows up in the 10 targets, but again, just four catches for 40 yards on top of that.
118:26Okay. Ray, we'll go through this. While I was wrong about the Dolphins being frisky in Week 1, I was correct about
118:33the Jets being frisky as they dominate the Tennessee Titans, 23-10.
118:36Geno Smith, 19-24, 250. Brees Hall, 22 carries, 102 yards and a score.
118:40Garrett Wilson, 6-79. Adonai Mitchell, 3-60. Jets fans are in heaven.
118:43They should feel good. They should feel great after this one because the Jets look like a, I mean, they just look so much more prepared.
118:51It was the best players on the field. Every position, both sides of the ball, belonged to the New York Jets.
118:57Omar Cooper Jr. starts that thing off with a 30-yard reception on the first drive.
119:02Then he sprains his ankle and he leaves. Kenyon Sadiq, rushing score.
119:05Brees Hall and Braylon Allen looked great. Braylon Allen also had, I think it was close to a 20-yard touchdown run, called back due to a holding penalty.
119:13Brees Hall getting all the work out of the backfield.
119:16I mean, he's just spinning off at defenders. Bell Cal Brees.
119:20I thought Braylon Allen played exceptionally well. And Geno Smith was good.
119:23He did what he needed to do. No touchdowns, no interceptions, no sacks.
119:27He was only hit one time. This Tennessee defense could do nothing to get Geno Smith off his mark, under pressure.
119:33And he got the ball to Garrett Wilson. 30% target share, as Garrett Wilson always does.
119:38Brees Hall and Braylon Allen led the backfield. Wasn't a big day from Kenyon Sadiq, but he's healthy.
119:44He finished the game. And I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw from the Jets' offense side of the ball.
119:50Ray, can I ask about Garrett Wilson? Was there any slot involvement?
119:53It looked like he's kind of a part-time player here.
119:5623 routes on 28% of the dropbacks. Was that because of the game at the end?
120:01Or was anything different about Garrett Wilson as we can actually probably take him serious for the first time as a potential top 15 fantasy receiver?
120:09Yeah, if you watch it back, which I highly don't recommend you do, Hayden.
120:13They moved him around quite a bit. He was all over the place, downfield work.
120:17It wasn't like cheap, gimmicky stuff for Garrett Wilson.
120:20And there was another one, his one target that he didn't get.
120:24I mean, it would have been another big play for Wilson.
120:27I thought he played really well, made some good grabs.
120:30And it was, Geno Smith knew where to go.
120:33Like, he played under control. He got the ball out on time.
120:36I was, I'm watching them and I'm like, man, I am, I'm using this loosely impressed with this Jets offense.
120:42But y'all, I'm telling y'all that Tennessee, there are big, big problems in Tennessee.
120:46Big problems. Bro. Big problems. Let's talk through that because it was like 0-0, six minutes left in like the first quarter.
120:53This should be like an early play sheet call for Brian Dayball.
120:57And he has like a double reverse action where Cam Ward, the action is him flipping the ball to himself as he's
121:03hitting the end of his drop back. And then he hits his back foot and then drives straight up into a sack.
121:10Like we said it in the summer, but Brian Dayball is probably looking at the last season of his play calling career.
121:16That is just, you don't see that across the league.
121:19That's horrible stuff. 49 plays for the Titans. 49 plays, 4.0 yards per play.
121:23I'm not trying to be hard on Cam Ward.
121:26At some point, the excuses have to stop. I mean, he's drifting back.
121:30It should have been a safety on one of the plays.
121:33There was one point where he like shuffled the ball backward.
121:36Like he just like pitched it to somebody. It looks like he had no idea what was going on.
121:42And I don't want to discount the Jets defense, but it's not like they were playing the 85 Bears out there as well.
121:49Like this offense, you talk about inoperable. The offensive line was a mess.
121:53Cam Ward's footwork, his mechanics in the pocket. It's either big play or bust.
121:57I mean, Carnell Tech caught the ball, but it doesn't matter when he goes for like 20-something yards.
122:02Wondell Robinson, it doesn't matter when he's getting thrown the ball four or five yards down the field.
122:08Tony Pollard, nothing on the ground. Tajay Spears running up.
122:11Cam Ward couldn't hit swing routes to the running backs out of the backfield.
122:15It was that bad. They didn't score a touchdown until two minutes left in the game.
122:20And you're just like, Oh no. Yeah, the touchdown game with two minutes left.
122:24Two minutes and 50 seconds left. And Elik Aamriner gets a slant route, scores a touchdown.
122:29Awful, awful performance from the Tennessee Titans. And I am very concerned for Carnell Tate, Wondell Robinson, and Brian Dayball as a play caller.
122:36I only have two things to add here because I pretty much watched zero seconds of this game.
122:41You know, maybe we'll keep it that way. We'll see.
122:44One, Surrender Index, which is an account on Twitter, tracks like cowardly punts.
122:48The Titans with a minute and 12 seconds left in the third on fourth and nine while losing three to 20, they punted.
122:55That was a 100th percentile out of cowardly punts since 1999.
122:58And then our friend Easton Freeze asked Robert Sala after the game for his message to fans who are shell-shocked and tempted
123:05to save their money and be apathetic about this football team.
123:08It's week one. Dude, it was bad, y'all. Like, I'm not trying to be funny here.
123:13It was bad. Right. It's about to get even worse.
123:16The Titans then get Vic Fangio's defense in week two.
123:19Then the fourth game of the season is Jesse Minter's Baltimore Ravens.
123:22Then the fifth game of the season is D'Amico Ryan's Houston Texans.
123:26So three of these next four games are three on paper of the best defenses in the league.
123:31And you only put up 10 points and what, 140 yards?
123:34I guess the week one. I mean, that's brutal stuff.
123:37How many points are they going to score? The last note that I have is I feel very bad for Jeremiah Smith
123:44or Arch Manning because that looked like the worst team in the NFL today.
123:48They look awful. Matt, question for you. Who scores more points?
123:51The Chicago Bears through week eight or the Tennessee Titans through week 18?
123:55Oh, definitely the Bears. Bears. Easily. Easily. Easily. No question.
123:58That's the easiest question you've asked me all episode.
124:01So 18 games versus eight games. We're going with the team with eight games.
124:05Yes. Yes. Yes. Incredible stuff. Wow. Okay. Hayden, speaking of maybe even worse offenses, we'll close out with you.
124:11The Cleveland Browns scored 10 points in their debut with Todd Munkin as Deshaun Watson goes 16 to 22.
124:16205 though. Five sacks taken. He is the team's leading rusher with six carries for 38.
124:21We're bearing the lead where the Jacksonville basically had to take their foot off the acceleration for the entire second half, posting 34 points in total.
124:29Trevor Lawrence, 18 of 23, 245. Four touchdown passes.
124:32We'll talk through the wide receivers. Parker Washington with 85 for 83 and one.
124:36Jacoby Myers, two for 40 and one. And then obviously the running back room.
124:40Ray, the Browns have the Titans and it's going to be a close competition this year.
124:45This game was equally as bad with the Browns.
124:47It was within three minutes of the game. Deshaun Watson, I mean, threw it directly to a Jacksonville defender in zone coverage.
124:54That one was really bad. There was many other missed opportunities for interceptions, but what was so strange about the, and not strange, like very predictable.
125:02The reason why they went with Deshaun Watson in a road environment is because like he can execute the offense.
125:08There were so many delay of games or needing to call a timeout to avoid delay of games in the two minute drill.
125:14He had to take a delay of game for no reason.
125:18That set up a first and 30. His time to throw was like almost four seconds in this one.
125:23Later in the game, they had to call a timeout for a delay of game where he's like literally at the line
125:30of scrimmage with his wristband going through the place.
125:33Like with, as the seconds go down from two to one to zero, there was nothing functional about this game.
125:39Denzel Boston catches like a go ball touchdown. That was a great catch from him later on.
125:44They try to get Casey Concepcion going a little bit.
125:47There's like an end around. There was a screen.
125:49He fumbled on that screen. He did have a little out route for a first down, but it was to the point
125:56where this team is so horrific that this could be a team like the Titans where it's like you can't start anybody
126:02to the point where I think Shador probably should just start the following game here.
126:07There was like nothing that Deshaun Watson did at all.
126:10Even what they were trying to say, like you cannot watch that game and say the operation obviously Travis Hunter out there
126:16at corner as well, but that was like as bad as he gets there and then Dylan Sampson leaves with the knee injury.
126:23So it's just like you really can't you really can't start anybody here.
126:27I mean, this is the downside of drafting someone like Quinchon Judkins who's I think a tough rank for me because he's
126:34so awesome with the ball in his hands as a runner and yet when you face an overpowering full of Monstars defensive
126:40line like the Jaguars, he just has no chance and you're going to get negative game script and then he has, you
126:47know, two targets for 17 yards on top of his 12 carries for 33.
126:51So Matt, I mean, Aiden, we're not going to get a horrible matchup like this all the time, but at the same
126:58time, it's going to be tough to I think pick your spots with Quinchon Judkins unless he's, you know, just a flex player.
127:04Yeah, I think he's a flex only type for now.
127:07They get the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa so now you have to like deal with the Vita Vea of it all
127:14over there so it's not going to get any easier this next week.
127:18He did it on that swing pass. He did like a break a tackle and he still looks awesome to me, but
127:24he's like a low end flex until proven otherwise.
127:27Deshaun Watson like at least like looked more athletic than he had before, but his decision making is so far away from
127:34what is acceptable in the NFL that even that as a compliment like is completely irrelevant onto Jacksonville, a serious team, serious organization.
127:40Trevor Lawrence was phenomenal in this one for a couple reasons.
127:44One, he was not under duress. There was only four pressures on 24 dropbacks, 17%.
127:48This could be one of the worst offensive lines going into the NFL this year and that did not seem to be a problem.
127:55Jared Verse went pressureless in this one for Cleveland.
127:58That's not a good sign over there, but with Trevor, you had to scramble drill touchdown finding Jacoby in the back of the end zone.
128:05That was an awesome play for Trevor backside dig touchdown play action quick touchdown where if you look at the end zone
128:12camera from the broadcast, there was like four or five Browns defenders hands putting up and Trevor put it right on the money.
128:19It was a little bit of a rotation across the board here.
128:22BGJ leaves early then comes back in. He had a catch over the middle.
128:27He had a toe tap catch but largely wasn't that heard from.
128:30It was Parker Washington to me as like clearly the top target diving touchdown on a crossing route where if you watch that play, he's in the slot.
128:39He gets man coverage. I mean, just absolutely dust like right away.
128:42He has a one handed catch like near the sideline later on.
128:46Like it seemed like just one of those players where like you can tell who the first read is like on a
128:52deeper route and that seemed to be Parker Washington in this one.
128:56Jacoby Myers was the recipient of that scramble drill touchdown later on Cole strange dig route touchdown in the red area.
129:02So Trevor Lawrence did not miss the entire game.
129:05One sack, four touchdowns and only five incompletions there.
129:07It's like everything was working there. Only like one of them was like truly startable and that was Parker Washington five for 83 in a tud.
129:15I'll ask about Basial Tootin versus Chris Rodriguez. Now, this wasn't a four quarter outlay.
129:20That was not necessary, but the box score says 15 carries 66 yards for Basial Tootin along with one catch for 22
129:26compared to Chris Rodriguez six for 23. This was one of those games that you would hope for a short yardage touchdown
129:33for Chris Rodriguez when you score 34 points, but it didn't happen.
129:36Did not happen Tootin started this game? He obviously got the most carries by quite a lot here.
129:42Chris Rodriguez was out there for that play action goal line touchdown that I was talking about.
129:47That was to Josh Cameron. By the way, that was the second touchdown of the game.
129:52That was not garbage time. Josh Cameron was out there for a little bit.
129:56Travis Hunter was not, but Chris Rodriguez, I wouldn't say that he's like for sure going to get all the short yardage
130:02work because Tootin got a little bit kind of between the 20s like on a third and one situation, but Chris Rodriguez
130:09was out there for that goal line snap. He's purely touchdown or bust.
130:13Unfortunately, Amir Abdullah was actually playing in kind of like a LaQuint Allen type of role.
130:17It's going to be a rotation. I can't say that Tootin or Chris Rodriguez looked way better than one another Tootin.
130:24I thought it looked a little bit more explosive.
130:26Liam Cohen had some nice things to say about Basial Tootin.
130:30I do still worry that this could be a little bit kind of trap-backy if Chris Rodriguez is going to get the goal line stuff.
130:37And for Basial Tootin, he had a screen reception for 22 yards.
130:41Yeah, that was his only target of the game.
130:43There's just like no reason to throw the ball to the running backs if you're going to get Trevor Lawrence to park
130:50Washington, BTJ, Jacoby, you name it down the football field.
130:53So I just wonder if like that Liam Cohen-Bucks offense that was so, it was just kind of rotating around the running back group.
131:00I just don't think that this offense is going to be like that one at all.
131:05Harmon, any questions? How long would you say that Jacoby Myers was wide open before he finally got the ball thrown his way on that touchdown?
131:13They showed a different angle and there was a Browns defender that was originally guarding him who was just like laying down
131:19on the ground for a little bit. But credit to Trevor for eventually finding him.
131:24That was a robe and good to see Trevor throw the ball accurate.
131:27Sometimes he throws the ball accurately and then other times he's way off.
131:31This is one of those games where everything was right on the money.
131:35So shout out to him. Yeah, this is one of those kind of two game samples I want to package together.
131:41They get the Browns in week one and then they're on the road in Denver for week two.
131:47The Jaguars are and so we're going to kind of learn some lessons from from that department.
131:52BTJ left for a portion of this game, Hayden.
131:55Yeah, as we have all talked about Travis Hunter kind of seemed like the de facto X wide receiver for BTJ, but
132:01did that kind of turn into Josh Cameron here?
132:04Yeah, so Josh Cameron was a standout in camp and like Shipley by the end of camp was saying Cameron's going to
132:10play more offense than Travis Hunter and that's exactly what happened here.
132:14Now Travis Hunter came in there for his four snaps on offense.
132:17I think he got a carry and then I think maybe like another screen or something.
132:22He basically was in there as like a like, you know, Kadarius Tony type of player out there.
132:28That was that was that was like when like Brian Thomas was sidelined.
132:31I think I think it was a kind of like that.
132:35So he's a very good corner. We'll leave it at that.
132:38Okay. Ray, any closing questions before we get out of here?
132:41I just it feels like and hey, I didn't watch this this game in entirety, but it felt like there's probably some
132:48more upside in this pass catching room. Trevor Lawrence only threw the ball what 23 times?
132:53I just I feel like there could be some more inside this Jags receiving room.
132:57I would hope that they consolidate the looks a little bit more.
133:01there like let's condense that up. Get Parker Washington the ball some more and I thought BTJ looked well before he got before he got injured.
133:08I thought he played well and look good. Yeah, he came back to the game.
133:13I have no negative notes to say about Brian Thomas in this game.
133:17Parker watching 18 of 25 routes on the dropbacks out there.
133:20So not a full time player. But I will say he just to me does look like the most like well-rounded wide
133:27receiver like the most involved out there and when they are going to be in closer games like they will drop back
133:33a whole lot more and I think that this is going to be maybe more of a pass first offense than they have been before.
133:41I mean, if you listen to Liam Cohen like before the season talk about the running backs is like, you know, we're trying to get by here.
133:49I would not be surprised. Yes, four, six, eight, like four, six, eight.
133:53That's pretty much what happened today and then it was just like 25, 30, 32 to the best players would just happen
133:59to be all of the pass catchers. All right, that does it.
134:0312 games in the books, 12 game covered by the four of us.
